Since the day YouTube Premium dropped in Canada, I have consumed 64% of a year's worth of time on the platform in what it called "Ad Free videos" and while true.. lol.
That's 5,660 hours of content on a screen somewhere. There's also an additional 290 hours of "background play" where the screen wasn't on, and another 230 hours listening to "YouTube Music" (Spotify is my main for that)
YouTube is without question far and beyond my most used website for literally anything and everything. It's even my first search engine for many topics.

I love this aesthetic
Splitting loot with a quantity popup box took so long to do! But at least I've got a lot of the form logic now for other UI things. Reminds me a lot of webdev work, programming in the how and when a form is submitted and dealing with model data.
Also the logic for just the inventory is actually massive after putting all this stuff in. I definitely won't be taking inventory systems for granted anymore. Technically the player and character body scripts combined are less code than the inventory now.

I hate that I giggled at this, and even had the cadence of the first and the song play in my head while reading the second

You’re kidding me.
I made this video back when TikTok was called Musical.ly, the entire point of the app, much liek what the point of early TikTok was, was to make video clips to snippets of non-royalty-free music
But now it’s a problem lol

Played some more this morning
Out of my 3 hours playing the game I didn’t encounter a single BT situation.
But last night when I encountered them on my way to the Wind Farm, I dunno they were more of an annoying obstacle content on just slowing me down and allowing the time fall rain to potentially ruin my cargo
And now I’ve got a bike 🏍️ makes things 400x easier
I dunno the challenge in this game is so all over the map. Dealing with the Tusken Raiders is the core challenge now and that’s just because they actively seek me and poke me with rods
Here’s the thing I don’t get though, and this isn’t just for Death Stranding so much as all games that do this, when you’re playing a character in an established worked that’s already experienced in doing something, could be YEARS of experience and knowledge, but then the games beginning treats you like a complete neophyte.
Sam isn’t unaware of the BTs, he’s not unaware of the raiders, he’ll he’s even ON a vehicle during the opening cinematic, and taking shelter from the time fall, showing some degree of awareness of what’s going on.
Yet you’re telling me, in no way, has he ever decided to arm himself with any form of self defence as a fucking precious material cargo delivery person. Just some basic bitch level punches and kicks to push problems out of the way. I understand not knowing what to do about the BTs until the events of the game take place… but there’s other real threats out there in the normal physical plane too. Not even a knife.
The only reason this happens is the same reason it happens in every other game that lets you take over the free will of an experienced character, and that’s to not make the game so easy at first. Gotta build it up. And no one could settle on a good excuse to bring you back down and humble you.
Anyways I think I love this game.
Death Stranding is a weird game man
Like I get it, I’m not breaking new ground with that assessment but like, hear me out
In a game that’s presenting this desperate desolate world on the brink of extinction, having been erraticated and torn apart by supernatural entities beyond everyone’s understanding, these things will grip you tight and send you to the other side for all manner of torture and despair.. the game demands that you sneak quietly, holding your breath even, while tensions rise as you watch your stamina deplete while a BT effectively hovers over your head, the floating baby in a jar that was extracted from a stillmother attached to your suit that enables you’re ability to see these runs is crying and stressing out.. all too deliver essential medical supplies to checkpoints that need it and the corpses of the very recently deceased to a remote incinerator to prevent them from “voiding out” which is in essence not too unlike a mini nuclear bomb going off wiping out anything and everything in the blast radius…..
But hey we’re over here collecting social media likes for deliveries, in your mail the NPCs will make sure to send you emojis to dot the end of every sentence 🤪😎😩 don’t forget to crank down that Monster brand energy drink, and get your next S rank AWESOME on your next delivery. Even the fucking baby attached to your suit can send you likes.
The tone whiplashes between serious thriller in a dire situation to a lighthearted adventure so freely and so often it’s difficult to nail down how I’m supposed to feel on the minute to minute
One second I’m onlooking a beach filled with the rotting carcasses of whales and other sea creatures, the next I’m getting one of these 😜 from one of the npc’s I’m delivering to and slamming like on some dudes nicely placed ladder
Baffling

hahaha.
hahahahaha.
I mean, you know what they say about going woke and going broke and all that. It always seems to ring true lol
hahahahahahahaha
There was one thing that Vice ever did that I really liked, but it was from Vice Canada. It was a piece of "gonzo journalism" (the quotes are here because Gonzo style isn't supposed to include personal bias, but this one did come in with bias fully charged to 100%) called "Armed and Reasonable"
youtube
If you don't feel like watching the video, here's the quick TL;DR synopsis:
Late millennial Torontonian woman with an "icky" opinion of firearms decides to go through the steps involved in what it takes to get a gun in Canada
Her friends are vehemently against this, afraid she'll turn into violent psychopath or risk getting shot. Each friend clearly enjoying a sheltered city life of daily Starbucks and high-privilege.
She's surprised at how much the firearms are treated with respect towards safety and laws first by the gun owning community
She has an emotional breakdown not by shooting but by being near a higher caliber rifle going off. Likely having been overwhelmed by the concussive shockwave. The lady who fired the rifle consoles her on camera.
She's also a bit surprised at just how many women are a part of the sport shooting community
Discovering how painfully annoying both the course and the written & practical exams are to get through and pass just for a non-restricted license
Shock at how long the approval process is for the license
Shocked at how long it then takes for the physical license to then show up in the mail
Buys a Henry Golden Boy lever action rifle in a local gun store. This is a 22LR. She at least bought within her comfort zone. Responsible choice. Also as an aside, an excellent choice even if they didn't know it and were just giggling at the name. It is a very pleasant and fun to shoot rimfire rifle platform that I can easily recommend to any current or future gun owner.
Brings her yuppie friends along to the range, and they wind up having a great time
Her friends now have a bit of understanding why people might like target shooting. They "get it" a bit more.
She winds up selling her rifle because she realizes the literal mountain of laws and regulations Canadian gun owners have to navigate and respect just aren't something she's willing to continue dealing with
Comes away with a deeper appreciation and far more knowledge about the subject at hand, but recognizes it's just not for her. A completely fair and responsible assessment.
