Audi zou in een samenwerking met Sauber in 2026 haar intrede maken in de Formule 1. De voorbereidingen zouden echter niet soepel verlopen en de Duitse autogigant trekt naar verluidt mogelijk zelfs de stekker uit het project. Momenteel werkt Sauber nog samen met Alfa Romeo, maar daar zal voor 2024 een einde aan komen. De renstal vond al heel gauw een nieuwe partner in Audi. In augustus 2022 werd aangekondigd dat Audi de power units zal bouwen voor de Zwitserse renstal. Het zou dan in principe een Audi-fabrieksteam worden, dat wordt gerund door Sauber. De toekomst van het Audi-project ziet er naar verluidt echter niet heel rooskleurig uit. "Als Andretti nou even wacht, dan kunnen ze het startbewijs van Audi overkopen, waarschijnlijk aan het eind van dit seizoen al", wist John Hindhaugh te vertellen in het Radio Le Mans-programma Midweek Motorsport. Andretti zit momenteel in het proces om het elfde team in de koningsklasse van de autosport te worden. F1-correspondent Nick Daman reageerde: "Je bent vandaag al de derde persoon die ik dit hoor zeggen. En van wat ik hoor gaat het dus niet goed bij Audi". Hindhaugh legde uit wat het plan van Audi nu is: "Ze zullen het niet [aankondigen], terwijl het seizoen nog bezig is, maar ze zijn het aan het overwegen. Als de stekker uit het project wordt getrokken, dan wordt dat na het eind van het seizoen bekendgemaakt."

Y'all need to understand that George is the most successful (ex) Mercedes Junior Academy driver. Because:
- After his first meeting with Toto, Gwen Lagrue put him on Tech1 Racing to compete as guest driver at Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. In the last race of the series, he took a win, pole position and fastest lap from the champion aka Nyck De Vries' hands. as a GUEST DRIVER. a wild card.
-Beat DTM drivers in literally his FIRST time testing in a DTM car, topped other teams' lap times incl. Audi and Mercedes DTM team. Not to mention him topping the lap times made BMW's professional DTM drivers do more laps to try and top George's times.
-In his 2nd FRECA season and his first year as an unofficial Mercedes Junior. Mercedes can't sign him w/ PREMA since PREMA is set to focus on a certain driver that year so they had to sign up for George with Hitech GP, a team that is new to FRECA and what did George Russell do? Bring that Hitech to 2nd in teams' championship as his teammates placed 7th and 19th and he ended up 3rd in the drivers' standing
-He went on to dominate the GP3 field with the highest points % gained of ALL time and highest point lead from the vice champion of ALL time.
-Don't get me started on his F2 stats. From double DNF in Monaco to P12>P1 in Baku and still the record holder for highest point scorer of all time. He is one of the four people to score 3 poles in a row in F2 and had a total of 5 poles, 7 wins, 11 podiums, and 5 fastest laps. All that while ART had a pretty shitty beginning of the season
Bonus: He is the YOUNGEST ever winner of the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award.
Don't take George's junior career as a joke.

I've seen this Lawson being loaned out to Audi from a few sources now. Obviously just a rumour, but it would be an interesting way for RBR to keep both Daniel and Yuki at VCarb and still keep Lawson in their roster should they need him down the line...

what's been happening in the world of motorsports lately?
a summary of all news, updates and rumours we got over the last few days because f1 never sleeps, not even during the summer break
Oliver Oakes becomes the new team principal of Alpine (he is also the boss of Hitech team in F2 and F3)
RBR’s sporting director Jonathan Wheatley leaves Red Bull to become a new team principal of Audi after his gardening leave to partner Binotto who was appointed a few days ago
Andrea Stella extended his McLaren contract
like previously mentioned, Frederic Vasseur said that Ferrari’s new technical structure will be announced after the summer break but we already found out Diego Tondi has been promoted to the head of aerodynamics and different journals speculate about others (namely Mike Elliot from Mercedes who should be free for 2025 after his gardening leave and could come with Lewis and Loic Serra, and Frank Sancez that used to be in Sauber and might work on the aerodynamic team under Tondi)
Prema won the F3 Championship
F1Planet believes that based on the link between Oliver Oakes and Nikita Mazepin’s family, he could join Alpine
did I also say that apparently there are negotiations behind the scenes for Onlyfans to replace BWT as their sponsor (they are a joke, but can these reports please stop????)
Ferrari promised to continue a series of smaller upgrades to fix their new porpoising issues, McLaren will also continue their development to get even faster than Red Bull as their main goal this year is the championship(s)
FIA updated the regulations and added/changed some things, namely (very simplified) part about brakes not able to be asymmetrical to help rotation of the car and a part about stopping a car on the track not being able to continue the session (to avoid situations like when Carlos crashed in quali, caused a red flag and his car got to the boxes so fast they could repair it and he could continue in Q3)
Toto once again said that Kimi Antonelli is their first option for 2025 and there are some reports that he will be announced once he turns 18 (so as soon as Monza)
Charles was the face of newest issue of Gentleman’s Journal, Lewis came to support his bestie at Olympics, Max’s new docu series on Viaplay came out (or a part of it anyway), Sweet Corn was hanging out with daddy Guanyu and both Daniel and Lando dropped their new merch
a few journals claim that Jack Doohan is really close to signing to Alpine, if it’s not just the question of announcing it officially
the options for Audi’s second seat might include Gabriel Bortoleto (who won F3 championship and stepped up into F2)
there are rumours about GP (Max’s engineer) stepping up into Wheatley’s role that will now be vacant, because Red Bull wants to take from their own people instead of hiring the outsider workers
personal note because another episode of Charles’ Peroni campaign came out: Peroni 0.00% Nastro Azzurro lately dropped in Slovakia with Števo Eisele, Ferrari showcar (made of 2021 replica car and current livery with all its sponsors – picture below) and Charles’ race suit and Carlos’ helmet and it was so nice (they had alcohol free beer and tiramisu and pizza and cocktails for free)
Canadian GP promoter stepped down after 30 years
there are reports about Newey signing with AM (as per Autosport Official) as they are aiming to sign max as well in 2026 although there has been speculation that he is going to Ferrari because of a recent post on social media from his partner where he wears red and his manager Eddie Jordan saying not to take Ferrari out of question because he wants a challenge and that leaves mclaren out of the contention as they are already on a positive curve with development (wait whoops forgot to mention: the rumoured contract is 100m)
James Vowles spoke more about Carlos and how signing him was more like “dating” and how the whole factory cheered when he told them Carlos will join them, he also denied any clauses that has been speculated in the media and said that Carlos is in top 4 or maybe the second-best driver on the grid
Paul Aron mentioned that this is probably his only F2 season because he would need more funds for another one or an F1 team’s backing

Voor Nico Hülkenberg is het Formule 1-project van Audi er eentje om in de gaten te houden. De Duitser heeft onlangs bijgetekend bij het team van Haas, maar lijkt in de Beyond The Grid-podcast toch ook al te flirten te zijn met Audi. Voorlopig moet Sauber Alfa Romeo het nog doen met Valtteri Bottas en Zhou Guanyu als vaste rijders van het team, maar dat kan in de toekomst veranderen. "Het is zeker één van de zeer aantrekkelijke projecten op dit moment, een nieuw merk dat in de Formule 1 komt. Ook een Duitse fabrikant, mensen met wie ik al eerder heb samengewerkt en die het heel goed hebben gedaan. Ja, op papier klinkt het allemaal heel goed", zo laat The Hulk zijn licht op de deelname van Audi schijnen. Sebastian Vettel hing aan het einde van 2022 zijn helm aan de wilgen en Schumacher is momenteel in dienst als reservecoureur van Mercedes, hierdoor is Hülkenberg momenteel de enige Duitser op de grid. Hij dicht zichzelf dan ook kansen toe voor een mogelijk zitje bij Audi. "Uiteraard moet ik er nog steeds hard aan werken en overtuigende ritten blijven maken om misschien een kans te maken. Maar alleen de tijd zal het leren", aldus Hülkenberg.
