A Shattered Heart
Master List
Jensen x Reader (girlfriend)
Warnings: Lots and lots of Angst, language, Jensen being a dick (sorry)
A/N: Just kinda in my head and feelings today…This story just popped in my head. Not sure if it’s going to be a one shot or a few chapters. I’ll play it by ear. I had to get this out before I could finish any of my other stories. 🫤 This is a work of fiction and does not depict real life. All work is my own and absolutely no disrespect to Jensen or his family. No idea why my head is filled with this story…..it’s brutal. I wrote it fast-like 30 minutes, and didn’t do a great job editing. Please overlook any errors.
Minors DNI 18+
The soft glow of the lamp cast long, dancing shadows across the room. Jensen and you had been dating for a few months now, and while there were moments of pure bliss, the weight of his recent divorce often hung heavy in the air. His ex-wife had been particularly cruel during the proceedings, leaving him emotionally scarred.
You’d tried to be there for him, but he would often push you away to deal with things himself. He tried to keep things civil between him and Danneel, for the sake of the kids, but it proved to be a daunting task at times.
After months of back and forth, they finally arrived at a custody agreement. He would get the kids when he wasn’t filming, and for some holidays. She kept the house in Connecticut and he got the one in Austin. Danneel tried to get both, but the judge decided she had gotten enough from him. Between child support, alimony, half the brewery and half the production company, she was practically set for life.
You had absolutely no problem with the child support, but you felt it was ridiculous she received alimony too. Jensen didn’t put up a fight about that. You respected him so much, the only thing he did fight for was his children.
After the divorce was final, you moved in with him, into his Austin home. He told you to make any changes you wanted, because as he put it, “It’s your home too.” So you made some changes here and there, but keeping all of the things that were Jensen and of course his children.
Danneel barely spoke to you, and would often refer to you as a homewrecker, trash, or some other derogatory term she could think of. It pissed Jensen off, because the two of you met after they split up, and you didn’t move in until after the divorce was final.
You tried to pretend it didn’t bother you, but it really did. You fell in love with Jensen when you saw him at a convention, but you didn’t pursue him until after you heard they had split. Well, you really didn’t pursue him, you two just hit it off and got to talking. You both flirted, alcohol was free flowing, and then you kissed. That was it. Days later, after the convention ended, Jensen reached out to you on social media. You thought it was a joke until he sent you a picture and then video called you. After that you were completely smitten by him.
So now here you were months later, living with him and falling deeper in love with him. You hoped he felt the same way about you. The only obstacle was his filming schedule. It was something you weren’t used to yet, and sometimes it caused tension between the two of you.
As Jensen’s marriage started to fall apart he purposely spent more time away from home. He took guest starring roles, did more conventions, and even started some new projects. It became a habit that was hard for him to break.
So now even though your relationship was good, he had commitments he had already made. It’s been an adjustment to say the least. Jensen was off filming again, and you were left alone, again. Your heart ached for him, your arms ached for him. The longer he was gone the more in your head you would get, and that was never a good thing.
After a month-long shooting schedule, Jensen returned home looking haggard and exhausted. you could see the toll it had taken on him. The two of you had spent the evening cuddling on the couch, with you trying to soothe his weary soul. You made his favorite dinner, steak and potatoes, and even baked him a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.
“Thanks sweetheart for dinner and dessert. You didn’t have to go all out for me.” He placed a kiss on your forehead. “Yes I did, you’ve been gone for too long and I wanted to show you how much I missed you. Besides, who can say no to chocolate cake?” You winked at him. The two of you spent the rest of the night snuggled together under the blanket and talking while the tv played softly in the background.
He told you about the latest project he was on, how he’d been called back to guest star in Tracker again. You could see his excitement, but part of you felt a pang of sadness, because that meant more time away from you. You bit your lip to prevent the tears from flowing. You were so proud of him and all his projects, but part of you wanted to be selfish and have him to yourself for a little bit.
Just as you were about to settle in for the night, his phone rang. It was Danneel. You could hear the anger in her voice as she berated him about his absence and how the alimony check was 2 days late. “Fuck, Danneel, it was only 2 damn days. You act like it’s the end of the world. Maybe if you got off your ass and worked it wouldn’t be that big of a deal! I was in Canada and the mail takes longer. Yes, it has to be a check. I want a paper trail to prove I paid it! Bullshit! You would throw me under the bus if you could. You’re just waiting to screw me over!” He ran his hands through his hair in frustration. You sat in silence as you watched the scene unfold in front of you. “No! I already told you I’ll be filming. I can’t keep the kids for spring break. That’s not fair, Danneel. Fine! Do whatever the fuck you want!” He hung up with a growl.
You stepped closer to him and touched his arm, trying to offer some comfort. He shrugged you off, “Not now, Y/N! Fuck!” You flinched at his anger and his words. He’d never spoken to you like that before. It took you by surprise and it hurt. “I’m sorry, Jensen. I was just trying to help.” Your voice came out softer and smaller than you’d ever heard. “Well don’t! You’re not a part of this, you can’t help! Unless you know how I can continue to work and see my kids, while supporting them, my ex and you!” You gasped at his words. “What?! You don’t support me? I work, I make my own money.”
Jensen scoffed, “Yeah right. Your little paycheck, honey I make that in a fucking day!” Tears filled your eyes and you let out an audible sob. Jensen turned and looked at you as you cried. His eyes were full of rage, his jaw tight with anger. You had no idea why he was taking his anger out on you.
He ran his hands through his hair and let out a frustrated growl. “Fuck this shit! I can’t handle my bitch ex wife and now you crying like you are. I’m going out!” He grabbed his jacket and keys and left.
As he stormed out of the house, you crumbled onto the floor, sobbing uncontrollably. His words, his anger playing over and over in your head like a record. Each harsh word, like a punch to the chest. You felt incredibly hurt, so betrayed, and so utterly alone.
You eventually moved off the floor, when the tears refused to fall anymore. Exhaustion overtaking your body, your head pounding from the crying. Hours passed as you laid on the couch, curled in a ball. You checked your phone, hoping for a text or a call from Jensen, but nothing. As the hours ticked on your heart broke more.
Around 4 am you were startled awake by the sound of the front door opening. Jensen came in, drunk. You could smell the whiskey on him. You sat up and looked at him, “Jensen, do you have any idea what time it is?” You asked softly.
“Nope, don’t care either. Why are you still here? I figured you’d be gone by now.” Jensen asked through slurred speech. You bit your lip and swallowed hard, “You don’t mean that Jensen.”
You stood up and walked over to him. He stepped closer to you, saw your red, puffy eyes, “Yes I do, darlin’. I thought I made it clear I don’t want you here anymore. It’s only complicating things with my kids.”
You scoffed as the pain and hurt shot through your body, “Okay, I’ll leave. Just know you’re the one who asked for me to leave, Jensen. I love you.” You walked upstairs without looking back at him. The tears were flowing freely now. Your heart was shattered. You’d given him everything, including your heart, and he just threw it all away.
Walking into your shared bedroom, you looked around at the life you two had created. You grabbed a suitcase and started filling it up with things. You glanced at Jensen’s side of the bed and saw the picture Chris took of the two of you at the convention you met him at. You saw the love in his eyes and in yours.
As you left the bedroom you walked back downstairs and found Jensen sitting on the couch. He glanced up at you and saw the suitcase in your hand. You walked over to the kitchen counter, took your key off the ring and set it down.
Before you walked out the door, you turned around and locked eyes with Jensen. “I love you Jensen, please don’t forget that. I’m sorry I wasn’t good enough for you.” You swear his breath hitched at your words, but you turned so quickly you weren’t sure.
You put your suitcase in your car and climbed in. Putting the car in drive you pulled out of the driveway, looking in the rearview mirror at the life you were now left to mourn.

We discussed in the last episode how when Chad and I were shooting the last episode, that's when they announced that the show was coming back. But they had not offered either of us contracts. And it was basically them being like, we're good, you can leave. And we were just like, Ugh. Well alright, cool story. So then, well I finished filming and I was like, you know what I'm gonna do in this situation? I'm gonna go back home to Sterling Park and I'm probably gonna go kiss some dudes from high school and have a couple beers and then I'm gonna figure out a plan. And so remember we had our Southern Gothic productions, the production company that I started down there. And you had just made a movie with Nick Austin and I, you know, like we were, we were doing fun stuff, but I had before social media, a production webpage. Remember when we had like vlogs? The world of the vlog. So I was like, I'm gonna just, I'm gonna post a vlog 'cause news has been out that the show's getting picked up, but I'm not. So I posted a video that it, you know, has like so many views on the internet at this point where I was like, I have no control over the creative and I'm really sad. I love Peyton. I'm not coming back but still watch the show. It was a big deal. And it dispelled those rumors of someone in, someone had gone to the press and put out all these rumors that I wasn't coming back because I was demanding lots of money and being difficult when in reality I was willing to take less money so that all the other actors could get favored nations and get paid more. And so I was butt hurt about that. So I put out this video and then I get this script and I'm like, what? Okay, fine. I'm gone. Like, what more do you want from me? I, so James is directing and he's you now 22, maybe 23 years old. If we were 26 when this happened. How much younger is James? Alright, so he is 22 and he's doing a beautiful job and I see how important it's to him and how much we need to keep the drama at bay. Like we just need to show up and do our jobs. And so Chad comes and he's ready to cry and I show up and I've gotta cry in every fucking scene... -Hilarie

Sunday Confessions:
1. I wonder if Sydney n her man r actually going to get married. I dnt care for her bt feel for her somewhat cuz i think she met him when she was like 18/19.. and they have a 13 yr age gap 💀 they also work together, he does smthn regarding her production company so, their very attached. If he treats her well then good for her
2. I really dnt get showcasing your kid as much as DDG do. Hes a beautiful boy bt the amound of weirdos online... culdnt b me personally, i find it dangerous and the kid didnt ask to get showcased. I remember this tweet of Halle complaining about ppl speaking on her career/son and telling folks to leave her alone. I dnt think folks shuld tell her how to live her life and in no way is it ok to comment on a baby negatively, bt then at the same time yr bf/baby daddy is literally tweeting, livestreaming and making youtube videos that showcase yr son☠️ make it make sense.
3. Ik folks like to clown John David bt imo he really aint that bad of a actor, he just isnt his dad lol i found him to b fine in everything ive seen him in. I think his sister, Olivia Washington is a beyter actor bt i guess nepotism dsnt apply if your a brown/dark skinned woman 😔
4. Nt deuxmoi havimg the Kaia/Austin rumor and JE/Olivia vacation pics side by side lol the 4 of them stay connected lmaoo
https://www.instagram.com/deuxmoi/?hl=en
5. I wuldnt b shocked if Ayo/Jeremy had smthn down the line lol mayb they really r just good friends bt that video if him rubbing her back/touching her braids at that baseball gamr awhile back was suspicious. Mayb their just really touchy tho lol
1. Giiiiirrrrrl....I don't think so. 👀 Anytime I've seen super long engagements like this, they almost NEVER actually make it down the aisle, and the couple actually ends up breaking up. You can't be THAT busy to just get married lol.
2. I haven't been seeing what Duck Duck Goose has been posting on his social media tbh, but you all already know how I feel about him. 😒 Halle did not procreate with a man on her level (if you ask me), but hey, it's her life, not mine! 🤷🏾♀️ As long as she's happy, then oh well! 😅🤐
3. Rofl 🤣 Hey girl, it's okay if you've always loved JDW's acting. Art is subjective anyway lol. 🤷🏾♀️ I thought he was horrible in "TENET". Everyone (including the extras and side characters were all out-acting him, and he actually has an Oscar-winning ACTOR for a father! 😩🥴😭 I didn't think he was that bad in "Blackkklansman". JDW did some theater more recently, so he's probably improved quite a bit! I will always give someone another chance or two lol. 🤭
4. 🤭🤣😅
5. You know what, I used to kinda think so too in the past, but the way she recoiled back in sheer HORROR when they asked her on the red carpet about his sexy photoshoot for some magazine, I said to myself, "Errrmmmm....I guess NOT!" LOL 😆 🤣 She didn't even try to play it off lol! 😅 She literally FLINCHED like it was something painful to even think of him in that way! Rofl 🤣 I actually posted her reaction on my blog! 😅 So, from then on, I figured that she must really only view him strictly as a brother lol. I don't think there's ever been anything there girl lol. Her gut-level, instant reaction told me everything I needed to know rofl 🤣

Year-End Poll #34: 1983
[Image description: a collage of photos of the 10 musicians and musical groups featured in this poll. In order from left to right, top to bottom: The Police, Michael Jackson, Irene Cara, Men at Work, Michael Jackson, Bonnie Tyler, Hall & Oates, Patti Austin and James Ingram, Michael Sembello, Eurythmics. End description]
More information about this blog here
Today's poll includes multiple songs off the soundtrack for the movie, Flashdance. We've seen songs from soundtracks featured on these polls, with You Light Up My Life and Evergreen coming to mind (plus songs from actual musicals). But instead of just diegetic ballads and showtunes, now we're seeing more songs marketing themselves around their connection to the films they were written for. As music videos are being shot more like movies and movies are being shot more like music videos, the meeting of these two worlds makes sense. Especially when music videos start to include actual clips from the movies, MTV was the place to get a wide audience for your music.
But not everyone could see the benefits right away. While MTV kicked off with a bang, their initial video rotation infamously featured no Black acts. The network's explanation was to insist that the exclusion wasn't based on race, but rather MTV's status as a "rock station".
1983 also marks the 25th anniversary of Motown Records and a television special (Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever) was broadcasted to mark the occasion. While the night is marked by more legends than I can list off, the notable performance for this blurb was Michael Jackson. After performing with the Jackson 5 for the first time since the 70's, Michael Jackson performed his new solo hit, Billie Jean. This number marks the public debut of the moonwalk, the musician's signature dance move that arguably cemented his status as a pop culture icon.
In hindsight, it feels ludicrous that an artist like Michael Jackson was initially unable to get on MTV. Fortunately, people at the time thought it was ludicrous as well. Both Rick James and David Bowie called out the network years before (with James being especially vocal in critiquing MTV for its exclusion of Black artists). But allegedly, Michael Jackson's record company found a way to get Billie Jean on the channel. To quote Walter Yetnikoff, the president of CBS Records at the time:
“I said to MTV, ‘I’m pulling everything we have off the air, all our product. I’m not going to give you any more videos. And I’m going to go public and fucking tell them about the fact you don’t want to play music by a black guy.’” (x)
Whether in response to Yetnikoff or not, Billie Jean aired on MTV March 10th, 1983, making it the first music video by a Black artist to be featured in heavy rotation on the channel. Later this year, the cinematic possibilities of the music video would be pushed further with the 13 minute video for Thriller. Michael was already a star without the push from MTV, and with how popular his videos were, it could be argued that MTV needed Michael as much if not more than he needed them. But while MTV's problems with race and representation were far from over, this moment helped pave the way for many other Black artists who will become iconic figures on the channel.

timmy said in the recent snack wars video that something doesnt agree w his system
what abt a sickfic WITHOUT the other end but of him and austin after the thing
Sure thing Anon
Timothee’s stomach was killing him. The few spicy foods he had surely were the culprit. He had eaten a Twinkie once the video was over to try to settle his stomach. Thinking it would have helped.
It didn’t
By the time Timothee and Austin get back to the hotel. Timothee’s stomach hurts even worse.
"I barely ate the spicy stuff and my stomach hurts like hell," Timothee whined once they reached their room. Timothee was grateful he wouldn't be alone when he felt so miserable.
Austin frowned "You only had like one hot Cheeto? How is it possible that one hot Cheeto could cause you to feel so sick?" Austin asked worriedly.
Timothee groaned "I don't think the other snacks helped. I think it made it worse."
Austin helped Timothee into the bathroom where Timothee kneeled in front of the open toilet bowl. He wrapped his arms around his stomach. He could feel his stomach gurgling and bubbling under his arms. Austin lightly rubbed his back.
Timothee tried to focus on his breathing and not on the fact that he might be on the verge of puking.
“Want me to get your dad?” Austin asked
Timothee shook his head and burped. “I’ll be alright.” He said softly.
Austin knew he wasn’t ok and stayed by his side as Timothee took deep shaking breaths. Timothee groaned and gagged harshly. Oh how he hated the feeling of being sick.
“Tim let it happen. You’ll feel better.” Austin said concerned as Timothee kept gagging but bringing nothing up.
Timothee coughed and gagged harshly. His stomach swirling and aching. Finally he gagged and proceeded to bring up the food that had been causing his stomach to hurt so badly. It hurt worse coming up.
Timothee whined and gagged again. This one wasn’t as productive as the harsher one before it.
Austin grabbed a bit of toilet paper to wipe his mouth.
Timothee coughed slowly he moved his arms away from his stomach so he could stand up.
Austin tossed the toilet paper into the trash,
Austin grabbed a small cup and filled it with water to give to Timothee.
Timothee took it as he leaned against the sink. He rinsed out his mouth and sighed heavily and ran a hand through his hair.
“I look like a wreck.” Timothee said as he looked at himself in the mirror.
“You look exhausted let’s have you get into bed.” Austin told him.
Timothee nodded and let Austin help him get into bed.
Austin grabbed a towel and the hotel room trash can to set up next to Timothee’s bed.
“Can you keep me company?” Timothee asked as he got comfy under the blankets.
Austin nodded “sure thing. Just get some rest.”
After a few days of rest Timothee felt much better.
Here you are Anonymous! Sorry it’s so short 😅

Week in Review
October 23rd-29th
Welcome to Fragile Practice, where I attempt to make something of value out of stuff I have to read.
My future plan is to do longer-form original pieces on interesting topics or trends. For now, I'm going to make the weekly reviews habitual and see if I have any time left.
Technology
OpenAI forms team to study ‘catastrophic’ AI risks, including nuclear threats - Tech Crunch; Kyle Wiggers
OpenAI launched a new research team called AI Safety and Security to investigate the potential harms of artificial intelligence focused on AI alignment, AI robustness, AI governance, and AI ethics.
Note: Same energy as “cigarette company funds medical research into smoking risks”.
Artists Allege Meta’s AI Data Deletion Request Process Is a ‘Fake PR Stunt’ - Wired; Kate Knibbs
Artists who participated in Meta’s Artificial Intelligence Artist Residency Program accused the company of failing to honor their data deletion requests and claim that Meta used their personal data to train its AI models without their consent.
Note: Someday we will stop being surprised that corporate activities without obvious profit motive are all fake PR stunts.
GM and Honda ditch plan to build cheaper electric vehicles - The Verge; Andrew J. Hawkins
General Motors and Honda cancel their joint venture to develop and produce cheaper electric vehicles for the US market, citing the chip shortage, rising costs of battery materials, and the changing market conditions.
Note: What are the odds this isn’t related to the 7 billion dollars the US government announced to create hydrogen hubs.
'AI divide' across the US leaves economists concerned - The Register; Thomas Claburn
A new study by economists from Harvard University and MIT reveals a significant gap in AI adoption and innovation across different regions in the US.
The study finds that AI usage is highest in California's Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area, but was also noted in Nashville, San Antonio, Las Vegas, New Orleans, San Diego, and Tampa, as well as Riverside, Louisville, Columbus, Austin, and Atlanta.
Nvidia to Challenge Intel With Arm-Based Processors for PCs - Bloomberg; Ian King
Nvidia is using Arm technology to develop CPUs that would challenge Intel processors in PCs, and which could go on sale as soon as 2025.
Note: I am far from an NVIDIA fan, but I’m stoked for any amount of new competition in the CPU space.
New tool lets artists fight AI image bots by hiding corrupt data in plain sight - Engadget; Sarah Fielding
A team at the University of Chicago created Nightshade, a tool that lets artists fight AI image bots by adding undetectable pixels into an image that can alter how a machine-learning model produces content and what that finished product looks like.
Nightshade is intended to protect artists work and has been tested on both Stable Diffusion and an in-house AI built by the researchers.
IBM's NorthPole chip runs AI-based image recognition 22 times faster than current chips - Tech Xplore; Bob Yirka
NorthPole combines the processing module and the data it uses in a two-dimensional array of memory blocks and interconnected CPUs, and is reportedly inspired by the human brain.
NorthPole can currently only run specialized AI processes and not training processes or large language models, but the researchers plan to test connecting multiple chips together to overcome this limitation.
Apple’s $130 Thunderbolt 4 cable could be worth it, as seen in X-ray CT scans - Ars Technica; Kevin Purdy
Note: These scans are super cool. And make me feel somewhat better about insisting on quality cables. A+.
The Shifting Web
On-by-default video calls come to X, disable to retain your sanity - The Register; Brandon Vigliarolo
Video and audio calling is limited to anyone you follow or who is in your address book, if you granted X permission to comb through it.
Calling other users also requires that they’ve sent at least one direct message to you before.
Only premium users can place calls, but everyone can receive them.
Google Search Boss Says Company Invests to Avoid Becoming ‘Roadkill’ - The New York Times; Nico Grant
Google’s senior vice president overseeing search said that he sees a world of threats that could humble his company at any moment.
Google Maps is getting new AI-powered search updates, an enhanced navigation interface and more - Tech Crunch; Aisha Malik
Note: These AI recommender systems are going to be incredibly valuable advertising space. It is interesting that Apple decided to compete with Google in maps but not in basic search, but has so far not placed ads in the search results.
Reddit finally takes its API war where it belongs: to AI companies - Ars Technica; Scharon Harding
Reddit met with generative AI companies to negotiate a deal for being paid for its data, and may block crawlers if no deal is made soon.
Note: Google searches for info on Reddit often seem more effective than searching Reddit itself. If they are unable to make a deal, and Reddit follows through, it will be a legitimate loss for discoverability but also an incredibly interesting experiment to see what Reddit is like without Google.
Bandcamp’s Entire Union Bargaining Team Was Laid Off - 404 Media; Emanuel Maiberg
Bandcamp’s new owner (Songtradr) offered jobs to just half of existing employees, with cuts disproportionately hitting union leaders. Every member of the union’s eight-person bargaining team was laid off, and 40 of the union's 67 members lost their jobs.
Songtradr spokesperson Lindsay Nahmiache claimed that the firm didn’t have access to union membership information.
Note: This just sucks. Bandcamp is rad, and it’s hard to imagine it continuing to be rad after this. I wonder if Epic had ideas for BC that didn’t work out.
Surveillance & Digital Privacy
Mozilla Launches Annual Digital Privacy 'Creep-o-Meter'. This Year's Status: 'Very Creepy' - Slashdot
Mozilla gave the current state of digital privacy a 75.6/100, with 100 being the creepiest.
They measured security features, data collection, and data sharing practices of over 500 gadgets, apps, and cars to come up with their score.
Every car Mozilla tested failed to meet their privacy and security standards.
Note: It would be great if even one auto brand would take privacy seriously.
EPIC Testifies in Support of Massachusetts Data Privacy and Protection Act -Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC)
Massachusetts version of ADPPA.
Note: While it may warm my dead heart to see any online privacy protections in law, scrambling to do so in response to generative AI is unlikely to protect Americans in any meaningful way from the surveillance driven form of capitalism we’ve all been living under for decades.
Complex Spy Platform StripedFly Bites 1M Victims - Dark Reading
StripedFly is a complex platform disguised as a cryptominer and evaded detection for six years by using a custom version of EternalBlue exploit, a built-in Tor network tunnel, and trusted services like GitLab, GitHub, and Bitbucket to communicate with C2 servers and update its functionality.
iPhones have been exposing your unique MAC despite Apple's promises otherwise - Ars Technica
A privacy feature which claimed to hide the Wi-Fi MAC address of iOS devices when joining a network was broken since iOS 14, and was finally patched in 17.1, released on Wednesday.
Note: I imagine this bug was reported a while ago, but wasn’t publically reported until the fix was released as a term of apple’s bug bounty program.
What the !#@% is a Passkey? - Electronic Frontier Foundation
Note: I welcome our passkey overlords.

FLASH REPORT: Independent Texan Production Company and Animation 'Rooster Teeth' permanently closes down for bankruptcy after 2 decades, RWBY's future in Limbo as 'DillonGoo Studios' steps in
FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- Warner Bros.-Discovery (WBD) sadly announces to close down the established independent animation studio 'Rooster Teeth' after two (2) decades of digital operation. This moves might be a bitter pill for many to swallow that marks the end of an era for the studio behind a beloved web series 'RWBY'.
Entertainment news outlet ‘Deadline’ revealed that the Texan animation studio shuts its doors, but the popular audio-only podcast known as the ‘Rooster Teeth Podcast’ (RTP) won't be impacted there too soon.
The unprecedented closure for online bankruptcy of 'Rooster Teeth' leaves fans of RWBY in a state of much uncertainty, as the fate of the web streaming series hangs in the balance, following after the old video-sharing platform YouTube in several volumes. However, a glimmer of hope emerges as the torch passed on to a different independent studio, DillonGoo Studios, based in Austin, Texas, United States of America (U.S.A.).
'DillonGoo Studios', led by its Chief Executive Officer, independent self-animator and founder named 'Dillon W. Gu', has rapidly emerged as a prominent figure in the animation community. With strong connections to the RWBY fandom, the studio has garnered significant attention. The potential partnership production between 'DillonGoo Studios' and 'RWBY' opens exciting prospects for the series' future to a new heights. With 'Mr. Gu' stepping into the role as a new show creator, apart from the late original series creator (Monty Oum), fans eagerly anticipate the direction that Volume 10, potentially its final season as 'volumes' may take under a new leadership.
People are speculating about 'Rooster Teeth' (RT) considers to be shutting down, filing for bankruptcy, and selling RWBY to acquire a new IP (intellectual property) to DillonGoo Studios. Some have mentioned that RT encountered financial difficulties and a decrease in the appeal of their animations, possibly influenced by controversial anti-LGBT sentiments, extremist criticism, fouling behavior on social media, and disruptions caused by boycotts against CRWBY members, voice actors and fictional personalities, resulting to delay and secure a new volume. But now, with 'DillonGoo Studios' stepping in, there's hope for the future of the web-streaming series.
If DillonGoo Studios takes the helm for Volume 10 of RWBY and securing a partnership with streaming networks like Crunchyroll or somewhat others (which is our internet media affiliate for 'OneNETtv Channel'), it could signify a revitalization for the beloved franchise. The legal greenlighting of Volume 10 under the banner of DillonGoo Studios opens up avenues for a fresh approach to storytelling, while retaining the essence and spirit of the series that has captivated audiences worldwide.
As RWBY-nian fans eagerly await the future of the show, the partnership between DillonGoo Studios and a streaming platform holds the promise of a bright new chapter for the iconic series. With 'Dillon Gu' at the helm, RWBY may embark on a journey filled with innovation, creativity, and a renewed sense of purpose, ensuring its enduring legacy in the annals of animation history.

Introduction Pilot: Austin Cody
Hello stranger, my name is Austin Cody and you probably wondering who I am, or not, so let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a current senior in my last class before I graduate in the winter. I will graduate with an IT degree specializing in IT and multimedia work. Handling software/hardware issues, while also using my multimedia work to create videos and image work on the side. I have spent the last few years growing my knowledge in both of these fields working internships for both Central's and Altair Engineering's programs. I have done everything from computer repair, troubleshooting, and procurement in the IT field. These have and will continue to benefit me as I dive deeper into the respective field of IT. My goal for this field is to learn. Learn every part and problem that can come from technology. The information is what inspires me. In turn, I'm hoping this blog can contribute to that, or just be a place everyone can dump information on tech and learn from one another.
One brand that I think has done exceptionally well with their use of social media is ViceGolf. VICE Golf – USA Vice is a golf company that specializes in creating premium golf balls and accessories. Seems like every day I scroll Instagram or another social media and come across their limited-edition line up. Right now, it is the Golferia pizza lineup featuring logo balls and other apparel with the classic Italian pizza theme. It always makes me hungry, and I always find myself browsing the page and throwing everything in my cart before clicking off the site. Their ads and social media work is flashy and catches a consumer's eyes after doom scrolling. They know how to grab the attention of users on each platform and funnel them into their own services and products. It never feels like your being sold something or scammed. It is all in the name of fun and having the best time, something I will always get behind.
Until the future,
Austin

Kevin Kolde.
Kevin Kolde has an incredible history in the cartoon business. In fact, he’s changed cartoons on television and streaming forever. But it’s only been in the last few years he’s stepped out of the shadows with his triumphant production of Castlevania on Netflix. He started several years before at Frederator Studios, but hey, I’m proud that we’ve worked together for almost two decades.
And before I say anything else let my immense gratitude to Kevin, along with Eric Homan, for running Frederator Studios over the years when I was involved in a series of ventures that may have complemented the studio, but definitely distracted me more than they should have.
Kevin and I first met when he was the VP of sales & marketing of a toy and paint company in his home state of Michigan and he’d licensed some original characters from John Kricfalusi, creator of Ren & Stimpy. Kevin knew great talent when he saw it.
It seemed like minutes later, Kevin moved his family to Burbank and partnered with John to run SPüMCø; he proceeded to learn the cartoon business and became a world class producer. For several years I tried to recruit Kevin over to Frederator, and after overseeing a dozen projects for SPüMCø –including Ren & Stimpy’s Adult Cartoon Party for Spike– he made the move and joined Eric Homan to run our Hollywood office.
There’s too much history with our studio to go into detail, but suffice it to say that Kevin and Eric were an unbeatable combination. Sure Eric ‘developed’ and Kevin ‘produced,’ but honestly, it was a total collaboration. There aren’t many producers that have the creative insight that Kevin has, and putting it together with an almost flawless approach to the actual “making” of cartoons, Kevin managed the deals, the budgets, voice casting and acting, and animation of hundreds of episodes Frederator’s creators brought to life.
I can be a pretty lazy producer, more like Tom Sawyer in many ways. If there’s someone else to paint the fence, I’m all for it. But, working with Kevin, as hard as he managed the thousands of details, legal, creative and otherwise, I couldn’t help but becoming more and more cognizant of what actually went into our films. After all, we basically started in the business about the same time, but he was way smarter than I was.
As soon as Kevin came over to Frederator he told me about his personal creative interests, which weren’t really in the wheelhouse I’d imagined for us. I was primarily interested in, and produced, comedy cartoons. Besides cartoons, Kevin was into video games and told me that he thought games were perfectly adaptable for animation. Like many gaming aficionados his disgust of the live action adaptations of the time was total. He’d optioned a couple of properties, and excitedly told me he wanted to hold them out of our deal, especially since one of them was horror, and pretty violent, and outside the lines of Frederator.
Talent is talent and “producing” talent is as valuable of anything else. Basically, I told Kevin that if he was into it, whether or not I understood video games –I don’t– I believed in him and his judgement. If he saw clear to keeping the projects with Frederator, I was in.
Alongside of producing our first series together, Kevin zeroed in on getting Warren Ellis to write his first, fantastic feature screenplay, got James Jean to create some inspirational art, and started bringing the project to possible partners.
Crickets. To make a long story short, for almost 10 years Kevin got the door slammed in his face. But, as they say, he persisted. No one understood what an American animated horror movie could be, how it could thrive in the marketplace. Still, he persisted. Finally the pieces came together. Kevin connected with the spectacular creative team at Powerhouse Animation in Austin, Texas, who understood anime production better than anyone else in the United States. Netflix, in it’s most experimental moment at the beginning of their streaming adventure, understood Kevin’s adaptation of Warren’s screenplay into a mini-series. The rest is history.
Kevin changed his life based on his passions. He took his production skills and stepped up to becoming a world class showrunner, a rarity for a non-writer. Other people tried to take the credit, but honestly, it was all Kevin all the time. He oversaw every detail of every frame of film for Castlevania. He’s announced a second series in the Castlevania “universe, set in 1792 France against the backdrop of the French Revolution. Whew.
OK, I’ve completely skipped over Kevin’s critical role in all of our 2000′s shorts shows, and his collaboration with Eric Homan in getting Pendleton Ward’s Adventure Time/Bravest Warriors and Natasha Allegri’s Bee and PuppyCat (and sure, there are many more) made and placed. But, suffice it to say, it would have been hard to get much done at Frederator without Kevin.
What a star. As ever, how lucky am I to work with someone as wonderful as Kevin Kolde?
I’ve posted often about my mentors, the people I’ve learned the most from. And I’ve noted how often how many of them beg to differ as to whether or not I should credit them as such. So, I’ve calmed down in my titling. But still

Due to the surge of new inhabitants moving to Austin, Rekor, which provides traffic management and public safety analytics, gets a direct view of the growing traffic. To assist alleviate the highway issues, Rekor collaborates with the Texas Department of Transportation, which is working on a $7 billion initiative to remedy this.
Based in Columbia, Maryland, Rekor has been using NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX modules for edge AI and NVIDIA Metropolis for real-time video understanding in Texas, Florida, Philadelphia, Georgia, Nevada, Oklahoma, and many other U.S. locations, as well as Israel and other countries.
Metropolis is a vision AI application framework for creating smart infrastructure. Its development tools include the NVIDIA DeepStream SDK, TAO Toolkit, TensorRT, and NGC catalog pretrained models. The tiny, powerful, and energy-efficient NVIDIA Jetson accelerated computing platform is ideal for embedded and robotics applications.
Rekor’s initiatives in Texas and Philadelphia to use AI to improve road management are the most recent chapter in a long saga of traffic management and safety.
Reducing Rubbernecking, Pileups, Fatalities and Jams
Rekor Command and Rekor Discover are the two primary products that Rekor sells. Traffic control centers can quickly identify traffic incidents and areas of concern using Command, an AI-driven software. It provides real-time situational awareness and notifications to transportation authorities, enabling them to maintain safer and less congested municipal roads.
Utilizing Rekor’s edge technology, discover completely automates the collection of thorough vehicle and traffic data and offers strong traffic analytics that transform road data into quantifiable, trustworthy traffic information. Philadelphia Monitors Roads, EV Charger Needs, Pollution
The Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC), which oversees the Philadelphia Navy Yard, a famous tourist destination, has difficulties managing the roads and compiling information on new constructions. According to a $6 billion rehabilitation proposal, the Navy Yard property will bring thousands of inhabitants and 12,000 jobs with over 150 firms and 15,000 workers on 1,200 acres.
PIDC sought to raise awareness of how road closures and construction projects influence mobility and how to improve mobility during major events and projects. PIDC also sought to improve the Navy Yard’s capacity to measure the effects of speed-mitigating devices placed across dangerous sections of road and comprehend the number and flow of car carriers or other heavy vehicles.
In order to handle any fluctuations in traffic, Discover offered PIDC information about further infrastructure initiatives that must be implemented.
By knowing how many electric cars are coming into and going out of the Navy Yard, PIDC can make informed decisions about future locations for the installation of EV charging stations. Navy Yard can better plan possible locations for EV charge station deployment in the future by using Rekor Discover, which gathers data from Rekor’s edge systems which are constructed with NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX modules for powerful edge processing and AI to understand the number of EVs and where they’re entering and departing.
By examining data supplied by the AI platform, Rekor Discover allowed PIDC planners to produce a hotspot map of EV traffic. The solution uses Jetson and NVIDIA’s DeepStream data pipeline for real-time traffic analysis. To further improve LLM capabilities, it makes advantage of NVIDIA Triton Inference Server.
The PIDC sought to reduce property damage and address public safety concerns about crashes and speeding. When average speeds are higher than what is recommended on certain road segments, traffic calming measures are being implemented using speed insights.
NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX to Monitor Pollution in Real Time
Rekor’s vehicle identification models, which were powered by NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX modules, were able to follow pollution to its origins, moving it one step closer to mitigation than the conventional method of using satellite data to attempt to comprehend its placements.
In the future, Rekor is investigating the potential applications of NVIDIA Omniverse for the creation of digital twins to model traffic reduction using various techniques. Omniverse is a platform for creating OpenUSD applications for generative physical AI and industrial digitization.
Creating digital twins for towns using Omniverse has significant ramifications for lowering traffic, pollution, and traffic fatalities all of which Rekor views as being very advantageous for its clients.

Real Estate and Marketing: The Increasing Use of Drone Photography
Introduction
Giving a face to real estate and marketing can be as important as the stakes are today in a fast and visually influenced world. Unmanned aerial system photography has become an innovative technique that could offer diverse views to clients and help companies improve the aesthetic properties of their estates and construction plans. As a drone-friendly country, this article analyses the advantages of using drone photography services, the cost that each service entails the versatility and interaction of this technology, and how real estate agencies and marketers use aerial photography.
Why Use Drone Photography?
There are numerous benefits that can be drawn from drone photography and most of these benefits can be observed from real estate and construction companies. Aerial images reveal more than ground photography: properties are covered from different and optimal perspectives, including large land and proximity to natural features. This technique assists in giving a true picture of these big pieces of land difficult to explain when taking the common photos thus assisting potential buyers in making a better choice.
Furthermore, construction firms employ drones for surveillance of the construction site, progress supervision, and inspection for safety purposes. They can also easily check difficult-to-access areas from the aerial view, which means that, apart from being an art form, drone photography can also meet business purposes.
Usefulness for the Real Estate & Construction Industry
1. Real Estate Marketing
Real estate drone services make property listing videos interesting and very informative. Drone images are also adopted by agents in an attempt to present important aspects of the property such as the boundaries, backyard amenities, and surrounding infrastructure which create interest among the buyers. As pointed out by Austin Visuals, homes with aerial views are more appealing and have higher chances of being bought because they provide a full view of the place. This service is particularly valuable in scaled production where conventional photography fails to capture the acreage and attractiveness of the property.
2. Progress Monitoring for Construction
Today, construction firms use drones as a means of capturing each and every stage in the construction process. You have the large perspective thou he can also be used to monitor progress, report status to your stakeholders, and spot problems before they become big deals. In this context, Austin Visuals focuses on the capabilities of drones to become useful tools for construction teams as they allow them to come up with many effective yet relatively inexpensive options for monitoring the progress in the work on the construction site to keep the process on schedule.
Drone Services Cost Overview
The price of drone services cost differs depending on the type of project, the level of difficulty implied, and the time needed for the shooting. On average, drone services may be billed either per hour or per task, and costs begin from a few hundred dollars for a simple real estate photography job to higher costs for construction surveillance or events shooting. Also, Austin Visuals tips its prices, thus ensuring the client gets the best images in relation to his or her estimated cost.
Furthermore, when searching for ‘drone services near me,’ there are likely to be package offerings for real estate agencies where the agency gets boundary over layers, panoramic shots, and a format that is ready for MLS. This flexibility helps to keep businesses on the receiving end of aerial photography services more than willing to use their money.
Looking for the Best Drone Photography Service
When planning to search for “drone photography near me” or “ drone services” there are a few factors that have to be looked at, which include the experience of the provider, the quality of equipment, and the portfolio. To avail of high picture quality, reliable industries, such as Austin Visuals, provide sophisticated drones. Their team always works hand-in-hand with clients to capture bespoke visuals for properties, construction sites, or events.
Conclusion
Services provided by these drones are revolutionizing the way businesses promote properties, manage projects, or even document key events. Pricing and services are clear today, so it is very easy to search for reliable “drone services near me”. Some examples of organizations that have created their niche in this field include; Austin Visuals, which utilizes its technical and creative skills to produce beautiful aerial images suited for various purposes.
Thus, with the inclusion of drone photographic services in marketing and operation, different companies will have a unique selling proposition, where they will attract more clients while at the same time making a profit and reducing costs. From real estate drone services to figuring out ‘drone services cost’, hiring professional drones guarantees that your work gets maximum attention through professional drone services. Out of space, Austin Visuals provides great services for those who are willing and able to take the business to new heights.

Festival and Documentary Video Production for South by Southwest (SXSW)
Festival and Documentary Video Production for South by Southwest (SXSW)
South by Southwest (SXSW) is one of the most anticipated cultural events of the year, attracting creatives, innovators, and visionaries from around the globe. This annual Austin, Texas festival is a melting pot of music, film, technology, and education, offering an unparalleled platform for creative expression and collaboration. With its dynamic mix of interactive panels, live performances, film screenings, and tech showcases, SXSW is the perfect stage for festival and documentary video production.
In this blog, we’ll explore how video production plays a crucial role at SXSW, from capturing the energy and diversity of the festival to creating compelling documentaries that tell the stories behind the event.
Why Video Production is Vital for SXSW
SXSW is more than just a festival—it’s a cultural phenomenon that touches a wide range of industries, from entertainment to technology and beyond. Video production is essential for capturing the full scope of this dynamic event. Here’s why video plays such a key role:
Documenting the Experience With so many performances, panels, and events happening simultaneously, SXSW can feel like a whirlwind. Professional video production helps document the experience, creating a lasting record of key moments, artist performances, keynote speeches, and interactive sessions. From concert footage to behind-the-scenes interviews, video captures the sights, sounds, and emotions of the festival, preserving its unique energy for audiences both present and those who couldn’t attend.
Amplifying Brand Visibility SXSW is a global stage for brands, startups, and filmmakers looking to make their mark. Festival video production enables companies to extend their reach beyond the event itself by creating branded content that showcases their presence at SXSW. Whether it’s producing highlight reels, interviews, or event recaps, video content can be shared across social media, websites, and other platforms to build brand awareness and engage with broader audiences.
Telling Powerful Stories Through Documentaries SXSW is home to hundreds of unique stories—of innovation, art, activism, and collaboration. Documentary video production allows filmmakers to dive deeper into these narratives, creating thought-provoking content that reflects the festival’s eclectic mix of culture and ideas. Whether it’s following the journey of a featured artist, exploring the impact of a new technology, or documenting the social movements discussed at the event, documentaries provide a way to explore SXSW’s impact on a larger cultural and societal scale.
Enhancing Audience Engagement Video content is one of the most engaging forms of media, and for an event as immersive as SXSW, it’s crucial to create videos that draw in the audience. From live streams of keynote speeches to real-time social media video updates, video production helps engage both in-person and virtual audiences. It also extends the festival experience by creating compelling post-event content that keeps SXSW in the public eye long after the festival ends.
Types of Video Production at SXSW
There are several different types of video content that can be produced at SXSW, each serving a unique purpose and audience. Here are some of the most impactful video formats that help capture the essence of the festival:
Event Highlight Reels Highlight reels are essential for showcasing the best moments of SXSW. These short, high-energy videos combine footage of performances, speaker panels, tech demos, and crowd reactions to give viewers a comprehensive feel of the festival’s atmosphere. Highlight reels are perfect for brands looking to share their participation in SXSW or for organizers wanting to encapsulate the energy of the event for future promotion.
Live Streaming and Recaps Not everyone can make it to SXSW in person, but live streaming allows global audiences to engage with the event in real time. From live-streamed music performances to panel discussions on emerging technologies, streaming brings the festival to life for remote viewers. Recap videos are also useful for condensing the day’s events into a shareable format, giving viewers a chance to catch up on what they may have missed.
Documentary Features SXSW has long been a breeding ground for documentary storytelling. Filmmakers use the festival as a backdrop for exploring deeper themes like cultural shifts, technology’s role in society, and the stories of individual artists or activists. Documentaries produced at SXSW can range from short-form content to full-length features, each capturing the essence of the festival’s vibrant atmosphere and thought-provoking discussions.
Behind-the-Scenes Content One of the most fascinating aspects of SXSW is what happens behind the curtain. Behind-the-scenes videos give viewers a glimpse into the production process, whether that’s setting up for a live concert, interviewing artists backstage, or documenting the preparation behind tech demos and film screenings. This type of content adds depth to the overall festival experience and builds excitement by showing how the event comes to life.
Artist and Speaker Interviews Interviews with musicians, filmmakers, innovators, and thought leaders are a key component of video production at SXSW. These interviews provide deeper insights into the artists’ creative processes, the motivations behind their projects, and their experiences at the festival. Capturing these conversations on video adds value to the festival’s programming and creates engaging content for viewers who want to learn more about the personalities shaping the event.
Brand Activations and Experiences Many brands host interactive experiences or activations at SXSW, from tech demos to immersive pop-ups. Video production teams capture these activations, creating promotional content that brands can use to extend their reach beyond the festival. These videos often highlight the brand’s innovation, audience interaction, and impact on festival-goers, making them powerful marketing tools for future campaigns.
Best Practices for Festival and Documentary Video Production
To make the most out of video production at SXSW, it’s important to follow some best practices that ensure the content is engaging, professional, and aligned with the festival’s energy.
Plan Ahead and Be Flexible SXSW is a fast-paced and unpredictable environment, so it’s crucial to have a production plan in place, but also to be adaptable. Work with a professional video production team that can handle the festival’s dynamic atmosphere, moving quickly to capture spontaneous moments while sticking to a schedule for planned shoots like interviews or performances.
Capture Authentic Moments One of the biggest draws of SXSW is its authenticity—people come to the festival for genuine experiences, creative expression, and cultural exchange. Your video production should reflect that. Focus on capturing real interactions, organic crowd reactions, and moments that reflect the spirit of the festival. Whether you’re filming an artist’s performance or attendees exploring the trade show floor, authenticity will resonate with your audience.
Leverage High-Quality Equipment SXSW is known for its cutting-edge tech and creative innovation, so your video production should be high quality. Use professional-grade cameras, audio equipment, and lighting to ensure the content stands out visually and audibly. Given the fast-paced nature of the event, consider using mobile rigs, drones, and gimbals to capture smooth footage from various perspectives.
Tell a Story Whether you’re producing a documentary or a short event highlight reel, storytelling is key. Don’t just capture random moments—craft a narrative that ties the footage together. Focus on a theme or story arc, such as the journey of a specific artist, the launch of a groundbreaking product, or the cultural impact of the festival. A strong narrative will make your video more compelling and memorable.
Engage with Your Audience Video content is meant to be shared, so think about how to engage your audience. Use social media platforms to share real-time clips, behind-the-scenes snippets, and event highlights. Encourage audience interaction through comments, shares, and hashtags, creating a sense of community around the festival. For documentary features, make sure to promote your content on platforms where your target audience is most active.
Conclusion: Capturing the Essence of SXSW through Video
South by Southwest is a one-of-a-kind event that brings together creativity, technology, and culture in a way that few festivals can. Video production is an essential tool for capturing the festival’s spirit, whether through engaging highlight reels, compelling documentaries, or in-depth interviews with thought leaders and artists.
By investing in high-quality video production, brands, filmmakers, and content creators can amplify their presence at SXSW, telling stories that resonate long after the festival ends. From showcasing innovative tech to documenting the cultural conversations that define the event, video is the key to making a lasting impact at SXSW.

the Wrestler: Volume 26, 2009
WORKIN’ STIFF
BY AL CASTLE
ROH’s RECESSION WOES
The wrestling industry undoubtedly will not be spared some anguish during these especially tough financial times. With American families forced to cut their budgets, surely the regular trip to the local live event, the $40 pay-per-view, and this month’s WWE DVD release are logical targets.
One wrestling company in particular may be especially affected by the economic pitch–Ring of Honor.
With a combined seven hours of first-run television programming for free each week, WWE And TNA Should be able to keep fans tuned into their shows during the leanest times. When the economy finally turns around, fans will not have missed a beat and may be more than willing to reach into their pockets.
But that prospect does not really exist for ROH. With no TV exposure, ROG relies almost exclusively on fans’ willingness to spend money on DVD releases, live events, and pay-per-views to follow the product. That may be wishful thinking during this economy.
[Athletic showcases by ROH stars such as Austin Aries and Nigel McGuinness are great, but ROH may need to add more flash to its production if it’s to ride out the economic downturn.]
While ROH’s founders should be commended for surviving as long as they have with such a unique business model, it may have finally caught up with them.
More than ever, the little wrestling company that could needs to.
DIS-HONORABLE PRODUCTION VALUES
It may seem counter-intuitive, but as ROH struggles through a slow economy, one way to reverse its fortunes may be by spending more money on its production.
When fans first caught a glimpse of ROH in 2002, they may have been willing to overlook the low-budget feel of the product in exchange for world-class athleticism.
But, nearly seven years later, ROH has made only incremental improvements on its production side, and fans are noticing. In an age when fans are used to getting their pro wrestling delivered to them in high definition and stereo sound, offering them a product in which wrestlers’ faces are washed out by harsh lighting, barely audible in-ring promos, and on-screen graphics straight out of public access television is inexcusable.
Asking ROH to make a major investment in its production might be a tall order at this time, but, if done correctly, making the outlast could see ROH through these tough times, and leave the company in good stead when the economy eventually levels off. Wrestling fans–and possibly television distributors–are far more likely to spend for a wrestling product that features a sleek, major league feel, rather than one that looks as if it were put together by a high school media class.
A HI-DEFINITELY BETTER PRESENTATION
ROH could learn a lesson on the importance of presenting a big league look from TNA, which recently took another major step on the production side by converting to high-def broadcasts.
However, it should be pointed out that TNA did more than just buy new cameras. The promotion overhauled the entire look of the Impact Zone, which was refitted with several massive video screens and a new entrance stage.
While TNA may deserve criticism for a lot of things, it has always “gotten” the importance of adding a little sizzle to its steak–even on a shoestring budget. Whether that meant having the late Jill Jarrett personally apply a fresh coat of paint on the beat up Nashville Fairgrounds during TNA’s earliest days, or positioning cameras–and fans–to disguise the fact that an arena is just a quarter-full, TNA’s production team may be the masters of doing a lot with a little.
You’d be shocked how small the Impact Zone really is.
FROM HI-DEF TO HIGHLY DEAFENING
To see event and television production at its highest level–in wrestling or any other form of sports and entertainment–you need look no further than WrestleMania. Granted ROH doesn’t have the operating budget of WWE, but it could try to follow McMahon’s blueprint–albeit on a much smaller scale.
WWE producers get cracking on putting together the annual “Grandaddy Of Them All” as soon one year’s installment comes to a close–if not earlier. Millions are spent each year on elaborate lighting, video screens, and spectacular entrance stages. WWE’s production team was at its very bets when it transformed the rundown Citrus Bowl into the site of one of the most visually magnificent spectacles in history–WrestleMania 24.
And, of course, no major WWE events would be complete without a healthy dose of loud and thrilling pyrotechnics.
[WWE’s Survivor Series offers a rare opportunity for fans to see star-packed teams do battle. Senior Writer Al Castle says–and The Undertaker can attest–Survivor Series is the ultimate forum for teamwork.]
I should have thought of that before I bought tickets right next to the stage for the upcoming WrestleMania 25 in Houston, Texas. I planned to attend the event with my child, who will be three months old by then. Suffice it to say, I ended up having to trade them for a set of tickets as far away from the stage as possible. I picked up a set of baby ear plugs as well.
It will all be worth it to be able to tell my kid someday, “You were at WrestleMania 25.” Hopefully, my kid will be able to hear me.
THERE’S NO “I” IN TEAM CHALLENGES
When WrestleMania finally does invade Houston, Texas, it’s a good bet John Cena will be involved in the night’s main event. WWE’s recent Survivor Series was built primarily on the return of Cena. And, surely, more fans paid to see his return to the ring than anything else on the show.
Except for me. The main selling point for the Survivor Series for me each year is the traditional five-man elimination tag team matches.
Historically, pro wrestling has been a sport driven by individuality. With tag team championships undervalued in recent years, wrestlers compete primarily for solo glory. Matches like the Royal Rumble and the Elimination Chamber reward an every-man-for-himself-mentality, Only once a year do wrestling fans get to feel like those of other sports by rooting on not just their favorite wrestler, but also their favorite team.
Indeed, as in baseball and football, the Survivor Series is all about working together. A wrestler who is in it only for himself may quickly find himself outnumbered five to one. A wrestler who worries as much about his partners’ shoulders being pinned to the mat as he does his own exponentially increases his odds of winning.
Unfortunately, the elimination tag team concept has been treated less like a highlight of the annual show and more like a necessary burden. Here’s hoping WWE stays true to the original vision of Survivor Series. Besides, I still haven’t gotten over the show being moved from Thanksgiving night.
