What is the Third House?

Communication, transportation, and local community are all governed by the third house. Natal planets in the Third House are motivated by expression and often help guide you to build close relationships with their peers, [including siblings, coworkers, and classmates.]

Mercury in the Third House

This is an especially curious and inquisitive position for Mercury. You are generally very interested in reading, teaching, speaking, exchanging ideas, keeping current with the daily news, and perhaps gossiping. Your interests are many and varied, sometimes to the point that you barely skim the surface of any one topic.

You are also very easily distracted and your attention span can be quite short. Quick to learn, you are swift to share what you know with others. You can be very talkative when you have the chance. You’re a list maker, and you’re likely quite involved in/with your community. Some of you can be quite nervous or fidgety.

Venus in the Third House

You are verbally expressive, diplomatic, and aim to be tactful. You easily win others over with your words, whether it’s because of a likable facility with language, a beautiful voice, or a diplomatic use of words. You readily give out compliments. Some of you might use flattery to your own benefit at the risk of being ingenuine. You are generally a very good mediator, aiming to settle arguments quickly and restoring at least temporary peace.

You have a mischievous side, however, and your desire to be tactful and polite with others doesn’t always succeed. Some of you might engage in a lot of mind games, and others might eventually find out that you don’t always mean what you say or say what you mean! You value mental stimulation and frequent changes of scenery in your love relationships.

Moon in the Third House

You are very responsive, communicative, and curious. You can have a talent for imitating others and/or for picking up languages. You might either intellectualize your emotions rather than truly feel them and deal with them, or you communicate with excessive emotion. Some of you may do both at different times, and as you mature and develop, you learn to find a balance.

Your opinions and ideas change often, and you might find that sometimes you adopt others’ points of view and express their ideas as if they were your own. This is not necessarily because you are a copy-cat, but because you sometimes fail to own your own thoughts, and you are so very sensitive to others’ opinions. You might be quite nervous and restless, requiring frequent changes of scenery, even if the movement or travel takes place locally.

*You often make decisions solely for emotional or personal reasons, because something “feels right” or because you’ve always done it a certain way and you are uncomfortable changing it. Even when you think you’re being rational, your prejudices, intuitions, and feelings influence your thoughts a great deal. You are comfortable talking about feelings and personal subjects, and sharing confidences, which enables others to express their own inner feelings with you as well. You have good psychological insight into others.

Mars in the Third House

You speak your mind quite readily, sometimes shooting from the hip when it comes to expressing your ideas and opinions. You tend to know a lot about a variety of subjects, and like to share that knowledge with others (sometimes too forcefully!). When communicating, you are generally very direct and clear. You can easily get worked up about what others might think are trivial matters.

You love a good debate. Whether you know it or not, or no matter your intentions, you can be provocative in your communication style. You are likely gifted with manual dexterity, although you might easily become impatient with tasks. At your best, you are enthusiastic, animated, and lively in the way you express yourself, and this can inspire others. You will fervently defend your opinions and beliefs, as well as your family and childhood.

You may take a difference of opinion as a personal affront because of your strong beliefs, but remember that someone else may have something important to contribute, so is worth listening to. Jupiter in the Third House

You are forward-looking–a real planner. You are endlessly curious and enjoy making happy connections with others. Sharing ideas with others is important to you–you take great pleasure in doing so. You are able to see the big picture and thus often are turned to for advice. With your sincere interest in others, you easily put people at ease in social situations.

Saturn in the Third House

The core meaning of the third house lies in the unconscious operating of the mind in familiar surroundings. The third house indicates the natural way you act and communicate with people. People might include your siblings while growing up, co-workers, neighbors, the grocery store clerk, and so on. You can review the way your mind works in these circumstances. In that sense, it’s not unconscious.

The comedy serial, Seinfeld, explored the quirkiness in individual actions and communication in familiar surroundings — the little things that people do and say unconsciously that make them what they are! Yes, the serial about “nothing” was funny.

Saturn in the third house may make you feel ill at ease while you go about day-to-day life. You may come across as cold and reserved. You may be a “man or woman of few words”. This can turn some people off. You can use this to your advantage by listening to people. That way you don’t have to do too much talking, yet people will love you for listening!

Uranus in the Third House

You act and communicate with people around you in an offbeat, eccentric, and zany way. Naturally friendly, you very often make people smile with your wit and easy good-humor. People look upon you to ease a boring day, knowing you will perhaps have something new to say about the mundane. Your eccentricity may puzzle and sometimes annoy some. You win them over with your humility, open mind, and honesty. Creativity in communication and in all that you do sets you apart from most.

Neptune in the Third House

Dry, cold facts are hard for you to absorb, so traditional academics might not appeal. However, you are talented at visualization and whole-style learning. You are perceptive and dreamy, although you often have your head in the clouds and might miss important details. Sticking to schedules can be difficult, and so can tending to errands, communications, and other necessary daily activities. You might “tune out” when you hear specific directions, and consequently miss helpful details. You might as a result frequently be late for appointments or miss them altogether.

In your communications, you can quickly put others at ease, as you seem to intuitively understand them. You express yourself creatively, imaginatively, and with great charm. However, you might also encourage, without even knowing it, misunderstandings, as you rarely are definite in what you say. Learning, especially when young, can be challenged only because you might lack discipline or the style of learning is not creative enough to hold your interest.

Pluto in the Third House

You rarely accept what you hear or what you read as truths. Your mind is very analytical and you instinctively search for hidden meanings. You can be exceptionally persuasive in your self-expression, whether through the spoken or written word, simply because you communicate with authority, conviction, strength, and decisiveness.

You tend to learn through observation rather than by asking questions. In fact, you may be somewhat resistant to learning directly from others, preferring to self-teach. You might fear the loss of self through self-expression, and thus you might choose your words carefully as to avoid letting others know too much about you.

Astrology Charts

Many of us have delved deeply into the craft. We've done spells, we’ve done rituals. We have studied together and apart. We have learned about kitchen witchery, herbalism, medicine crafting, and making; whether it be self-taught. But let’s take a look at Astrology...

I’ll speak from my own personal experiences when using Astrology because I feel like the attached blog image states the main points.

Before my studies, I was always intrigued by astrology. But all I understood was a Sun Sign. And I always thought it was limited to horoscopes we got every day in the newspaper, online or in an app. How wrong was I?? How wrong we all were!

Astrology is a beautiful art that contains loads of secrets about our being. It is a wonderful tool that allows us to learn about ourselves, each other and also speaks to self-care and respect. It allows us to teach others we come in contact with HOW we’d like to be treated, our needs, wants, deepest fears, weaknesses, and strengths and to identify the most vital parts of ourselves: 

Chiron (our wounded healer; something we are perpetually trying to fix across lifetimes and struggle with) - it is an asteroid that orbits our solar system between Uranus and Saturn. It represents a bridge between the material and spiritual worlds. In astrology, it is your placement in your chart where you can get to know and understand what your deeper wounds are, as well as the karmic, past-life energy you are here to work through to grow and evolve. 

However, it is our unhealable injuries and incurable trauma. However, it is said that if a person decides to swim as opposed to drown in their own trauma, can accept their trauma and help others who are also suffering and finally accept that suffering is a part of life, then Chiron can act as the key to wisdom or an “Initiation Gate”.  

Like all the other planets in our chart, Chiron has a sign and house it was located at the moment you were born. 

Focusing in on this information, allows you to identify what your greatest wounds are and provides insight on how to heal them.

Some backdrop about Chiron, the wounded healer, and inner teacher: From a mythological standpoint, Chiron was a great healer, wise teacher, and one of the immortal Centaurs. However, he was deadly injured by a poison arrow from Heracles, who was his best and close disciple. Even though it was deadly, he could not die. At long last, he gave up his immortality for the benefit of Prometheus who was suffering, and Chiron was then sent to the underworld. In the underworld, Zeus showed mercy for him and raised him to the heavens.

An Example for your Understanding: My Chiron is in Virgo. People with Chiron in Virgo are generally sick for much of their lives, albeit illnesses they encounter are not serious, moreover, they are chronic and cannot be cured. This is true since many medical professionals fail to provide a correct diagnosis. With Chiron here, I have to learn to live with my health issues and find ways to cure or alleviate symptoms. I also do have a fear that once my illness is done, another one will take its place.

My Chiron is also in the 7th House. The 7th house is the house ruling of partnerships; where our relationships, spouses, and soulmates can be found. Chiron in this house speaks to my experiencing consistent pains and aches with regards to my relationships with others no matter what routes I choose to go down. These are pains that cannot be prevented or remedied. These are wounds that reopen on their own from time to time. Consequently, my course of action in life is to still try and avoid and resist these experiences. 

How? 

By turning away and shying away from people. By bracing for impact once I come in contact with others. However, this can cause me to experience even more difficulties and more severe. All of which is the case. 

We also have our North Node (What we should embrace as it is a lesson learned) to our South Node (What we should learn from and release because it proves truly detrimental to character development). 

They are also keyed ‘Lunar Nodes’. 

Funnily enough, these are not planets but astrology’s own mathematical points that happen to be directly opposite of each other in our charts. These nodes are said to have our life purpose encoded in them and in the line between the nodes.

North Node resembles our life lessons and what we are striving for in this lifetime.

South Node indicates our comfort zone and habitual place. 

An Example for your Understanding: My North Node is in Scorpio in the 8th House. My South Node is in Taurus in the 2nd House. This speaks to the conflict between spiritual and material property, between acknowledging that everything is temporary vs the desire to own something and it is in a state permanence. Recognizing that death is a great teacher. People with this node placement should not base their lives on material values. They should explore spiritual values instead. They also should stop avoiding conflicts and not stay in comfortable sterility. Lastly, they should beware of greed and try to not cling to material assets. 

Having this knowledge puts us better in the position of resolving deeply rooted issues we face in our day to day lives. If you believe in past lives, then these are things you will want to try and resolve/work out before entering the next life cycle otherwise, you may very well encounter these troubles again until you’ve learned!

The final step in my astrological identity journey: Pisces rising. It is my outward appearance to the world. Which often, people tell me my best physical feature is my eyes which they find to be big and watery.

On regular days, I hold half moon eyes and I do always look dreamy or half present in this reality. Please do not ask me where I go. I do often do not know where I go, lol.

It is easy for me hear my intuition but harder for me to follow it at times without hesitation or interference from my most logical self. One of the most valuable lessons I am trying to teach myself is detached compassion. We care, about those we come in contact with deeply and empathize oh so quickly..but sometimes to disconnect becomes morbidly difficult. And to be anything other than selfless is almost a nightmare.

But when it comes time to disappear, depart, it is done. It is so. We pack up and go, and you'll never know until you cannot find out toothbrushes and our slippers in your residency anymore. Then you find your closet empty, and you know its real.

We are never sorry we didn't tell a soul when it was our time to go. You wronged us or you've trespassed and we simply do not stand for it anymore.

This tattoo is a tribute to this piece of me. A larger piece. My identity. I am empathic, intuitive, peaceful, selfless, compassionate, a dreamer and idealist. I am gifted with a foot in the world of the seen and unseen. I am raw emotion, yin and yang, delicate and maybe even fragile and this too, is OK. But this is who I am. And this is who I will always be.

Intercepted Signs

♈ | ♎ - Aries intercepted// Trouble with assertiveness and initiating action. During childhood [especially], the feeling of “nothing belonged to you” is prominent and may still be if you’re dependent on someone else and can cause the person to be selfish and hate sharing with others. Pisces is commonly on the cusp of the intercepted house and will cause this person to daydream and idealize too much to the point of creating goals but never achieving them. When initiative is finally “achieved” it is often too impulsive; the individual must learn to consider before acting. Libra intercepted// Balanced relationships are needed that the individual didn’t get to experience in childhood or adolescence. Forming relationships with people is difficult, usually due to fear of consequences, insecurity of the self, or other circumstances (psychological, physical, etc) that prevent them from doing so. Virgo is commonly on the cusp of the intercepted house, so service to others or others seeking service from them happens often. The individual needs to learn when and when not to help others and help themselves instead.

♉ | ♏ - Taurus intercepted// A need for tangibility, stability and security because these factors might have absent or threatened during childhood. The absence of tangibility, stability and security was normalized. Taurus is ruled by the planet of love, but because it is intercepted, this individual may have felt unloved (even more so during childhood). When they did try to seek affection, they barely received it or there was a consequence, causing their self-worth to dwindle. As a result, they may still feel unloved in adolescence/adulthood and seek many relationships or resort to luxury items to fill “the void.” Will be compulsive with finances. Aries is commonly on the cusp of the intercepted house, so this individual would be a great leader and initiator, but there is still a need to finish the tasks they start, as they start several of them, but there is a struggle with completion. Scorpio intercepted// Difficulty of letting go and eradicating what is no longer needed in their life due to lack of transformation and completion. Inner intensity and power is shadowed especially if you have Libra on the cusp of the intercepted house Scorpio is in, so there is a tendency to please others and become passive. Confronting issues is difficult and avoided by the individual. They must learn to assert control.

♊ | ♐ - Gemini intercepted// Difficulties in expressing opinions because in childhood there were consequences when you spoke your mind. Difficulty in efficient communication in general. Useless information is learned; they have all this information, but there is little to no objective or purpose to it. Taurus is commonly on the cusp of the intercepted house, so there will be restriction in mental simulation and curiosity. There will also be a tendency to be close-minded and have an attachment to material items. Sagittarius intercepted// Optimism and expansion is limited, physically and/or mentally. There is a need for freedom and spontaneity, may always have a feeling of “being trapped” on account of expansion issues like being unable to travel etc. Opinions may be forced onto others (or them by others) and the information backing their opinions/information isn’t always clear or correct. Scorpio is commonly on the cusp of the intercepted house, so the individual may be secretive and too intense. The individual may have strong, negative, or conflicting feelings and/or opinions on religion and spirituality.

♋ | ♑ - Cancer intercepted// Gemini is commonly on the intercepted cusp, so there is excellent mental approach to handling situations (both negative/positive) but confronting and expressing emotions and feelings does not come easily to the individual. When emotions are expressed it is often in the form of an outburst. There is a need for emotional growth. Lots of planning of goals but no initiation and difficulty in maintaining a schedule. During childhood and perhaps still in adulthood, the person may feel like they didn’t have a place to call home. There is a need for security and closeness, felt as though their “inner world” didn’t provide enough nurturing to make them feel safe. Capricorn intercepted// Out of touch with ambitions and lack of control. Person may feel that they were not socially accepted/did not have security in social life, as though they “didn’t belong;” they don’t know where they belong in the “outer world.” Sagittarius is commonly on the cusp of the intercepted house, so freedom and independence is sought out at the expense of stability and security. There is no problem ��making plans’ for the future, but it’s a matter of actually doing something with those plans and bringing out their working talent(s).

♌ | ♒ - Leo intercepted// This person will have a timid or shy persona and will be viewed as emotional because Cancer is commonly on the intercepted house cusp. Likely to be nurturing and provide emotional support to others, but in return others will not give them the attention they want. There is difficulty in being noticed for their efforts and they are reserved and uncomfortable. There is a need for creative self-expression and frustration of finding outlets for that self-expression and being noticed for their inner creativity. This person needs and wants a sense of self-importance, but has a hard time in doing so. Aquarius intercepted// The originality of Aquarius is suppressed and shadowed by a conservative and cautious nature. Might have been dismissed in childhood when unique ideas were shared and so, it stuck in adolescence/adulthood.  Capricorn is commonly on the intercepted house cusp, so this person would be concerned with their public image and reputation at the expense of their freedom and individuality. There is a fear of dependency on others. These people want to feel normal at all costs, but once they begin to feel the need to express themselves differently, it may come out in an inappropriate way, in the form of rebelling in vain perhaps.

♍ | ♓ - Virgo intercepted// Childhood or a specific aspect of their life (where the intercepted house is) was messy; there was no routine and there might have been adults or authority figures in their life who didn’t enforce any specific rules. While this may seem like a dream come true for some children, a child is always in need of guidance and structure, something this person did not have. There will be an accumulation of bad habits that will be hard to shake in adult hood. Because Leo is commonly on the intercepted house cusp, there are fixed ideas they have of themselves that may not be true. This person can become too critical on details (and themselves) without considering the value of the “bigger picture” and likely feels doubtful of themselves, feeling they are not useful. Pisces intercepted// Aquarius is often on the cusp of the intercepted house, so views to situation are often seen in black-and-white rather than seeing the in-between, or the grey areas. As a child they may have had a wild imagination, so imaginative, that they also may have been shot down when those dreams were shared and so, in adulthood they may be directionless without those dreams to hope for. When this person begins to start acquiring their hopes and dreams, they may “dream big,” but not actually manifest them into reality. This person may seem like they have no guidance from themselves, so they often seek it from a higher power like religion or some form of spirituality. They must learn to not confuse reality with fantasy.

The 12th house

The 12th house is perhaps the most perplexing and complicated part of our charts and therefore psyche. It’s a highly important part of who we are, yet it’s something we so often run away from. 

Think about when the 12th house comes out: when we’re alone, when we’re with our own thoughts, when we’re dreaming, perhaps even when we’re intoxicated. 

These are very intimate, personal parts of ourselves. they’re who we are when we know we aren’t being subject to judgment. 

The 12th house cusp sign defines the things you enjoy that you do not want to admit to as well. 

aries: secretly more sexual, masculine, more impulsive

taurus: secretly more indulgent, lazy, romantic, clingy

gemini: secretly more gossipy, better at writing, and mentally all over the place

cancer: secretly more emotional, sensitive to others, and feminine

leo: secretly wants to entertain (so entertains themselves or when drunk), craves attention, has inflated ego

virgo: secretly judgmental/critical, hyper logical, has hard time letting loose

libra: secretly more romantic, superficial, and fun-hearted

but, the 12th house can be less ‘secret’ and less something someone is ashamed of when the ruling planet of the sign is prominent in the chart. 

for example, someone that has gemini & mercury as two of their dominants is not going to bury their gemini on the 12th house cusp as deep in their subconscious; there may be some issues with these themes, but it’ll be more prominent, positively and negatively.
