Time to shit on Bakugou

I've seen so many takes of "oh Endeavor is meant to be a parallel showing what Bakugou could have become if he never improved"

Where once again the actions show he has not fucking changed.

Also, why wouldn't he want to be like Endeavor? The guy by the end of the series retired as the number 1 hero, is fucking rich, tons of support, including the now HPSC president Hawks, Deku indirectly calls Natsuo unkind for not forgiving him, Rei is seen pushing his electric wheelchair even with three young able-bodied heroes right fucking there. Everyone who criticizes either of them is always casted as wrong end of story

Shoto is for some reason his friend, just like Deku and the Bakusquad, despite the fact that he treats all of them like shit. And the only punishments he ever get is either shared despite the other person not doing shit to deserve it (He forced Deku to fight him, and Shoto was literally being attacked by Isasa), or oh he's not the number one hero because he's just that mean to the press

The narrative never lined up with Bakugo, in that nobody ever responded to him naturally as their characters should have.

How they should have responded based on their own personalities and beliefs.

Stain, Dabi, Aizawa, kirishima, Mina, Iida, Shoto or even ochako.

All of them should have had big issues throughout the series with Bakugo for many reasons.

And even if one ignores all of this and focuses strictly on Bakugo, the delivery on his personal "growth" never really culminated in much real change either.

Because the final chapter shows he's still in the same place as he was during the provisional license exam, his attitude not being great with the civilians he's saving/protecting.

He was failed in the exam for this attitude and skated by through the make-up test.

(By being able to calmly talk to a single kid once I guess?)

Then nearly a decade later, he's still doing the same thing! 😆

It's kind of ridiculous when you look at all of it, like: "Where were we going with this??"

hi you are cool, what was your art-learning process like? how did you find your current style?

hey, ahhhh ty!!!

off the bat i want to say i went to art school so i'm not a self-taught artist. i learned foundation stuff there and i still study art in this traditional, academic way in which i read a bunch of art textbooks and try to apply those words to my art

for my current style, the start of things was i saw the first spider-verse movie and wanted to emulate that but for dc characters. and i did that privately for a year or 2 until i made this account

but the driving factor is that i suck at line art and i realized that pretty early on. so instead of trying to lvl up my line art, i dumped all my skill points into color and shape instead. then i realized i suck at anatomy so i focused on backgrounds.

that combo is what you are currently seeing as my style. colors, shape, backgrounds. i've completely given up on line art but i do want to work on anatomy and characters more

my prof said that personal style comes from weaknesses and how you deal with your weaknesses. thinking about it in that way relieved a lot of pressure bc i have plenty of weaknesses, weaknesses galore! and instead of hating myself for my artistic weaknesses, ive been using them as my guiding light for drawings

Headcanons

Athena always got annoyed whenever she saw Hermes hanging around Apollo, especially during 'her' time with him. She's a competitive person, after all. Quit eating up her time!

Apollo got Athena to play the flute again - however, she only plays it around him.

He also taught her how to play the harp. Why the harp? idk, Athena would just look very poised playing a harp

Their first argument was over prophecy - Athena was experimenting with some pebbles for prophecy and Apollo got upset about it and complained to Zeus, who told Athena to leave prophecy alone.

Subtle bonding over being Daddy's Favorite and how that isolated Athena immediately and over time with Apollo.

Athena based her own parenting style off of Zeus's - the only parental figure she has. Apollo based his off his mother's.

The ~PARALLELS~

Surprisingly, their conversations can be like:

Apollo: Athena, NO!

Athena: Athena, YES!

Athena quietly felt bad after the Olympian Rebellion when she saw Apollo's mortal punishment - but she was too self-persevering to think on it for long.

she still snuck him extra ambrosia dessert when he returned and listened to him as he told her about how cruel Laomedon had been

They have friendly arguments over who's city is better - Sparta, or Athens. Athena's mood, however, lowers if Ares is within earshot. Then it turns into a yelling match between the two war gods with an awkward Apollo standing Right There.

Arts and crafts sessions - weaving, painting, usually ends with somebody (Athena) covered in paint and somebody (Apollo) tied in thread.

They both have "Can Use The Aegis" Privileges from Zeus - Athena uses them more often, Apollo has used it exactly once during The Trojan War

Apollo gave Athena the cold shoulder after The Trojan War for helping Achilles kill Hector. Athena tried to tell herself that it didn't matter he wasn't speaking to her - she didn't need friends, after all! - but when she saw how he would speak with Dionysus, Hermes, Artemis, and even - bleh! - Ares over her...it made her stomach twist in ways she never thought it could

She used Orestes's trial as a way to get back into Apollo's good graces - she really did believe Orestes valid for killing his mother (it was on Apollo's orders, after all) but if it came with the perk of Apollo's icy-cold shoulder melting? *zips lips*

As Artemis and Apollo slowly drifted apart, Athena gladly stepped in and started taking up more of Apollo's usual Artemis time - something he thought Artemis wouldn't notice, but she did.

(this, of course, leads to some stink-eyes between Athena and Artemis. platonic love triangle beloved)

Athena is the only one who suspects that the "flaying Marsyas alive" thing was a hoax - she was the one who put the curse on the flute, after all. But she never sensed the death of the one who picked it up.

When Rome came around, and Athena morphed into Minerva, it put Apollo off-kilter. He didn't quite know who this was anymore - sure, she was still the craft goddess he messed around with, and was a heck of a lot more interested in poetry, music, and medicine now, but...she just wasn't quite the Athena he knew.

He became more worried when the raging began. Minerva would flicker into Athena, and Apollo's heart would leap - she's back! she's okay! she's still here! - but then drop as all Athena would do is scream bloody vengeance upon Rome, and he realized that he was right.

Minerva wasn't the Athena he knew...but neither was the one before him.

When his fellow gods' Greek/Rome halves melded together after the fall of the Roman Empire, he was particularly worried about how that would affect Athena - and for a while, it seemed like nothing had.

(Though strangely she was suddenly interested in having kids. Not that there's anything wrong with that, he just never thought Athena would want to be a mom. She never said anything of the sort to him before...)

Then she sent her first child to retrieve the Athena Parthenos. They didn't return. She sent another. Same story. Over and over. Over and over. Apollo watched as Athena kept sacrificing her children for that damn statue the Romans stole.

Apollo tried to talk to her, to knock some sense into her, but nothing worked. Not until they moved all across Europe, and she finally stopped (for now).

In the modern day, they like to visit museums, art galleries, and theaters. Dionysus used to join them up until his punishment.

Athena attends every concert/party Apollo puts on. Partly because she wants to, and partly to flip the bird at Artemis, who rarely shows up.

Manwhore Manipulate Manslaughter. That's it that's the post.

While it's widely believed that Artemis does a lot of damage control for Apollo when their father cracks down on him - and she does - Athena is another major player in the game. (see: the Parthenon in Blood of Olympus - Athena being the only one to (covertly) defend Apollo, while Jason is the only one to openly defend him. Two underrated people, these two are.)

Why she can't openly defend him? It's because she knows Zeus sweats in his shoes ahem. becomes...concerned when his two favorite, and Very Powerful children form an alliance.

While she was unable to prevent Apollo's third mortality punishment, Athena believed whole-heartedly the entire time that he would return. He had to. He was Apollo, he was her friend, her brother, and he couldn't just leave her by herself die. So when Hermes made that betting pool? She betted on Apollo's success. Partly to gloat to the Council about being right, partly to throw the failed bet into Hermes's face, and partly because she liked winding Ares up.

I also firmly believe Athena was doing some deux ex machina on Apollo's behalf throughout the series. Artemis couldn't get away with it, sure, she had Zeus's eagle eye on her - but Athena? Why would Zeus ever consider her as a possible person to disobey him? Why I never-

The nod she gave him in The Tower of Nero is her equivalent of a bone-crushing hug.

Athena helped Apollo write his story with Calliope's help - they made two versions: the heavily censored version they gave to Zeus for him to parade around, and another, secret version - the one Apollo has in his library, the one Athena has in hers.

Post One - Post Two

So Ilyrae is a far travler sun elf from Evermeet that comes from a specific part of it that really puts emphasis on the "You're not Actually an adult until you're 100-something, because to be an adult you need to have the lived experiences of one. As a result you should go travel the world and experience all that it has to offer, and theoretically when you come back you'll be worldly (:"

Ilyrae is somehow both incredibly neurotic and paranoid, and willing to take the dumbest, most insane course of actions, because the logic makes sense to them even if it doesn't to anyone else. They wander into the underdark, alone, because they're like. I'm a wizard protégée. I can defend myself. (And the worst part is, given the next series of event's, they're most right) and, after Nymryn fails to kill them, Ilyrae essentially holds them at wand point and is like "I am lost. You will guide me," And Nymryn, who is kind of a lame putz and doesn't actually liiiike fighting is like "Yes I will do that Anything you say " And then ends up spending the next 90+ years traveling with them (Even outside of the underdark)

Small side tangent to give added context for how their relationship grows like it does. But another big thing about their relationship is that I'm playing out Elvish as a language as a sister language to deep drow. They have juuuuust enough in common that you can fair in having a conversation between the two of them, but have evolved far enough that a lot of words have changed meanings. Deep Drow specifically has a lot of hierarchical language built into it (For example, male drow have words that female drow would never use, there are pronouns that by nature of using them imply the user to be lesser than the other person and vice versa) meanwhile elvish has evolved to be even more neutral on a lot of things then it was back in the day. So Ilyrae starts talking and Nymryn is like. "What the fuck are you doing with your voice."

Second fun fact. Despite traveling on the surface for 80+ Years, Nymryn's common is rough because him and Ilyrae spend most of their time speaking in elvish. Passable. But rough.

Third thing I have in mind with them: Human's would see how long they've been together and be like "Oh thats impressive, why haven't you gotten married yet?" But by elven standards I think their relationship is clocked as the emotional equivalent of two highschool sweethearts getting married immediately out of highschool. It will work out between them but they're both going to grow and change drastically as people in the process.

Anyway. Foundation of their relationship established. By the time Enclave comes back into the picture, Ilyrae and Nymryn are already engaged. And they're constantly just kind of saying shit like

Ilyrae, quietly: ... I think you're having difficulties because you're a whore and kind of moron.

Nymryn: I - Well. Yeah. But! Ah! At least I'm a loyal whore.

Ilyrae: That's true. You are. *under their breath and kind of exasperated* And I suppose both of these things benefit me greatly.

And she's contemplating the morality of killing again as a result of it.

Personality wise, Ilyrae is kind of a difficult asshole to be around. They have the Wizard Arrogance Personality flaw, can be a bit unpredictable, have trouble expressing their thoughts at all, let alone in a way that makes sense to other people, and has a very dry sense of humor that isn't to everyone's taste. It's just. Y'know. IS to Nymryn's taste, as he thinks this is all kind of hilarious, even when it's being turned on him.

On the kinder aspects of their personality, they are someone that cares very deeply about the people they choose to keep in their life, they don't take offense to a lot of things, and they're willing to humor a lot of really dumb horseshit. Nymryn is like "Hey I had a dream I think I need to go back to the underdark (I don't want to do this it really scares me there)" and Ilyrae is just like "...." Sighs "I don't want to either. Lets go."

So the TL;DR of their relationship: The high elf is scarier than the drow, Nymryn is marrying rich at 18 (I forgot to mention this. Ilyrae's family is loaded) and yet still supports theft. Fortunately, Ilyrae is okay with crime.

I think two things

One

They're fiction, and are a lot more sympathetic than a lot of real people who face no consequences

Two

What the fuck were they supposed to do? Seriously what?

Your thoughts

Anyone who says things like that, likely hasn't had to (actually) fight for anything in their lives.

Saying that "the Lov's actions can't be justified" or that "their pasts don't justify their actions", can only be saying that from a place of assumed moral superiority and general comfort.

People who think like that in such rigid, self-righteous mental stances are usually-

A. The first to go back on their beliefs when things get tough.

B. The first to lose everything they have because they refuse to compromise on what they believe is right.

Because it is the truth, that the Lov didn't have any other options but to fight as hard as they could for their right to live.

They didn't get to choose how they were born or the course their lives took as children, so they could only try to cut out an existence from the hand they were dealt.

To destroy hero society, to even have a chance at a better life than being left to die (shigaraki and Dabi) and/or chased away to die (Toga and Spinner).

It's something very important to remember that while completely "destroying everything" isn't the right answer to what the Lov was looking for -

- Doing the "right thing" in their circumstances wasn't going to get them anything but suffering and death, all because of people (the bnha civilians and a number of heroes) who couldn't care less about them.

Anything good that happened in bnha's future (wether it's really true/makes sense or not), is thanks to the Lov's existence, at least 50% or more.

The Lov was never "evil", they were mostly right.

Also it's kind of hilarious that shonen fans say this stuff sometimes, they have to be either younger or just getting into manga/anime in general.

Because:

Orochimaru is chilling with the leaf village parents.

Frieza is teaming up with Goku to save the universe and getting back to conquering worlds.

Mayuri from bleach... enough said.

Patolli (the fake Licht) the elf from black clover, for a more modern example of a sympathetic shonen villain doing terrible things and still living despite that.

Villains who have done far worse and still got better endings.

First of all, I do think that Artemis and Meg could/would get along. They share similar traits and Apollo even mistook Meg for Artemis in The Hidden Oracle at first.

However, I do think there would be...clucks tongue how should I say it? Tension? Yes, tension.

Why?

Well, we all know Meg would clock the whole Zeus=Nero thing and the common consensus in the ToA fandom is that Artemis is unaware to an extent of the abuse Apollo has gone through - I say to an extent because there's no way it's strictly under wraps, especially with how long it's been going on for.

Nevertheless, Artemis is unaware of it and even (accidently) contributes to the whole 'reenforcing of abuse' with the nagging/lecturing she gives Apollo (see: BoO scene).

And Meg, while she does criticize Apollo, she wouldn't be a fan of that. And she Would Not hold her tongue, leading to a very interesting dynamic/potential conversation between her and Artemis.

Meg's all like "you're literally siding with a fucking tyrant over your own brother?!" and Artemis is like "I'm doing what I can to protect him!" Meg snorts and is like "Some 'protecting' you've done lately!"

I can see this argument having nearly the same end results as my fic Lamentation of a Sister does.

With Artemis realizing she's done a Major fuckup and Meg's like 0_0 because she's had to deal with one (1) dramatic, self-pitying god and now there's another.

How is your Utena watch doing? What do you think of the characters? Who intrigues you the most?

It’s going pretty well so far! I honestly had no idea what Utena was even about before I started watching the show, outside of some vague ideas about Utena and Anthy, and how many of the people working on the show worked on the 90s Sailor Moon anime. I’m going in pretty blind, but I do like the general feel of the show. I find’s surreal nature almost comparable to how it felt reading the Oz books a few years back and while writing some of my fanfiction (mainly in the parts involving animals).

Utena is pretty cool as a protagonist. There’s a trend in a lot of anime I watch where protagonist tend to be greatly exaggerated and sometimes feel like they’re over-acting/reacting to situations, but I don’t get that impression from Utena. She’s not exactly a brooding kind of character, even if she has good reason to be (I mean, her parents did die when she was little), but she has this temperament that I like in protagonists. She clearly tries to be optimistic about things, but there are a lot of moments where the plot is okay with her just observing things happening around her without interrupting them too much. I’m not sure if that makes any sense, but that’s how I feel.

Outside of her and Anthy, I find that my favorite episodes tend to revolve around Nanami and whatever she gets caught up in. The one with the cow bell and the egg are some of my favorite “filler” episodes in years. The incest subtext with Touga is… weird… but I’m told it’s going somewhere with that, outside of just being a weird bit.

Hope this was a sufficient answer. Sorry it took a while to get to, I’ve been busy the past few days.
