Before we open contributor applications, the mods would like to answer questions raised through responses from the Interest Check and expand upon our carrd’s guidelines/FAQ.

If you are potentially considering applying for the zine as a contributor, please take the time to look over this post and read the carrd. 

Zine’s Themes: 

For our second zine, we decided to have a centralized theme for the overall project: investigation. Solving mysteries, puzzles, and problems are key elements of Remedy games. All pieces featured within the zine will focus on these ideas. 

The Oceanview is a connecting point between the Alan Wake and Control universes. It is a place of power individuals pass through on their way to somewhere else, so it’s had many guests over the years. However, pitches for the zine do not have to feature the Oceanview, they can involve different settings featured or referenced in these games, excluding the Oldest House. 

Interest Check Feedback

During the interest check, we received several common questions we would like to address:

Can we submit pitches related to Alan Wake? 

Yes, as both Alan Wake and Control both fall under the Remedy-verse, we want the zine to have a diverse spread of content featuring characters and themes from both games. 

Are Alan Wake 2 spoilers allowed? 

The zine will release a year after the first game, so we will be allowing content featuring spoilers. All pieces with spoilers will have a warning tag in the zine’s table of contents, allowing consumers to pick and choose what content to enjoy. 

Are meta/theory-crafting pitches allowed? 

No, the zine will only be featuring fanart and fanfiction. 

What about lore related documents such as dossiers/letters/case files etc? 

Yes. As with our previous zine, in-universe documentation is welcome so long as it fits the zine’s themes and criteria. 

Can I submit something which has already been posted to social media? 

No, all contributors must submit a new, original piece of content never shared before. 

Is there any specific content which will not be allowed in the zine? 

We will not be accepting typewritten, out of context manuscript pages. If a typewritten manuscript page from Alan happens to be one part of your overall story, that’s fine. 

No pieces featuring places found within the Oldest House. As much as we love the Astral Plane, the Quarry, and the Clocks Threshold, we want the zine to feature many of the other interesting settings within this universe!

All art pieces must be polished lineart or equivalent. We will not accept sketches. 

Pitch Process 

Please do NOT submit pitches that state “I’ll draw/write anything” – these will be automatically rejected. 

Please submit three detailed pitches. Include any characters or ships featured in the piece along with the general idea. Give us the elevator pitch.  

If you’re pitching a piece featuring shipping content, please state the overall plot of the piece. The mods will not be accepting stories that do not take into account the zine’s investigative themes. 

All art pieces will need to have a background. No negative white space will be allowed. 

The mods will be trying to diversify the zine’s content through the provided pitches. Of your three pitches, the mods will select what pitch to move forward with based on the zine’s tentative content spread, so please make sure these pitches are something you are passionate about and willing to create. 

Collaboration and the Creation Process

Remedy fans are a passionate bunch. Love for these games is shown in each and every creative work. And just like Remedy collaborates to bring us these amazing games, we are looking for that same dedication for the Oceanview Guestbook zine. 

We would like each of our applicants to feel comfortable collaborating with both the mods as well as their fellow contributors. We will be encouraging contributors to share WIPs with each other through more organized check-ins to receive feedback. With each phase of the creation process, the mods will provide detailed feedback and constructive critique with each individual contributor. 

Our primary mode of communication will be through Discord. The mods will be available should contributors need any assistance, to communicate any unforeseen circumstances, or to answer questions which may arise throughout the creation process. 

Final Notes

The mods are fans of the Remedy universe and love the games. We want to talk and create with fellow fans. This project is for the community, and we can’t underscore that enough. This is why our previous and next zine are digital and free. We don’t want to hide the fanworks behind a paywall. This unofficial project is made for fans by fans as a labor of love. 

We hope you’ll join us on this journey!

Okay, back to playing the game. I got Alpha build and I’m antsy to read all of it, so I can finally go to bed.

Hiiii Goodmorning!! (Or goodnight- not sure which it is for you lol) 😊 So, idk if you’ve answered this or not. I don’t think I saw it on the FAQ. But I wanted to inquire about the Briony fight scene. I know it isn’t completed and I think randomly generated, right? But it also says some factors are being looked at for potential outcomes. Well, I was wondering, what are the factors behind a higher chance of winning?? 😭😭😭I guess I’m a bit confused and…mayybbeee just a bit overwhelmed- I keep losing. Because my MC still holds 7 words of power and has been winning all the battles through strength(physique), magic, and nerves. All are in the 80s. Has 28% , 13% and 21% for the 3 magic types 47% for Swordsmanship 70s for Mind 80s for Wits Yet somehow can’t win a fight against Bri Bri- not only that, most of the powers are blocked off. I only had 3 available 🤔💭 But when I played just an hour prior, when most of my stats were low or untouched; not only were 5 of the magic options unlocked to use. But I won. Seems like Now that my stats are high, I can’t win for Kakin Hael. lol sorry for the long post, this fight just has me curious about how the generated outcome works and what exactly it’s using. If you can or want to answer, that is. If not, that’s okay. ❤️

Hi there, it looks like your magic types (Astral, Psionic, and Arcane) are quite low for this chapter! While the general magic stat is also very important, the different magical sub-schools are extremely important too: I'd recommend training in at least one of those on your days off, because a large part of the battles in the game check those for your chances of success! In addition, Briony is a fearsomehand-to-hand and sword fighter, so it would help a lot if you had a higher Swordsmanship stat (either through training or by purchasing a better sword earlier in the game). Also, having your real weapon in the arena, not killing Nathe (which makes Briony angrier and way likelier to go all-out against you), having a legendary version of your weapon, and how well you did in Nathe's fight and what your health is all factor into the odds of winning Briony's battle!

Some of my acquaintances apparently get themselves into trouble, so it's time to get witchy on main with another FAQ, this time in a favorite topic:

Curse-Breaking!!

Curse-breaking has 3 main parts: preparation, the actual breaking, and healing. It's a lot like treating a wound. First you wash the wound, then you apply medicine, and then you bandage it so no bacteria can infect it. Curse-breaking works the same way.

So, for example, a typical curse-breaker spell might start with cleansing the room with a selenite wand or incense, and then leaving out a bowl of salt to capture residual energy. You can do this by using elemental energy to burn out astral parasites, too. Then, you'll cast your spell. You can use the Sphere of Protection and change the wording to ask the elements to clear out and banish curses and negative energy, for example, or you can invoke an entity's help and protection. Then finally, the "bandaging" part. Do something that "proves" that you can't be harmed. Set up a ward or cast a protection spell, cleanse yourself, or carry a protective stone like celestite or obsidian.

The most critical part of curse-breaking though is to understand that a big component of a curse is *psychological.* A curse, hex, whatever *cannot* affect you unless there is already a weakness there to exploit. In other words, a curse can't affect you without your say-so, consciously or otherwise (almost always otherwise). So simply put, you need to start and finish by taking your permission away. Start by *knowing* that any curses against you are no longer effective, and end by *knowing* that all curses against you have been lifted. In some cases, just knowing that a curse is there and saying "This curse is not effective against me" can be enough to break it.

Of course, truthfully, the best way to break a curse is really, y'know, to avoid getting cursed in the first place. That said - curses come in many different forms, and many of them are actually not cast on purpose. Curses can be caused by someone wishing ill on you - literally or metaphorically - or by someone thinking badly of you very hard. Fortunately, those curses tend to be weak and mostly harmless, and will often clear up on their own after a time. However, just like with a physical cut, you can speed the healing process by taking care of yourself and following some magical first-aid... And you can also prevent anything worse happening.

checked your FAQ before asking but i apologize if you’ve been asked this before! i saw that you make your game assets in firealpaca, what brush(es?) and canvas size do you use? i got my start doing digital art in firealpaca but for whatever reason it had never occurred to me that it could be used to make game assets, that’s cool as hell!

Haha, depends on the game! I use the pixel brushes and the regular pen brush with antialiasing turned off. For Astral Guard, it's done in multiples of 16 so it adheres to the grid of RPGMaker 2003. For Susan Taxpayer, everything is contextual to the graphic. So really the canvas size should be whatever fits your needs the best!

House of Sephiroth FAQ and Lore

What is House of Sephiroth?

House of Sephiroth is a romantic tragicomedy with hints of mystery. It focuses on an amnesiac darling (called the HoS Darling) and her deep connection to the six Yandere versions of Sephiroth: OG FF7/Jenova!Sephiroth, Dissidia Sephiroth, C.C. Sephiroth (Crisis Core: Nibelheim Incident), FF7R Sephiroth, Female Sephiroth and AC Sephiroth.

A divine force has transported the Darling and the Sephiroths to a peculiar  house in a mysterious astral dimension. By the grace of the divine power, all Sephiroths must use the house as a base of operations to fulfill their aspirations and to interact with their darling.

As the darling plunges into a series of exhilarating, disturbing and (sometimes) heartwarming adventures, will she be able to uncover her true identity while surviving six crazed Sephiroths holding a deep, twisted love for her?

Please note: while HoS is a somewhat silly Yandere AU, it will contain Dead Dove: Do Not Eat content. Prominent kinks include, but are not limited to: Non-Con/Dubcon, Femdom, Breeding, Edge Play, Fear Play, Futanari, Size Difference, Mommy/Daddy Kink, Nursing/Lactation Kink, Impregnation, Pregnancy, Monster Pregnancy, Rough Sex, Mind Break, Teratophilia/Monster sex, etc... What’s the Story Behind the Sephiroths? 

Five of the Sephiroths were pulled from alternate realities where they achieved their goals and were ready to start their takeover of the cosmos. C.C. Sephiroth is the only exception to this, as he was taken prematurely, during the Nibelheim Incident, and suddenly placed in this astral dimension. This is a big reason why his mommy issues intensified.

All Sephiroths claim the darling as their own, and she can feel the sincerity of their words, yet she cannot confirm them... As the Sephiroths clashed with each other, they knew they had to collaborate and coexist if they wanted to continue their goals and remain in this peculiar home that confined their darling. After many heated negotiations, they agreed to share the darling, alternating who had priority each week. 

They may coexist for the moment, but each Sephiroth is covertly plotting to get rid of the others, take the darling for themselves and become the master of all realities... 

Will Other Sephiroths Appear in the AU?

It’s possible, as recurring guests! It is essential for them to stand out in their own role through a distinguishable look and personality, rather than easily incorporated into the five main Sephiroths. e.g. Brave Exvius Sephiroth will be under 7R Sephiroth, Last Order Sephiroth will be under C.C.

Current recurring guests are KH Sephiroth, WoFF Sephiroth, Theatrhythm Sephiroth.

The six main Sephiroths and the Darling will always be the ensemble (main) cast.

Gangbang requests/prompts will always be welcomed and beloved!

Will Other FF Characters Appear in the AU? 

For now? No. Perhaps in the future, as guest stars. Don’t be afraid to share some ideas though! 

If you have a keen eye for detail, there are lots of references and important themes referencing other FF7 characters like Cloud, Aerith and etc... As they left an impression on the darling in her past life.

What is “The House”? 

A House, haha. But to give a little more information: It’s an ethereal, mysterious house situated on a (not totally) desolate world, within a peculiar astral dimension. There are mysteries within the large house the Sephiroths and the Darling have yet to uncover. 

The world itself is mostly empty, but there are occasional, hostile lifeforms and exotic nature that lie beyond the house...

Are The Sephiroths Confined to “The House”?

The Sephiroths can leave and return as they please, but the Darling is often stuck within its boundaries. The Sephiroth she’s with can allow her to join to him now and then, but eventually the mystical house will call for her to return.

The Sephiroths go out to dominate and annihilate any other worlds they could find, in this dimension and others. Though they are often gone for these endeavors, they eventually return to the house, drawn by their darling, their alternative selves, the captivating mystery of this strange house, and the world its in...

As the AU progresses, the ethereal house will slowly reveal its secrets and the stories of its past.

I want to put my community on the compendium but we have an application process. Is this okay?

Yes! Just note somewhere in your application that's a requirement. The only thing that is mandatory for the Compendium is that you must be open to new members or have a public-facing/accessible facet. There's no point advertising a community if no one can join it in some way!

I want to put my community on the compendium but I only have x number of members —

Also totally okay! People don't start with large communities. Activity is a must but, whether your server has two or two thousand members, if you're looking for new people to join, I'd love to help you find people.

I want to put my community on the compendium but I worry its too niche?

Okay, and? If your Eorzean Fishing Alliance has four members but you roleplay every second weekend, I still want to know about it.

What resources/communities can I add if I'm not the owner of them?

Mutual consent is extremely important to me, so anything that isn't a large-scale community OR a publicly accessible resource must be endorsed by the owner/admin/moderators in order to be added to the compendium. I operate under the assumption that a resource posted to a public space (tumblr, googledocs, youtube, etc) is open to all. A large-scale community is one with a significant member count or openly advertises itself as being accessible to everyone for whatever purpose it serves. If in doubt, please get in touch with me. I'm happy to contact your community owners for you!

How active does a community need to be?

If you find a community has not been active in about two/three months, send me a message and I'll take a look at it. Communities have ebbs and flows, especially event spaces that may take hiatuses depending on member interest/life events. I'm not strict in my implementation provided a space isn't dead. If a link or anything is broken, absolutely contact me about that.

Akrasia has met its end, so heres a quick FAQ with a few questions you might have about it !! (Minor spoilers if you havent finished the ficc below the break!)

What does Akrasia mean, and why did you name the fic that?

Akrasia - The state of mind in which someone acts against their better judgment through weakness of will.

I came across the word while doomscrolling pinterest while I was writing Akrasia. Fun fact, the original name for Akrasia was actually Ice Shards, Mask Fragments. But Akrasia as a word stuck with me, and the more I thought about it, the more I realized that the word really suited Sampo in the fic, and his constant back and forth with himself over his feelings for Gepard. So yeah, I renamed the fic.

Was Akrasia ever going to have a happy ending?

Nope. From the very beginning, Akrasia was meant to have an ambigious/bitter ending. It felt fitting, to me at least, because of Sampos nature, and the whole angle I took with his character.

You can actually find various hints about the ending throughout the fic, mostly in Sampos dialog and thoughts. I tried (key word tried) to write him with a flighty sort of air around him, a kinda sense of doom from the start. Sampo knew what would have to happen the moment it started.

What happened after Akrasia?

Up to intepretation! Personally, I think Gepard didnt end up joining the Astral Express, instead asking them to just keep him up to date if they ran into Sampo, up until the time the epilogue happens. Reverse Serval situation, because he is honorbound and Gepard is a military man at heart. He knows where his duty lies. But like I said, its really up to you guys and what you wanna think happened.

WHERE IS LYNX ?!

So I started writing Akrasia the month of Star Rails release, (MAY 2023 TF?!), before we knew anything about Lynx. Because I didnt want to mischaracterize her, I ended up just not writing her explicitly

Will there be any more Akrasia fics?

Yes, actually! I made an Akrasia series on Ao3 for a reason. Im planning on doing a few DanCae shots to compliment the Starch7th ones already there, as well as a few side stories for the GePo/SamPard moments that were in passing in the main story. Things like missing scenes, more sexier times, and elaboration into characters I didnt really get to explore in the base story. But Akrasia itself is done and dusted. All fics pertaining to its small lil universe will be under different names.

How old is everyone in Akrasia?

I wrote and percieved Gepard and Sampo to be in their early 30s, maybe extremely late 20s. Seele and Bronya are mid 20s, Serval is mid 30s and Natasha is late 30s early 40s. As for the Trailblazers, well we know Dan Heng is probably far older then we think, Caelus and Stelle are.. weird, and March cant fucking remember. So I wrote them all witu the idea of mentally mid 20s.

Why are Stelle and Caelus in Akrasia?

cause I wanted them to be. Like, genuinely I just didnt want to choose and I wanted both Starch and DanCae so yeah. I just said their both here.

If you want the internal lore reason, the Stelleron was unstable enough that it ended up needing another vessel to contain all of its power. So Stelle and Caelus are just really weird twins, basically. They share a level of physical connection outside of looks as well, (ie, the matching scars from cocolia) but only to extreme , permanent damage. They also trade off who uses the lance and the baseball bat at their leisure.

Why are there some plot inconsistencies ?? (they bug me the author alot)

Nah theres actually a reason for it. Akrasia originally was written to be aroind 10k words long, and clearly thats not what fucking happened.

So i ended up going back and editting alot of scenes, removing one scene entirely that actually was pretty important and i tried to make sure i caught every error but- well yeah i missed some.

If your curious about said scene, well- Remember the drunk Sampo scene? Yeah originally they had a drunk hook up and that was the main catalyst for the story. I ended up completely scrapping the scene and changing it around as it became more of a slowburn and the scene felt more and more out of place with the story i wanted to tell.

Hell in the original manuscript for the fic they never even got together, so theres that -

Will there be a sequel to Akrasia?

maybe? Im not planning to have one but the possibility is there, though im not sure what it would entale. For now, just indulge yourself in the side stories.

ok can you elaborate on the act of fucking a tulpa I must ask. for a friend. I mean research purposes. I mean no reason. I mean

alright so there are two main ways you can fuck a tulpa: on the astral plane or using a host. u can do either one whether or not it's your tulpa or not

for the astral plane version, YOU will need to know and be confident in your ability to astral project, ESPECIALLY if the tulpa isn't yours since you dont have that link between your minds to make it a bit easier

for the host version, if it's someone else's tulpa: the tulpa must be able to front and the host must be able to let them (and agree)

if its your tulpa: you two must be fairly decent at co-fronting

astral plane is cool because you get to actually see the tulpa's real form, and if you're able to manipulate the astral plane in any way it could lead to some very fun applications. plus if either of you are into a kink that is impractical, dangerous, or impossible to enact in the real world, you CAN do it here. downside is tactile sensation is a tossup so you'll have to mirror stuff in your body

using a host body is cool because you don't have to concentrate on astral projection and you can just focus on the sex. if its both of you sharing your body it could be very cool for your tulpa to experience how your body feels to touch and arouse, especially if you two have different sets of genitalia

a: for me personally i have to really concentrate and even then it's a whisper of a phantom sensation. it doesnt feel like much but is honestly VERY cool even if its not enough tactile sensation to arouse. but then again i'm not The Best at the astral plane method

A: While I consider it something of a placeholder, Deathless refers to one of the most important facets of the narrative: death is nonexistent. The inhabitants of comné cannot die, though they can still experience and suffer through death-like violence.

Q: Who are the main characters of Deathless?

Billy the Stingray Merman (Fast Track)

Billy is a 56 year old Stingray Merman, he uses he/him pronouns. If he were a human, he would be around 32. Appearance: Billy has dark blue hair, almost a navy color, with silver reflections in the sunlight. His face is masculine, with a small nose and eyes. His eyes are green with a dark circle around the iris. He has scales around his hairline and his neck, with small face tattoos that appear like freckles. His teeth are sharp and he occasionally will chew on his lips with them when bored or nervous. Past his hips, he looks like a stingray, with flaps and a poisonous stinger which is long enough for him to defend himself if he needs to. His scales are a dark blue color, almost black, with the occasional silver accent. Personality: Billy is a very relaxed spirit who doesn’t like to make many concrete plans, he is very spontaneous and goes with the flow. Sometimes he can be seen as apathetic by other people because he does not really understand strong emotions, and he rarely gets angry. Daily Life:

His days are fairly easy. Billy is currently unemployed and spends his days doing whatever he feels like doing. He often can be found helping people fish in Sector 10 of City, or eating raw fish or seafood. He enjoys fish, seafood, water and harpoons. He generally dislikes flowers, cats, strong smells, and house plants. (He doesn’t understand them, and thinks they should be put outside.) He likes eating clams, oysters and raw fish, and dislikes most vegetables, and any type of cheese. Billy also enjoys listening to folk and bohemian music when the mood strikes him. Family: He has family, though due to his species, is not close to them and hasn’t spoken to them in years. He moved out with his sister once they were old enough, because his sister was a skilled hunter. They soon went their separate ways. Companionship: Billy is a Fast Track spirit, which means he will only be posted for about a month unless you all are interested in speaking with him for longer. He expects to live with his companion and their family and would prefer someone at least slightly experienced in spirit work. He would also prefer his companion like to spend time around water, even better if they live or work near or on the water.
