It's not about the clothes or what is "appropriate".

Avina is not made for new species like the VI in the cultural center. It's a VI that welcomes colonists from the Milky Way.

Avina was used in the past to say things that are extremely biased, to reinforce the Council's power, and when confronted on those things, would resort to say that all the interactions are scripted. But behind those scripts is someone who thought about what would be said to new diplomats on the Presidium. For a VI that looks so innocent, it's really not used innocently. It's a tool of power.

Here in Andromeda, it reinforces the idea that asari are the main and central presence in a galaxy. But why? They had multiple species on the trip, they should have voted for a VI that looked different, like none of them really. The fact that they went back to Avina is because it was indeed deemed the most familiar, or because there was pressure from the asari. It's still not an innocent choice because you would never see a Krogan VI welcoming colonists. That's why I'm saying history repeats itself.

MEA thoughts:

I kinda agree that finding new species, space faring ones, in the Milky Way might have proven to be a challenge, but I don't believe that everything has been explored, that it was all "been there, done that" as if the galaxy had nothing new to offer. Even for someone like Peebee. I know the "unknown" is exciting and obviously Andromeda would be full of discoveries but the grass is always greener on the other side mindset plays a huge part here.

I don't think they have really explored the psychological impact of everyone not waking up at the same time, especially when linked to loved ones/families. If you spend months or years working and helping the Nexus as essential personnel in Andromeda while your wife/husband/partner is still in cryo, those are still months or years you get to live and do things without the one you love. It's time taken out of your lifespan, and time you won't get back with them, but it's also time you fill with other people and feelings. I don't know, I find the idea extremely scary.

Patterns and basically history repeating itself. Many ways we can see that in Andromeda. I think Avina - the face of an asari as the welcoming VI in the galaxy - says a lot really.

(I mean I know the answer has to be yes and yet I don't know if I ever noticed before)

Also making Avina a turian in the arena is such a good bit of worldbuilding, considering the arena afaik is owned by a turian company (and as such has a big turian fanbase)

Ok so since iirc the only two forces that could kill dezod (by the time we got to this generation) we’re roran + ric + Avina + arya or rowena, meaning that by that logic rowena is more powerful than roran and ric etc combined (unless I’m totally misremembering this????? V possible tbqh), perhaps part of what kills rowena is actually herself? Like bc she’s the force keeping cassius alive, when she starts killing him, she’s actually lowkey killing the part of her that keeps him alive????? (Def worth noting that none of roran, ric, avina, arya are fully trained/at full power yet tho w the possible exception of arya/roran depending how far Charles got before we axed him)

I think we should add the term Virtual Intelligence (VI) from mass effect to the common vernacular. An VI, unlike an Artificial Intelligence (AI), can not truly think and make decisions. It can react to things it learned and is very good at looking like it has a decisions making person behind it but there is no true development into something similar to a conciousness involved. Which does sound a lot like the neuronal net based chatbots peddled as AI. While changing the name of something does not change that much about it I still think, given the cultural meaning given to the term AI through science fiction and theories of the future of the field, I still think adopting the term VI would be worthwhile

why does the idea of avina being mean freak seven out? is it because they need avina to be the person who validates them without hesitation and if they were less artificially nice, they would be blunt/real with seven like mc was and they cant handle that

its not the idea of avina being mean in general, its the idea of avina being mean to MC.

Essentially Seven doesn't want to get the ick lolol and they're afraid they'd get it if Avina acts like a jerk toward mc because as much as they don't want to admit it seven is still biased

but what you mentioned is part of it, just not in that instance. Seven wasn't thinking about that at all but it's true that I doubt they'd be close if Avina was the kind of person to tell it to Seven straight. After MC Seven just wanted someone who would validate their every thought, even if they're unhealthy
