Mkay definitely going to be writing..... multiple Quantum Leap fanfics at some point in the future so establishing some ground rules / changes because the writers clearly have no concept of the word "consistency":

1) 100% body swap. Sam and the person he Leaped into are physically in each other's bodies, the only ones who see Sam as "Sam" (aka the actor Scott Bakula) is canonically the AudienceTM, the other side of the Fourth Wall. he literally has no idea what he himself looks like because he sees the person he's Leaped into in the mirror, and Al also sees him as whoever he's Leaped into.

(On the inverse, this means that whenever Sam Leaps into someone new, everyone at home has to deal with the fact that the body of their best friend is being possessed by a wide variety of people, some of whom are super traumatized, confused, and alarmed at what is happening, from terrified soldiers taken straight from the front lines of Vietnam, to coldblooded hit men, to Sam's literal 13 year old self. There's a lot to unpack here in terms of potential angst)

(Also, None of this bullshit where Sam can see while in the body of a blind man, or having half the episode try to convince you he's not actually pregnant until the last minute or saying "she could have the baby in the future and then the baby could be stuck there!" Like excuse me writers, you are breaking your own universe's established rules in the most hilariously stupid reach with that lol. That's now how this works.)

2) Sam knows american sign language. Any man that goes out of their way to learn 8 different languages is going to learn the main sign language of where he lives, especially with a photographic memory, he would learn quickly just from being around Deaf colleagues and friends.

3) Sam's 100% autistic in my fics :)

4) Sam is also 100% Asexual in my fics :) wether or not he remembers that or even knew it existed as even a concept is up in the air, but either way he'll slowly discover it over the course of the fics. He's also sex repulsed.

5) 4X01 doesn't exist. It was dumb, contrived, and didn't do anything except derail the storyline and completely throw the storyline off it's rhythm and make 4x02 feel very disjointed, leaving the audience needlessly wondering what stakes have changed only to realize... Oh. Literally nothing. (I am so glad nothing changed, but it would have been nice if they didn't try to hype it up like Sam had been leaping on his own for who knows how long, only to have Sam and Al start chatting as though they'd never been separated.)

4x01 was also used as a dumb excuse for Sam to suddenly be into sex, and flirting with women, because clearly they were fishing for more male audience engagement by making Sam have enthusiastic sexy times with women of his own free will (instead of the previous 3 seasons that established that he wants nothing to do with sex or anything physical). Also just the complete irony of them retconning in a wife for Sam in the same episode they start making him more....sexually active shall i say.

6) Ziggy is the "God/Him" in question, clearly, and is Orchestrating Events to make a more perfect timeline that is also a self fulfilling prophecy where he is always created by Sam. Not that Sam or anyone else ever realizes this.

7) Al is super fucking queer, and is very involved in the community and equality movement. Running for Honor doesn't follow the same script anymore, it was probably pretty good for 1992 television,but uhhhh no to Al saying "I can't always be the good guy" like, sorry writers but no .

Anyways. Al is Aromantic and genderqueer, and his full name is Ally which he chose himself after running away from the orphanage for the nth time and being taken in by a group of homeless queer folk and learning about everyone's experiences with gender, sex, romance, and everything in between.

8) "Time travel within his lifetime" except every time Sam Leaps into someone their lifetime is factored in to that count. Exponentially increasing Leaping dates. Aka Sam Leaps into Jesse Tyler in the year 1955, which is when Sam is 2 years old (born in 1953)? Well, now Sam can also leap as far back as Jesse Tyler's birthday and birth year. And every single time he Leaps, the Leapee's lifetime is added to his pool of potential leaping years.

I feel like I've made this post before but I'm bored and thinking about Deep Space Nine and so thus I must rank all star trek series on their levels of gayness

The Original Series: literally so gay but in a like. Homoerotic undertone way. Like Sam and Frodo looking longingly into each others eyes. Like the original Holmes and Watson proclaiming their respect and adoration for each other. 10/10 gay

The Animated Series: never seen it. Theres a catgirl tho, so I guess a 3/10??

Next Generation: I love TNG but there is not a single gay on the crew. 5/10 and that's only because Q exists. Its a crime that Picard had to be a brick wall of heterosexuality because Kirk and Q would've made out on the bridge.

Deep Space Nine: ABSURDLY GAY. Dax = trans. Garak exists. Bashir falls in love with anyone of any gender that pays attention to him. Kira has a weird poly thing with the O'Brians and also shes an angry bisexual activist. Odo and Quark are little gay rivals. Ezri is a baby enby. 1000/10 gay, Worf had the biggest culture shock for this specific reason when he joined the station.

Voyager: My comfort star trek despite being almost as straight as TNG. Thankfully the Doctor is a very Frasier-esque gay and Seven of Nine is an asexual lesbian half-cyborg which is enough. 6/10 gay

Enterprise: Shran is Obsessed with Captain Archer and I'm very happy for him. Malcolm is gay and I will not take questions about it. 5/10 gay but also T'pol and Tripp are like the best straight couple in star trek because of the LONGING.

The Alternate Series: great movies, Chris Pine is very attractive. Unfortunately, oops all straights. 0/10 gay

Discovery: First actual gay representation in star trek. Tig Notaro makes me happy. The doctor/engineer (can't remember their names) couple was clearly written by someone that shipped Tripp/Malcolm. 8/10 gay, points removed for making it very normal and background-y and not having the chaos of TOS and DS9

Picard: Seven is a lesbian and Raffi is cool. Overall my least favorite new Star Trek series but in terms of gayness, a good 9/10

Lower Decks: Beckett is bi and Tendi is trans and thats that folks. Also some fun shout outs to Spock/Kirk. 9/10 gay

Prodigy: kids show that hasn't really established romantic relationships between any characters, gay or straight, so I've disqualified it from getting a ranking.

Strange New Worlds: Nurse Chapel is the bisexual Kira never could openly be in the 90s. I'm in love with Ortegas. Spock is technically straight but has the exact same homoerotic undertones with Pike that he does with Kirk so like. Very accurate to the mythology. 10/10 gay.

ya know, i don't think i ever explained HOW i write smut scenes to anyone, or, ultimately, ANY scene in my fics. like, obviously i put words in order and make them mean things in that order, but i mean the process of figuring out what a scene looks like, how a person acts/reacts, what they say.

i know daydreaming is A Thing and we all do it to some degree. i know it's not Uncommon or Not Normal for writers to do so. but i do wonder how some people write a smut scene even with daydreaming?

because i'm a visual kinda person. what i see i remember more readily than what i hear or read or write. it's just how my brain is wired (great for remembering colours on a specific day, shite for remembering a study i need to know for x reason).

so when i'm writing fic, any scene i write, i have to do extensively thinking about to set it up. for example: a scene where two characters are kissing in a hotel room.

my brain imagines that whole room, the taste of the air, the feel of it, the lighting, what the colours are on the walls, the type of bed, the colour of the bedding etc, even when i probably won't include ANY of that information in the actual scene.

but it's not just imagining the scene vividly. it's like my brain has to actually Make It So I'm Really There. idk if any of ya'll know who Sam Beckett is or the show he was the character of, but he basically got dropped in different times as Himself and Lived Through Scenes That Happened. that's basically what my brain does to me.

i don't get the cliffnotes of a scene/story/whatever. my brain Makes Me LIVE IT.

which isn't necessarily bad because, hey, i write good dialogue between characters and can be really good at describing scenes and behaviour in text. that's great.

but i write smut and violence and stuff like that as well. i write fics about Horrible Things that i may never have experienced but my brain takes bits of things from here, there, and over-there too and Makes Me Live That Thing I'm Writing.

so, as someone who is asexual and generally doesn't care for s*ex, imagine how WEIRD it is to viscerally Live Through A S*ex Scene in your head just to have character A and character B bang for whatever fic.

if you think that's perfectly normal, lemme tell you, it's not. because it's not daydreaming. its not getting carried away. my brain literally Makes Me Live This.

and it does that for fics i read. all of them. good, bad, poorly structured, first person pov, evil character death fics. all of them.

maybe it's the world's weirdest form of hyper-empathy idk, but to actually FEEL the effects of something you've never experienced or WANT to experience is... really fuckin weird.

makes me good at writing but it also makes it hard to write some things.

i'm not even all that sure where i'm going with this, it's kinda just Brain Rambles and Thoughts Shared, but i just find it interesting to think about and what the reason for this sort of Intensive Visual Thinking is. this feeling like i become a different person in a different world for the duration of my writing even though, at the exact same time, i'm still me and know it.

it makes me wonder. i've read so many psych studies and journal articles about psychology, about human behaviour, and psychological conditions, that even i don't know anymore where this sort of thinking/mental adaptiveness should be placed.

anyway, tl:dr - i'm writing a smut scene as an asexual and my brain is living the scene for me which is weird af when i don't have That Anatomy What The Hell

~ someone’s partner being r*ped  ~ two people having alcoholic fathers ~ someone watching their father die ~ the atrocities that the military enacts when ‘colonizing’  ~ a racist parent ~ the mind of a sexual abuser ~ someone’s partner having an ectopic pregnancy ~ the suggestion that someone is asexual ~ the suggestion that spousal abuse doesn’t have to be sexual ~ that parental abuse is a real thing ~ that a parent can mindfuck their children into hating their ex ~ that there is a place called ‘the field’ where these aliens for all their woman to live because they’re cattle and only used for reproduction.  ~ that xenophobia is alive ~ that infections are pus-filled and warm with stretching red skin ~ that a split in the skull spills a lot of blood ~ what it’s like to not trust your partner ~ what it’s like to love two people and not admit it to yourself ~ a blowjob scene ~ a sex scene with an alien named Mork ~ the insinuation that someone has date r*ped before.  ~ The aftermath of a concussion ~ the aftermath of being choked out ~ the aftermath of the male ‘r*pe revenge’ fantasy  ~ the awkwardness of having to talk to someone who you think doesn’t like you ~ A parent denying visitation rights to the other for a good reason ~ a parent denying visitation rights to the other for a bad reason ~a failed proposal  ~ a controlling partner ~ the fear that everything you’re saying is being misconstrued.  ~ the idea of becoming smug out of necessity 

I think that’s all for now. The story just hit 70k words and is just about to start the third part. There are five main characters (Vala, Cam, Rodney, Beckett, and one unannounced as of yet) taken from across the series, although characters like Sam, Daniel, Teyla, Sheppard and others are mentioned in flashbacks, which there are a lot of to establish character. 

Try to take a guess of what statement belongs to what character--I think I did a good job at making it surprising.

"Hey Al?" Sam Beckett asked, "I've been meaning to ask. What's 'Al' short for anyways?"

"Huh?" Al asked, looking up from where he was admiring his pink tie that went along perfectly with his white, floral-patterned button up shirt and bright blue, sequined suit jacket. "Oh. Heh, I forgot you forgot about that! Yeah, 'Al', it's short for Ally."

Sam blinked. "........Ally?"

Al nodded sagely. "Yeah. Well, 'Ally to All', picked it out myself! Yeah, it sounds a bit pretentious, but that's the goal i strive for. But anyways, I usually only go by Al, it's much better for stealthing, especially being in the military and all. I only tell other queer folk my real name."
