Jason x south asian!reader headcanons (I wrote this with a Pakistani fem!reader in mind. However, I did try to keep it neutral)
- He feeds you samosas and ties your hair for you, while your henna is drying. He has the stupidest grin plastered on his face while doing so, it makes his heart feel full
- He studies your native language to try and communicate with you and your family better. He gets really shy when he uses the wrong grammar or pronounces a word wrong
- Jason has a very special place in his heart for Urdu because it is one of the South Asian languages of poetry (I speak this one lol)
- He definitely learned Urdu, Farsi and Arabic for literary and poetic reasons, now you have to hear him recite different sonnets in multiple languages every day (so cute)
- He studied Islamic history and Hindu scriptures. It piqued his interest and if any of these religions apply to you, then it helps him understand you better
- You always make him wear kohl or kajal in his eyes and he never says no
- You sit on his lap and gently add the kajal in his waterline and he can’t help but smirk in excitement. He likes being close to you
- Jason likes to wear black kurtas. Need I say more? They hug his arms so deliciously, he looks so pretty in them
- Your dupatta (scarf) got caught on his watch one time and he couldn’t stop smiling
- He kisses your hand and calls you meri dunya (my world) and meri jaan (my life)
- He’s disgustingly cringe, he watched an old Shahrukh Khan movie with you once and did THE pose (im crying)
- Orange theory but with pomegranates
- Ultimate brown dad behaviour, let me explain, you tell him you like something and the next day there’s a million packets of it
- He’s a Noor Jehan listener and Galib quoter (me)
- Whenever you wear a lengha or any flowy outfit, he’ll spin you around before pulling you in for a kiss

the new indian diwali barbie doll! 🎀
designed by anita dongre, her barbie wears a moonlight blue lengha with intricate dahlia, jasmine + lotus motif designs. 🪷
while pink is obviously iconic for barbie. anita wanted to bring something more meaningful to this collaboration, so the deep and rich hues of blue were the most natural choice. anita also stated that this barbie has a grace and elegance that all generations would appreciate. she is a timeless beauty that transcends age! 🪄
whilst sketching the personality for her barbie, anita designed the doll with the modern indian woman in mind - someone who is confident and proud of her indian roots, the young india. this barbie is a huge symbol of empowerment for brown girls across the world!
barbie reflects the stories that young girls see in the world around them, and this doll is a perfect representation of that. with her diwali inspired essence, this barbie encourages people everywhere to celebrate the beautiful heritage of indian fashion + culture! 🇮🇳
diwali is a festival that symbolises light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. it brings joy, hope and cheer to the community, so this doll is really special!
every young south asian girl across the world is now able to celebrate their culture + beauty with this barbie! 🪔

I’m so close to making a video on how to fix the Gerudo because genuinely!!!
Wtf is this:
Wtf. Is this racist orientalist bullshit.
If they’re from the desert/based on North Africans and Middle Eastern cultures, they would be covered up/wear more clothing to protect their skin from the sun!
Second it’s clear the Gerudo outfits are based on the racist belly dancer outfit which, horrifying, because a quick google search shows that traditional outfits of SWANA cultures don’t show off skin like this (I actually couldn’t find any traditional two piece outfits like this that wasn’t made by white people fantasy bs)
Don’t get me started on what you’re making the children wear
Third! You cannot convince me that the belly dancer outfit—which is also based on the west’s orientalist fantasy—wasn’t just taken from lenghas and sarees, which are from India!
South Asian cultures are different from the Middle Eastern cultures and North African cultures. We have similarities in certain things. But we are different. And the people who make Zelda have no fucking excuse to not! Have a fucking proper research team!
#keke talks#I didn’t realize how bad the children’s outfits were—when I played BOTW I barely spent time in the Gerudo town#wtf is this

The moronic behavior that many of those kinds of people display reminds me of that cornball post that goes around where it does an "Islam" versus "culture" comparison for different Muslim-majority countries where the "Islam" examples are all random women in burqas and the "culture" examples are pictures of women from those countries wearing cultural clothes from different contexts. I can only speak for the South Asian countries that were used in that "meme" but the gag is that the "culture" example used for Pakistan was a Pakistani actress wearing a shalwar kameez. Shalwar kameez, the literal garment that was essentially made+popularized in the region due to Islamic presence (and is very much commonly worn). They also had an example for India where the woman/model was wearing a fucking wedding lengha, which again, is very commonly worn in Indian Muslim weddings. Interestingly enough, they used India as an example of "Islam vs Culture" and not Bangladesh which has a larger proportion of Muslims.
That's all you need to know about the types of people who cannot properly critique what they are so up against, but still have aneurysms at the thought of Islam
#*.cin#Like why do you people actually and truly believe the Moozlims all practice + follow their religion to a T?

My designs
I first started out my designs with a super simple base, like a simple dress and simple silhouettes and then added simplistic and slight detailing inspired by beading found in saris and lenghas (the first three are examples of this). Though after some feedback, I decided that these designs were not strong enough in conveying Azadi's vision and purpose and decided I needed to be bolder in my approach. I would say the 4th design from the left is my favourite and is an accurate garment for our vision and purpose.
The two designs below is what was picked by my team for the final garments. You will see that there is slight adjustment in the trousers for the first garment. When my group and I was discussing, the beading on the previous version of the design would have been far too expensive and not very environmentally friendly, so we came to the unanimous decision of having them as embroidered flowers.
For the chiffon shawl I took inspiration from the draping of the material over the shoulder on a sari. I shortened it and took it around both shoulders and behind the back and also over the one shoulder and under the opposite arm, resembling the draping a bit more. I intended for the material to be a chiffon, emulating the net material sometimes found in many sari designs but while also offering a bit more of an opaque colouring and covering.
The tank top is a super simple and basic design playing into the comfort and casualness of the outfit with the detailing and south asian aspect coming from the chiffon shawl.
The ‘parachute pants’ were another basic design as the base that we elevated with the detailing of the embroidered flowers. I chose the colours of the flowers to be pinks, yellows and beiges, emulating the colours of the national flowers of some of the South Asian countries (lotus, jasmine and white water lily) and added dark green leaves in pairs at points between the flowers. The flowers do vary in size, some bigger and some smaller to give it a more carefree look.
Design 2: Layered chiffon skirt and Matching Top
The design of the skirt was inspired by the pleating and wrapping of the lower half of a sari. The first base layer of the skirt is a more opaque fabric, acting as the main colour of the skirt. The layers above that base are of varying lengths and of a more of a net material to act as a translucent layer that we are still able to see the colour of the base through it. Across the waistband of the base layer of the skirt, almost draped across, are small embroidered flowers that replicate and give the illusion of a soft fabric belt.
The top is more basic and the focal point is the delicate floral embroidery across the neckline of the top. The top is an olive green, so I chose the colour of the flowers to complement this green so I picked a deep red, borderline maroon colour. The sleeves flare out towards the end and give a butterfly wing effect - super flowy, almost magical.

The Types of Indian dresses
Navigating the world of Indian garments can be quite intimidating. There’s a wide range of Indian styles appropriate to wear, and they're not all called sarees! Here’s a list of the different types, and when they’re most appropriate.
What is a Lehenga?
A lengha (pronounced leng-ah) is typically a 3-piece outfit composed of:
- Skirt (lehenga)
- Cropped blouse (choli)
- Scarf (dupatta)
The lehenga has a similar look to a sari because of the draped fabric but is much easier to wear. (And dance in!) Embellished and elegant, lehengas are delightfully universal. They can be worn at weddings, engagements, sangeets, or receptions. Whether you're the bride or a guest — a lehenga will make any mom proud.
What is an Anarkali?
An Anarkali (pronounced uh-naar-kuh-lee) is a combination of:
- Long flowing top (kurta)
- Leggings or Pants (churidaar)
- Scarf (dupatta)
Because they’re so versatile and low-maintenance, an Anarkali is a good choice no matter the weather or occasion.
Legend has it that Anarkali suits originated back in the Mughal Era. These suits are named after Anarkali (which means pomegranate blossom), a famous courtesan of the Great Emperor Akbar’s court.
What is a saree?
The most traditional Indian garment, a saree (pronounced sah-ree), consists of three pieces:
- Petticoat skirt
- Cropped blouse
- Six-yard fabric
The saree itself is pleated, wrapped, and elegantly draped across your shoulder. With dozens of different ways to style it, sarees can look different depending on their region of origin — or even the type of function you’re attending.
The saree can be an heirloom passed down through generations, or a purely functional garment worn every day. It’s seen on streets and runways and has influenced fashion designers across the world.
What is a sharara suit?
A Sharara suit has a pair of wide-leg, flowy pants that are distinctive to this piece. It consists of three parts:
- Wide leg pants
- A blouse (varying in length)
- A dupatta or vest
The Sharara outfit is a fun and playful option. It is best for a Sangeet, Mehndi, or Wedding event.
What is a kaftan?
While a kaftan is not traditionally South Asian in origin, it has been adopted as an appropriate dress for Indian events. A kaftan is traditionally an oversized floor-length blouse that is embellished with details. It would be most appropriate for a Sangeet, Mehndi, or Wedding event.
More Guidance
Traditions of formality and colors vary by family and region of India. If a dress has more embroidery, it is usually considered to be a fancier dress. Bright colors are usually encouraged as a sign of prosperity. To compare some do’s and don'ts based on events, read our Indian Dress Guide.
