"¡Chase Elliott vuelve a ganar increíblemente! #DemuroDebate

Dev Update to Despair Engine
1. Uh.
Tumblr media
So, haven’t touched it. Truth be told I’ve been enormously busy with day job related work matters and several offline life related matters, I haven’t even TOUCHED my computer in a week.
The blender exporter is my top priority for this project. If nothing else comes of this, a custom model format is something I want to be proud of accomplishing,
But I’ve also been passively looking into how I’d like to author the dialog database.
Waaaaay back like 400 years ago, when Flash was still popular I made a little thing called “CourtEngine”, which if you’re so inclined can see footage of in action here
youtube
That’s right, this isn’t ya boi’s first rodeo with visual novel engines.
Anyways, this little flash program would read an XML file for the dialog flow for Scenes.
I was extremely proud of his thing those 15 or so years ago. It was way more configurable than you might think at first. There was the characters folders that contained all of a characters static sprite work and animations (arranged in swf file sequences) and sounds. There was a .chr format “Character Definition” that was a pointer manifest and animation sequence registry. This is also where you’d register their name, default pose, what sound file to use when objecting, all that jazz. And to tie it all together was the Scene XML file.
Now I wrote that format with the intent of hand-authoring the xml in mind. I wanted it so easy to whip up a scene in a matter of minutes that I setup that CourtEngine demo in just a few. So you’d have a tag for text events like “<Dialog>this is some dialog</Dialog>” and to make it ridiculously simple you could simply supply a “for=‘phoenix’” attribute in the Dialog tag. That’s all the engine needed to determine what name to put in the on screen dialog box, loop the characters mouth animation registered to default pose, and EVEN automatically transition the camera over to the character speaking. All in one tag!
It made construction of dynamic scenes enormously easy to author. But y’see I learned a LOT when trying to reconstruct scenes from even the first game… one of those things?
Phoenix Weright breaks the rules ALL. THE. TIME.
Characters talk when not on screen. Random color events take place. Characters speed up and go on multi page auto ramblings. Camera focus is just arbitrary and does whatever it wants to do. Don’t even get me started on the bonkers amount of shocking implementation diversity when it comes collecting and presenting evidence.
One thing my format lacked too was proper interaction. Simply there was no mechanism for branching dialog. So CE I would brand a “playback Engine”
What it comes down too, is that I don’t know what kind of authoring system the Phoenix wright devs used when making the game. I have a feeling it was a general purpose scripting language because while it flows like normal 80% of the time, the last 20% treats everything as if it were completely malleable elements just floating in space to do whatever the devs wanted in the moment.
Doki Doki Literature Club isn’t all that different either.
And that’s my lesson. However my dialog engine works, Danganronpa isn’t that different when it comes to scriptable dialog moments.
I have a visual in my head of a Node Graph based approach. I like node graphs for a lot of data representation. But treating a dialog flow like a node cloud where dialogue can flow conditionally along edge traversal makes a whole lot of sense to me.
Ok that’s it for now
Till next time

The Final Countdown: Finish the last of your NH 48’s strong with Mount Monroe, Jefferson, Adams, and Washington
Congratulations! You have made it to the final installment of your Summit Adventure: Conquering New Hampshire's 48 4,000-Footers. Below are the last mountains you need to receive the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) patch. Buckle up, because it is going to be an amazing final four!
Mount Monroe - Elevation: 5384 ft
Difficulty Level: We hike on with Mount Monroe, another difficult mountain to summit. It is another peak in the presidential range, so all the cautions that I expressed in previous posts regarding weather and gear apply. Dangerous conditions are possible year round. Many people peak bag this mountain with Mount Washington, as they are 1.8 miles apart.  While many individuals choose various peaks to finish their 48’s on, the Washington + Monroe combination is a popular one.
Trail: The most direct route to summit Mount Monroe is via the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail. Mount Washington and Monroe are connected via Crawford Path/Appalachian trail, so another common way to peak back is to hike the Ammonoosuc trail, and hit the Crawford Path to Washington from there. Both AllTrails link below:

Mount Jefferson - Elevation: 5712 ft
Difficulty Level: Now we elevate almost 400 feet higher with Mount Jefferson. This is yet another difficult hike in the presidential range. There are various rock scrambles closer to the peak, which can also increase the intensity of summiting. Like many mountains in the presidential range, hiking Jefferson rewards you with incredible views.
Trail: The most direct route to summit Mount Jefferson is the Caps Ridge Trail. AllTrails link below:

Mount Adams - Elevation: 5774 ft
Difficulty Level: Mount Adams is considered a highly challenging, and extremely difficult hike. While this trek is shorter than some of the previous mountains I have detailed, I advise anyone who is considering this peak to proceed with immense caution. Mount Adams is renowned as challenging by even the most experienced of hikers. There is a consistently steep incline throughout the trail, but incredibly rewarding views once you summit.
Trail: The most direct route to summit Mount Adams is via the Air Line Trail. AllTrails link below:

Now the moment we have all been waiting for, I present to you the second-tallest mountain on the East Coast: Mount Washington. Before I detail the difficulty level and list the trail options for this summit, I would like to give a brief background on this peak. In 1932, the Mount Washington Observatory (located at the summit) was founded with the mission to maintain weather observations, perform research, and educate the public on the environment (Mount Washington.org). In addition to summiting via hike, the iconic Mount Washington can be accessed via the Cog Railway (the first Mountain-climbing cog railway in the world) or the Mount Washington Auto Road (road for cars). I have road the Cog multiple times, and it is increasingly special each visit. I highly recommend this option if you do not wish to hike.
For decades, Mount Washington is known for having the most extreme weather conditions in the United States. In fact, On February 3rd, 2023, scientists at the Mount Washington Observatory (located at the summit) recorded the lowest temperatures ever in the history of the United States! With windchill, the station’s instruments picked up a temperature of -108 degrees Fahrenheit. This broke the previous record (also held by Mount Washington) of -103 degrees. The mountain also has the second-highest wind gusts ever recorded in the world! On April 12th, 1934, the observatory measured a wind gust of 231 mph (Weather Underground.com).

Without further ado, below is the information regarding the difficulty level and trail options for this incredible summit.
Mount Washington - Elevation: 6288 ft
Difficulty Level: Is it no secret that Mount Washington is a difficult hike. Although, even though each route option is considered challenging, this hike is definitely not the hardest of the 48’s. What can truly make this mountain treacherous is the intense weather (mentioned above), especially in the winter. My advice to anyone is to monitor the weather, pack accordingly, and plan to hike in the months from May-October. Anyone considering hiking this mountain in the winter should check the observatory weather report prior. Even if the weather report seems good, always know when to turn around if it becomes too dangerous. If you catch this mountain on a bluebird day (sunny, no clouds, etc), the views are otherworldly.
Trail: The most common trails for Mount Washington are Tuckerman Ravine + Lion Head trail, Ammonoosuc Ravine trail (where you can peak bag Mount Monroe), and Jewell Trail. AllTrails links below:

Dr. Mary Travelbest - Venice Italy
In this episode, The Venice Episode,
   FAQ’s are:
  1. What about the possibility that the museums and galleries may not accurately represent the true history and experiences of these famous individuals?
  2. Have you considered tourism's impact on preserving historical landmarks and artifacts and is it sinking?
  3. How would you address those who argue that the cultural significance of these figures is exaggerated or overemphasized in the tourism industry?
The answers: Yes, it’s sinking, but slowly. Some of the historical figures may have been misrepresented. You still have time to explore the city. Is tourism here overrated? Listen for more following.
  Today’s Destination is Venice, Italy
Today’s Mistake- TSA found squash in my suitcase
Travel Advice:  Border crossing into Mexico
Today’s destination: Venice, Italy
Venice is a cultural center of Italy with 117 islands, 400 bridges, and 150 canals. The Grand Canal is the city's main artery and a must-see. While taking a gondola ride may seem corny, expensive, and embarrassing, there are plenty of other ways to explore the city. Fewer people live in Venice nowadays due to the city's sinking and high prices, but the region still attracts many tourists, Hollywood royalty, and artists.
A trip to Venice is incomplete without trying the seafood and espresso and visiting St Mark's Cathedral. The city's history is also rich with connections to famous figures such as Marco Polo, Casanova, and Vivaldi. I did not visit the museums, but I did see many of the churches here. There’s always next time, and I have seen museums in many other Italian cities. I wanted to be outside in the fresh air.
If you want to escape the crowds, venture out at dawn and get lost in the back alleys to discover magnificent churches and smelly canals. The Merchant of Venice, by Shakespeare, is another cultural treasure that can be enjoyed here.
While some private swim clubs charge 50 euros to swim, you can visit Saint Elena and Saint Mary Elizabeth at the end of the ferry’s Line 1 for a refreshing dip in the Adriatic Sea for free, as I did.
The Lido, St Nicholas of Tolentine Mass, and the train station are other notable destinations to visit. Be sure to bring an umbrella for shade and learn some Italian words to immerse yourself fully in the local culture.
Lastly, take the ferries everywhere to get around the city and enjoy the relaxed vibe of patient tourists walking and waiting. The Anda hostel near the train station is a recommended place to stay. While tickets to the Opera House may not be available at the last minute, this beautiful city has plenty of other cultural experiences. A day ticket on the ferries is cheap. Trains are all with AC
Today’s Mistake- TSA found squash in my suitcase
I grow vegetables and wanted to share the fruit of my crop with a friend. It was a surprise when TSA asked me to open my luggage to show them my squash. Oh well, that was just an unusual object for someone to carry in their bag.
Today’s Travel Advice- Border crossing into Mexico
If you are crossing the US border into Mexico, consider that the experience is always changing. Some days, the line will be long; other times, it could be shorter.
The last time I was there, it took 4 hours in the car to cross back to the USA. That is ideal if you all have a Global Entry and your car is registered. The wait will be short. You can also drop passengers off, and they walk across while you drive your Sentri-cleared vehicle across.
There could also be a long wait going to Mexico, so be prepared by checking in advance and getting auto insurance before you leave.

LOSING CALIFORNIA - Howe About That Race
The final race at the 2-mile configuration of what is known as Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California saw its checkered flag Sunday night. The Xfinity series after being weather delayed for rain and snow brought a close to the historic speedway. However, it was the Cup series show earlier in the day I want to talk about, and it has me asking, Howe About That Race?
The Pala Casino 400 started with final 5 wide salute, a cool presentation of the cars, which if this racetrack is turned into a short track like is planned, (on the remaining 89 acres that NASCAR didn’t sell) it certainly won’t be wide enough for something like that. It also won’t be able to put on the kind of racing that this track has come to be known for. On restarts, there is plenty of room fan out, and make your car work in which ever lane it wants to.
Fontana also provided race fans proof that NASCAR knew what they were doing with the next gen race car design. Last year’s race at Auto Club was fantastic, and almost had a classic (for those of us who grew up on early 2000’s NASCAR) feel to it. Comers and goers, mechanical failures, and consequences for spins. Maybe too much consequence when drivers had flat tires. Ultimately though, the racing product was embraced by fans first at this track in 2022, and after 2023’s event, many of us are still wondering why Fontana must change, even if NASCAR had roughly half a million reasons to do so.
Sunday’s race opened with Alex Bowman going to the lead from pole sitter Christopher Bell. The field shuffled after an early competition caution, and second caution would follow shortly after Brad Keselowski got turned in a racing deal by Corey Lajoie. Last year, those two probably would have had that incident battling in the back half of the field. This year, both drivers were well inside the top 15, and they would both rebound to finish there, with Keselowski scoring a much needed early top 10.
Ross Chastain took the win in stage 1 and 2, with Daniel Suarez also showing good pace. Trackhouse showed that 2022 was not a fluke. One of the races more dramatic moments came on a restart when drivers tried to anticipate a restart at lap 87. Joey Logano took the entire length of a newly extended restart zone in 2023 to mash the gas, while drivers like Chastain behind Joey tried to get a run by lagging back. When the 22 didn’t go, they had to lift or brake and soon the often talked about accordion effect took place and 10 drivers piled into the wreck, the main victims being Reddick, Bell, Almirola, and Preece.
Chastain got back to the front and the race settled into rhythm. There were multiple great battles between drivers throughout the field as the mix of this next gen car and the worn-out surface of Auto Club Speedway proved to be a rewarding mix for fans. A driver who found himself in plenty of great battles was Kyle Busch. The driver of #8 for Richard Childress Racing has had a great start to 2023 by having a podium finish at the Clash, and probably should have won the Daytona 500. After losing track position thanks to an early speeding penalty, Busch drove back through the field and emerged as the main competition to Chastain.
The success of the RCR #8 shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone. Crew Chief Randall Burnett and team brought Tyler Reddick a fast piece last year and repeated the performance this season. The difference? Burnett didn’t push tire pressures to the point of causing a flat, and Kyle Busch is now the man behind the wheel. Busch did not waste the opportunity, running down Chastain before a green flag pit stop cycle. Busch and the #8 crew got out ahead of the #1 and drove off to score the victory. Chase Elliott was awfully fast on the final stretch of green flag racing but would settle for second getting passed Chastain with 20 to go.
Kyle Busch made it 19 consecutive seasons with a victory, in his second points race for his third team ever in Richard Childress Racing. This pairing looks lethal early. Busch is motivated, the team is quickly bonding to their new driver. With Reddick winning 3 races in the same equipment last year, this win could be the catalyst for Busch to smash those numbers. It’s early, but Kyle Busch should be considered a championship contender. We probably won’t know who a favourite for the title is in ’23 until after the Coke 600 in May at Charlotte. However, if Busch and team can continue this consistency, and finish the west coast swing with solid finishes, it will go a long way to keep one of NASCAR’s greatest drivers focused on not just regaining former glory, but focused on what could be a very special year.
So, there it is, a driver who won his first cup series race at the 2-mile track in Fontana, California, wins the last on the configuration. Whether NASCAR can create a successful short track with what land is left in their possession remains to be seen. Regardless, this 2-mile track will be missed by fans and drivers, and 2023’s race proved why. That’s just my take, so what’s yours? I ask you, Howe About That Race?

Did You Notice?: The Black Cat Auto Club Mystery That's NASCAR's Latest Animal Encounter
Did You Notice? …. There appeared to be a black cat busy cursing the final laps of Auto Club Speedway? Frontstretch was first alerted to the cat by multiple fans inquiring about its existence; we’ve since confirmed through multiple sources a cat sauntered onto the racetrack midway through Sunday’s (Feb. 26) Pala Casino 400. Where […]

Kyle Busch
Kyle Busch is a current Nascar driver that first started racing in the truck series in 2001 at IRP speedway. He most recently just won the Pala Casino 400 in the Nascar Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway. According to Racing Reference (RacingReference.com) Kyle Busch now holds the record for most consecutive winning seasons with now 19 seasons in a row.
Tumblr media
After Kyle Busch won his 61st Cup Serie race many people believe he is going to win upwards of 4 to 5 wins this season which he has not achieved since 2019. Fox Sports (FoxSports.com) said that they believe Kyle Busch is a true Championship contender that can really put up a fight. Some people are even saying "you should be scared", after Busch won the race at Auto Club Speedway on February 26. Although Busch won his first race with his new team of RCR, but you do have to remember there is still 34 more races this year and anything could from now until November when Nascar is crowning their new champion. If Kyle can win 16 more races until his retirement he has the chance to catch one of the greats, Dale Earnhardt. Currently Busch sits in 9th in the all time wins list for the Cup Series. Hopefully Busch is able to reach the great feat of tying Dale Earnhardt's 76 wins by the time his career comes to a close, but we will just have to wait and see.
