How magic works in the Ehlverse......................... where to START.

Okay first of all: despite trying a bunch of different things, I. Could Not figure out anything to draw for this question. Nothing was clicking.

BUT.

The Ehlverse has, at the point in time when the Millennium Saga and Whispers take place, 10 separate magic systems going on. And uh. That number, due to one of said systems, fluctuates throughout history. I'll focus on that one, since it's the framework for the whole entire world!

The Millennium Cycle, namesake for the Saga because it's hugely relevant to the plot, is a historical pattern of going back and forth between adding something new to (a Growth) or destroying something already a part of (a Decay) the world every thousand years. So, year 0 of the current calendar is when The Common Tongue (the magical translation magic that permeates the world) Grew, and year 1000 was when the Rill Decay happened, which has been trying to erase the Shara'i with a Vampirism epidemic ever since. Growths can add whole new species, peoples, magic systems, continents, plants, etc etc, and Decays can take any of those things away. This is overseen by the Goddesses, specifically Venn (Goddess of Magic, among other things) and Delta (Goddess of Change, among other things), with the other four essentially giving creative input in the form of suggested edits.

(Why, yes, TMS can be interpreted as a commentary on the experience of making art and when to let go of a thing and accept that it has flaws and that doesn't mean it isn't done.)

BUT the way the Cycle manifests changes almost every time. In-world, there's infinite debate to be had about whether or not the planet's creation itself was a Growth, and whether the Goddesses had to essentially just do a rapid series of Growths to get life going before settling into a Growth > Decay > Growth > Decay pattern. And, like, the fact that the Rill Decay hasn't fully manifested (the Shara'i still exist as we're creeping up on year 4000 PCT) when the Eqian Decay (1000 BCT) was over in an instant with an entire continent being inverted into deep sea chasms has made a lot of people question whether it was a Decay at all, over the centuries. (Those people don't realize that Sieril was the technological leader of the world at that time, with the Shara'i having essentially faced an apocalypse that dropped them to less than 1% of their population. Because, you know, that was almost 3000 years ago.)

ANYWAY. The plot of TMS revolves around the Great Decay that was supposed to happen on the dawn of the year 3000 having been stopped by the Chosen One, and uh maybe just actually delayed instead. But he's been pretending he fully stopped it. And its currently 3995 and 5 years is not a lot of time to figure out how to stop the Permanent Magic Eraser from destroying the manifold societies that are entirely dependent on magic to function.

Quote Debunk 7: Quote De-Book "Edasurc" - Sunny, The Carnivorous Carnival - (BCT - Book Canon Theory)

My first book canon theory!

Sunny's Baby Talk has always been a source of great amusement throughout both the books and Netflix series.

In the book of TCC (Chapter 9) Lemony writes:

"Edasurc," Sunny said, which meant something like "Maybe someday we can rescue those lions."

Even after reading this book for quite some time, it has never occurred to me, until today, that:

C R U S A D E!

Apologies if this was obvious.

But the way I see it...

THEORY: Lemony is telling us that Sunny, as well as becoming a chef, became a Volunteer Feline Detective.

The chef part comes from his Very Few Descriptions of Madame di Lustro, and the whole "I've figure out your secret identity!" thing.

This line, "Maybe someday we can rescue those lions.", suggests that maybe she did, given her superpower (@snicketstrange) of an amazing memory.

Also, Lemony never explicitly mentions or even implies that the Panthera Leo (Latin names of the lions found in the Hinterlands, TSS) have become extinct during this time - it's entirely possible that the lions managed to escape the fire, and spend their days roaming the Hinterlands looking for something to eat...

my experience is that you enlist for 4 years at a time (usually with a 4 year commitment to the reserves after that.) Occasionally, and this is happening more in recent years, I've seen and heard of 2 or 3 year enlistments. Between BCT, AIT and EOD it's about 50+ weeks of training. A deployment is anywhere from 6-15 months with time at home in between. Where does it say that Mac was on his third deployment when he met Jack?

In 1x06 Wrench no exact years are used, but Mac is at the EOD training grounds with Pena "6 years ago" which makes it 2010. (since the episode aired in 2016) Pena is killed "5 Years Ago" making it 2011. In 3x06 the date is given 6/27/2011. The day of 1000 IEDs was (according to 3x06) two weeks before Pena's death. In that episode Mac says he'd only been in country for 3 months prior to Pena's death. He meets Jack in 2011. Jack says Mac "got his training officer killed." Training officers aren't often deploying to Afghanistan since their roles are to teach and train. The implication that Mac was working in country with his training officer means he hasn't had multiple deployments at this point. (and he flat out wouldn't have had time if he was in EOD training in 2010)

In the pilot Mac says he spent "three years defusing bombs for the military" and while technically his time shouldn't "count" until he graduates BCT, AIT, and EOD I'm thinking for ease of explanation he is counting those years since his first mission with DXS in Jakarta (3x12 Mac + Fallout + Jack) takes place in 2012. Either way, the minimum enlisted age is 17 with parental consent, which gets fuzzy because who had custody over Mac? Someone needs to have guardianship. It's possible he's emancipated but that too gets complicated. But we avoid that issue by having Mac enlist around 2009-2010ish according to the years given to us in the show.

Who is paying for MIT? a 17 year old can't sign for a loan. There are very very few "full rides" unless James made some kind of fake endowment or scholarship program and awarded it to Mac. Perhaps he tasked an underling with that, but it seems unlikely he went through that much effort. I'm sorry, no school anywhere is letting a 6 year old into fifth grade. Schools are reluctant to let kids skip a single grade, and even though I can see James being an ass about it, I don't think he'd intervene. He'd want Mac to skip based on "merit" not because he went down to the school and threw a temper tantrum. Again, it would be too much effort on James part. the fifth grade teacher is not prepared for the lack of fine motor skills or emotional maturity of a six year old suddenly in their class. Even if Mac is smart enough to skip, there are a lot of social skills and motor skills that are developed in early grades. Even a "young" first grader need more help with things like holding a pencil or using scissors than a "older" first grader. (ie think a first grader who turned six in July prior to school starting versus a first grader who is going to turn 7 just a few weeks after school starts. Those nine months have an enormous difference)

So many he skips one grade. Maybe he graduates early after taking extra classes. Maybe he even starts taking college credits in high school. He's probably not much more than a year or depending on birthdays twoish younger than bozer. But still young enough to be a younger brother. still potentially the same age as Josh would have been.

The MacGyver canon timeline is pretty shit though. They can't keep anything straight. Mac says the KGB was disbanded before he was born so he should actually have a birthday in 1992!

Yeah! I'm for sure going to write it one day! I'm really excited for it one day because BCT is what I'd consider my MegOP magnum opus (once I actually write it) because the intention is to combine slow burn OTP romance with a shitton of IDW1 lore and interesting side plots. As detailed as if it was its own AU continuity, even. I just want it to have a lot of cool things in it.

design notes: dome, radar chamber receiver in black, RPS module, anode quite extensive for main thruster, magnets in red, auxiliary thrusters have their own anodes which are less, base support and ceramic thermal insulation block from the tanks, exhaust chambers and RCS gas expansion chambers

need to fit rocket guidance system after the radar

structure looked flimsy around RPS modules so fixed that, looks like this makes more sense, that would be persistent structure for most of the rocket's length except for the base and top which are reinforced

finally we have the structure for both the rocket and boosters

well this is the secondary rocket in fact, the fist one has a flat top, and the radar is useful for both, nice

recycling Bumper to eject the probes stack this time, rails on the sides to make sure they are steady

probes in black at 90% of the core so that is how the whole thing is sized up, looks pretty big

we did the ionic rocket first because it more complex, the boosters are basically the same minus ionic propulsion and main anode, RPS, radar, it's a liquid oxygen tank there instead

RPS module diameter can be more, just in case, it's an awful long distance to TRAPPIST

or no diameter doesn't need to be more, the module could be longer,

yes how many probes, they're a stack of up to 3 judging from the total width of that level, so we have the same thing in height

it's a crazy amount of liquid nitrogen for those thrusters, with room to fit enough RPS modules, this rocket might just make it to TRAPPIST after all

so there we have it, the flat base after the dome is where the probes are stored, we are showing the 2 latest stage here in fact

I still need to fit the rocket guidance system which should be right above RPS modules

that whole dome gets ejected so that the probes can go, when that happens the probes have a clear line of sight to exit the rocket

powerful electromagnets can be used, doesn't ruin anything just rods that go off push the whole thing out

remember space is pushing against the dome or top of the rocket, once it is still there is not much in the way of ejecting the dome if its done properly, whereas that same speed keeps the dome pushing against the rocket when in motion

say the rocket guidance system is right under the radar, once the dome is set to be ejected what use do I have for RGS, Bumper is timed so that the probes go when the dome is at a safe distance, 1 minute or so

imagine the rocket went the whole way and the ejection of the dome malfunctions, things happen in space, and these rails might just have, they do in fact, electromagnetic rods on the tips just in case, on separate power circuits in case that is the issue at hand

either or is better than all or nothing, it's truer in space maybe

the 3 probes are the mission, the rocket or 2 rockets are only part of the mission to deliver those probes as far as possible

you have to know what is the mission, and these secondary electromagnets would be powerful enough to blow off the dome in case the dome's own electromagnets fail

side notes: It's a nice space based missile that, Bombardier can propose an asteroid missile defense system, which we don't have presently, who controls it as a collective space based asteroid defense system

Hey, guys! If you did not know this about me, I am enlisting in the Army! I recently just got all my waivers so that I am now able to swear in and sign my contract! I just wanted to share with you all things about the Military.

Usually, when I tell someone that I am enlisting, they immediately start thinking about me being on the front line of wars, however this is far from the case. While there are jobs that require you to stay in the front line of duty, there are also options. The military offers MOS(Military Occupational Specialty aka your job) specialities in mechanics, operations, medical, engineering, and many, many more. There are over 150 job and career opportunities offered in the military!

So often people think that the military is way too hard for them, but they don’t even know the expectations nor the benefits and cons of what the military brings. I believe that using the military to jumpstart your career is something worth thinking about; so long as you’re fit and able to serve.

Upon arriving to BCT(basic combat training) you will set up a 401K plan. You will also receive free or reduced housing cost after basic, as well as the GI Bill, which allows you attend any college for free.(free to you! The government pays for it)

The military is a way to learn discipline and self reliance, it creates the best version of you. The best part is, you create it all on you’re own. When you look back at your life, you want to be able to say, I really did that. What other way that to be of the 1% of people who enlist, serve our country, and help retain peace and prosperity of Our people?

Andrea Gump: Living Her Life Like That Box of Chocolates

Sunshine. It might be the cornball way to describe her, but that’s OK because says things like, “Ahhhhh,” and “that’s so sweet.” And mind you, that’s not a reference to a single ray of sunshine. Nope. Not just one. One, in fact, would be disparaging, and that’s because, when it comes to Andrea Gump, we’re in need of the entire circumstance of that interstellar ball of blaze. Oh, and when we’re talking fire – ya know, 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 - that describes this lady’s passion not just for her job with the Army National Guard or for giving children full-size candy bars on Halloween, but way-far beyond those A, B, Cs and 1-2-3s of life. Oh no, her zeal, her intensity – Gump’s fervor – is for life itself, and if you know her, you’re aware there’s absolutely and positively nothing “cornball” about how she goes about her hour-to-hour-and-day-to-day to-do lists. That’s why, in the very near future, Gump will compete for Regional Rookie Recruiter of the Year against folks from the nation’s capital, and from Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Her record will speak for itself, and she’ll be asked about her mode of operations as well as military regulations. Pfft. Piece of cake. You’ve heard her on the radio, seen her on local TV stations, and you’ve read about her success in the local newspapers, and Sergeant Gump’s (yes, you have heard that before!) work to reach as many young people as possible on social media has been nothing but impressive. Why? God’s errands. Gump loves to travel with family and friends as often as possible. Did your fellow soldiers make fun of you during boot camp because of your last name? To be honest, none of the soldiers I went to Basic Training with bothered me about my last name. Most of us were so terrified to speak because we didn’t want to be noticed by the drill sergeants that everyone kept to themselves about that kind of stuff. The drill sergeants, on the other hand, they had a field day with my last name. Unfortunately for me, running the area is what I struggled with the most so there was no way I could hide. I immediately became the center of every joke, but I was prepared for that so it didn’t bother me. Some of my drill sergeants — still to this day — joke about my last name on Facebook, and it always brings a smile to my face. It’s all in good fun. I still get jokes to this day from random strangers, but luckily, I look young enough to throw people for a loop and tell them I have no idea what Forrest Gump is. That’s a great icebreaker. I will say, I am just incredibly grateful my mom did not name me Jenny.  How do you prepare your recruits for their Basic Training? I am 100% honest with my recruits, not just regarding basic training, but throughout the entire experience from start to finish. Most recruiters have a negative reputation due to the lies they tell. I am Andrea Gump, and I am a National Guardsman. That being said, I work and serve in the community that made me who I am, and I plan to stay here forever, so I care about my reputation. Lying to recruits about anything – no matter how “big or small” – is WRONG. That being said, I pride myself on my honesty because I don’t want anyone to have a negative experience because of me. As far as Basic Training, I always preface it by saying that it is not a summer camp. It is a training camp for the United States Army, and it is not always going to be fun. Additionally, the Army National Guard is unique in many ways and one way is that in order to prepare our warriors for Basic Training, they attend what’s called the Recruit Sustainment Program (RSP). My recruits attend RSP with me one weekend a month (and get paid for it!) in order to prepare for basic training. These weekends are an introduction to BCT and will get my recruits started and keep them on track mentally, physically, emotionally and administratively while they prepare for their career in the Guard. RSP drills give my recruits an opportunity to start getting comfortable with the terminology and protocols that are part of Guard service—and they will be getting paid for the time they spend at RSP.  We describe RSP as an opportunity to learn the basics of Basic Training so when they get there it isn’t a complete culture shock. There are five phases to RSP, but the three main phases are:  RED PHASE – Your first weekend at RSP is Red Phase. In this intensive training, you will learn basics you need to know right away, like RSP Introduction, Army Structure, Chain of Command, Rank and Insignia, Customs and Courtesies, General Orders, Reporting Procedures, Drill and Ceremony, Physical Fitness, AKO, and MyPay Setup. WHITE PHASE – Depending on the number of months between when you enlisted and when you ship to BCT, the length of your White Phase in the RSP will vary. During this phase, you will learn more about the Guard and more of what you will need to know to succeed at BCT. In addition to physical training, instruction in this phase will include: Proper Wear of the Military Uniform; Army Values, Soldier’s Creed and Warrior Ethos; Employ Camouflage, Cover and Concealment; Tactics, Weapons Familiarization During the White Phase, you will continue to focus on physical training and cover Soldier skills that will further prepare you for BCT. You can also compete for a promotion to PV2 under the Stripes for Skills program. BLUE PHASE – At your final drill before shipping to BCT, in addition to physical preparation, you will cover all the final details that have to be taken care of before you leave. But you can get a jump-start on these items by learning what to expect before, during and after BCT, such as: Inspections, What Every Trainee Wants to Know About BCT, and Final Preparations for BCT. Aside from RSP, I just talk with them and share my experiences. I let them know what to pack, what not to pack, and literally everything in between.  She never plans to leave her home here in the valley, but Gump loves to experience other cultures. Are you really popular in your neighborhood because you’re the “full-sized-candy-bar-lady” on Halloween? I’m not sure how popular I am in our neighborhood due to the full-sized candy bars situation, but seeing the smiles on both the kids and the adults faces makes me so happy. Adulting can be hard, so finding little things in life like that can make all the difference in your day! Now, we know that Laszlo goes to get a fresh bulb because his nightlight goes out - but what if this is Lemony, yet again, covering up the truth?

He does it so masterfully, and it really shone throughout the Netflix series, the way he sets up character profiles and moves the plot forward in such a way that readers/viewers forget about what happened. From the cyclical appearance of Justice Strauss [TBB & TPP], to the reminders that the Baudelaires are orphans - we definitely would've forgotten without them.

THEORY PART 2 - NCT: Laszlo lives at 667 Dark Avenue, and this story takes place during the time of TEE, when dark is declared out, and light is declared in. This explains his desperate want for a nightlight; he doesn't want to be seen as unfashionable by anyone.

THEORY PART 2.5 - BCT: Laszlo is an islander who (for some strange reason) lives in the arboretum with Ishmael, who was presumably fast asleep when this incident occurred. Then again, now that I think about it, this part makes little sense...
