Success for Aston Martin at the Spa 24 Hours courtesy of Comtoyou Racing! The British marque hadn't won the Belgian classic since 1948, and hadn't won a 24-hour race outright since 1959, which was the year the legendary Carroll Shelby won Le Mans with Roy Salvadori in a DBR1 (pictured above at Le Mans Classic in 2018).

Aston Martin have had success at Le Mans since, winning the GT class four times with the Prodrive-built DBR9 and Vantage GTE (pictured above at Le Mans in 2013, a tragic event for the team as Aston driver Allan Simonsen driver died in an accident early in the race). But in the races where GT3 cars are the headline, they have typically struggled to beat the powerhouse brands from Germany and Italy. Seen below is a predecessor of the new Spa winner: the 2013 V12 Vantage GT3, raced at the Nürburgring 24 Hours (pictured at Le Mans Classic in 2018).

Aston Martin Racing will give the new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 its Nürburgring Nordschleife race debut in round eight of the VLN Endurance Championship, a four-hour race which takes place on 6 October.

The event marks the first occasion the car, driven by three-time Le Mans class winner Darren Turner (GB) and 2016 Nürburgring 24 Hours winner Maxime Martin (BEL), will have been matched against GT3 opposition.

The Vantage will race in full GT3 specification but is not yet homologated, so will run in the VLN’s unique SPX class and hence will be subject to mandatory pitstops that are longer than those for the SP9 (standard GT3) entrants. The car is now at an advanced stage of development prior to its March 2019 homologation date, and the purpose of entering this race is to give Aston Martin Racing vital information as to its performance and durability in race conditions on what is considered the most challenging racing environment.

The Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 will be joined by two Nürburgring-based AMR Performance Centre prepared Vantages that will both feature works drivers. Turner will switch between the GT3 and a V12 Vantage he will share with German drivers Jürgen Kroner and Marco Müller. While Aston Martin Lagonda high-performance test driver Chris Goodwin and Aston Martin Racing test and reserve driver Ross Gunn will share a Vantage GT4 as they begin the process of gaining their full VLN licenses for future programmes.

It’s a great honour for me to be first to race the new Vantage GT3 at the Nürburgring. The Nordschleife is like a spiritual home for GT racing so to be there at the start of a new programme is really special. It’s a circuit that presents a huge challenge for the cars and it’s where we need to be racing to find and extend the limits of the Vantage GT3. It’s always great to be a part of the early stages of a development process, and the fact that we are already taking it racing says a lot about its potential and the confidence we have in it. The early signs are that it is going to be race winner in the not too distant future. — Darren Turner

Last time we were there with the old car (the V12 Vantage GT3) we finished P4 so I can’t wait to find out what the new car can do. It’s a great challenge and being part of the development of the new car is awesome. In terms of what to expect, we have some basis of understanding from the FIA World Endurance Championship GTE version, so it will be interesting to see how the new car will react to this kind of track. There is so much going on at the Nordschleife with its mix of high and low speed corners and all the bumps. It is definitely the toughest track in the world. If the car is quick there, we can be sure it is fast everywhere.

Gran Turismo Sport Reveals its Full List of Launch Cars

Gran Turismo Sport will launch with 162 cars. The figure is a bit underwhelming especially considering Forza Motorsport 7 has over 700 vehicles on its roster. And there are some automakers noticeably missing from the list, such as Bentley, Chrysler, Fiat, and Lotus. But Porsche does make its debut in the Gran Turismo series, with gamers getting access to the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, 911 RSR, Cayman GT4 Clubsport, and 919 Hybrid race car. The V8 Vantage is first powered by a 4.3 V (4300cc) square 32-valve V8, 380 hp (280 kW) at 7300 rpm and 302 N·m at 5000 rpm. Models produced after 2008, however, had a 4.7-liter V 420 hp (313 kW). The AMR-Pro has many designs features both the Vantage GT3 as well as the GTE racing cars, including a massive rear wing, larger front splinters, and exposed carbon fiber. The AMR-Pro also offers unique styling as black mesh grilles and unique black wheels. Only seven Vantage Pro AMRs will be built.

In addition to the specific packages above, all variants of the Vantage range are offered with a wide range of personalisation options, especially inside where different colored shades – and even seems – can be chosen, complement each other, and contrast the body. Vantage GT8 to Take on Bathurst 12 Hours 

Aston Martin’s Vantage GT8 will make its second competitive outing this weekend, as the marque’s special edition takes on Australia’s famous Bathurst 12-hours GT race at Mount Panorama.

Having competed in last year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours in Europe, the close-to-production specification Vantage GT8 will be operated by Aston Martin customer team R-Motorsport this weekend in the event’s invitational class.

With R-Motorsport’s regular drivers Florian Kamelger (I) and Markus Lungstrass (D) on-board, Aston Martin Racing works driver Darren Turner (GB) completes the line-up.

Set to the backdrop of the Australian outback, the race will feature a further two Aston Martin racers in the 95-strong field.

Sharing a garage with the Vantage GT8 will be R-Motorsport’s second entry - an Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 - piloted by Andreas Baenziger (CH), Jan Struve (DN) and Peter Leemhuis (AU) in the GT4 class.

Fighting for overall honors, local customer team Miedecke Motorsport will take to Mount Panorama with their V12 Vantage GT3. The Australian trio of George Miedecke, Ashley Walsh and Tony Bates are expected to be amongst the front runners in what is the strongest entry list yet seen in the annual classic.

The Bathurst 12 Hours begins at 18:30 GMT on Saturday, February 4, 2017.
