Okay, so I wonder if the problem here has less to do with translating the register of the speaker to something more natural for the target audience than with the fact that they used ă specifically.
If this were just an everyday interview on something like "What do you think of this tourist spot?" that has nothing to do with gender or differences in cultural norms in Aus vs. Japan, then I think that masculinizing her Japanese dub would probably draw unnecessary attention to her speech for TV viewers who are probably just expecting to learn how much foreigners love this one tourist spot in Japan. And I think you'd agree--you probably wouldn't have even reacted if they had made her speech a little more feminine but more neutral in other ways, like using ç§ or ăŸăă»ă§ă (although that seems a little unnatural for a TV interview, and then you'd just be thinking about formality rather than gender).
I think the real issue is that... most Japanese women nowadays don't use ă. If a Japanese woman were stopped on the street for a similar interview, I highly doubt they would use ă, and of course they would never add ă in for any subbing of their dialogue.
When I was first reading this post, my first thought was about how I was watching my partner play dubbed Uncharted. It's not a series I'm especially familiar with, but when the female character came on and was speaking in ă and ăź all over the place, my first thought was... "She would not say that."
I mentioned this to my partner (who is not a translator but is a huge movie buff), and he mentioned that Uncharted in particular is going for a nostalgic, Hollywood style of movie, and the dubs in that case were mimicking the translation style of films in the 80s, which in a lot of ways defined Japanese people's expectations for Hollywood movies. As a result, I think those translation styles have stuck around because they're so entwined with the sense of "Hollywood movie", although that's not to say that things shouldn't be reevaluated and changed (or maybe even are currently in the midst of changing).
In fact, I kind of wonder if the use of ă nowadays has more in common with the classic Hollywood, Mid-Atlantic accent, which was really more affectation than actual dialect. Not to say that ă is also similarly constructed--it actually appears to have a long history beginning with school girls in the Meiji period using it maybe even as a form of mild rebellion (a more in-depth paper here that looks really intriguing). That image has obviously changed as it became widespread and more established, up until the current day where it would be an unusual way for modern women to talk, for whatever reason.
I feel like there could be a lot of issues coming to a head here that I'm not necessarily qualified to discuss... Like, is there a large overlap in audiovisual translators for Hollywood movies and Japanese news shows? Are there style guides keeping translators in line with rigid gender roles that perhaps need to be reevaluated? Do Japanese people expect Westerners to speak like Hollywood stars? Is there a larger tolerance for exaggeration in Japanese entertainment (think anime and kabuki) where Westerners expect more authenticity and realism? Is there a sort of shame associated with exaggerated feminism that we might not find in men's speech?
But in my opinion (as a non-native Japanese speaker), while I think ă may have an understandable place in media translation (or even native Japanese media), I do not think it had a place in that interview translation. It sounds like that was a neutrally casual Australian phrase that was not translated into what would be an equally neutral phrase for a Japanese woman, but instead added an unnecessary element of femininity.
Iâve been having trouble putting this idea into words so youâll have to bear with me, but I was struck when I saw a Japanese news program interviewing foreign tourists in Japan, and some australian women were dubbed over with a stereotypically feminine speech register (lots of ăźs and ăs), and my first thought was âthey werenât speaking that femininely in englishâ.
A friend of mine from the UK recently mentioned that he noticed that australia has a generally more masculine culture than england - he felt that everyone is a bit more masculine here, including women. This kind of confirmed to me that my impressions of the dubbing were right - the tourists were speaking in a relatively (internationally) more masculine way. Yet their dub made them sound so much more feminine.
It made me wonder. When translating something, do you translate the manner of speaking âdirectlyâ, or ârelativelyâ in terms of cultural norms? Maybe this graph will help me explain the question.
A direct appoach in this case might appear to a Japanese person to result in an unexpectedly masculine register, but preserves how the speaker's cultural upbringing has influenced their speech.
The news program translators chose the relative approach - I think I would prefer the direct approach. I think I prefer it because I believe translation should be a rewriting of the original utterance as if the speaker was originally speaking the target language, and the direct approach compliments that way of thinking the best.
Actually now that I type that, Iâm second guessing myself. Does it? It does, if for the purposes of the ârewrite it as if they spoke japaneseâ thought experiment, we suppose the speaker magically learned japanese seconds before making the utterance, but what if we suppose the speaker magically grew up learning japanese - then maybe they would conform to the relative cultural values. But also, maybe they would never have said such a thing in the first place - their original utterance was informed by their upbringing and cultural values, so how could you possibly know what they would have said if they had known japanese from birth? Maybe my initial instinct was right after all?
If you work in translation, Iâm very interested to hear if you have come across this problem and how you deal with it đ
Further reading: I think this question also ties into this problem Iâve been struggling to answer for a while.
#translation#japanese#jimmy-diphthong#ă#This was such an exciting thought to stumble upon in my 5 seconds of tumblr today#and led to some really interesting discussions with my partner#I'm very curious to hear what kind of show it was used for#I'm guessing it's a fluff piece#And I don't always think those shows have the motive of showing authentic foreigners#both in who they choose to show and what responses they'll pick to broadcast from a whole reel#Also I'm really curious now about what style guides those shows may have for translators#And I wish I knew more E>J audiovisual translators to ask!!

I am literally too tired to enjoy anything and it fucking sucks. like literally every type of Little Treat people give themselves I can't fucking use right now because all I can do is lay on the couch and look pitiful. it is not that high on the list of Fucking Problems but it is definitely not helping because I'm literally unable to take steps to cheer myself up. (other people are also straight incapable of cheering me up. there is nothing that can be done. I just have to fucking Be Sad until I'm physically recovered enough to be less fucking sad.)
#clothes? makeup? bath bombs? video games? plants? literally anything??? nope. can't use it.#I have bought all the qol things I can think of that will actually have any effect right now.#(spoiler alert: qol Still Fucking Dire.)#idfk. I'm so tired. I'm so tired. I'm so tired.#even like. blankets. stuffed animals. pajamas.#I don't really see a point to getting more even though they'd normally make me happy.#I can't tolerate new textures or hauling even more things back and forth each day.#like I can't make my body more mine right now.#I can't paint my nails or whatever or even ask one of my partners to do it.#and like I would love to make my environment more mine but I spend all my time in the shared space#and we're in an apartment so there's very little I can do to start with.#so I don't even know what I could do#like even a fucking dvd of a tv show or something!#can't get to the blu-ray player easily. even if I could I don't enjoy audiovisual fiction anymore.#and I rarely enjoyed high production audiovisual nonfiction in the first place.#like I haven't spent a cent of the lush gift card mom gave me#1 because I physically can't tolerate the mall but 2 because I couldn't use their stuff even if I had it#because bathing once a week is now optimistic and using a bath bomb feels like such a fucking waste when it's all just static

Meet Alix!
⊠Species: Gummorph
⊠Height and weight: 160cm/5'3'', 55kg/121lb
⊠Likes: Playing the piano, watching movies, fashion, sour gummies, listening to unpopular music, the color green, meeting new people
⊠Dislikes: Crowds, nosey people, rain, mirrors, the dreams
⊠Personality: Alix in a girl to intense for her own good! She loves being around people, but is way too busy being an alien on Earth to actually form any healthy connections. Though she learns at a much quicker pace than humans do, when it comes to emotional and affective maturity, she's got a way longer path ahead than what she'd like to admit. Being a hopeless romantic, it's hard to find her not crushing awfully bad on someone. She loves nerding out with her friends and making music with her band, where she's the keyboard.
⊠Fun facts: She's studying Audiovisual Communication in college. She finds stereotypical alien paraphernalia hilarious and collects items with đœ on them (and also cows). She has a fake hair dying routine memorized for when people ask her how she keeps her hair so pink all the time.
⊠Story: Alix landed (or rather, crashed) on earth when she was 8. She was found with no memories or belongings other than an alien space suit that's now too small for her and her Alien Antennae Muters (as she's called them). The person who found her was a boy who's older half-sister happened to be an acclaimed biologist. She decided to adopt Alix and conceal her to avoid... certain things Alix doesn't like to think about.
Although she was able to catch up with most human societal norms and eventually attend school thanks to some string pulling from her caregiver, Alix has spent most of her life in the dark about her alien features, having found out about most of her abilities by accident as she grew and not from the get go. Tired of screaming for answers into the void, she's decided to stop wondering about mysteries so much and just live life as well as she can. She's grown used to camouflaging for enough time a day for her to be able to finally move to the city and attend college, and, who knows, she might be able to find someone who's both hot and fine with not knowing much about your partner's life there. Hopefully.
.
Lore dump post that took way longer than it had any business doing! Anyway, here she is, my OC Alix! She's really important to me and I've been trying to figure both her and her story for about a year by now, so a lot has changed through time, but this is the info that is 100% canon so far. Excuse the weird grammar choices. I'ts late af.
#ik she's normative af but i just based her on myself. other characters in her story will have more varied body types#aurosokyart#aurosokyoc#aurosokyalix#oc art#alien#alien oc#oc lore#autism#worldbuilding

Impossibly romantic, isn`t it?
INT. CASTLE DRACULA/DRACULAâS CHAMBER - NIGHT
On Zoeâs eyes - they fly open.
Wider: sheâs in a spacious, ornate bedchamber. What Draculaâs bedroom would have looked like when he was alive. She looks well again - more than well, beautiful, glowing. And sheâs not alone in the bed. Dracula, naked, is on top of her, making love to her. Heâs tender, passionate - this is impossibly romantic.
Well, this fragment shows how much work was done on this series and that it was made as an audiovisual text precisely. In the script, Dracula takes Agatha to his castle and makes her fully healthy and beautiful. It's so touching but doesn`t have that global and philosophical sense as the real finale has. Though I love the idea that he wanted her home. He wanted her to be his wife. His partner. So beautiful.

Brazilâs Abortion Dilemma Explored in Ventana Surâs Pix-in-Post Debut âNovemberâ
Milena Timesâ debut feature âNovemberâ joins two further titles from Brazil as part of Primer Corte and Copia Final, Ventana Surâs pix-in-post industry showdown. It participated in various development guises including BrLab â Audiovisual Project Development Laboratory in 2017, and as a finalist for the CabĂria Screenplay Award, also participating in Cabiria Lab 2020. Fully funded at both state and national levels in Brazil, âNovemberâ is a testament to the burgeoning film industry in the country.
âWhen the project for âNovemberâ first came to us, there was already great potential in the proposal offered by screenwriter and director Milena Times,â said producer Dora Amarim, who alongside producing partners JĂșlia Machado and ThaĂs Vidal, runs Ponte Produtoras. âMilenaâs trajectory as a filmmaker and her participation in feminist movements immediately encouraged us to embrace the project in a definitive way. As we began the development stage and the first phase of research, upon approaching the subject of abortion, the reflections that arose also compelled us to reinforce the relevance and significance of this project against a society that still condemns women based on religious parameters and disregards the value of their lives, especially in the case of poor Black women, who run greater risks in clandestine practices,â Amarim added.

So, the summary of art is here! And 2022 has been yet another hell of a year. I'm very pleased with how my art went this time around, despite having gone through several art crisis and being in the middle of figuring out a new style of sorts. I finally got back to doing more painted style drawings, and I have a defined process figured out! Also, I've been doing a lot of references and character design stuff this year, which is something I really wanted to do. The start of the year here was a bit weak though, and the first picture was actually made on a friend's tablet since I wasn't home!
In that sense, 2022 has been a really wild year life-wise. I ran from home due to abuse, ended up two months at @boociforme 's, then I moved with my partner. The situation in this new place hasn't been too great either because their parents are equally abusive, but we're looking forward to moving soon enough, and I'll be starting freelancing (and opening commissions!) very soon. On a lighter note, I finally ended my degree this year officially, so I'm an Audiovisuals and Transmedia graduate now!
Here's hoping that 2023 will be a bit nicer at last. And finally, I want to thank everyone who has been around for this journey, it's been rocky but hopefully things will be improving very soon!

the discussion about how to write good sex is my catnip.
responding to previous anon, i had a few thoughts:
as moderator mentioned before, a lot of fanfic is by people who don't have actual experience with sex (gay or otherwise re byler), so it's probably drawn from porn even more than it is from their own personal fantasy. the age people first interact with porn, and therefore think that's an accurate portrayal of sex, is getting younger and younger what with internet access. but most porn is performance.
obviously people can enjoy performative aspects of sex, but esp re: mike and will or characters having sex for the first time, behaving performatively is less likely to be a genuine preference and more likely to be out of obligation - such as women thinking they need to be loud, men thinking they need to be silent/last a long time.
however, for mike and will, who likely have never seen audiovisual pornography, they just wouldnt know to use these words like 'baby' etc., and even if mike had sneaked one of ted's VHS tapes (eww), then he would likely be so awkward the first time that he would forget - ESPECIALLY around his lifelong best friend! so sex would instead be intuitive for them. which leads me to think that...
fanfic writers don't want to portray awkward sex because it's, apparently, 'unsexy'. now you can see what a paradox this is, but 'sexy' means something very specific to different people, often based on pop culture role models and ideals (phoebe cates anyone?). writers don't feel comfortable engaging with the reality of sex (rather than performative, idealistic sex) because it can be oddly... normal. mundane. sex can be average, bad, not at all the big deal its made out to be. this does one of two things:
ONE, it makes sex into something easy and accessible, and there are many institutions who don't want you to realise this, because it means they either lose money or lose control (not to get too political), and TWO, it does the opposite: it means that good sex becomes something intimidating and hard to reach, and puts people off when all they want is a bit of cheap release. because good sex, spiritually magnificent sex between people with a real connection and who are in love, is genuinely rare irl. and this is why seeing fictional characters find this connection is so cathartic.
so yeah, many fanfic writers who dont have irl experience are flexing a muscle, but they probably don't trust themselves or their audience enough to follow their instincts and write sex as they ACTUALLY would enjoy or want it to be - probably because they don't even know what they want.
it's a famous stereotype with males, that they are visually stimulated and don't have a highly vivid imagination (the visual stimulation part is rooted in truth, whereas typically females are more about emotional connection, originating with the need to nest and make a safe home). This is why pornography is so popular amongst men. I've even read published books that mention men who aren't visually stimulated during sex, and i'm like this female author clearly has done zero research lol.
Second anon was right about sex being somewhat separate from our real lives - see ideas like 'heat of passion' and 'haze' and 'fog' used in sexual contexts - which explains clumsiness, lovesickness, and blacking out during orgasm. (This, as well as the euphoria and relaxation that healthy sex can provide, solo or partnered, makes it genuine self-care, which is why it's such a shame that so many think it's harmful or embarrassing.) We DO disengage from reality somewhat during sex, as parts of the brain shut down, which means personality can change and become more animalistic if there is true abandonment. again many people never reach this level of trust irl, so perhaps extreme wildness in fanfic is a way of living vicariously.
but that said, fanfic is still storytelling, and readers want to see these specific characters in a sexual scenario, so i think the writer has a duty to be in service to those characters and find a way to make it believable, even if said characters do get a little wild. finding this balance is good writing - so maybe i'm just lamenting the lack of good craftsmanship in fanfic. honestly, the reason is probably because most great writers are out there creating their own original material, which is considered a much more worthwhile thing to do if you have a passion for storytelling (even though fanfic can teach you a lot about writing).
as for sex in movies, its a fascinating topic esp if you look into the history of intimacy co-ordination, which only recently became industry standard. in the past, many directors simply said 'you know what to do' to the actors. this had pros and cons: on the upside, it allowed for improvisation, realism, and the actors to take creative control, which performers from past generations/with classical theatre backgrounds thrived on; on the downside, it meant women especially could be taken advantage of or lose control in a scene, and that it was essentially the actors having simulated sex rather than the characters, which you can understand is problematic. (that said, there always will be an element of similarity between actor and character considering it's the same physical person. actors shouldn't be in the business if they aren't comfortable with this fact, and its up to them to control how different their performance is from their true self).
in film, camera angle, tone, context, EVERYTHING is essential for getting a sex scene right. i haven't seen many that hit the spot of respectful, hot af AND narratively appropriate, esp in gay sex scenes. Call me by your name was up there, but then that got a load of bad press for various other reasons.
I personally am praying they get byler right if they do it, though with the amount of things involved (including the edit/post production), it will be a miracle if everything comes together well.
lastly (thanks if youve made it this far!!), in my experience, written sex that i enjoy the most in published books does the following:
makes creative use of wording that is context- and era-appropriate (e.g. 'prick' instead of 'cock' or 'dick', or just implicit descriptions)
cuts away from the action in a way that doesn't feel frustrating but rather that you don't even need to read what they actually did
focuses on the emotional meaning of sex within the story
asks 'why' over and over - what does sex add to the character?
in short, smut itself will always be smut, and very hard to make narratively appropriate because it exists to make people horny lol. i assume this is where people start getting uncomfortable with byler in this conext, because the line between narratively explorative sex and simple porn can be a fine one, and a subjective one too. as a writer, i think it all comes with practise, and, as with sex irl, discovering what you actually like.
loving this discourse anon, more please!
very fascinating points! detailed and thorough! much to chew on.

GAMEREACTOR Finland reviews Goodbye Volcano High!!
By Petter Lundberg. Some translated highlights:
Goodbye Volcano High and the musical apocalypse. -Along with surprises like Dave the Diver and Viewfinder, Goodbye Volcano High from the KO_OP game house deserves its share of the spotlight. -Goodbye Volcano High follows the adventures of Fang, who is celebrating their senior year, in a world where dinosaur characters sketched as humans are facing a new one. Strange phenomena interfering with cell phone networks plague the activities of Fang and their friends, even though their thoughts wander beyond the everyday mundanities. -Planning further studies and piloting the band that Fang founded with their friends in the pits of the talent competition take surprising turns in the game adventure, which combines the text-driven storytelling of visual novel games and the relaxed music playing of rhythm games, mainly with pleasant results. -The story, which creates fear and tension towards an uncertain future, strongly reminds me of the indie adventure Season: A Letter to the Future (2023), which deals with the same themes. -In the spirit of the Life Is Strange game series (2015-), Goodbye Volcano High, which combines pop indie rock and interpersonal twists, relies on excellently animated scenes in its narration. The colorful Game World and the personable characters look like a modern Netflix animated series at its best, which would be fine to stream. -The excellent sound show and the music side make sure that Goodbye Volcano High is quite an interesting whole in terms of audiovisual talent. You can get a feel for the music composed by Omar Dabbous with the help of rhythm mini-games, which undoubtedly surprise you with their pace. -Goodbye Volcano High offers a special and interesting game experience for the winter days of the beginning of the year. -Above all, those who enjoyed the games of the Life Is Strange series should take the introductions of Fang and their partners to the test if the time starts to get long while waiting for the next Life Is Strange.

It's kind of selfish too. I just like it. I'm always looking for the new new shit."
Erykah has also collaborated with Italian fashion house Marni on a capsule collection which was sold in select Marni boutiques.
"Everything is vibration and sound, from the sound of the birds that I've heard since I was a child...(to) the clothes I wear - the clothes in my Marni line all have bells on them," the Dallas native said. "So, if I associate everything with music, it's very easy for me to create...there's a variety of things I listen to throughout the day, from wind chimes in the morning to Brent Faiyaz in the afternoon to Bach - I mean, there's just so many different things. I just love music and frequency. It is my therapy."
Badu describes the Marni collection as something of an audiovisual experience, what she calls "mystical instrumental wear."
A champion for Black women and free thought, she's not only in an era of reinvention, but expansion. She's entered the cannabis industry partnering with Cookies, arguably the world's most recognizable legal marijuana brand. She's worked with Cookies co-founder Berner to create a weed strain called That Badu, also working on a mushroom tea line.
Although it's been years since Badu put out an album, she has recently gone on tour, called The Unfollow Me tour. In an interview with Vibe, she revealed the inspiration for the name of the tour - cancel culture. "Whenever someone says something in the comments, they don't agree, I don't care, unfollow me, doesn't matter," she told the magazine.
"One thing I brag about all the time is that my sister is probably the only artist I know who easily sells out arenas despite not having put out an album in almost a decade," says sibling Koryan, or Koko for short. Koko once sang backup for Badu's band, but these days acts as her sister's right hand. With a trucker hat pulled over striking waist-length platinum blonde braids, Koko carries herself like a woman who means business. Badu's turning point, she explains, came when the pandemic brought touring to a halt.
The pivot was swift and effective: the launch of Badubotron, a streaming platform hosting concerts from Badu's home that could be viewed for the nominal fee of $1. These attracted more than a hundred thousand fans enamored of Badu's elaborate costumes, wild performances, and otherworldly DIY sets. In one of her shows, Badu and her band appeared to perform inside huge inflatable bubbles. The singer's popular online merch store, Badu World Market, also went live. "We just kind of came together as a family and it was like, Oh, we actually have a company right here," says Koko, whose son, Malcolm, and daughter, Diamond, also work for brand Badu. "Everyone stepped up."
The latest family member to join the team is Badu's daughter Puma. Listening to her cover her mother's songs on TikTok, you can barely tell their voices apart. She and boyfriend Sean have been serving as Badu's personal assistants for a little over a year, which means, among other things, ensuring Badu has the 15 to 20 trunks of clothing and accessories she needs on tour. "I don't know how other family workplace dynamics go," Puma says, "but it's like a real job, and I have to buckle down and do what I need to do or else word is going to get to the CEO and I'm not going to get paid. You know what I mean?"
Inside Badu's home, it's a veritable Aladdin's cave of tchotchkes and objets d'art, with Buddha statues lining the staircase, African masks hanging on the walls, and Indian marigold garlands strung in the windows. Badu, in a silk Libertine caftan printed with pictures of monkeys in space suits, leads her guests past her recording studio to the living area, where two larger-than-life Malian brass busts have glowing sticks of incense sprouting from their heads. The fireplaces casts shadows on vintage furniture, including a throne-like peacock love seat and a retro-futurist egg pod chair. In the corner, an upright piano is buttressed by a stack of vintage Louis Vuitton trunks.

Elevate Your Corporate Event with Dubai's Top Event Planners
Elevating your corporate event in Dubai with the help of top event planners can make a significant difference in creating a memorable and successful experience. Dubai is known for its luxurious and extravagant events, and experienced event planners can help you achieve your goals. Here are some steps to consider when looking for and working with top event planners in Dubai:
Define Your Objectives: Start by clearly defining your Corporate Event Planner Dubai, goals, and budget. Understand the purpose of the event, whether it's a product launch, a conference, a team-building retreat, or a gala dinner. Having a clear vision will help event planners understand your needs.
Research Event Planning Companies: Look for reputable Corporate Event Planner Dubai. You can do this by asking for recommendations from colleagues, searching online, or attending industry events and networking functions. Check their portfolios and client testimonials to ensure they have experience in planning corporate events of your scale and style.
Set Up Initial Meetings: Arrange initial meetings with a few event planning companies to discuss your requirements and get a sense of their capabilities. This is an opportunity to ask questions, share your ideas, and see if there's a good fit between your organization and the event planner.
Discuss Your Vision: Share your vision for the event with the event planners. Discuss themes, aesthetics, branding, and any specific requirements you have in mind. Top event planners will listen to your ideas and provide creative suggestions to enhance your concept.
Review Their Proposal: Ask the event planning companies to provide detailed proposals that outline their services, including budget breakdowns, timelines, and any additional services they can offer. Compare these proposals to determine which one aligns best with your vision and budget.
Evaluate Their Experience: Ensure that the event planners have experience organizing Corporate Event Planner Dubai. Familiarity with the local market, venues, and suppliers can be a significant advantage in planning a successful event.
Check References: Ask for references from past clients to gain insight into the event planner's track record. Contact these references and ask about their experiences working with the event planner, including their level of professionalism and the success of their events.
Collaborate Closely: Once you've selected an event planner, collaborate closely with them throughout the planning process. Maintain open communication and regular meetings to ensure that your event is progressing according to plan.
Consider Cultural Sensitivity: Dubai is a multicultural city, and it's essential to be culturally sensitive in your event planning. Ensure that your event respects local customs and traditions while providing a unique and engaging experience.
Focus on Details: The success of a corporate event often lies in the details. Top event planners pay attention to every aspect, from logistics and catering to audiovisual equipment and entertainment. Work closely with your event planner to ensure all details are addressed.
By partnering with top event planners in Dubai who understand the local market and have a track record of successful corporate events, you can elevate your event and create a memorable experience for your attendees.

To be clear, their coffee is not that good and not worth it anyways, but they arenât directly funding the Republican Party like this would imply. Theyâre supporting the RNC Host Committee, who are the people organizing the event, the Republican National Convention.
By their word (make of it what you will) theyâve been âproviding in-kind support directly to the MKE 2024 Host Committee by providing coffee onsite to the first responders who are serving the city during the convention." ie, free coffee for cops and firefighters. "Partners of the Host Committee" include their event contractors (majic and rumble, audiovisual tech) and the hotel housing event staff and guests, who do not seem to be funneling money into the event but are making it function. This seems to be the position starbucks is in.
The usual suspects, American First, Turning Point USA, The Heritage Foundation, and Rally Right are all fiscal sponsors, which is why their logo gets to be Big on the cropped sponsors image. All of the event sponsors have their logos Little, but it's unclear if there were any additional financial contributions from these groups.
Personally, materially supporting the RNC in any way is enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth, and that combined with their aggressive union busting is enough reason for me to enjoy drinks elsewhere. But contextless twitter screenshots aren't helping anyone either, and for what it's worth, Starbucks is not a target of the actual BDS movement. Using whoprofits.org , Starbucks doesn't even make the list.
