Alright everyone here is the big announcement y’all have been waiting for!
I’m officially starting my own Machinima series it’s called
The Strangetown Chronicles!
This series is a photo story telling voice over Machinima series. This won’t be filmed. It’ll be screenshots and voiceover stuff (kinda like a comic? Idk this is something I’m trying)
Anyways, this series takes place in 2024. It’s set in modern times instead of in the early 2000s
The trailer and prologue will come sometime this month hopefully!
Tumblr media
Enjoy this promo image I made for the series. Pascal, Buzz, Jace and Buck were taken by me while Bob, Tracie, Susanne, Ava, Ripp and Tank were taken by @simmerprincess17

I don't have a lot to say about Laura in those courthouse scenes that I haven't already said. I do think Laura has been regressed for the purposes of sociopathic mooch having someone powerful in her corner. I do think her refusal to acknowledge Trina is intentional, and I'm curious to see if they're ever going to have Trina comment on Laura's need to disappear her.
But I'd actually rather focus on Trina in those scenes because my eyes were mostly drawn to her and her reactions. I think what I'm enjoying the most about Ava chasing after justice for Trina is that it's basically forcing Trina to be honest with herself about what she actually wants vs. what she thinks she should want.
She tells Ava how she doesn't want demon spawn to lose out on his mother but when Ava pushes back and tells her this tiny sliver of justice is something she needs to really move on, Trina really doesn't fight her on that idea. So what we get from Trina in that courtroom is a girl once again seeing if the system she was raised to believe in, the system that turned on her and almost destroyed her life, would finally come through with some "sliver of justice" like Ava suggested.
What she saw was the system (through Mayor Laura's influence) move quickly to protect the girl who drugged her and weaponized the system against her. By the time sociopathic mooch skates with nothing but probation, Trina is sharing Ava's annoyance and side eye of Molly. But I think it's important to point out the differences in Trina and Ava's reactions. Ava is outraged, and Trina is disappointed but not remotely surprised. She is equal parts fed up with the system and completely unsurprised that sociopathic mooch continues to bend it to her will.
Trina's budding disillusionment paired with Laura and Esme's glee is actually weirdly enough the perfect MLK day episode. I don't know how intentional those optics or social commentary were but they're fitting. Trina got to watch the same Molly who tried to throw the book at her, with a trumped up plea deal, tell Ava that "justice was served" because sociopathic mooch would be spending no jail time.
And the resolution and protection for sociopathic mooch happened so quickly in comparison to the months Trina's fate was left dangling in the wind. Trina and Esme did not face the same justice system at all and I think that parallel was intentional.
I think, considering Trina is rumored to be heading in a gray direction, that she needed this moment of being reminded that this system that she wants to believe in will never be as fair as she wants it to be. It was important for her to sit back and observe it all and observe the way Laura (who is just as representative of the system as Molly at this point) used her influence without hesitation.
Trina blocking sociopathic mooch from her victory lap makes all the sense in the world to me in the aftermath of all of that. She wants and has to reclaim her power in the moment and remind the sociopathic mooch that despite her many wins, she didn't succeed in breaking her.
Trina wanting to play the martyr but ultimately being forced to accept that she's human and not above it all is an ongoing thing for her. Despite herself, Trina is still human and deep down, she wants her pound of flesh after being hurt like everyone else, and I think Ava is going to play an important role in Trina coming to terms with that side of herself.
What happens when the most optimistic person gets burned so much that they stop believing in doing the right thing being enough? I think we might see something like that play out with Trina.

Ava: When I lost kiki...
Trina: Look it's okay.
Me:
Tumblr media
I was misty eyed before I'm probably about to cry now😩
Ava: Thank God for Avery; you know I have Avery and I love her...and I know that she loves me but you know she's just a kid you know and there aren't many people in my life who care about me without no agenda you know and I just feel so lucky to be sitting with one of those people right now.
Me: And this is why I will not be able to emotionally withstand any fall out between Trava. If it ever comes out what went down between her and nikolas before he left the only people who can be mad is Laura and Spencer because sorry to them but Trina is her ride or die. Y'all know how Trina is about the people she loves. She's gonna stick beside them.🤷
And really I can only see Spencer being mad for a hot second before he starts thinking about how nikolas has been out and about for a while and still didn't come home for him or ace. Honestly, Laura really gonna be the only mad ASF.😂 Y'all know how Laura gets when it comes to her children.

Things I'm absolutely sick of, in no particular order:
Portia. Portia talking. Portia existing. just... Portia
Joss & Dex. it's going nowhere. she's being a whiny, entitled brat again and ignoring the family she'd do "anything" for
This road to nowhere with Willow. I don't even care any more. live or die, just pick one and DO it
Nina and Carly. separately or together
Gladys. She's sooooo bad at being crafty
Drew and everyone fawning over him for doing... almost nothing??
Esme in all forms.
Curtis. plz go away. join the WSB and adventure elsewhere
Things I'd rather have:
Kevlaur.
Kevin Collins
Charlotte Cassadine
Ava having an actual plot
Laura having ANY plot that's not about her being mayor or Nik or a grandkid in danger
Cameron Webber
TJ Ashford
Violet. omg my kingdom for some Violet but sans her dad & grandad
Leo Falconeri
Tracy Quartermaine
Avery Corinthos
Trina Robinson being a student, talking about art, without her family drama or just sprina (I like sprina but round her out again)
Nneka getting actual plots

I found some fun language quizzes while I was using the dictionary. (Collins Dictionary)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It has French, German, Chinese, Spanish and Italian quizzes. I tried French first.
Tumblr media
Sometimes you can’t pull the right word into the box for some reason so I goof around (when I somehow do manage to know what a word means).
One of the quizzes is about flowers, and I found “orchid” in French, Italian and German.

Orchid approved.

Also found some buttercups and sunflowers.

Strangers in the Night: A Novel of Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner by Heather Webb #NetGalley #ARCReview #Hollywood
Nothing was hotter for a time than the love affair between #FrankSinatra and #AvaGardner. An upcoming book fictionalizes their affair and I found it pretty spot-on. #StrangersintheNight #Anoveloffranksinatraandavagardner #heatherwebb #netgalley #arcreview
In the golden age of Hollywood, two of the brightest stars would define–and defy–an era… She was the small-town southern beauty transformed into a Hollywood love goddess. He was the legendary crooner whose voice transfixed the world. They were Ava Gardner and Frank Sinatra. Separately they were irresistible; together they were an explosive combination. Ava’s star is rising just as Frank’s…

Bea's 2024 Reading Wrapped
Tumblr media
I have not been able to finish Wind and Truth yet (I have Day 9 and 10 to go, meaning I'm starting 2025 with the Sanderlanche to end all Sanderlanches) so I'm finishing 2024 with 30 books read! I have reached my goal :)
More thoughts are below. For posts and memes about these books, head over to my book sideblog @prologues-and-epilogues
Never hurts to remember that these are my subjective opinions. If you love a book I didn't like, that means literally nothing because people are allowed to like different things.
2024 was a very disappointing year in terms of books. I usually give out mostly 4 stars and rarely give a book a 2-star rating. 1-star ratings are almost unheard of with me. And this year I got three of these rare beasts. And the rest? The majority got 3-star ratings, meaning they were enjoyable enough but didn't have that extra spark to make the book special for me.
✨The highlights✨
• Emily Henry straight up saved my reading year. I picked up Beach Read in November after a series of meh books that didn't really spark any special joy in me, and in two weeks, I had read all five of her most famous releases. I love this woman, and I will drop everything I'm doing to read her new book as soon as it's released. People We Meet on Vacation is my everything and the movie better do it justice
• Leigh Bardugo continues to be one of my favorite authors and Hell Bent was everything I wanted it to be. Dark, mysterious, funny and ugh I eat up the dark academia vibes. I need the next one in this series. We need to investigate Darlington's glowing dick I'm sorry I don't make the rules
• I can always trust Brandon Sanderson with a good time but Yumi and The Nightmare Painter was such a wonderful surprise. I did not expect to love this book as much as I did but it was such a touching tale. And Design, babe, you're the moment
• Fourth Wing was a strong start to a new series but Rebecca Yarros fumbled it a bit with Iron Flame (but I'll talk about it more in the letdowns section)
• I finally read the Percy Jackson series! Would I have liked it a lot more when I was 12? Probably. Did I still have a good time despite not being in the right demographic for the book? Yeah. Will I read the other series in the universe? Eventually
✨The letdowns✨
• If you're writing a fantasy story, maybe commit a bit better to the fantasy of it all? A Study in Dorwning, I'm looking at you. Also, weren't you supposed to be a stand-alone? Why is there going to be a sequel?
• Iron Flame had pacing issues. It also had plot issues because it's basically the same book as Fourth Wing. Every story beat is the same and I felt like the characters reverted back to the status quo they had at the beginning of Fourth Wing. It was really jarring for me because I read these back to back. I don't necessarily blame Rebecca Yarros for that, I think it was the publisher who really pushed to get this book out as soon as possible after the success of the first one, and the editing suffered with the timeline, but I hope they pull it together for Onyx Storm
• Yes, you're not imagining things. I did give the second book in the Once Upon a Broken Heart series 5 stars and the following book in the same series 1 star. That's what happens when you don't bother closing plot holes and just straight up make characters vanish in ways that would make Houdini himself puzzled in the final book of your series. Also, I hate amnesia plots so that didn't help. And it hurts so much because Ballad was so flawless. But Curse did make me lose all faith in Stephanie Garber and I'm probably never going to touch her work again
• I finally read the Darker Shade of Magic series and wish that I hadn't bothered. Truly don't see why there's so much hype for this series but if you enjoy it, I'm happy for you. For me, I just couldn't connect with the characters and found the worldbuilding to be lacking. I enjoyed the first book enough but A Gathering of Shadows bored me to tears. I didn't care about the magical competition situation, I don't think Lila should have been part of that at all, and the fact that the promises made in the synopsis are only addressed at the very end of the book makes me think that this should have been a duology and there was no need for Shadows to even exist. By the time I got to A Conjuring of Light, I was so fed up that I just wanted to be over with the series and the characters. And the book dragged. So many things could have been cut and it wouldn't have made any difference in the story. Holland was the only interesting character in the entire cast and he should have been the main character
✨The stats✨
Courtesy of Storygraph:
I finished 30 books, across 14,116 pages. The narratives flowed at a comfortable, engaging tempo. The average length of the books I read was 443 pages and it took me around 8 days to finish each book! I explored the works of 8 new authors, including Sabaa Tahir, Emily Henry, and Rebecca Yarros!
✨What the future holds✨
Most anticipated releases of 2025 include: Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry, Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins, and Isles of the Emberdark by Brandon Sanderson
I also plan on finally reading R.F. Kuang's The Poppy War trilogy to get a taste of her writing before the release of Katabasis, which sounds like it was written specifically for me. I also want to finally read Susanna Clarke's Piranesi, and Olivie Blake's The Atlas trilogy

10 August 2024 Book Releases to Put On Your Radar
It’s nearly the end of summer, and that means the book releases are picking back up again. There’s so many incredible books coming out that I desperately want to read, and I’m hopeful that y’all will feel the same way after reading this list! Happy August! As always, this list does not contain books by St. Martin’s Griffin or related imprints as part of the boycott for accountability on the part…

Ava: "But Trina did suffer at the hands of that girl. She was charged and tried for a crime she did not commit. So it does not seem out of proportion that Esme be punished for a crime she admits that she committed"
I'm really glad this scene happened and was written the way it was because it gave me the confirmation of what I've suspected for a while, Laura doesn't care about Trina's suffering anymore and resents being reminded about Trina as a victim of the girl she can't help but "love".
All she can do is frown at what Ava is saying and remind her about the "baby" as if demon spawn washes away all of the harm sociopathic mooch has done. Laura has been moving weird for a while now in regards to Trina.
When Spencer mentions Trina and triggers that loser's sense of inferiority? She's a problem that must be barely mentioned. When Trina talks Spencer into not rocking the boat? She's a "good influence". But Laura has this thing where she doesn't like to deal in inconvenient truths. That was the case with her and Luke, it was the case with Nik's existence, it's the case with Nik and Spencer, and it's the case with this little fucked up family unit she's trying to force with the sociopath who deliberately targeted her family.
Laura's hell house only existed because Trina orchestrated and consented to that girl's conditional release so that demon spawn wouldn't be raised in jail. She made that sacrifice for Laura's family. Laura is now acting like Ava is ridiculous for reminding her that Trina suffered and never received justice. Laura doesn't like to be reminded of the conditions under which her family units come to be. They're often built on someone's silent suffering (herself included).
Trina may love Spencer, Trina may have been nothing but good to Laura's family, but Trina didn't pop out a baby so I guess that means she must come second to the sociopath that Laura has projected her experiences onto. Does it suck that they're clearly setting up Laura and Trina to be on opposing sides when it comes to this Esme endgame? It does, but it's felt that way for a while now, with her barely acknowledging Trina's existence, so I can't say I'm surprised.
I'm glad that Ava is solidly in Trina's corner and speaking up for her perspective, even if Laura could care less. The sad thing is when that sociopath inevitably burns Laura, I know Trina will probably be showing her more genuine concern than Laura has shown Trina in a year.
