got a few requests to show timelapses and my process so here's one for this drawing. not the smoothest example but probably the most realistic in terms of how a drawing goes

well time to explain this

first i do a value block-in in which i lay out the composition with 3 values- light, mid, dark. knew i wanted the bg to be lighter and the characters to be darker and the scribble was just to confirm it will look alright (1). i usually don't do a sketch unless i'm not confident in something - and in this case i changed dick's pose 3 or 4 times and none of them really worked. so gave up on guessing and did a sketch to check a new pose. also did a wash of bg color that sets the pallette (2). then i block in colors. decided to change bruce's pose too during this stage bc i drew bruce in the same pose last drawing and didn't want a repeat (3)

then i render and detail. that's most of the drawing process. i'll usually come to a point when i have to pull my work from procreate to photoshop to do lighting and color touchups + effects. stuff like level adjustments, color balance, blurring things.

image on the left was the procreate export. and then the final image on right

and that's it. the line between stages are blurry but it keeps everything flexible for a long time (like changing bruce's cape up to the last moment of the timelapse). if i need to show my work to someone, i'd lock in on the stages

all in all, this took about 15 hours pretty sure 2 hours of that was messing around with their poses sdjkfldj

Hey so Ik you said you should rethink all the colors you used in a tag on your recap post but I genuinely think your art style is absolutely stunning. Keep up the great work! It’s gorgeous it’s refreshing to see color and light differences between the art

!!! ty!! when i made the recap post, i was looking at my stuff and thinking am i actually proud of any of theses??? i didn't feel as confident in my work as i was the year before. but reading everyone's comments knocked some sense into me haha especially all the comments about the colors. ahh but anyways, i'm glad you like my work!!! i'll keep at it

yeah sure! i draw on procreate so i usually have timelapses for everything saved. i'll sort through some of them and see

but i think i'll need to give some context if you are trying to figure out how i work bc "chaos and suddenly im done" is how my process looks hahaa im glad you like my art though ty!!!

hi you are cool, what was your art-learning process like? how did you find your current style?

hey, ahhhh ty!!!

off the bat i want to say i went to art school so i'm not a self-taught artist. i learned foundation stuff there and i still study art in this traditional, academic way in which i read a bunch of art textbooks and try to apply those words to my art

for my current style, the start of things was i saw the first spider-verse movie and wanted to emulate that but for dc characters. and i did that privately for a year or 2 until i made this account

but the driving factor is that i suck at line art and i realized that pretty early on. so instead of trying to lvl up my line art, i dumped all my skill points into color and shape instead. then i realized i suck at anatomy so i focused on backgrounds.

that combo is what you are currently seeing as my style. colors, shape, backgrounds. i've completely given up on line art but i do want to work on anatomy and characters more

my prof said that personal style comes from weaknesses and how you deal with your weaknesses. thinking about it in that way relieved a lot of pressure bc i have plenty of weaknesses, weaknesses galore! and instead of hating myself for my artistic weaknesses, ive been using them as my guiding light for drawings

really liking batman and robin: year one so far

also i like how bruce pretends everything dick does as robin is perfectly normal but no way he didn't panic the first time this happened

i just spent 30 minutes staring at your art because the way you work with colors is insanely pretty! would it be okay if i use a few of your pieces as screensavers/wallpapers? and do you have a ko-fi or sell prints somewhere?

i don't have a ko-fi or have any plans to monetize my art so no prints. sorry! right now I'm just doing this for fun so I haven't really thought that far ahead yet

happy new year everyone!! im filled with hope and dread but time keeps on moving forward so i must too

for my new years resolution, i hope i get the chance to draw more. would like to study people + composition and applying to more projects. would like to NOT disappear for months if i can help it.

Mayhaps I ask; do you use procreate and if so what brushes so you use? Your art looks like a scrumdiddlyumptious gum drop that I so desperately require to consume.

ah tysm!!!! yeah i use procreate for everything. for brushes, i use my own brushset which i modified from defaults/created to suit how i draw (which is chaos then sudden im done)

i have them up for free on gumroad here, hopefully they work for you too!

for city windows and parallel line details, i use devin elle kurtz's city and rake brushes, also free on gumroad

it's december so time to stare at my art output for the year!!!

picked out some stuff that i'm ok with. wish i had more art to show but im trying to let it go since i was gone for 4 months this year. here's hoping for more drawing time next year
