A Postcard Story:
So for Dean's 46th this year, he decides to drag his husband around the states in Baby, ordering radio silence from his family to enjoy the open road, wherever the road takes them.
Here's a thread of postcards he sends Sam along the roadtrip:
Seattle was a nice place to start, people are kind and there's a lot of good food he's never tried. Dean was just glad that Cas could fly Baby with them to get there. Don't get him wrong, angel flight sucks too, for his stomach in particular, but it's nowhere near as bad as a plane.
When they drove into Cali, he was glad they managed to see the bridge in all it's glory. Real movie moment for him. They relaxed in Santa Cruz for a while, enjoying the views along the Pacific coast highway. He brought the Hawaiian shirts they bought when they all went to Gran Canaria a few summers ago as a family, getting nice tans before moving on.
Cas didn't let him rest for long when they got to L.A, asking Dean to hear him out before getting mad as he dragged him out. All frustration disappeared when they arrived at the studio though, Dean nerded out about the themed restaurants and rides while there was a mustard stain on his chin from chili dog he devoured. Cas was just happy to eat a burger and see Dean smile.
Tombstone flipped the tables for them. Now Cas loves his husband's passion, it's one of the most endearing qualities, he'd never let anyone dim the brightness he has talking about cowboys and westerns. But it can be a lot sometimes. He was committed to buying them both a full cowboy outfit before they left. Plus a hat for Jack, a buckle for Sam, new cowboy boots for Eileen and souvenirs he could hand out to the family.
Despite it being hot as balls, Dean loved being in Texas again. They ate some good authentic barbeque and went to a few museums Cas was interested in. Dean liked hearing him talk about the old buildings, the history and changes the landscape went through and Cas liked seeing Dean take selfies in front of the world's tallest cowboy boots, having to stop him promptly from climbing it and potentially breaking his back from a fall.
They took it slow in New Orleans, strolling down the french quarter like they were a couple courting in some Edwardian romance. It was warm but not oppressive, content to walk aimlessly, hand in hand, while the sounds of buskers playing strings echoed around the alleys. They danced under a street lamp, and kissed sweetly when the moon rose, all he could think about was how he felt safe in Cas' arms.
Dean loved it in Downtown, he felt right at home, locals welcoming him and Cas with open arms. They passed him free drinks when they saw their rings, pushed him on stage to sing some tipsy version of 'Should've been a cowboy'. Cas seemed to find it funny. He wouldn't say why.
He'd forgotten what a real Philly cheese steak was supposed to taste like but fuck him, he can't ever go back. One of the owners happily gave him the recipe, challenging him in recreating the sandwich he ordered. He's not got it perfect yet, but he's determined. At least Cas is a bottomless pit who can eat all the failed attempts he makes, zero waste fun!
New York was strange. He kept thinking about all the eccentrics and wide eyed kids who probably had dreams he'd never even considered before. At least when he looks at Cas now, he doesn't think he's done badly, hell maybe he's living a dream these New Yorkers wish they had too. He can't imagine what it's like to hedge all your scraped money and efforts on a chance of making it big as any kind of artist. He's pretty sure he already hit the jackpot with his life.
Teaching Cas to fish in Maine was a tumultuous task to put it nicely. Cas is already bitchy enough and Dean knows he can give as good as he gets, but they agreed never to go on a tiny boat alone together if one of them doesn't want to be drowned. Not to say they didn't have a good time though. They enjoyed the quiet of the calm waters and the breeze on their skin. Cas' first successful catch of the visit put them at ease, hell they were gonna drink a bottle of whiskey to celebrate, he got a pretty big one after all.
Cas was really making use of that sketchpad. He bought it for his husband a couple hundred miles back, noticing him sketching absent mindedly whenever there was a moment of reprieve. Dean hasn't seen everything inside, but he's seriously amazed at Cas' talent. Who knew right? It's a good way to store the memories, something more personal than the dorky couple selfies they took together in front of the falls. He'll look through them fondly later, remembering the time he took to enjoy his life, and enjoy Cas. Both things he's taken for granted before. He's learned his lesson now.
“It was awesome, seriously, and the water was so clear too, y'know? I asked Cas about Paradise falls on the way home” “The one in Venezuela?” Sam surmises, nursing his beer with a small smile. “Yeah! Well he said that he'd been a couple times centuries ago and it felt pretty magical then, and then I said ‘Did you know they're called Angel Falls too?’ and he gave me that look–” “I did not give you that look.” Cas frowns. “You totally did, Sam, you know the one.” “I did not give any looks, I just said that I was aware, and that was that.” Sam watches them both roll their eyes fondly at each other, hands definitely held together under the map table. “Whatever, my point is, we should totally go there together! I mean with the Angel flight express we could camp somewhere pretty close to the falls themselves.” “Like in 'Up' ? I'm in!” Jack says with a bright smile. Dean high fives him and Cas just sighs in exasperation. Eileen watches them all fondly, chin resting on her hand, likely feeling the same longing ache Sam does easing as she watches them all in the same space again. Sam missed this. He was really happy that Dean wanted to take time away for himself, for Cas too. They deserved to disappear from the world and live some of the life they both missed out on. But damn did he miss his family's regular bullshit, nothing makes him happier. “You know what, that sounds like a great idea.” Dean looks back at him with surprise, but it quickly shifts into that signature grin. “That's what I wanna hear! I knew I could count on you Sammy.” “How about we feed you before you go taking us to the other end of the world? Can't plan for reckless journeys on empty stomachs.” Ellen segways smartly. Dean claps his hands and points at her in agreement and they all start to get up to move. Sam sits and watches for a few seconds, just to be grateful for what he has. “Sammy, you good man?” Dean asks, looking back over his shoulder. “Yeah, yeah I'm good. Oh hey, Dean?” Dean raises his eyebrows in question. “Happy birthday.” Dean rolls his eyes, but smiles at him, and they walk together towards the kitchen.

I found a book of prophecies at the local business school. All of this will happen in 2026
Schools realizing giving small children Chromebooks is a bit much and start handing out garter snakes instead
Elon Musk tries to invent a version of Scientology based on "epic memes" that just ends up being a bunch of "founders" discussing how to blow up a nearby homeless shelter. Musk escapes all legal evasion because American institutions need to protect him in the name of Rich Man Good
A county school system in the Seattle metro area cut arts, drama, history, and literature and replaces it with the Amazon System For Learn2Code.Biz, featuring Mr. Beast speaking at the graduating ceremony
A reality show about how much landlords cry when they evict people is critically lauded
The bees come back out of nowhere. And nobody knows where they came from or where they were. Everyone decides this is fine, decides not to look a gift horse in the mouth
Jon Taffer, of Bar Rescue fame, runs for Senate and ends up winning by three votes
The American Medical Association says eugenics can be "done right, ethically, thanks to our partnership with OpenAI"
When the US isn't able to buy TikTok, it just floods it with influencers who talk about the "Saudi-Israeli prosperity plan." One of them ends up leading the Neom Secession Movement before being killed by Mr. Beast (not related to the Neom Secession Movement it's a hit and run while he films in Neom)
Former US president William Howard Taft is rumored to be spotted in Henderson, Nevada. This goes viral on Twitter and then it turns out to just be a guy
The Atlantic publishes an article by a war criminal about how philosophy departments need to admit morals are "fake and gay." It turns out the author was ghostwritten by his 14-year-old groyper janissary
An Ivy League law professor opens up a restaurant themed around "what if Olive Garden was authentic." It ends up revealing a massive tax evasion movement that ends up with three senators, seventeen Twitch streamers, and five major CEOs arrested
David Zaslav awarded a cultural medal by George W. Bush, who is somehow president again (to the joy of all Americans)
Mr. Beast supposedly finds the golden plates of Mormonism but buries them again
J. K. Rowling claims that sinking the migrant boat was necessary because they might have been exposed to "transgender ideology"
The Broadway musical of Rick and Morty, starring Jon Taffer as Rick and Mr. Beast as Morty, sweeps the Oscars despite not being a film, in no small part because Broadway partnered with OpenAI, who sponsored the Oscars. The host is made of entire pure ChatGPT and it's found out when someone tries to fuck him on stage.
The private equity epidemic is solved when the president of the United States, Jon Taffer, helps the restaurant and service industry find its niche with safe, corporate logos and mediocre brew. In addition to his presidential duties, Bar Rescue is on its 171th season, which also features Mr. Beast pretending to cure the bartenders' "genetic weaknesses" with his osteopathic touch

El precio del turismo de masas - La tienda los 8 caños, Ronda, 2016.
Ronda, the legendary cradle of Spanish style bullfighting, has been a tourist attraction for a very long time. Among others writing in English, Richard Ford in his rather ill-tempered Handbook for Travellers in Spain (1832) describes how to make a visit. Prosper Méremée based his work from which the opera Carmen was derived on a stay at about the same time.
I first visited the town almost a half century ago when it had only a smattering of tourist centric activity. Now it is on the mass tourism circuit. Cruise ships docking in Málaga or even Cádiz offer excursions for their passengers, and it is on most tour operators' Andalusian itineraries. Many of Ronda's old town buildings are now used to vend tourist services and treasures. Restaurants on the cliff for which the town is famous offer menus in English and usually also in German and French. On my 2016 visit I mistakenly stopped for lunch at one where there was no written menu in Castellano as few Spanish speakers went there. The cuisine on offer is usually generic with no authentic cocina andaluza but rather those dishes associated with Spain by tourists (tapas, typical of central Spain or paella, a Valencian dish for example - reminiscent of ordering Boston baked beans in New Orleans or shrimp and grits in Seattle).
If one is a bullfighting aficionado or just wants to see a corrida for the experience, Ronda's historic bull ring remains the place to do so. Tourists are mostly fascinated with the building and its history not with the bloody spectacle itself. Tour busses usually do not stay long enough for day trippers to be herded in to see a corrida, and thus most of those in the audience are not t-shirt tourists. If you should go, remember to get a sombra seat, a little more expensive, as the afternoon sun can be quite hot, and its glare can be a problem.
Waiting for the corrida to begin, look for a snack shop offering bocadillos y bebidas rather than sandwiches and drinks.

The Seattle Mariners, along with Hatback Bar & Grille and Steelheads Alley, welcome you to Victory Hall.
image of Victory Hall, courtesy the Seattle Mariners
Located just minutes from the T-Mobile Park, Hatchback Bar & Grille and Steelheads Alley invite you to visit Victory Hall. Opening on Opening Day celebrating the start of the Seattle Mariners’ 2023 season, Victory Hall is your launchpad or home base for Seattle sports.
Opening at 3 pm, March 30th, fans and visitors will be nourished by two full-service bars, with 20 beers on draft all from the comfort of a 21 and over, exclusive indoor beer garden. During your visit, you’ll be serenaded by Deejay Hershe with the backdrop of baseball (or other sporting events) projected against a 20’ x 11’ TV. Course, for those who wish to roam you’ll catch up on the game, teams around the country, from five 100-inch flat screens throughout the space.
Whether you're transcending between the indoor beer garden or the 1,200 square-foot outdoor patio, a breathtaking folding glass door greets you.
For those assuming this space is exclusive for the Seattle Mariners, the managers and staff have confirmed this will be an official bar for the Seahawks, Sounder, along with the Mariners. But like any sports watching destination, the televised games will change each day, with schedules posted on the Victory Hall website.
For those looking for an early start on Opening Day, look to the adjacent Hatback Bar & Grille and Steelheads Alley, which will be open at 11am.
While you’re there, check out Opening Day food trucks, Paella House and Isidro’s Authentic Mexican Food.
Reaching out to Victory Bar regarding the construction and what made this building so unique they shared the following.
Victory Hall is housed in a historical railroad warehouse that dates back to 1914. The 9,500-square-foot space features 18-foot ceilings, preserved fir tree columns, historically preserved wooden ceiling beams, the original exposed brick walls, and the remains of a painted mural that is believed to have been the exterior facade of the 1914 warehouse.
Luxurious polished concrete floors are surrounded by blackened wood walls stained to mirror the bar counters made by Pioneer Millwork using the Shou Sugi Ban method, a Japanese technique used to industrially char wood. The space boasts 10 industrial chic steel chandeliers custom designed and fabricated by Resolute. The cut-out motif of the lighting is inspired by baseball stitching and a nod to the Mariners.
Besides food, drinks, audio-visual entertainment, and two locations for socializing, Victory Hall has partnered with Apicii, with its best-in-class catering, for those wishing to host events at Victory Hill.
Besides this, the Mariners are opening The Boxyard which will feature an indoor beer garden, during Mariners, Sounders, or Seahawks home games, as well as concerts. All of this including Hatback Bar & Grille, Steelheads Alley, and the upcoming baseball and softball training center, await everyone. Reflecting on the progress towards creating an entertainment destination for Seattle sports fans, Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President Fred Rivera shared this.
We’re excited for our fans to be able to experience Victory Hall on Opening Day and continue to see The Boxyard grow. Our expansion in the Sodo neighborhood is part of our larger goal to invest in our community and help bring more economic opportunities to the place we call home.
Victory Hall is at 12011st Ave South in Seattle, Washington, next to Hatback Bar & Grille and Steelheads Alley. For more information including games, events, and hours, visit www.mariners.com/victoryhall.

Seattle's Waterfront Wonders
Seattle’s waterfront offers an incredible mix of scenic beauty, historic charm, and modern attractions. From bustling piers to quiet beach spots, here’s my guide to making the most of Seattle’s beautiful shoreline.
1. The Great Wheel on Pier 57
I would say other than the Space Needle, The Great Wheel is another spot that makes Seattle, Seattle. Take in panoramic views of the Seattle skyline and Puget Sound from the Seattle Great Wheel. This iconic Ferris wheel is one of the largest on the West Coast, providing a thrilling perspective of the city from 175 feet above ground. If you are scared of heights, I would not recommend, however, the views atop are a great way to see Seattle as a whole.
2. Olympic Sculpture Park
This waterfront park features contemporary sculptures set against the backdrop of Puget Sound. It’s free to the public, and the scenic pathways are perfect for a relaxing stroll while admiring large-scale art pieces and beautiful water views.
3. Alki Beach
For a laid-back beach experience, head over to Alki Beach in West Seattle. Known for its sandy shores and beachside paths, it’s a great spot for a walk, beach volleyball, or just taking in the sunset with a view of downtown Seattle in the distance. There are also many great restaurants to check out in West Seattle, so come hungry!
4. Seattle Aquarium
Located on Pier 59, the Seattle Aquarium is a must-visit for families or marine-life enthusiasts. With touch pools, interactive exhibits, and a giant octopus on display, it offers an up-close look at the local sea life.
5. Pier 62’s Outdoor Events
Pier 62, one of the oldest piers on Seattle’s waterfront, has been revitalized and is now a hub for community events, from outdoor concerts to yoga classes. Check out the event schedule and stop by for a unique outdoor experience. If you are hungry, check out the first Ivars for some authentic Seattle seafood!
Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or a chance to explore Seattle’s maritime history, the waterfront has it all.

Can You Guess Your State's Favorite Sitcom from the 90s?
The 1990s was a golden era for sitcoms. Shows like "Friends," "Seinfeld," and "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" dominated the airwaves and became cultural touchstones that still resonate today. But did you know that the popularity of these shows varied significantly across different states? Let's take a nostalgic journey through the decade and explore which 90s sitcoms were most beloved in various parts of the United States. Can you guess your state's favorite?
The National Favorites
Before diving into state-specific preferences, it’s essential to acknowledge the sitcoms that achieved nationwide acclaim. "Friends" and "Seinfeld" were undoubtedly the titans of the era, with "Friends" offering a blend of humor and heartfelt moments, and "Seinfeld" delivering its unique brand of "show about nothing" comedy. "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" also stood out, blending comedy with poignant social commentary, and of course, "Full House" became synonymous with family-friendly fun.
East Coast Classics
New York
Unsurprisingly, New York’s favorite was "Seinfeld." Set in Manhattan, the show encapsulated the quirky, fast-paced lifestyle of New Yorkers. With its iconic scenes in Tom’s Restaurant and the characters’ humorous yet relatable dilemmas, "Seinfeld" felt like a mirror to the everyday life of the city's residents.
New Jersey
Just across the Hudson River, New Jersey had a penchant for "Friends." The show, centered around six friends living in New York City, struck a chord with many in the Garden State. The characters’ escapades in Central Perk and their varied, often comedic, love lives provided a sense of camaraderie and humor that resonated deeply.
Southern Comfort
Texas
In the Lone Star State, "King of the Hill" reigned supreme. This animated sitcom, set in the fictional town of Arlen, Texas, followed the life of Hank Hill and his family. Its portrayal of suburban life, local customs, and regional accents felt authentically Texan, earning it a special place in the hearts of many Texans.
Georgia
Georgia, on the other hand, leaned towards "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." The show’s exploration of cultural and social issues through the lens of comedy, combined with Will Smith’s charisma, made it a favorite in the Peach State. Its themes of family, friendship, and overcoming adversity resonated widely.
Midwest Favorites
Illinois
In Illinois, particularly in Chicago, "Family Matters" was a beloved favorite. This show, which featured the Winslow family and their nerdy neighbor Steve Urkel, was set in Chicago. Its focus on family values, community, and the hilarious antics of Urkel made it a hit among Illinois residents.
Ohio
Ohioans found comfort and laughs in "Roseanne." This sitcom portrayed the everyday struggles and triumphs of the working-class Conner family. Its realistic depiction of blue-collar life in the Midwest, combined with sharp humor, struck a chord with many in Ohio.
West Coast Wonders
California
California’s vast and diverse population had varied tastes, but "Full House" emerged as a favorite. Set in San Francisco, the show’s portrayal of the Tanner family navigating life’s ups and downs with love and laughter resonated deeply. The iconic opening scene featuring the Golden Gate Bridge became synonymous with Californian identity.
Washington
Up in the Pacific Northwest, Washington residents showed a strong preference for "Frasier." Set in Seattle, this "Cheers" spin-off followed Dr. Frasier Crane, a sophisticated yet comically flawed radio psychiatrist. The show’s witty humor and the depiction of Seattle’s culture made it a standout in the region.
Heartland Hits
Kansas
"Kansas was particularly fond of "Home Improvement." The show, starring Tim Allen as Tim "The Toolman" Taylor, focused on the misadventures of a TV show host and his family in suburban Detroit. Conclusion
The 90s was a decade rich with sitcoms that not only entertained but also reflected the diverse tapestry of American life. While some shows enjoyed nationwide popularity, others found particular resonance in specific states due to their settings, themes, and characters. Whether it was the urban humor of "Seinfeld" and "Friends," the family values of "Full House" and "Family Matters," or the unique charm of "King of the Hill" and "Frasier," each state had its own favorite that brought joy and laughter to its residents.
So, can you guess your state's favorite 90s sitcom? Perhaps it’s one of the iconic shows mentioned above, or maybe it’s another gem that captured the hearts of viewers in your area. One thing is certain: the legacy of these beloved sitcoms continues to live on, bringing smiles and fond memories to fans across the country.

Reflections from Madrid
Hi Everyone! Get ready for the final blog post… I won't say all the cliche stuff like "Madrid changed my life" or "I'm a new person" or that stuff. I just wrote down a couple of points I reflected on and will keep this as short as possible. Here we go, in no particular order:
Moving to a new place doesn't automatically make you grow as a person. I think people expect or see studying abroad as a 'fresh start.' But I was still the same person when I arrived in Madrid as I was two days ago in Seattle. You still have to put the work in to grow as a person, get outside your comfort zone, and expand your worldview. Because it's actually pretty easy to just stay within a bubble of UM and international students, speak only English, and be a tourist the whole time.
I wish I had known Spanish better before I came to Madrid. I still feel like a tourist a lot of the time when I can't speak Spanish well. I miss the banter I have with people in English, like strangers on the street, people in restaurants, or Uber drivers. Unfortunately, it's one thing I'm excited about when I go home.
Of all the people from around the world that I've met, South Americans and Africans are the most friendly and genuine.
Being in an uncomfortable environment truly shows the authentic character of people. Everyone is happy in an environment they are comfortable in. You see someone's real personality when they are put in an uncomfortable environment.
The study abroad experience is very romanticized, but the majority of what is portrayed is from very privileged individuals. For example, the non-white woman of color experience vastly differs from the white woman's study abroad experience (also recognizing my privilege as a light-skinned person). This dynamic isn't explored enough in detail before studying abroad or during, and I have had to seek out these conversations. Additionally, socioeconomic status layers on top of this conversation. We primarily see the perspective of studying abroad from people who have the means to pay and go abroad (and usually have the means to do other things than study, for example, travel to other countries).
Everyone is on their own journey abroad. Some people have experienced culture before if they or their family grew up in a different country. Some people are experiencing culture for the first time in Spain. This difference in experience doesn't mean that one person's journey is better or worse than the other- just different.
There's no big realization or moral to the story. I don't have a way to nicely tie these points into each other. It is what it is.
I'm still in Madrid for another 3 and half weeks, and going to spend it eating, sleeping, and being with good friends. I have loved living in Madrid but recognize that the next part of my life is starting in the US, centered around my job. I'm not even particularly mad about that because I realize this life of leisure is temporary and not conducive to my life and career. But I'm so thankful for everything I've learned here, the people I've met, and the ways I've grown as a person. Bye Madrid! I'll most definitely return at some later point in my life! To end my last post, here are some of my favorite photos from the past four months:
