"Anhedonia" marks the return of LORD AGHEROS

LORD AGHEROS has found its own original dimension over the years which has projected it to be one of the leading Atmospheric & Avantgarde Black phenomenon in Italy.

The return to the scene, after the clamor of "Koinè", is marked by "Anhedonia", the new album from the Sicilian project which will be released in December. 

Never similar to himself, this time too, Gerassimos Evangelou, the only  LORD AGHEROS' mind, takes us into a musically extreme world that mixes Nordic-style Black Metal with ancient and melancholic atmospheres linked to symphonic and ambient elements. All this creating an absolutely incredible contrast between aggression and introspection.

These are the words of Gerassimos Evangelou about the new album: "Anhedonia is a word of Greek origin (like me among other things) and refers to the inability to feel pleasure, a theme that is reflected in the dark and desolate atmosphere of album. The entire album turns around this sense of alienation and detachment in a cold and austere context that this inability inevitably brings to our soul. In this work, on which I have spent a lot of the last 2 years, with LORD AGHEROS, I explore inner suffering through what we can define as a musical journey that crosses frozen lands, with a strong reference to Nordic musical traditions, but without losing the identity unique of the project".

The album will be released in December 2024 and as it is for years now, always expect the unexpected... this was, is, and will always be the main path of LORD AGHEROS.

No Sun Rises - Harmisod (full album, 2023)

Hello again Networkers. Today we are exciting to review here a very special act that we're truly happy to have featured in the channel: the German five-piece post-black unit NO SUN RISES. Harmisod, their last work released back in September, will make you shiver in place whether you are familiar with their sound or not (for which if you're not, we really recommend going back in their discography!). Harmisod opens with a ghostly echo surrounding the listener as intro for the first song, NebellebeN. Sharp guitars with fast riffs and gnarly voice catches you immediately in this palindrome titled song, where the mist and life seem to find each other in line. Acoustic parts hold the song together making for great slower, appeased bridges in-between parts where it return to the moving aggression in a haunting result. While in moments like this starting song the album showcases a sound that really draws from a characteristic one within black metal, it quickly departs from there combining it with the impressive acoustic strings and additional instrumentation in its tapestry such as cello and violin adding a folk touch, as shown in the next song, Unter Tage (Regress), where there's also notable the guest vocalist completing a sensational listening so far to this point, just half of the record, holding the mood out of metal for a while until the song burst in the flame of fiery emotions again. Tanz im fahlen Lichte would be the next song, which keep its 8 minutes with metal, at moments complex and shifting in quick and rich movements helping it create a palpable atmosphere with a shoegaze kick. The album turns complete with the fourth song, In trockener Erde (Bury Me), putting everything we've seen before together one step beyond, with its own intro, making for the perfect way to close the album with the sound of the fireplace in the night and the evocative artwork presented for it. The song simply represents a gateway to what will be the mood of "Anhedonia", an album where the cinematic essence of ULVER is side by side with the Avantgardism of IHSAHN, where the strength of WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM contrasts with the mediterranean touch of MOONSPELL and the dramatic elements of EMPYRIUM.

Crevasse - Orphans (full EP, 2024)

We are certainly delighted to share here today something that will probably make many of you feel pretty old (in a good way), with the first EP from the Los Angeles based band CREVASSE. Its only member, Noah Hawkins, ensures with this latest work under this artistic name (being active for 2 years now with three singles released prior to this EP) that we are kinda kicked back to the early 90s in this nearly 20 minutes solid musical effort. "Orphans" gets started with a brief acoustic intro, 'Forlorn I', before jumping straight to action in the title song with drums opening to the distortion of the first notes and soon the burst with shrieking and riffs showcasing the classic obscure sound of the first waves of black metal with fitting slower melodic bridges and a twist. Keeping a constant gloomy ambience and atmosphere, completed with more paced down and less frantic parts as in the next song, 'The Dangermond', there can also be a hint to DSBM as more doom-influenced black metal. This encapsulates the core of CREVASSE's sound, but do not miss the two covers in here: next song is another door to the early 90s with a black-metallification of 'Enjoy the Silence', by Depeche Mode. If you, like us, did enjoyed what Feminizer did with Cyndi Lauper's 'Girls just want to have fun', this translation from synth-rock and pop to the piercing chords of black metal will be very much worth of your time, as well as a rendition of the pioneers Darkthrone with a 'Transilvanian Hunger' cover, completely nailing the hypnotic riff job and atmosphere of the original piece. We hope to hear more soon from Noah and CREVASSE with this recent and promising work!
