Recently started watching motopg (I've become a huge marc fan). I wanted to watch some of the old races, and sooo... which races do u think are the most iconic/ which ones are entertaining to watch (no pressure, u don't have to answer this ask<3)
Tumblr media
HIII welcome to motogp 🥳🥳🥳 okay so i’m terrible remembering old races so if you want something older than 2013 (i rewatch 2013-2019 races A LOT during marc’s injured days so they’re like branded in my brain) i would invite other mutuals to reblog this with their recs. OKAY SO LETS GO
1. assen 2018 aka everyone’s favorite race. THIS is the race everyone and their mothers will name drop when people from other motorsports start coming for motogp okay… i’ve converted 3 people into this sport from that race alone 🙂‍↔️🙂‍↔️
2. any phillip island races are instant classics sooo you can pick any of them no matter the year (shout out to 2015 and 2017 personally)
okay now moving forward to marc centric races bc i am a marc fan first and foremost sooo:
sachsenring 2016 brno 2017 and san marino 2017 for introduction to mixed condition specialist marc marquez <3
silverstone 2013 mugello 2016 austria 2018 bc i love good old marquenzo duels <3
if u want to see recent good ol marc comeback races assen 2021 and cota 2022... p20 to p7 and p24 to p6.... in THAT honda.... everyone pls bow down.....
aragon 2021 is also fun i love a good honda marc duel with ducati.... sachsenring 2017 or '18 (?) duel with folger is also fun.....
i think some motegi ('17? '16?) and aragon '18? were fun too.... okay my brain blanks out i forget all races now pls i need my mutuals to intervene sorry KJSKSJHSJKS i have memory of a goldfish….

Austria 2018
-Shortest circuit of the season
-Mercedes have won here since 2014! And have a front row lockout again!
-Championship battle between Seb and Lewis again
-Very random but the graphics are better this season
-Ooh Valterri has pole!
-Oh? Daniel’s 29th birthday? Nice!
-Carlos is in Renault!
-Pfft apparently Ocon and Gasly are already clashing (they’re not even on the same team yet)
-Charles Leclerc is here this season!!!
-I’m looking forward to seeing his old races
-Fernando starting from the pit lane (Maybe I’ll actually see someone start from there this time)
-“Lance Stroll who is a traditionally very fast starter” Is it the Aston Martin that sucks then?
-“Only 2 drivers have ever won a Grand Prix on their birthday” who??
-George Russell!!!!
-Ohmygod Kimi had such a good start and then he lost it!!
-Both the Ferraris going wide
-Can I root for Nico having a good race this time or is that a lost cause?
-Charles going up 3 places 👏👏
-Oh no he went wide! He’s p19 now! (I may have jinxed him 🫣)
-Toto’s reactions are so emphatic
-Not me focusing more on Charles moving from p19 to p17 than focusing on whatever is happening out in the front
-“Nico Hulkenburg in trouble I think there” NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT! JUST WHY!
-I hate this Renault
-Sigh, at least let Sainz pick up a point or two
-Oh no! Valterri retiring too??
-I’m sensing that the cars did not in fact get better in 2018
-Stacking pit stops for one team looks very cool
-Yay Sainz in points
-New season and still no radio subtitles, the disappointment is real
-Ricciardo p3!! Red Bull 2-3!!
-Kimi locked up so many times this race
-The Williams and Sauber look so similar
-Fred Vasseur is Sauber’s team principal? No wonder Charles works well with him now, he basically debuted under him
-Lewis running out of power too?
-Just learnt about blistering in real time. Really wish I didn’t learn about that through Daniel Ricciardo’s tires
-Sainz has dropped to p17, my curse on Renault worked a little too well (It was supposed to avoid you Carlos, I’m sorry)
-I’m going to be so sad if Daniel loses p2 on his birthday
-Big sigh
-That was a smooth overtake by Vettel on Hamilton
-Ferrari 2-3 now
-James Vowles: “Lewis, sorry. I have thrown away the win today but you can still go back up there, I believe in you”
-If I was Lewis I would so curse the man out
-Oh come on, let the Ferraris race
-I’m going to be so annoyed if the team just makes them swap positions without letting them fight
-“What about Max Verstappen?” “Is he still in the race?” lol as he leads 7 seconds ahead
-Oh Charles in p13
-p12
-“I’m feeling good so don’t worry” At least Max is having a good day
-Haas is having a good day too, which is really weird to say, but I hope they have a good day at COTA 2024 too
-Oh for god’s sake, Red Bull was supposed to have a better car this season, why is Daniel out rn, on his birthday too
-At least Charles is in the points now
-“We are not okay, we are not okay” I see the Toro Rosso has not improved at all
-From a Mercedes 1-2 to a Red Bull 1-2. If Ferrari manage to overtake Max, it would be a Ferrari 1-2.
-That would be a crazy race run
-“Unless, if the two Ferraris and Red Bull blow their tires up now, Hamilton might still have a chance here” Now that’s a tall order
-Nice move there from Checo
-Woah cars up to p5 have been lapped
-Oh no Charles out of the points again
-* gasp * Lewis actually lost power! No way!
-Who put a curse on the Mercedes this race??
-My only consolation, once again, is that this means Charles is back in the points
-p9!
-“They’re looking maybe for some divine inspiration to help Max Verstappen to win the race here” yes me too
-“I think he should keep that rear tire if he wins this Grand Prix, make a coffee table out of it”
“Kiss it for good luck maybe”
Oh these guys think they’re so funny
-One more lap, ohmygod this is stressful, I can’t believe I’m worrying about tires, what has life come to
-Come on come on come on
-Let’s go Max!!!!!
“Aah this is amazing, in front of all those fans, in the Red Bull ring, with a Red Bull” yesss let’s go!
-Aww the mechanics just pulling him into a group hug
“Your fourth Red Bull victory. It felt like your first now with Kimi Raikkonen chasing you down till the last lap” That’s such a good call back
-The last time Mercedes had a double mechanical retirement was in 1955- that’s crazy. They really did get cursed.
-They’re all so cute on the podium
-Adorable fr

Seb helmets: the long awaited sequel
Mugello 2020:
Tumblr media
Not on Seb's website, but still on ferraris instagram, Seb had this helmet to celebrate Ferraris 1000th gp. (in the same week, he announced his move to aston martin)
Turkish GP 2021
Tumblr media
a beautiful sea creature design to remind us to save our oceans. i personally really love the turtles
Singapore GP 2022
Tumblr media
gorgeous neon rainbow on super light absorbent black design. now it can be said with finality (as of yet): jens munser and sebastian vettel never missed when it was about helmets in singapore. i have a keychain of this helmet so I'm especially fond of it.
British GP 2022
Tumblr media
ngl i cried a bit just from pulling those pictures up again. he is so loved. i love how even though we know barely anything about sebs family, this helmet shows so much personality from his kids and hanna. this is the most gorgeous helmet of them all. however, shoutout to the subtle nigel mansell design hed have driven with if his family hadn't made a secret birthday helmet for him.
Abu Dhabi 2022
Tumblr media
I'm so so proud to be a fan of a driver who loves his fans. The few times I've met Seb, he's always taken his time - often more than allotted - to greet as many people as he could, pose for pictures sign things etc. He feels very genuine in showing his appreciation for his fans and so I think this helmet is a beautiful monument to the love people have for him. He is deeply beloved and in turn, he loves his fans and has shown this from his retirement message that was so much more personal than a press release, over the time between the announcement to his last race and beyond. This helmet is a testament to the way we love Seb and the way he loves us back.
USGP 2022
Tumblr media
Peace and Love baby! this gorgeous woodstock inspired piece is incredibly gaudy and glittery and very unapologetically so. i love it deeply but opinions were very split on it
Japan 2022
Tumblr media
a very cleverly done thank you to helmet provider arai. who doesn't love opening packages? especially one as beautiful as this one! it's a bit sad to not have the little ninja mascot on the helmet for sebs last f1 race in japan, however, with his 2022 helmet designs being so beautiful and elevated, he outgrew it a bit. important side note about japan 2022 here is sebs battle to the line with fernando alonso.
Hungary 2021
Tumblr media
Let us remember this GP for the joy it brought and not the desperation that followed. Seb came, saw and served cunt in his rainbow sneakers, rainbow shirt, rainbow mask and rainbow helmet. He drove to the podium and nothing bad or terrible happened after.
Brazil 2022
Tumblr media
the intertwined bars of the german and then, further up, the climate change flag (and the brazilian one on top) are reminiscent of the 2018 german gp helmet!
Austria 2022
Tumblr media
The iconic bee helmet! I actually have a few pics of this one from the Austrian GP that i took myself. Even though that GP specifically sucked so hard it made Seb sway towards retiring, the helmet is beautiful and iconic.
Honourable Mentions:
- Miami 2022: the snorkel helmet! first GP underwater, also premiering sebs GIGANTICALLY OVERSIZED climate change t shirt also found in his shoo
- Canada 2022: Canadas Climate Crimes/ stop mining tar sands. this one made a politician on twitter sooooo angry. it lost her rant a bit of credibility that she directly profited from the tar sand mining.
- LGBTQ+ CLEAN OUR OCEANS (Abu Dhabi 2021): the world's to do list. i mostly have to laugh at the unlucky placement of the lgbtq+ and the clean our oceans phrase. why are the cishets exempt from cleaning our oceans? questionable.
- Race4Women: Saudi Arabia 2021. a return of the beautiful day-glow paint.
almost all of sebs helmets are either on the sebsite or deep in jens munsers archives (difficult but not impossible to find)

Note
hi again!
did lestappen really unfollow each other after the Austrian gp 2019? why?
ps: im new here
Hi anon, and welcome to the unhinged world of Lestappen lore! We're so happy to have you. ❤️
Now have a seat and get cozy, because it's story time.
Charles made it into F1 in 2018 and after spending his maiden season at Alfa Romeo Sauber, his life-long dream finally came true as he was snatched up by Scuderia Ferrari to replace the man, the myth, the legend that is Kimi Räikkönen. Needless to say, 2019 was a big year for Charles. His first season in the team he had always dreamed of driving for. He was ready. He was hungry.
Now, enter Max Emilian Verstappen, who at this point had already been in F1 since 2015, when he was signed at the ripe age of 17. Already a seasoned F1 driver, which is impressive as fuck at that age. At this point, Max and Charles were following each other on social media. After all, they'd known each other for most of their lives, had grown up together in karting, and were now competing at the top level.
Today, we know Austria as the Lestappen holy ground following that podium in 2022. (Borderline pornographic podium celebration? Don't mind if I do.) But, it had potential to become the Lestappen holy ground even back in 2019, because Max and Charles were on fire. Talking, laughing, joking, mirroring each other in the pre-race press conference, and generally acting like teenagers with a crush. (As you do with your emotional support rival.) Things were good. Great, even.
And then Sunday rolled around, and the race happened. Charles and Max were doing what they do best and what they love the most, namely fighting each other on track, likely having the time of their fucking lives. But then this overtake happened, there's a little bit of contact and Charles briefly ends up off the track, and Max goes on to win the race, with Charles finishing P2. (Anyone else hearing "He's just unfair. I'm leading, he wants to pass, he push me, I push him back" and "Nothing, just an inchident"? in their heads watching that overtake? Just me? Okay.)
Charles was pissed, absolutely convinced that Max had done something wrong, that it wasn't a clean move, and the move was investigated, as all similar moves are. FIA, however, ends up deeming it a clean move and Max doesn't get a penalty, meaning his win stands. And, well, this is where Charles Leclerc shows the world what it means to truly be ✨dramatic.✨ (We love a dramatic king in this house, ngl. Nothing is more entertaining to me than grown-ass men acting like children.)
A look that could kill? Check. Dramatically fixing your cap? Check. Looking away dramatically while plotting someone else's demise? Check. Looking like finishing P2 is not a huge accomplishment in your first season in Scuderia Ferrari? Check. Squeezing past as the winner getting drenched in champagne because you're not about to stand there and watch him celebrate? Check. Whatever the fuck this face is? Check.
Now, here's where it gets really fucking hilarious: Charles and Max fly home from Austria on the same flight. On this flight, where Max is probably sitting in Charles' direct line of sight, Charles goes to Max's Instagram and unfollows him. Probably glaring at Max the entire fucking time. Because he's a fully grown adult man capable of making reasonable, mature decisions when things don't go his way. Clearly. And Max, upon noticing this (or his team noticing it), remembers that he is also a fully grown adult man capable of making reasonable, mature decisions, and responds by unfollowing Charles back. Obviously.
It has been four years and our boys have clearly moved past the events of Austria 2019, but the Great Unfollowing has remained. Has it become an inside joke between them, which is why they're still not following each other after all these years? Probably, if Charles threatening to unfollow Matt from P1 with Matt & Tommy during a Ferrari challenge (and fucking following through on the threat, too) is anything to go by. Does it still make me cackle every time I think about it? Abso-fucking-lutely.

Kelly Piquet Master Timeline - Part 17 (Even Kelly's nonsense is bigger in Texas)
Tumblr media
(Masterlist)
(I am so so sorry I couldn't think of another opening photo)
Hey guys, it's Flowergothic. Welcome to the first add-on to #kellytimeline! This is just a quick recap of the United States Grand Prix (as well as the shirt controversy that popped up today, including context on why some people are taking issue to it).
I'm gonna spend the rest of today making more of those mini-videos promoting the timeline, but focusing on the Piquet family in general. They'll drop the days leading up to the Brazilian GP.
Let's go!
As always, you can find the full timeline here.
--------------
2024
October 18-20, 2024: The 2024 United States Grand Prix. Max achieves poll position and wins the Saturday sprint race, his first victory since Austria. (Archive)
Kelly, Nelson Jr, and Nelson Jr’s wife accompany Max to the sprint race. Kelly posts several stories on Instagram celebrating Max’s victory, including a video of them kissing. The video is taken by Nelson Jr’s wife, and is criticized for looking staged and awkward.
A couple hours later, Kelly posts an ad video to her Instagram to promote the skincare company Clarins. Some comments point out how she intentionally posted the ad after Max’s victory for maximum engagement. Those comments disappear shortly afterwards. (Archive)
Max would finish the main race in third place. Kelly makes no posts about it and instead makes another post advertising Clarins. (Archive)
Coincidentally, Nara Smith and her husband are invited to this race as VIP guests. But, they visit and sit with the Aston Martin Aramco F1 team. Nara still doesn’t follow anything F1-related on her social media.
October 22, 2024: Nara Smith makes an Instagram post about her time at the USGP. Kelly likes the post and makes a reply, implying they met in person. Nara does not like or reply to Kelly’s comment, despite liking and commenting on other replies.
October 24, 2024: Kelly posts a recap of her time in Austin during the USGP. While it is mostly reuploads from her Instagram stories, it includes three angles of the kiss she and Max shared after the Saturday sprint race. People who question why in the comments, even jokingly, are met with hostility by Kelly fans. (Archive)
October 25, 2024: Kelly is revealed to be in Miami with multiple people, including her daughter. Her daughter’s school would have started fall break on or around October 23rd, just two days before. This leads to speculation that Kelly secretly brought her child to the states with her. (Archive)
October 28, 2024: Max releases exclusive merch ahead of the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix. This is not without controversy, as some claim the colors used are the same colors associated with Bolsonaro (the justifiably controversial former president of Brazil several Piquet family members support, including Kelly). Others come to his defense, noting the colors are also on the Brazilian flag. (Archive 1, 2, 3)
The merchandise seems to be based off the iconic Brazilian football jersey, which has been tied (at least to an extent) to Bolsonaro and his campaign since he got elected in 2018. More information on the controversies surrounding it can be found here and here. (Archive 1, 2)

[GP3 & F2 LIVE]
-George mentioned he loves Montoya for his aggressiveness (also said he admires Verstappen for the same reason and his overtaking, in another interview as well), Hamilton for his strength in pace. But overall, he picks Schumacher as his all time favorite. He said it's a difficult pick!
-Because George has only previously driven the night race thrice (Bahrain, AD quali, AD race), he actually makes a gamble of undercutting De Vries during AD18 to try and take the lead back. No one had any clear idea of how long the tyres were going to last and he managed it! He compromised a bit by managing the tyres when he could've pulled a +10s gap but with the risk of the tyres being gone due to how the Abu Dhabi circuit is
-The press commented on how George had a really good attitude and they're excited to see how he goes in the future
-George names Maggots and Becketts (Silverstone) as his favorite corner. But also mentions Parabolica (Monza) as one of the greatest ones.
-George Russell said he won't participate in the 2017 Macau GP because he'd have to seal his championship win before the final in Abu Dhabi and he's not sure if he can do that. Later, He did win it before Abu Dhabi and had the chance to participate in the 2017 Macau GP but by Jerez, he was sick with ear infection and even then, he had to drive while being sick in Jerez. So, no Macau GP 2.0 in the end for him
-George's favorite race track in the GP3 calendar is Silverstone because that's where he got his first F1 test and it's his home race but his favorite race track in the world is Macau because it's one of a kind street circuit, "nothing can ever come close to it"
-F2 Era George drives a Mercedes A200. He also would like to drive Senna to Mansell, early 90s Williams F1 car if he had the chance!
-On other interviews, George mentioned liking Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United but he didn't in this specific interview. George mentions football player Ronaldinho as his favorite player in the past though!
-George asked for the press to include Alex Albon in the championship photoshoot of him and Lando at Sochi 2018. He also kept reminding the press of Alex's achievement throughout the 2018 F2 season and also talks about his rivalry/friendship with Alex.
-George's lows on F2 season was Baku FR, when Nyck De Vries locked up and crashed to George who was in the lead, causing George to drop down to P12. Although everyone backs him, he felt like he could do something or compromise a bit to minimize the accident that day. While his overall lows is the Monaco GP where he had engine failure during the practice, qualifies P16 and +1s from pole, and DNF-ed in both races. He also mentions Baku SR as his memorable race as he managed to fight to P1 from his initial P12 starting position.
-Other than not participating again at Macau GP, George also opted out from Race of Champions because he didn't want to risk sustaining any serious injury that might have an impact on his upcoming racing schedules.
-George mentions about being interested in oval track racing after watching Fernando Alonso in Indy500 and that he'll be interested to try that out in the future
-George did not play F1 2016 or other racing related games due to his busy schedule with being the sim driver. He mentions he plays the "upgraded version" of it with the Mercedes F1 Simulator instead.
-A fan asked about how the sim works had helped him in GP3 races and George said the sim works did not help him much for race prep as the set up for the simulator is for an F1 car while he drives a GP3 cars but it gives him more laps and experience under his belt on different circuits.
-The celebratory chocolate brownie that he ate after Austria 2017 (the one where he took a pic with Valtteri) did not taste that good. He flew back with the Mercedes team and they offered everyone champagne or chocolate brownies. George had to opt for the brownies.
-George was asked by a fan about his opinion on what Liberty Media is doing in F1 😭😭 He responds to it maturely with saying that Liberty Media aims to have more publicity for the Formula One by having more coverage of the sport and he respects that they are trying to do so as well with the feeder series. He said he looks forward to what they'll do in the future.
-Another fan asked him about the Mercedes powertrain plan (as well as Mercedes' GT3 powertrain plans 😭😭). Again, he answers it maturely by saying the fan should ask Mercedes that as George didn't have much knowledge about it.

FACTS AND STATS: Leclerc gives Ferrari their 800th Formula 1 podium
With another victory and fastest lap, world champion Max Verstappen added to his tally of incredible achievements in Austria. But he wasn’t the only one hitting some notable milestones, with Ferrari reaching a particularly impressive F1 landmark. Here’s those and more fascinating figures from Spielberg… • Red Bull today scored their 10th consecutive win, the second-longest streak in history behind McLaren’s 11 in a row in 1988. • Verstappen led the first 24 laps today, meaning his consecutive streak unofficially ended at 248 laps – third on the all-time list behind Ayrton Senna and Alberto Ascari. • With the fastest lap, Verstappen scored a seventh career hat-trick (win/pole/fastest lap), tying Senna and Ascari. RACE REPORT: Verstappen beats Leclerc for victory in Austria to make it five wins in a row • This was Verstappen’s fifth win at the Red Bull Ring, more than he’s taken at any other track in his F1 career. • It was also Verstappen's eighth podium finish at the Red Bull Ring – his best at any F1 venue (breaking his tie with Barcelona). • Verstappen's 42nd career win surpasses Senna for fifth on the all-time list. • Verstappen's 42nd win means that he has now taken exactly half of all his career wins in the last 14 months (from Imola 2022 onwards). • With today's win, Verstappen has won as many races in last 14 months (21) as Kimi Raikkonen scored in 19 seasons of F1. A win at Silverstone will see Red Bull match McLaren's record of 11 consecutive victories • Charles Leclerc’s P2 was Ferrari's best result of the 2023 season. • Leclerc scored his fourth podium finish at the Red Bull Ring, more than at any other circuit. • It was Ferrari’s 800th podium finish in F1. • With Sergio Perez in P3, both Red Bulls finished on the podium at the Red Bull Ring for the first time in a Grand Prix (they were one-three in yesterday's Sprint). • It was Perez’s first podium finish at the Red Bull Ring on his 12th visit. DRIVER OF THE DAY: Superb fifth place in Austria earns Norris your vote • Carlos Sainz’s P4 for Ferrari was his best-ever finish at the Red Bull Ring. • It was only Sainz’s second top-four finish of the season (he was also fourth in Monaco). • Lando Norris’s P5 was McLaren's first top-five finish of 2023. • Norris has finished in the top five in five of his last six visits to the Red Bull Ring. Pierre Gasly is on a points-scoring roll for Alpine • Fernando Alonso’s P6 for Aston Martin was his best result at the Red Bull Ring since 2014. • Lewis Hamilton’s P7 for Mercedes was his worst-ever result at the Red Bull Ring in a race that he finished (he retired from the 2018 race). • His Mercedes team mate George Russell (P8) has been beaten by Hamilton at the last four Grands Prix. READ MORE: Formula 1 to continue to race in Austria until 2030 under new long-term agreement • With Pierre Gasly in P9, Alpine scored for the fifth consecutive GP (he also scored in yesterday's Sprint). • Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll took P10, meaning he finished six places lower in the GP than in yesterday's Sprint. • With his retirement in the Haas, Nico Hulkenberg’s 22-race finishing streak ended today. via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com

** Sprint Race on 2023 Birthday, retired
~ qualified P19 on birthday
So there’s somewhat of a correlation between a driver having a race on their birthday, whether that be a GP or a sprint race and DNFing but nothing concrete.
Of the 16 occasions where a driver has raced on their birthday, there’s been 6.5 DNFs (40%). For comparison 20% of Magnussen’s F1 starts have ended in DNF (also Alonso’s)
I’m definitely going to look into the theory that drivers seemingly have bad results/retirements on their birthdays (because I feel like it’s happened a bunch)

Ferrari learned from their mistakes in Spielberg and are constantly updating Seb about other drivers being on their fast laps when he isn't
