http://www.facebook.com/maadlas
Susanne

SPeaking of DB, what do you think about Giorno vs Joker? IIRC it's heavily interpretation heavy, but I'm curious to think on who you think would win.
Well, let's start by laying down the ground work in assuming that Joker's feats are equivalent to slaying a God. I still don't know if the creatures like Yaldaboth are truly gods (as in, comparable to SMT's YHVH or Lucifer) but let's say that Sataneal could make Joker a God Slayer.
In terms of destructive power, I'd say Joker is a winner. Obviously. Giorno has never faced a foe even near a God's level of power. Even beyond that, I would think the higher tiers of attacks from Personas probably match the more destructive Stands like Killer Queen. Unlike Golden Experience, which relies on Giorno's quick thinking and abuse of its power to win fights, not raw strength.
Versatility though, I'd honestly say goes to Giorno. If we use P5 The Animation as the basis for what Personas Joker can use, Joker has a good variety of moves between physical attacks with Yoshitsunne and Hecatoncheir, magic with Beelzebub and Vishnu, status through numerous Personas, healing through Pixie, simple range through Seth and White Rider and of course the sheer power of Sataneal. ... But Giorno's power lets him call upon any known animal on planet Earth as a weapon. Not as destructive as Joker's Personas but all Giorno would need is to create an animal with a toxic enough venom or poison and fling them at Joker to kill him (unless Joker can cure status). And because the animals can and will work autonomously from Giorno, he can run and hide while Joker NEEDS to direct his Personas. Which can be impaired by Giorno overloading Joker with life energy. You also have to remember that any damage Joker performs on an animal Golden Experience gives life to will reflect that damage back, making it extra dangerous.
Speaking of- healing ability. This is a weird one. Joker's healing doesn't require raw materials nor time like Giorno's Golden Experience. But it does use his finite resources in MP whereas Stands simply require focus from the user. It's weird where Joker's healing is superior to Giorno's but it's more finite than his.
We have intelligence which...I don't know. Joker is undoubtly intelligent (you wouldn't be able to wrangle the Phantom Thieves and use Personas effectively if you weren't smart in some way) but JoJo as a series basically works as a series of Puzzle Bosses which constantly require you to think outside the box and use EVERYTHING you have to beat them. It's also a written series so there's more time to showcase Giorno's cleverness than a video game/deliberately gimped anime where Joker is restricted.
And then, we have...the arrowheaded elephant in the room. Gold Experience Requiem. A stand that existed for about 4 chapters, had one fight and that's ALL we know in canon. GER's power is very...undefined. We know it's a lot stronger than GE and it's sentient. But it's ability to 'return to zero'?
All we know is it undoes...something.
Does it have to happen to Giorno to work? Maybe, but GER can undo King Crimson's time skip which wasn't necessarily targeted at Giorno. Diavolo intended on using it to kill Giorno but it wasn't directly AIMED at him.
Does it have a range for this? It literally has 'null' for stats so who knows?
Is it incapable of stopping extremely powerful attacks, like nukes? I dunno. It stopped King Crimson which isn't a nuke but is fucking with goddamn TIME.
Does Giorno need to be conscious? Maybe not, Giorno wasn't conscious when GER was reversing the time skip but we don't know if it could, say, stop an attack on a sleeping Giorno.
Could you overcome GER with a god's power? Maybe. Dio Over Heaven in the Eyes of Heaven game couldn't care less about it but that's a non-canon video game and Joker MIGHT be able to resist Dio Over Heaven's ability to rewrite reality.
It honestly depends on if you think Joker's 'will to rebellion' can overcome GER. It was able to overcome Yaldabath's overwritting of the world but GER is a Stand that, itself, fucks with Fate. Both Joker and Giorno are people who break fate itself to be heroes. So...it's really fucking hard to judge.
If you take out GER and Sataneal, Joker likely wins. He's just stronger with powerful options to overwhlem Giorno, who comes from an at least semi-realistic world. There is a chance Joker blows himself up from attacking an animal with a strong attack but Joker's Personas tend to resist at worst the elements they use. But with GER, it all comes down to whose will to overcome is stronger.

Sony Semiconductor Solutions to Release the Industry's First CMOS Image Sensor for Automotive Cameras That Can Simultaneously Process and Output RAW and YUV Images
Tumblr media
Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation (SSS) has announced the upcoming release of the ISX038 CMOS image sensor for automotive cameras, the industry's first*1 product that can simultaneously process and output RAW*2 and YUV*3 images. The new sensor product has proprietary ISP*4 inside and can process and output RAW and YUV images simultaneously. RAW images are required for external environment detection and recognition in advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving systems (AD), while the YUV images are provided for infotainment applications such as the drive recorder and augmented reality (AR). By expanding the applications a single camera can offer, the new product helps simplify automotive camera systems and saves space, cost, and power. *1   Among CMOS sensors for automotive cameras. According to SSS research (as of announcement on October 4, 2024).*2   Image for recognition on a computer.*3   Image for driver visual such as recording or displaying on a monitor.*4   Image signal processor – a circuit for image processing. Model nameSampleshipment date(planned)Sample price(including tax)ISX038 1/1.7-type (9.30 mm diagonal)8.39- effective-megapixel*5CMOS image sensorOctober 2024¥15,000*6 *5   Based on the image sensor effective pixel specification method.*6   May vary depending on the volume shipped and other conditions. The roles of automotive cameras continue to diversify in line with advances in ADAS and AD and increasing needs and requirements pertaining to the driver experience. On the other hand, there is limited space for installing such cameras, making it impossible to continue adding more indefinitely, which in turn has created a demand to do more with a single camera. The ISX038 is the industry's first*1 CMOS image sensor for automotive cameras that can simultaneously process and output RAW and YUV images. It uses a stacked structure consisting of a pixel chip and a logic chip with signal processing circuit, with the SSS' proprietary ISP on the logic chip. This design allows a single camera to provide high-precision detection and recognition capabilities of the environment outside the vehicle and visual information to assist the driver as infotainment applications. When compared with conventional methods such as a multi-camera system or a system that outputs RAW and YUV images using an external ISP, the new product helps simplify automotive camera systems, saving space, costs, and power.  ISX038 will offer compatibility with the EyeQ™6 System-on-a-Chip (SoC) currently offered by Mobileye, for use in ADAS and AD technology. Processing and output of Sony's ISX038 sensor (right) compared to conventional image sensors (left) Main Features - Industry's first*1 sensor capable of processing and outputting RAW and YUV images simultaneouslyThe new sensor is equipped with dedicated ISPs for RAW and YUV images and is capable of outputting two types of images simultaneously with image quality optimized for each application on two independent interfaces. Expanding the applications a single camera can offer helps build systems that save space, costs, and power compared to multi-camera systems or systems with an external ISP. - Wide dynamic range even during simultaneous use of HDR and LED flicker mitigationIn automobile driving, objects must be precisely detected and recognized even in road environments with significant differences in brightness, such as tunnel entrances and exits. Automotive cameras are also required to suppress LED flicker, even while in HDR mode, to deal with the increasing prevalence of LED signals and other traffic devices. The proprietary pixel structure and unique exposure method of this product improves saturation illuminance, yielding a wide dynamic range of 106 dB even when simultaneously employing HDR and LED flicker mitigation (when using dynamic range priority mode, the range is even wider, at 130 dB). This design also helps reduce motion artifacts*7 generated when capturing moving subjects. *7   Noise generated when capturing moving subjects with HDR. - Compatibility with conventional products*8This product shares the same compatibility with SSS' conventional products,*8 which have already built a proven track record for ADAS and AD applications with multiple automobile manufacturers. The new product makes it possible to reuse data assets collected on previous products such as driving data from automotive cameras. This helps streamline ADAS and AD development for automobile manufacturers and partners. *8 SSS' IMX728 1/1.7 type 8.39 effective megapixel CMOS image sensor. - Compliant with standards required for automotive applicationsThe product is qualified for AEC-Q100 Grade 2 automotive electronic component reliability tests by mass production. Also, SSS has introduced a development process compliant with the ISO 26262 road vehicle functional safety standard, at automotive safety integrity level ASIL-B(D). This contributes to improve automotive camera system reliability. Dragon Ball Super 116
Tumblr media
GOKU VS. KEFLA: THE FINAL ROUND
youtube
This is it!  The climactic conclusion of the best fight in Dragon Ball Super!  There must be a winner!
Tumblr media
Against all odds, Goku has somehow tapped into Autonomous Ultra Instinct for a second time!  Whis never dreamed he would figure it out ever again, much less a few minutes after the first time!  So Kefla’s doomed, right?   Well don’t write her off yet.  Kefla’s still got a lot left in the tank.  For example, she decides to see Goku’s Ultra Instinct and raise him Super Saiyan 2!  Well, that might not sound like a big deal, but when a Fused Saiyan does it, it means a lot.
Tumblr media
And there’s the abs.  When I got to these episodes, I was kind of shocked by how skinny Kefla was in her base form, and then she went Super Saiyan and bulked up, but not as much as I remembered.  Now at SSJ2, she’s starting to look more like I remembered.  The key to this is that she’s combining Caulifla’s SSJ and SSJ2 forms with Kale’s Legendary Super Saiyan form, which gets more muscular the stronger she becomes.  So I guess they had to start with a pretty skinny Kefla, because they couldn’t have her beef up as big as Kale, or that would defeat the idea of it being a fusion with a smaller character.
Tumblr media
Oh this is a really cool shot of the arena.
Tumblr media
So it’s pretty much like we saw the last time Goku used this power.  Jiren couldn’t touch him, and neither can Kefla now.  And it’s not for lack of trying.  As strong as Kefla is, I think there’s a solid argument that she could give Jiren a run for his money.
Tumblr media
Okay, I think her hair tie is gone now, the same way Kale always loses hers when she transforms.  Kefla’s hair has always confused me so just knowing that there’s been a hair tie involved is a relief.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Vegeta watches Goku playing the artful dodger and he finally gets a clue: this was the ideal style that Whis told them about in Resurrection F.  Vegeta’s all mad that Goku went and surpassed him again.  Sure, Vegeta, he did it just to spite you, because that’s what everything is about, after all.
Tumblr media
Here’s a cool spot where Kefla flies after Goku who falls off the side of a cliff, and then he digs his heels into the rock and leans back so Kefla can’t hit him.  Wild.
Tumblr media
Or, rather, he does this so he can hit her.  But that’s the trick, you see....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As powerful as Goku has become in this state, he’s mostly only able to use it for defense.  Kefla can’t even touch Goku, but on the other hand, Goku’s attacks aren’t nearly as strong as Kefla was expecting.  He makes a little headway with it, but he’s still not hitting her hard enough to defeat her.  And maybe he could take his time with this and wear her down, but he doesn’t have that long.  The UI power could wear off any second now.
Tumblr media
As Whis explains to the others, even those who can use Ultra Instinct have trouble using it offensively.  Goku’s problem is that he’s still having to use his brain to tell his body how to attack, and that interferes with his body acting autonomously for defense.  That’s why his attacks are so weak.  And if he doesn’t figure out a solution soon, he’ll run out of juice and Kefla will win.
Tumblr media
So Goku calls his shot: He’s going to end this fight with one more attack.
Tumblr media
Kefla doesn’t take kindly to this, and ramps up her power even further.  Now she’s shooting concentrated ki blasts in every direction, and they rip up everything they touch.
Tumblr media
She just starts slinging all this red shit everywhere, and Goku hops and flips through it as he moves in closer to her...
Tumblr media
And the whole time, he’s chargin’ up...
Tumblr media
Kefla’s just screaming and cackling like a maniac.  I really have to hand it to the dub VA’s for this, Elizabeth Maxwell (Caulifla) and Dawn Bennet (Kale).  DBS was the first time I ever watched a Dragon Ball series in Japanese first, and I was curious how the dub would handle the new characters, and I’m really pleased with Kefla’s manic energy.  They nailed it.
Tumblr media
She keeps firing red lasers, but Goku’s getting closer and closer...  Finally he jumps toward her, ready to fire...
Tumblr media
Ah, but that plays right into her hands!  Remember, no flying in the Tournament of Power, so now that Goku’s jumping at her, he can’t steer or dodge!  So now she can concentrate all that power she was slinging around every direction, and aim it right at him!
Tumblr media
THE POWER OF...!
Tumblr media
CHRISTMAAAAAASSSSS!
Tumblr media
But then Goku just does this sweet midair flip and skates along the front of her blast, using his ki ball like a weird little skateboard!
Tumblr media
HOW THE FUCK IS HE DOING THIS?!
Tumblr media
KALE LOOKS UP AND SHE’S LIKE “AWWWWW SHIT!”
Tumblr media
HAPPY...!
Tumblr media
HANUKKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Tumblr media
Kefla gets blasted through the stage!  Then her Potara shatter, and coincidentally...
Tumblr media
... the Fusion dissolves, and so it’s Caulifla and Kale who tumble to the bench!
Tumblr media
They’re OUT.
Tumblr media
Kale apologizes for losing, while Caulifla cries out for revenge.  Yes!  Fight Goku again!  Give us Kefla/Goku II!  Make it happen!
Tumblr media
So now Team Universe 6 is down to just two fighters: Saonel and Pilina. They vow to win, but come on.  What chance could they have?
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, that last round with Kefla finally got Jiren’s attention.  At least he’s not meditating like he planned to do for the second half.
Tumblr media
As for Goku, he’s tapped out all over again.  I guess it’s a net positive, since at least this time around he won a fight with Ultra Instinct instead of eating a super punch from Jiren.  But still, if he plans to defeat Jiren, he’ll have to do Ultra Instinct a third time, and can he even handle that?  Well, those are matters for later episodes.  As for this one, what else can I say but:
Tumblr media
This was a brilliant finish to a classic fight.  A lot of dumbasses out there were only happy to see Caulifla and Kale eliminated from the competition because they hated those two.  But discerning Caulifla and Kale likers, such as myself, know the truth, that Episodes 113-116 were a bona fide barn-burner, and the best of what Dragon Ball Super had to offer.  Show me a fight in GT that came anywhere close to this.  No, don’t bother, because I already watched GT recently, and I have 65 haikus that say there isn’t one.
I’ll admit, there have been times where I thought this liveblog was a mistake, because most of the stuff I’ve been covering has been pretty weak.  A lot of it is downright terrible.  But I knew the Tournament of Power would cheer me up, and that these four episodes in particular would really cheer me up, and I was right.  It’s like all the frustration and regret from before has metled away.  There’s 15 episodes of Super left to go, and I’m refreshed and ready to tackle ‘em!
Well, later, I think.

#49euroticket

📝 Editorial: The Most Important Algorithm for Transformers
There are few algorithms that have had as much impact on the recent generation of transformer architectures as FlashAttention. Originally developed by researchers from Princeton University, including the renowned Tri Dao, FlashAttention and its successor FlashAttention-2 were able to improve the performance of attention mechanisms in GPUs by minimizing read-writes. Almost immediately after the original publication, FlashAttention was rapidly adopted within the new generation of transformers. There were not many complaints about FlashAttention, but one of the few was that it was unable to take full advantage of new hardware architectures. For instance, FlashAttention-2 is only able to achieve 35% utilization of max FLOPs in H100 GPUs.
But now we have a new version.
Last week, a group of AI researchers from Meta, Princeton University, NVIDIA, and other AI labs published the paper and open-source code for FlashAttention-3. The new version of the method uses several techniques to speed up attention in H100 GPUs, exploiting the asynchrony of the tensor cores. The result is simple: FlashAttention-3 is blazing fast. The new model achieves 75% theoretical max FLOP utilization in H100, which results in practical 1.5-2x performance improvements. The new algorithm is also able to use lower precision numbers, which reduces the memory footprint.
FlashAttention-3 is an exciting development in generative AI algorithms. This method will almost certainly lead to improvements in large context windows in LLMs and better inference performance on modern GPU architectures. Impressive progress!

Article summary
Abstract
Introduction
POTS is a chronic syndrome with complex symptoms of orthostatic intolerance. It is defined as an increase in heart rate of ≥ 30bpm in adults (≥40 bpm in children) within 10 minutes of standing with no orthostatic drop in blood pressure.
POTS is more common in women. Symptoms can be debilitating (impairment comparable to congestive heart failure and COPD) and include palpitations, light headedness/syncope, chest discomfort, breathlessness, neuropathic pain, chronic fatigue, poor sleep efficience, gastrointestinal symptoms, syncope, cognitive slowing, and psychological distress.
Breathlessness is a common symptom in POTS. Breathlessness is often attributed to changes in breathing pattern, frequency, and/or quality occuring alongside cardiac symptoms. Breathlessness can be episodic, triggered by physical activity, stressful thoughts and events.
Dysfunctional breathing (DB) is an umbrella term describing breathing disorders where chronic changes in breathing pattern result in breathlessness and other symptoms without respiratory or cardiac disease. The most studied form of DB is hyperventilation syndrome (HVS)
Boulding et al. (2016) suggest classifying dysfunctional breathing into the following: 1) Hyperventilation syndrome (a respiratory pattern associated with symptoms both related to respiratory alkalosis and independent of hypocapnia), 2) Periodic deep sighing (frequent sighing with an irregular breathing pattern), 3) Thoracis dominant breathing (a respiratory pattern occurring separate to somatic disease may be considered dysfunctional and results in dyspnoea), 4) Forced abdominal expiration (inappropriate and excessive use of abdominal muscle contraction to aid expiration), 5) Thoraco-abdominal asynchrony (a respiratory pattern in which there is delay between rib cage and abdominal contraction resulting in ineffective breathing movements)
Patients with POTS often undergo extensive investigations due to the complexity of potential comorbidities but there is no guidance or consensus on the assessment of breathlessness.
Methods
Retrospective study of POTS patients referred to repiratory physiotherapy
Respiratory physiotherapy outpatient's referral criteria: tests performed and identification of DB/HVS are explained
Physiotherapy assessment and outcome measures
A standardised physiotherapy assessment of symptoms was performed on all patients (details provided in the paper)
Physiotherapy intervention:
The physiotherapy intervention was standaradised in terms of education and breathing re-training exercises and was delivered by a consultant physiotherapist of a highly specialised respiratory physiotherapist. Each patient was assessed and treated by the same physiotherapist.
Physiotherapy treatment
The educational component focused on patient's understanding of respiratory physiology and the mind-body link
Breathing re-training intervention involved teaching breathing control (details provided). The breathing retraining exercises were standardised and progressive. All techniques used were standard respiratory physiotherapy techniques commonly applied for acute and chronic respiratory disease. Their use for breathlessness in POTS had no previously been assessed.
Patients were discharged when they were confident to continue the re-training programme independently or if they did not attend for follow-up appointments.
Data analysis: details and figures provided in the paper
Results
Demographic information is given in Table 1
Signficiant improvements were observed and are noted in Table 2
Discussion
This paper is the first to characterise DB/HVS and investigate the impact of physiotherapy in POTS. The results indicate that breathing retraining results in significant improvements in breathing pattern and symptom burden thus potentially improving their health related quality of life. Further studies are needed.
Significance of the findings
it is estimated that DB/HVS affects 10% of the general population and is more prevalent in women than men. Patients with POTS who reported respiratory symptoms had DB/HVS. DB/HVS may coexist alongside chronic respiratory diseases and COPDalthough the relationship is unclear.
Although there were statistically significant improvements for the patient cohort as a whole, not all patients had complete resolutions of their DB/HVS and there are several limitations in interpreting the results for this study.
Unexplained breathlessness or 'air hunger' are predominant symptoms of DB/HVS and can result in significant patient morbidity and an array of non-respiratory symptoms which can themselves provoke anxiety/panic and further breathing irregularity
Whilst orthostatic tachycardia is the main symptom of POTS, orthostasis causes a variety of other symptoms through a vaireity of different mechanisms. The paper provides an overview of the hypothesised mechanisms.
Psychological influences (stress, axniety, depression, etc.) are highly prevalent in POTS patients and predispose them to DB/HVS. The impact of this study's intervention could, therefore, be partly related to a change in anxiety thanks to education, greater understanding of DB/HVS, and empowerment.
Proposed improvements for further studies include the inclusion of pre-post PaCO2 measurements, the exclusion of asthma and pulmonary hypertension, analysis of why patients attended appointments (and addressing the issues)
Access to respiratory physiotherapy outpatient services is limited across the NHS and many POTS patients are instead seen by muscluloskeletal physiotherapists due to comorbidities. Increased awareness may improve treatment for these patients
More data is needed to investigate the prevalence of dysfunctional breathing in POTS and how it relateds to other chronic conditions. More detailed investigation and assessment guidelines and techniques are needed.
Limitations
No control data were available
Outcome measures were potentially not sensitive to non-hyperventilatory dysfunctional breathing
Observational nature and small sample size did not allow exploration of the role of confounding variables
A selection bias may have been introduced due to this being a convenience sample
The Nijmegen score used to characterise these patients has not been validated in this patient population. Its limitations highlight the need for a holistic POTS-specific measure.
Physiological outcome measures for the diagnosis of HVS are often limited to specialist services so alternative diagnostic tests are sought. The Breathing Pattern Assessment Tool (BPAT) has demonstrated good sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of DB in refractory asthma. Responsiveness of the BPAT to treatment remains to be ascertained.
Measuring Neural Respiratory Drive (NRD) in breathlessness patients with POTS may be advantageous. NRD provides a global measure of breathlessness and a physiological correlate to breathlessness but there is no data on whether NRD is increased in POTS or on NRD pre-post respiratory interventions
Conclusion

I. Symptoms of Parkinson's Disease:
Symptoms associated with Parkinson's Disease encompass a broad array of motor and non-motor manifestations that can significantly affect an individual's well-being. Motor symptoms include tremors, characterized by rhythmic shaking in various body parts, bradykinesia, which results in slowed movement initiation and execution, rigidity causing stiffness in limbs and trunk, and postural instability leading to balance and coordination difficulties, increasing the risk of falls. Non-motor symptoms span cognitive impairment, mood disturbances like depression and anxiety, sleep disturbances, autonomic dysfunction impacting functions such as blood pressure regulation and digestion, as well as sensory abnormalities.
II. Causes of Parkinson's Disease:
The causes of Parkinson's Disease remain largely unclear, thought to arise from a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental factors. While most cases are sporadic, approximately 5-10% are familial, linked to mutations in genes like SNCA, LRRK2, PARKIN, and PINK1. Environmental factors such as exposure to pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, certain industrial chemicals, traumatic brain injury, and viral infections are also implicated.
III. Parkinson's Disease Diagnosis:
Diagnosing Parkinson's Disease relies primarily on clinical evaluation, including a detailed medical history, comprehensive physical examination, and assessment of both motor and non-motor symptoms. A diagnosis typically requires the presence of cardinal motor features along with a positive response to dopaminergic therapy. Neuroimaging techniques like MRI and PET scans may assist in excluding alternative diagnoses and monitoring disease progression.
IV. Treatment for Parkinson's Disease:
While Parkinson's Disease remains incurable, various treatment options aim to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life. Pharmacotherapy, including levodopa, dopamine agonists, MAO-B inhibitors, and COMT inhibitors, is central to management, aiming to restore dopamine levels, manage motor fluctuations, and alleviate non-motor symptoms. In advanced cases resistant to medication, surgical interventions like deep brain stimulation (DBS) may be considered, involving the implantation of electrodes to modulate abnormal neuronal activity and alleviate symptoms.
Early detection and intervention in Parkinson's disease can help in managing the condition better. This can be achieved by undergoing regular health checkups. You can opt for a regular full body health checkup at Jaslok Hospital Mumbai, which is one of India's finest hospitals for the management of neurological conditions like Parkinson's disease.
