Unraveling fate

It is said that humans live a blissful life as souls up in the sky before they decide to incarnate onto the earthly realms. 

Up there everything is effortless and sweet, so perfect that we couldn’t ever imagine it properly. Yet, they decide to give up their eden perfection to come down to earth. Why you may ask?

Because they get bored. Too much of anything is deadly, even if it’s something as precious as blissful love. 

Hence, they make plans to come down to earth in order to play. Some souls are rather boring, whereas other souls are quite dramatic - making up a full play for them to enjoy. They look for other souls to play their part - mothers, fathers, villains or lovers. 

„You’re gonna do this to me and I’m gonna do that to you and we may hate each other for a while but in the end it will be all so sweet“, they giggle while making plots. What they don’t know though is that once their souls incarnate back to earth, they will forget everything they once knew - scheming plans included. 

The states of feeling mighty and powerful get replaced with vulnerability and insecurity, divinity in exchange for humanity.

A deep sigh escaped Eun Woo’s lips as he watched you cry into your pillows for the fifth time this week. 

„What’s wrong?“, his friend asked concerned.

„It’s y/n.“, he answered flatly.

„What about her?“

Eun Woo turned around and mustered his friend, thinking of the right words to predict his dilemma.

„Do you remember when she used to be with us up here?“

His friend nodded silently.

„Back then we made the perfect plan. We created our own drama, so to say.“

„What was it about?“

Flashbacks of those times entered his mind, filling his heart with a deep longing.

„Are you really sure, y/n?“, Eun Woo whispered while placing delicate kisses on your neck.

„Yes. I want to do it like that this time.“, you nodded enthusiastically.

„My love. Let’s go through the plan once more, then.“

„I will incarnate onto earth and live a miserable life. I will fail in love over and over until I can’t take it anymore. I want to discover love as a fragile, little human. I want to understand their pain and their agony. I want to be miserable, utterly miserable. I want to build my own hell and I want to understand how I’m doing it… And then, once I’m ready, then you show up, BOOM, the love of my life - in heaven and on earth and you rescue me from my deep despair and then we can be..“

„Happy.“, he interrupted. 

A big smile formed on your face. 

„Yes. Happy.“

„So, why are you so sad then? The plan seems solid.“, Eun Woo’s friend remarked.

„Somehow it’s not. She did fail in love. A lot of times. But somehow she can’t get past that stage..“, Eun Woo explained.

„How can that happen? Isn’t it written in the stars, like destiny?“

„It should be, yes.“

Both stayed silent for a while and thought about ways to resolve this. 

„Can’t you just swoop in and rescue her?“

He shook his head sadly. 

„Why not?“

„Because she wouldn’t let me.“

„Let you? Aren’t you like… her soulmate?“, his friend asked confused.

„I am. And because of that I will always find my way back to her, heaven or earth, doesn’t really matter. But she’s not ready for me, yet.“

„How can you tell?“

Eun Woo walked over to the shelf where he was keeping his collection of your play. Each act carefully documented, each act waiting for its grand finale. He came back with a heavy book, searching for the right pages.

„Do you know when souls finally find each other?“, Eun Woo asked.

„No idea.“, his friend remarked.

„It’s when they’re ready for one another. Now tell me - do you think this sounds ready?“, he asked as he pushed the book over to his friend.

It’s official - I am unlovable. Seems like everybody and their mother can find the love of their lives but not me. I’m not meant for love. I’m meant for heartbreak. Because that’s what men do - break your heart. First, they use me for sex and then they dispose me like a tissue. Reject me. Abandon me. Block me.

Relationships suck. Love sucks. This is too hard and it always ends in pain. Fuck this shit, I’m going to die alone. Because apparently nobody wants to be with me. Or get to know me. I’m just not someone you fall in love with.

„Yikes“, Eun Woo’s friend flinched. „Gotta give it to her - she does sound like a real human though.“, he drily remarked.

Eun Woo rolled his eyes in frustration. This shit was eating him up.

Even if he descended onto earth now and forgot about all your pain, he would never be able to get through to you. 

„Men really did a number on her, huh?“, his friend asked. 

„It’s what she wanted. Some drama to enjoy our love more. And drama she got…“, he explained sadly.

„So what are you going to do?“

Eun Woo averted his gaze back onto you, watching you from above as you cried and cried and cried. 

„Waiting for a miracle, I guess.“

„Aren’t you tired of waiting?“

„What else am I supposed to do?“, he snapped.

„The plan is already rigged, you said so yourself. Can’t you use that to your advantage and rig it further?“, his friend proposed.

Eun Woo thought for a second - could he really do that? Go against fate like that? 

Your sobs made his stomach churn once again, he had to act, no matter the consequences.

„Come with me“, he demanded as he left the room.

„Where are we going?“, his friend called after him.

„Rigging the fucking plan.“

After touring, all he wants is to do is see her.

The softness of the blanket wrapped around her keeps her warm on the chilly Friday night. The rain falling outside taps softly on the window. The moon shines brightly in the charcoal sky, slipping through the window and softly illuminating the room. The soothing smell of lavender wafts through the small apartment as the candle sitting on the coffee table burns.

He gazes at her from the doorway. She sits on the couch, peacefully looking out the window. She hadn't even heard him come in. She seems to be lost in thought, staring out the window. He smiles, knowing she was only in the living area this close to midnight to see him when he came home. He almost hated to interrupt and lose sight of her focused look.

"Penny for your thoughts?" He spoke softly so as to not startle her.

She turns her gaze from the window to where the voice came from. How long had he stood there, staring?

"My thoughts cost more than that. I have rent to pay." She teases him, letting out a chuckle.

He laughs. He missed this. He missed her. It had been too long. His schedule barely gives him time to breathe, let alone be home. To be with her—the love of his life. The woman who is so patient with both him and his schedule.

She gets up, tugging the blanket closer to her body, and walks over to him. It's late. She thinks. She assesses the dark rings under his eyes and his wet hair and clothes from the pouring rain outside. She can tell he's trying to hide it but he's shivering slightly.

"Go take a warm shower. Are you hungry? I can make you something to eat while you're in the shower. Then we can get some rest." The words rush out of her mouth as she discards the blanket she had wrapped around her. She uses the discarded blanket to wipe the rain drops that littered his face.

He stares at her while she dotes over him. Cute. She's always worried about him. She has never complained, just taken the initiative and cared for him.

"Don't worry about that, I ate on the plane." She nods to acknowledge his words but seems to be in another world.

"You're still going to take a warm shower." Her voice is strong. There was no changing her mind.

"The rain is coming down hard enough to be considered a pressure wash. I have to be clean already." He jokes but the stern look she gives him as she rolls her eyes tells him all he needs to know. Don't try me.

He concedes, knowing she would not allow him to ignore her request. He makes his way through her room and to the attached bathroom. Running the shower at the warmest temperature, he peels off his wet clothing and steps under the tepid spray of water.

While he is showering, she is warming up some food she had kept in her refrigerator. She wasn't sure when he would be home so she had yet to make anything for either of them to eat, but she wouldn't be telling him that.

He saunters into the kitchen, having noticed she wasn't in the bedroom when he exited the shower, hair wet and sticking to his forehead. He didn't bother putting on a shirt, knowing he wouldn't sleep in one anyway. Standing next to the bar, he waits for her to turn around, confused as to what she was doing.

She knows he is there but pays him no mind, continuing to gather food for him despite his assurance from before. Turning towards him and placing the meal on the countertop, she encourages him to sit down by motioning to a stool tucked under the bar.

Taking a seat on the stool, he sends her a tired smile. He had been awake for most of the plane ride, having not quite been on a set sleep schedule. The love he has for her swells inside of him as he realizes just how much she cares—how she missed him as much as he had missed her.

She lays a kiss on his cheek before sitting next to him, leaning her head on his shoulder as she rests her eyes—or at least she thought she would rest her eyes, waiting for him to finish eating. It doesn't take long for him to notice that he breathing has evened out and her body is slumping against his own.

Finishing the last bit of food, he looks down at her, her features are soft and he could see her eyelids twitch as her eyes flick around them. She's gorgeous. He carefully moves his body to lift her into his arms, carrying her to the bedroom.

He gently maneuvers her body so he can pull back the sheets and tuck her underneath them. She stirs but does not seem to be awake. Once she is safely tucked in bed, he turns to make his way back out of the room to clean up the dish he left on her bar. He doesn't make it far as she reaches out to grab his hand before mumbling out a soft, "Don't leave again."

His face falls, knowing she was awake enough to catch his arm yet sleepy enough to believe he would leave her immediately after coming home. Home. He has always stayed over at her place, yet never called it home. No. She was home. Not her apartment—not without her.

He slips under the covers and pulls her against him, muted words attempt to come out of his lips, "I won't ever leave you." He can't say that though. He knows he will have to leave on another tour again—knows he will rarely get time to see you between schedules. He feels as if he doesn't deserve you but knows you would tell him otherwise. Sighing, he squeezes her closer and closes his eyes. He feels nothing but content as he holds his entire world in his arms and falls asleep.

Y/N blinked, slightly stunned by the sudden shift. "Wait, are you seriously going to help me? You, the one who always says I should wait for things to happen naturally?"

"Desperate times call for desperate measures," Lily said with a wink. "Plus, you’re clearly head over heels, and you’ve been too busy staring at him to actually do something about it. Leave it to me. I’ll get the Marauders involved. They owe me a favor anyway."

Over the next few days, Lily set her plan into motion, gathering the Marauders for an impromptu meeting in the common room. Y/N had no idea what was going on, but she was already feeling the heat of anticipation in her chest. The Marauders—James, Sirius, Peter, and Remus—had always been close to her, but now that her feelings for Remus were growing, the thought of being around all of them was starting to make her feel a little self-conscious.

One evening, while they were all sitting by the fire in the common room, Lily subtly nudged her toward Remus. He was sitting on the other side of the room, a book in his lap, looking so effortlessly handsome that Y/N could barely keep her focus.

Lily’s plan was set into motion the very next evening. As Y/N walked into the common room, she found Remus lounging near the fire, reading a book. His hair was slightly messy, his glasses perched low on his nose, and his warm smile greeted her as she entered.

"Hey, Y/N," he said, looking up from his book. "How’s it going?"

"Good," she replied, her heart pounding in her chest. She hesitated for a moment before taking the seat beside him, her knee brushing his in the process. It wasn’t intentional—at least, not entirely—but the moment their legs touched, she could feel the heat spreading up her spine.

"Mind if I sit here?" she asked casually, trying to hide the way her stomach was doing flips.

"Of course not," Remus replied with a smile, not seeming to notice the nervous fluttering in her chest. He continued reading his book, but the proximity made Y/N acutely aware of every little movement he made, of the gentle rise and fall of his chest as he breathed, of the faint scent of the woods and parchment that always lingered around him.

"Y/N," Lily said from across the room, catching her attention with a pointed glance. She gestured subtly toward Remus, then to herself, as if signaling some silent code.

Y/N blinked, her heart pounding in her ears. What was Lily up to? Before she could question it, Sirius, who had been watching the whole thing with a grin, leaned toward James and whispered loudly enough for everyone to hear, "So, what do you think, James? Should we help these two out? I feel like we could, you know, nudge them in the right direction."

James immediately caught on. "Oh, absolutely. Time for a little friendly intervention."

Peter, who had been quietly observing the conversation from the corner, suddenly piped up. "Are we talking about Remus and Y/N? I think we can help. A few well-placed compliments, maybe some strategic distraction…"

Before Y/N knew what was happening, the Marauders had begun their campaign. James and Sirius started joking around with Remus, purposely steering the conversation toward how “amazing” Y/N was—her intelligence, her kindness, the way she could make the most mundane tasks feel fun. Meanwhile, Peter, being the expert in misdirection, kept Y/N distracted with casual small talk, occasionally giving her a teasing wink.

Every time one of them said something about her, Y/N’s heart skipped. She was blushing. She had to admit, their plan was working.

Finally, Remus glanced over at her, his brown eyes meeting hers with a soft, almost shy smile. "You know," he said, his voice low and warm, "I’ve been meaning to tell you something."

Y/N’s heart leapt into her throat. "What’s that?"

He hesitated for a moment, then chuckled softly. "I think I’ve been a little oblivious... But I do like spending time with you. A lot more than I’ve realized."

Y/N blinked. "Oh," she breathed, a smile tugging at her lips. "I think I like spending time with you too."

Sirius, from across the room, gave a thumbs-up, and James clapped dramatically. Peter, ever the strategist, even pretended to be busy so they could have the moment to themselves.

Remus, looking a little sheepish but pleased, finally leaned closer. "Would you maybe want to… go for a walk? You know, just the two of us?"

Y/N’s smile widened. "I’d love that."

As they stood up together, heading toward the door, Lily gave Y/N a wink, mouthing, “Mission accomplished.”

Y/N couldn’t help but laugh, feeling lighter than she had in weeks. Maybe it hadn’t been so hard after all. And thanks to her friends—especially the Marauders—Remus Lupin was no longer just her good friend.

The shopping mall wasn’t something you frequented that much. You were more into online shopping and when you did actually go, you always went to the same shops. Plus, crowds weren’t really your thing. It annoyed you that people didn’t really know how to walk through aisles without bumping into you. 

But there you were.

Nayeon, your best friend, had insisted you on going to the mall, blabbering about wanting to buy a new set of lingerie for her. She kept skipping through the different stores until she reached one of her liking. 

“Tell me, isn’t this cute?” she asked, grabbing a creme baby doll dress and holding her up over her chest. 

You smiled and nodded. “Yeah”

She huffed and left the baby doll back in its place. “You’ve said that about every single piece of clothing that I’ve shown you, Y/N” she pouted as she crossed her arms over her chest with a frown.

His eyes searched your face. “What?”
