Asa's Treaty with Syria
1 In the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa Baasha king of Israel came against Judah, and built Ramah, to the intent that he might let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah. 2 Then Asa brought silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king's house, and sent to Ben-hadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying, 3 There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me. 4 And Ben-hadad hearkened to king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abelmaim, and all the store cities of Naphtali. 5 And it came to pass, when Baasha heard it, that he left off the building of Ramah, and let his work cease. 6 Then Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber of it, with which Baasha was building, and he built with it Geba and Mizpah.
Hanani's Message to Asa
7 And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore hath the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thy hand. 8 Were not the Cushites and the Lubims a numerous army, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the LORD, he delivered them into thy hand. 9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect towards him. In this thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars. 10 Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.
The Death and Burial of Asa
11 And behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. 12 And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceedingly severe: yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians. 13 And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign. 14 And they buried him in his own sepulchers which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odors and divers kinds of spices prepared by the apothecaries' art: and they made a very great burning for him. — 2 Chronicles 16 | Webster Bible Translation (WBT) The Holy Bible; Webster’s Bible Translation by Noah Webster, a revision of the King James Bible, Published in 1833 is in the public domain. It's all about the number 2
Asa and Yoru, Nayuta and Denji, two Chainsaw Man, two camps of worshippers versus detractors, two protagonists, a second part, the two identities of Denji, a high-school student and a hero himself, both demon and human: Chainsaw - Man.
But before we balance all that, let's take a closer look at this chapter.
First of all, I'd like to say how rich chapter 140 is. I see a lot of people criticizing Fujimoto's writing as someone who simply sets up absurd situations when absolutely nothing is left to chance. We're reading a manga by a film buff, so get your head around Chekov's rifle.
I'd like to remind you that Chainsaw Man is set in Japanese society.
Ejecting a sect from a building, or even belonging to a cult that has nothing to do with a dominant, ancestral religion, is more common than in the West.
I've seen plenty of people wondering who could be at the head of the church for making people believe such a stupid story as a violet-ray weapon that would make adults stupid.
When it's the other way around, the church is exploiting the fact that high-school students are just thinking too much. And if there's one thing that saves Denji, it's that he thinks less.
Let's put things in context: this is the '90s, and even if the idea of nuclear weapons has been erased by Pochita, meaning that the Cold War has surely taken a different form in Chainsaw Man, Fujimoto has never denied geopolitical tensions.
Whether it's the mention of the USSR with Reze, Makima's instrumentalization of Japan, the history of weapons, the fact that the American government sought to eliminate Makima or that countries share the remains of the weapon demon...
Countries are in tension. The church exploits this atmosphere of anxiety among teenagers who are beginning to form opinions that dissent from their parents.
Adolescence means coming into conflict with your parents' ideas, so come up with a story about how a gun makes them stupid. It's simply targeted manipulation that exploits the vulnerabilities of individuals in the midst of an identity crisis.
Becoming a teenager also means freeing oneself from a certain carefree attitude and better understanding of the world around us, hence the mention of Americans on the same level as adults.
I'd like to point out that this is not just a collection of absurdities. But for that, a bit of history... I hope I'm not teaching anyone that Japanese society has been turned upside down by the United States.
Without going into too much detail, during the 19th century, Japan went through the Meiji era. The Meiji government pursued a policy of modernization with the ultimate aim of bringing Japan up to the level of the Western powers.
To compete with Western powers such as the United States, the government relied on centralized power to control citizens as much as possible... and this involved reforming the matrimonial system. With the popularization of "love marriage", the Meiji government changed tactics: the polygamous system was replaced by exclusive "love marriage".
The church used the same method of control as the Meiji government: reforming the matrimonial system by overturning institutions. From now on, it's no longer sex after marriage, but before it.
It's this kind of talk that just digs into the cracks that allows them to be brainwashed. But talk has never worked with Denji, who thinks concretely with what he can grasp. A date with a pretty girl, steak, sex, feeling the buttocks when he does the chair. What one would point to as perversity is what saves Denji. He thinks through his senses, his literal needs, not the abstract.
We can't say that Miri, who thinks he's free when he's being instrumentalized, repeating that it's the Americans' fault again, or asking Chainsaw Man if he's sure he hasn't picked up any ultraviolet weapons... that he’s stupid. Because weapons have lost their memory, they have no loved ones, no stories to refer to.
Miri convinces himself he's free, filling the void of his own forgotten history with false stories. The lack of education, of pillars, of history is what had tortured Denji, who was so easily manipulated. I'd go so far as to say that Reze is the most striking example of this.
It's impossible to determine Barem's psychology, but he still demonstrates a third reaction to manipulation: while Denji evolves, Miri locks himself in denial : Barem manipulates in return. Revenge, reproductive mechanism, any number of reasons could explain why Barem exploits one of Denji's weaknesses: Asa.
Now you're thinking, yes, that's all very well, you talk a lot... but what's that got to do with the number two?
The scale is the very image of dichotomy, of a relationship between two forces, two weights, two entities. And what does it have to do with manipulation? Several things.
First of all, manipulation also means taking on ideas that are not our own. It means no longer questioning them, confronting them with dissident ideas that would contradict them, or balancing them.
To balance is also to confront two options in a dilemma. Something that's come up several times, first initiated by Yoshida, then taken up in his own way by Barem: embrace his identity as Chainsaw Man or continue his normal life as Denji?
The manipulation since the start of Part 2 has been to split up Chainsaw Man. To have separated what constitutes his essence: human and demonic. To have split his nature, which has always been that of two beings in one.
And what if I told you that the answer lies in chapter 2 (yes, man). Here, Makima clearly explains to Denji that Pochita is not dead but continues to live with him, that he has two smells.
Fami's project is openly to separate Chainsaw Man, to cut its essence in two: the reunion of two beings.
That's why this chapter talks about marriage, which refers to the reunion of two individuals.
Barem would have us believe that these two choices are antinomic, that they are contradictory and cannot be fulfilled together. Only Denji can have both choices, he had already answered that. His sign of strength is two fingers. Two is Denji's strength. Becoming two is what literally allowed him to be reborn.
Of course, Denji doesn't want to marry; he's already one with one being through a contract: Pochita.
Pochita had merged with him so that he could live a normal life. It was never a normal life, but the life Denji wanted to live. Chainsaw Man is literally the means, a better life, the end.
The secret to surviving the manipulation then lies literally in Denji's heart.

2024 US Election Information
We have roughly 1 year until the 2024 US election. I've put in some research, and here are my conclusions.
TLDR for those of you who don't have time or focus: Cornel West (Democratic Socialist running as People's Party -> Green Party) is the ideal candidate to vote for - normally I wouldn't advocate voting third party, but we may actually have a shot for once, and he has excellent policies. Jill Stein (Green Party) is a potential backup, though if West drops out, our best option for Democratic party is Marianne Williamson.
Please spread this information, especially to residents of Texas, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada. Detailed information under the cut.
Current Fascist and Republican Candidates
Donald Trump, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, Asa Hutchinson, Tim Scott, Ron DeSantis, Chris Christie, Ryan Binkley, and Doug Burgum.
I'm not going to entertain their details, but I will note that the information I picked up while being exposed to alt-right communities from the inside via my fascist parents earlier this year shows strong evidence that Republicans are likely going to split between Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis (viewed as a betrayal by Trump supporters), and openly fascist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. (I'll cover him later).
My guess is a 6/3/1 Republican vote split between Trump/DeSantis/Kennedy, Jr..
Current Democratic Candidates
Joe Biden, Marianne Williamson, and Dean Philips.
Biden has overall failed to complete the majority of his campaign promises, and has been directly supporting Israel during the genocide of Palestine, as well as deferring to Republicans to be "bipartisan" (I don't think I have to stress enough that a bipartisan democrat is not a democrat) - do not vote for him.
Williamson is a high-school educated 71-year-old author from Los Angeles, California. She is known for being Oprah Winfrey's, "spiritual advisor," (double red flag), and dropped out during the 2020 election (another red flag).
While she supports the reinstatement of Roe v. Wade, the decriminalization of cannabis and psychedelic drugs, the reduction of CO2, and moving to 100% renewable energy by 2035, her advocacy for the outright banning of assault and semi-assault weapons for civilians without military reform of the same is a slight red flag when combined with her relationship with Oprah Winfrey (an Obama supporter, the president who authorized quite a lot of drone strikes in West Asia) and drop-out makes her not a great candidate.
Philips is a Bachelor's (Brown University) and Master's Business (University of Minnesota) educated 54-year-old three-term congressman who is noted for criticizing Biden running for a second term on account of both political moderacy and medical concerns.
Philips unfortunately wants to increase police funding for some reason, but advocated for better training, including mental health training. He also advocates for what he calls, "comprehensive immigration reform," in the form of increased border security and streamlining legal entry (this ignores the problem outlined by the UN that people seeking asylum are likely to have to enter a country illegally before they can seek support), and the only real good stance he has is giving reproductive rights to patients, rather than politicians.
Philips is essentially a moderate Republican, and is a bad candidate. Do not vote for him.
Current Independent Candidates
Fascist (not his stated political stance, but it's what he is)
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is a fascist that has openly quoted Nazi propaganda in his political campaigns, is an anti-vaccine activist, and has spread anti-science conspiracy theories such as vaccines causing autism and the non-existence of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. I cannot stress this enough, do not fucking vote for Kennedy, Jr.
Democratic Socialist
Cornel West is a Bachelor's (Harvard University), Master's, and Ph.D. (both Princeton University) educated 70-year-old progressive activist that switched his running party from the People's Party to the Green Party, despite being a both public- and self-described democratic socialist.
When asked why he wasn't running as a Democrat against Biden, he stated that, "Neither party is speaking to the pressing needs of poor and working people."
His party plans are a wealth tax on the rich, a national $27 minimum wage, a federal Universal Basic Income, 6 months of paid family leave, a 4-day work week, national free Pre-K childcare, "Immediate cessation of all oil and gas leasing projects on federal lands and waters," "Federal moratorium on fracking, carbon capture, and direct air capture technologies, geoengineering, and other false climate solutions," putting abortion rights in the Constitution, and nationalized healthcare.
Here's where I want to lay out something important. I normally wouldn't advocate for voting for a third party candidate due to the Spoiler Effect, but
Considering the United States' Democratic majority, popular vote records showing a common Republican minority, the absolutely incredible policies West stands for,
The growing support for third parties in the United States, and his policies aligning with public opinion,
Cornel West is the ideal candidate to vote for. Spread this information like wildfire - we may have one shot at the first third party win in US history in the upcoming 2024 election, and
If successful the dominant parties will be Fascist vs. Socialist, denying most, if not all, future Republican wins.
Our target toss-up states are Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada.
Converting Texas to third party, or even just Democrat, will throw the Republican vote entirely and all but guarantee a Democrat, or hopefully third party, 2024 election win,
Which is absolutely possible, as Texas is majority Democrat and wins Republican votes via gerrymandering despite public opinion, which is why it swings occasionally.
Democrat states also need to be switched to majority third party votes, with particular emphasis on California, New York, and Illinois.
GET PEOPLE TO VOTE FOR CORNEL WEST!
Reference map of polling for the future 2024 election:
Libertarian (slightly Conservative to alt-right, really depends on the person)
Chase Oliver is a surprisingly progressive high school educated 38-year-old anti-war Libertarian that left the Democratic party after witnessing Obama's aggressive anti-West Asian war policies who has expressed desires for criminal justice reform and ending wars abroad, though hasn't elaborated on either.
Green Party
Jill Stein is a Bachelor's (Harvard University) and Medical (Harvard Medical University) 73-year-old Jewish doctor who previously ran for and represented the Green-Rainbow Party as the governor of Massachusetts.
Stein is notable for being an activist and protestor who has both protested outside buildings and testified before legislative and other government bodies against coal plants, mercury leaks, and unclean and unsafe groundwater.
Presumably, her stances will focus on environmental protections, trans rights, and Jewish protections, making her a potential alternative should West drop out.
Conclusions:
Again, don't fucking vote for Trump, Haley, Ramaswamy, Hutchinson, Scott, DeSantis, Christie, Binkley, Burgum, Biden, Philips, or Kennedy, Jr..
Our potential backup Democratic candidate is Williamson.
The ideal candidate is West, with Stein as a viable backup.
As absurd as it sounds, I want you to vote third party for Cornel West.
If you want a wealth tax on the rich, a national $27 minimum wage, a federal Universal Basic Income,
6 months of paid family leave, a 4-day work week, national free Pre-K childcare,
"Immediate cessation of all oil and gas leasing projects on federal lands and waters," "Federal moratorium on fracking, carbon capture, and direct air capture technologies, geoengineering, and other false climate solutions,"
putting abortion rights in the Constitution, and nationalized healthcare,
VOTE FOR CORNEL WEST AND GET OTHER PEOPLE TO DO THE SAME.
WE HAVE A CHANCE AT THE FIRST THIRD PARTY WIN IN THE UNITED STATES AND THE DENIAL OF FUTURE REPUBLICAN WINS.

ok. chainsaw man chapter 155 tatsuki fujimoto rips my heart out of my chest edition.
makima’s search for intimacy in p1 mirrors denji’s. this search is their shared dream, a dream which is negotiated by their respective ideals: the girlfriend that denji wishes for, the Chainsaw Man makima “sought.”
both these ideals for them signifies in essence a deviation from the lives they both lead (first image set: carted to and fro from their meetings with the yakuza/the higher ups, the ones they’re enslaved to) in both a luxury and love denji never allows himself, a freedom and a chaotic that’s anthitetical to makima’s own performance of order.
and this for fujimoto is something that permeates all his text, this subversion of what is signified by connection, by family and intimacy, ultimately dragging you into the same cycle, chaining you to it. it’s agni & luna in fire punch: their love for each other being what makes them carve up their bodies, extending to togata (also existing in idealisation) who frames and directs the Story (the structure) in an effort to feel intimacy.
and here too: denji’s idea of partnership creates Versions of makima for him: her girlishness, her, presented. and makima’s vision of Chainsaw Man informs denji’s own reality.
this Chainsaw Man runs over into part 2 as does makima. and nayuta, concentrated in how she reforms makima, is specifically family. the very family makima concocted for denji as vessels for happiness.
family and happiness, context based connection are what immerses you in structure. unbalancing this utterly iconizes you. the icon makima hoped to create with this rupture was the Chainsaw Man. she tells him that he is incapable of normality because he killed his family, and in this chapter he tells himself that – she aims to author this rupture with her concoction of family but she herself is so intertwined in it. nayuta’s Makima in part 2 is this very intimacy, this family. the thing makima too craves.
and do you see here? the cycle? the way this worth in connection is what makes nayuta sacrifice herself for denji? togata sacrifice himself for agni? aki sacrifice himself for the hayakawa family as people cheer on the chainsaw man? the way in the end the rupture is self inflicted, the icon is self formed, and the protagonist is left forming context out of nothing? how so many of fujimoto’s relationships build upon idealisation of the other?
do you see here? the way they’ve all made dogs out of each other? denji holding pochita close, denji the dog. makima the dog, and the pets she dotes upon. nayuta and denji, walking the dogs together: they’re the culmination of the two’s part one relationship, the fulfillment of all their wishes in each other, and yet, yet
yet barem. the Dead Wife barem. building a mockery, a reproduction of makima’s self onto himself, tearing away homes, contexts to force them all back into this cycle. i said he didn’t understand the intimacy she wanted when i called him the Dead Wife to makima’s performance of Woman. the Woman, forever iconicised, obsessed over, suspected, subjugated…
the question: “who am i?” answered through context (family, connection) not identity intrinsic to oneself. dreams as dreamt through each other, “make my dreams come true for me!” denji tells pochita next to wanting him to live a normal life in his body. makima in the end, wanting to eat together, live together with the CSM, smoking a cigarette (uncharacteristic) in the graveyard.
all of part 2 then, cast over by this shadow. asa, navigating both solitude and connection through war. parasocial relationships. yuko becoming Justice for asa. the theatre scene, aspiration on screen viewed alongside the response of the person next to you. and asa in the orphanage, told that she can’t have a family, that she must exist decontextualised – and now structure, hunger, reproduction doing just that, part 2's deconstruction to part 1's construction, ripping it all away, backing you into this cycle.

Vlad's level of cartoon evilness has a tipping point, to me.
Vlad will always make me laugh because the way I see it, he could've had more episodes where him and Danny were pitted against each other intellectually. At the start Danny is very clueless but then blackmails Vlad so both of them have to keep things under wraps. Underdog way of dealing with Vlad's whole mess. Then they had a lot of back and forth. Vlad arguably could be set on a path of reformation, he's creepy but he's into the same things Danny's parents are into so exactly how "weird" Vlad is may be under a skewed measurement from Danny's perspective. Clearly manipulative and a dick and we digress.
But the Dani's episode comes up (before maternal instincts? I could be wrong, but it's just a step further than what Jack and maddie said they'd do to ghosts so eh.) and it's like "damn ok how do we come back from that?" and the answer is we don't. And the graphic novel's answer to that is "we have to lean into it hard." and I respect that.
does it match his super villain master mind tendencies? Yes. Does it make his relations with the Fenton family asa whole that much more fucked up because it's a direct personal reaction to them existing as a family? Also yes.
They could've done a clone story in any other way. But they also couldn't have because the genius villain cloning the main hero and sending said clone to maybe kill the hero is a classic comic book trope. (superman wise) It's just so messed up to give Vlad that role. "what's wing with him?" etc.

These moments totally happened at the GOP primary debate
WaPo satirist Alexandra Petri add her spin on the Republican primary debate. This is a gift 🎁 link so that those who do not subscribe to The Washington Post can read the entire article. Below are some excerpts. Enjoy! 😁
If you said, “Would you like to watch Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, Doug Burgum, Mike Pence, Asa Hutchinson and Chris Christie talk to each other for two hours? FYI, the place where they’ll do so is hotter than Beelzebub’s armpit!,” I would have said, “No, thank you.” But if you said, “The alternative is watching Donald Trump talk to Tucker Carlson on the website formerly known as Twitter,” I would say, “I can’t wait to hear what Ron, Vivek, Nikki, Tim, Doug, Mike, Asa and Chris have to say!” [...] Here is approximately how it went. Bret Baier: Hello. We have brought a bell just because we enjoy the sound of a bell. Martha MacCallum: Feel free to speak over it; it will give the evening a fun, musical vibe. Baier: Yes, and speaking of music, candidates, the number one song in America is something called “Rich Men North of Richmond”! Governor DeSantis, introduce yourself by providing a close reading of the subtle lyrics of this song. DeSantis: Hang on, first I have some prepared remarks! Joe Biden’s basement! Hunter Biden’s paintings! “Rich Men North of Richmond”! Taxes! Florida! Baier: Chris Christie, why would you be better as president? Christie: Bret, I have spent the last four years sailing around sharpening my traffic-cone harpoon for my hated foe (from hell’s heart I spit my last breath at him!), and the one question I did not expect was about a scenario where I could actually become president. Uh, I was governor of New Jersey? So, take that for what it’s worth.
[See more under the cut.]
Scott: I have come to this debate with some specific numbers at my fingertips! I was told everyone would be excited about specific numbers! If not, I would really like those hours back. Ramaswamy: Hello! You may be wondering, who is this skinny guy with a funny name? I’m not a politician who is going to offer you a series of prepared, meaningless platitudes. I’m a businessman with no political experience who is going to offer you a series of prepared, meaningless platitudes. Isn’t it time we stopped running away from things and started running toward things? I am not running for president so much as I am running for the title of Favorite Grandson of your Fox News grandmother. Have you ever considered that people don’t love God anymore? [...] Pence: Hello! I am here to recite scripture and keep referring to the Trump-Pence administration, and I’m all out of scripture. That was some Mike Pence humor; I will never be out of scripture! I am unquestionably the best-prepared person in this race, the single individual with the experience that is closest to being the president, with no exceptions that spring to mind. I have been in the hallway. I have been in the White House. Do you like what my administration did with the Supreme Court? [...] Ramaswamy: You think now is the time for incremental reform. I think it is the time for actual revolution. Pence: Good Lord, no thank you. I do not have any revolutionary proposals. I believe in mild, small, incremental change. Except for a nationwide 15-week ban on abortion, which I want to implement because I promised it to God. Haley: Let’s be realistic! Women hate hearing this. Let’s just admit that it will never happen. But we’re all going to say we want it to happen! But, ladies, it’s not going to happen. [...] Young Person: Please tell me that anyone on this stage believes in climate change, the only issue I care about because I anticipate living on this planet for at least 60 years. I am starting to get worried. Can we have a show of hands? DeSantis: No! We are not schoolchildren! We will not raise our hands or acknowledge the existence of science! Ramaswamy: As the only one on this stage who is not bought and paid for, I have a thought. Christie: I have had enough of a guy who sounds like ChatGPT and stole his opening gambit from Barack Obama. I came here to bludgeon Donald Trump verbally, but Trump is not here and I have a lot of verbal bludgeoning built up. [...] Baier: Why do we have homelessness, drugs and crime? Pence: Because Democrats talked about defunding the police, and everyone knows that if you say “Defund the police!” into a mirror three times, crime appears. It’s just science, or, as Governor DeSantis and I prefer, religion. Christie: I disagree. Crime went up because Hunter Biden did it.
Please use the gift link above to read the rest of Petri's cutting satire.
Just one thing I would like to comment on though. I grew up in NJ... BEYOND the exits on the Turnpike. Why does there always have to be a NJ joke?🤦🏻♀️There really are nice parts of NJ. Really. I mean it. 😉

Chainsaw man is just one big story about trauma and how cope and process it
Yeah :(
Denji been abused since day he came into the world ( csm world) father abused him forcing Denji to kill him out pure survival and self defense. Yazkua comes in to abuse Denji more and then kill him.
Denji now reformed as a hybrid gets emotionally and sexually abused by his mother figure but other woman in his life. Said mother figure skews what Denji thinks he should want.
All Denji wanted was basic bare minimum of what normality. Be teen boy going to school play games, eat good, and have a girlfriend.
Good things in Denji life is having chainsaw man but same time it’s ruining his life and puts his own identity/self worth in middle. Pochita been one thing keeping Denji happy. Despite everything long as that lil chainsaw dog was with him it was enough.
Pochita tried get Denji girlfriend, go on a date, and eat food. Now Pochita back literally erasing anything that traumatized him.
If chainsaw man is story in three parts I really hope it ends with Denji coming terms and processing his trauma. Learn he’s enough, grow and be happy. Is that too much ask for Fujimoto?
( same goes for Asa too want her happy and grow as a person )

An open letter to the U.S. Congress
Co-sponsor the American Stability Act to end income inequality!
624 so far! Help us get to 1,000 signers!
As your constituent, I am urging you to co-sponsor the American Stability Act (ASA). The American Stability Act is a bold, elegant solution to the threat posed by destabilizing levels of inequality.
The American Stability Act does the following:
-ELIMINATES FEDERAL TAXES for any taxpayer making less than the median cost of living for a single adult with no children (slightly above $40,000 a year);
-SHIFTS the responsibility for these revenues onto taxpayers making more than $1 million a year;
-REPLACES the ‘minimum’ wage with a new “Stability Wage,” which is set to the median cost of living in the US for a single adult with no children, and then indexes it to make that principle permanent.
We need bold, innovative reform. Lawmakers like you must structure a more stable, prosperous economy that will deliver the results we need for a strong nation.

Have you read the Maiden Lane series? I know is a long one so I was wondering if you could rank them? I have only read up to book 5
Omg YES. I love Maiden Lane. It's so good. An all time favorite series of mine. I will say: I haven't read Wicked Temptations a) because I hear it's kinda different from the others, not surprising because it's a first book and b) it took me forever to find in paperback (I mean to be fair I could've totally gotten it on eBay lol, but I forgot and I finally found it at a used bookstore) it's never in any of my library systems in paperback or E, and I didn't want to get it on my kindle if I could possibly find it on E. c) Now I'm down to two full length Hoyt historicals and she's a top author for me, so I'm kinda saving it.
But yes, of the ones I've read:
Thief of Shadows--I find this to be an incredible book, it has my favorite virgin hero of all time, I love the emotionality, the lack of a magic baby, an incredible hero/heroine dynamic. I will never not love this book.
Scandalous Desires--another one I just adore, it has one of my favorite "rakish her/moral heroine" dynamic. I love that she is very pure but she's not a virgin. I love the baby in this book, rare for me. I love the pirate ship setting. The way she says "I love you" during sex and he climaxes IMMEDIATELY lol.
Duke of Midnight--this is apparently a controversial but brave opinion, because Maximus is a SUPER alpha, kinda major asshole hero. I just love the quiet but firm way that Artemis responds to him, and his totally deluded dirty talk (he calls her Diana, he tells her while he's literally inside her about how he's gonna keep her in a hunting lodge and shit lol), the sex scenes are FIRE. The line "take my come for it's all I can give you" is WILD and I adore it. Also, HE IS THE NIGHT!!! AND HE HAS A GEORGIAN HOME GYM.
Sweetest Scoundrel--I really love a hero who seems like a rogue but actually has a deeply good and gentle heart once he realizes that the heroine isn't as tough as she seems, and Asa Makepeace IS that. I love that he's so respectful of Eve's boundaries while also really admiring her emotional strength and willingness to try new things with him. Also--that carriage scene? GIRL. GIRL. ICONIC.
Duke of Sin--I just really admire the absolutely insanity of this book. I also enjoy a villain hero who really doesn't reform at the end. He's just in love. He still does villainy, but he's found love and he prioritizes his love. Also, Bridget, similarly to Artemis, watches his carnage and goes "Well" which is a thing I have a weakness for. Just a heroine shaking her head and being like "I don't know what I expected.
Dearest Rogue--this one is really sweet, especially by the bananas standards of Maiden Lane. I love a bodyguard romance, and I also appreciated the fact that the heroine was blind and a good bit younger than the heroine but not infantilized. Plus, it's a good roadtrip romance.
Lord of Darkness--a "put a baby in me" romance, which I ALWAYS love. I love that this one has a mild-mannered professor type hero who like, wears spectacles and a "Night Before Christmas" sleeping cap lol. But he puts it DOWN. After an initially awkward encounter. I also love an initially awkward encounter.
Duke of Pleasure--the Return of the Ghost of St. Giles, one of the truly wildest "fakeout makeout" (except it isn't fake and is waaaay more than a makeout lol) scenes, and a cross-dressing heroine initiated into the sensual world~ by an older man. So fun.
Notorious Pleasures--controversial for cheating reasons (and Maximus is introduced and... really doesn't come off well lol) but I find it so fun. Very illicitaffairs.mp3, kinda low stakes compared to a lot of the other books, a solid romp.
Duke of Desire--this one is VERY dark and very intense, and while I think it's a beautifully written recovery book, I found it a lot heavier than Sweetest Scoundrel. Which isn't a wrong move, but it is a very sad, very emotional book you really need to be in the right emotional place for.
Darling Beast--I really need to reread this one, because I don't know if I was in right mood for it. And I do appreciate the interplay between the hero and heroine, the fact that the heroine has a job (and is an actress) and the fact that they can't speak to each other for a good while? Like I said, really need to reread.
But overall, even a mid Maiden Lane book is better than a lot of other historicals. Elizabeth Hoyt just has IT. I love the fact that these books are often about more working class or middle class characters, not just the nobility. I love the big, ambitious, wacky plots. I love the heat factor (she writes a great sex scene). It's just great.

I feel sorry for the general public of the Chainsaw man world. Like not only do they have to put up with Devil attacks the people who are supposed to be protecting them are not doing their jobs very well! What makes it even worse is they cannot call Public Safety out on their antics because they probably feel who else is going to protect them from Devil attacks? So they do not demand some reforms because why risk upsetting the boat in a situation like this?
Oh like 100% I feel bad for the general public in the csm universe, but I also find it a really compelling and realistic parallel to a lot of real life governments and government organizations. And also be honest that’s why I think there is a lot more public distrust of public safety in the csm universe than what we see in the manga! Mostly because the manga is from the perspectives of two people who have a very warped view of the world they’re in. Like with Denji, he grew up so outside of everything the beginning of csm is basically introducing him to the world he’s already been living in, and from there he was immediately picked up by public safety and didn’t see anything they (Makima) hadn’t vetted first. Meanwhile Asa is very much a teenage girl stuck in her own head (<- said with so much love and understanding) she has a lot of trouble looking outside herself at the world around her, and as a result a lot of her worldly opinions are ill informed or heavily dependent on the moment she’s in. It would not surprise me at all if the general public’s opinion of public safety was pretty low, even to the point of them experiencing trouble in the form of protests or something else in that likeness (in fact I highly expect this to be the case). There’s a lot of coverage in the manga about how chainsaw man is viewed by the public, but other groups like public safety don’t get brought up unless it’s in conjunction with chainsaw man. I think to an extent this is because the opinion of chainsaw man is what’s most relevant to the story, but I also think that it’s in part to emphasize that the coverage of chainsaw man is how Denji (and to an extent Asa but not as much) understands the public. For Denji he sees the general public as just another thing that will either provide him with the love he craves or the brutality he keeps facing, with little to nothing in between. Personally I think we will end up getting a lot more insight into the actual general public perceptions whenever Yoshida actually comes back into play (whenever that fucking happens). So far of all the younger characters he seems to have the most knowledgeable and objective perspective of the world around him, which has made his avoidant at best relationship with the narrative extremely irritating to me. But I really think the story is going to come back around to this specifically, especially with the comments made by several characters about the horrifying mundane events of living in an apocalypse (like Nayuta mentioning needing to go to school still during the chainsaw man zombies and the comment about the news talking about celebrities after the gang broke Denji out of public safety) but I suppose we’ll have to wait and see!
#chainsaw man spoilers#chainsaw man#thank you for the ask!#there are like a bunch of irl parallels to public safety that I think about#but I wanted to keep this more cohesive and focused on the idea of public opinion as shown in csm#though ‘cohesive’ might be a strong word tbh I did ramble through a lot of this lol#I just think about csm a lot#read my terrible words

A S A H O L L A N D - " T H E H O O K "
Underboss for Jolly Roger , Children's Book Illustrator
46 years old , He / Him , Homosexual
FULL BIO BELOW.
PLEASE CHECK TWS BEFORE PROCEEDING TW // Homophobia, medical malpractice, electroshock therapy, religious trauma, medical trauma, head trauma, murder
BIOGRAPHY .
Asa came into the world with a hard-working mother and a father hellbent on success. While he and his sister spent their childhood in a cozy cottage near the cliffs on the outskirts of Dublin, their father was worming his way into the Irish government. Conor Holland wanted to be in the cabinet, and that meant making sure he had the perfect family... and Asa's rebellious teenage nature, coupled with his secret homosexuality found out through secret magazines and love letters under his bed, meant that he was a huge liability. So Asa was sent away to a troubled teen's home at age 15 - a place that could take minors and sculpt them into whatever their parents wanted. Extremely religious, strict. He was made to believe very early on that any anger is not tolerated, and neither is his attraction to men. It only worsened from there. Asa's rebellion ran deep, but his father's stubbornness ran deeper. When he didn't seem to be 'reformed' as his father wanted, Conor Holland forged medical documents and sent him away to a psychiatric facility. When they started to suspect anything, he'd be sent to another. Asa spent nearly 20 years in and out of mental hospitals. White walls, little cups with his daily medications. Sedated, lethargic, and isolated. Some locations were better than others. Some were complete hell. Meanwhile, his father benefited from an absent son who was so tucked away, so hard to find or learn about, that he could even be claimed to be dead. St. Irene's was the worst. After medical malpractice with defunct medical equipment and out-of-date experimental treatments, Asa was left worse than ever. An electro-convulsive therapy machine was used on him in hopes this could cure the issues outlined by the ever-growing list of mental maladies his father had assigned to him by force. But with St. Irene's over-crowding, he was sent back to his father. This time, Asa made sure he couldn't be sent back, and took a hammer to his father's head. An unfortunate housefire 'took the life of' Conor Holland, member of the Irish cabinet. And Asa fled to London with his father's secret stash of cash. It was the court case of St. Irene's v. Holland that got Asa noticed by the Jolly Roger. A carefully crafted take-down of the corrupt institution he'd been subject to for years. Old letters, polaroids, prior patient testimony. Asa had forged the most airtight condemnation of the institution completely on his own - and won a huge settlement for his troubles. The place was shut down, the owners and some of the doctors locked up. Suddenly, Asa Holland was an asset. A smart man whose father seemed to 'disappear'. After he'd been looked into, he was pulled into the Jolly Roger, starting with some general consulting and aiding in organization. It didn't take long for him to get into killing. He'd already done it once and loved the way it felt. So why not a few more, for pay? And soon enough, he was moving up, and up. Now an Underboss, Asa Holland is noted as "the Hook". Named after the captain in Peter Pan, Asa has 'hooks' in many parts of London. He 'hooks' people into the Jolly Roger who intrigue him... and just like a fishing hook, he keeps them there until he decides to rip free. If he ever does...
HEADCANONS .
-Asa can be an incredibly off-putting individual, due to his time away from ‘society’, as well as the head trauma he's experienced. While he tries to make conversation with others, it is clear he is still figuring out how to make friends and to have relationships.
-His flat is an eclectic and beautiful mishmosh of art, plants, and his 5 cats. He collects many items from the antique stores that Jolly Roger works out of, and its on display beautiful in his artsy space. It's here where he has his own private art studio for his books - he works as a childrens book illustrator.
-While he is an enigma wrapped in another enigma, Asa can be a kind person. He often is thoughtful in small ways- having everyones’ coffee orders pegged on his bulletin board in his office, sending small and odd cards for birthdays and events.
-Asa is covered in tattoos. He often wears suits when working that covers them all, but in the past 10 years of his time in 'society', he's collected ink all over his arms and legs, shoulders, back, and chest.

Asa’s Changes
1 The Spirit of God entered Azariah son of Oded. 2 Azariah went to meet Asa. Azariah said, “Listen to me, Asa and all you people of Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you obey the Lord, you will find him. But if you leave him, he will leave you. 3 For a long time Israel was without the true God. And they were without a priest to teach them and without the teachings. 4 But when they were in trouble, they turned to the Lord again. He is the God of Israel. They looked for the Lord and found him. 5 In those days no one could travel safely. There was much trouble in all the nations. 6 One nation would destroy another nation. And one city would destroy another city. This happened because God troubled them with all kinds of trouble. 7 But you should be strong. Don’t give up, because you will get a reward for your good work.”
8 Asa felt brave when he heard these words and the message from Azariah. Azariah was the son of Oded the prophet. So he removed the hated idols from all of Judah and Benjamin. And he removed them from the towns he had captured in the hills of Ephraim. He repaired the Lord’s altar that was in front of the porch of the Temple of the Lord.
9 Then Asa gathered all the people from Judah and Benjamin. He also gathered the people of the tribes of Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who were living in Judah. Many people came to Asa from Israel. They came because they saw that the Lord, Asa’s God, was with him.
10 Asa and these people gathered in Jerusalem. This was in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa’s rule. 11 At that time they sacrificed to the Lord 700 bulls and 7,000 sheep and goats. Asa’s army had taken these animals and other valuable things from their enemies. 12 Then they made an agreement. They promised to obey the Lord with their whole being. He is the God their ancestors served. 13 Anyone who refused to obey the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be killed. It did not matter if that person was important or unimportant. It did not matter if that person was a man or woman. 14 Then Asa and the people made a promise before the Lord. They shouted with a loud voice. They also blew on trumpets and sheep’s horns. 15 All the people of Judah were happy about the promise. They had promised with all their heart. They looked for God and found him. So the Lord gave them peace in all the country.
16 King Asa also removed Maacah, his mother, from being queen mother. He did this because she had made an Asherah idol, which the Lord hated. Asa cut down that idol and smashed it into pieces. Then he burned it in the Kidron Valley. 17 The places of worship to false gods were not removed from Judah. Asa desired very much to obey the Lord all his life.
18 And Asa put the holy gifts that he and his father had given into the Temple of God. These things were made of silver and gold.
19 There was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa’s rule. — 2 Chronicles 15 | International Children’s Bible (ICB) The Holy Bible, International Children’s Bible® Copyright© 1986, 1988, 1999, 2015 by Thomas Nelson. ✉ also for mik (prison love story days mayhaps???)
Dear Mikala,
It feels odd to call you 'lover' when we have not made love. In fact, I have not touched you in these years. But the name seems so fitting - when I think of you, this is what my head defaults to. Lover, Beau.
I hope this is alright.
Your words in the last letter speak comfort and wishing me well. It is not necessary - I spend my days here doing the monotonous, as I did in my old life before Alice met her demise. It is mostly sitting with my thoughts, eating, sleeping. Pissing.
Except now I have you.
You are the flash of lightning, it seems.
I can't say I'm reformed. But if that's what I have to say, or how I have to act, to get to you, then lying has never seemed so romantic.
In your next letter, tell me about your favorite article of clothing. I'd like to know what you like to wear, what keeps you warm and covered. One day it will be me instead.
Yours,
Malachi
p.s. Do I want to know what the stain on the last letter was?

Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK): An Exact Method for Correcting Vision
PRK is a precise and minimally invasive surgery that aims to reshape the cornea and enhance eyesight. Referred to as LASIK, epi-LASIK, or ASA, PRK is a very effective option for minimizing or getting rid of the requirement for glasses or contact lenses. At MAIDA CustomVision, we use advanced computerized excimer laser technology to carry out this procedure with exceptional precision and attention. For individuals looking for LASIK in Jacksonville, PRK offers a great option, especially for those with specific corneal issues.
In the PRK process, the excimer laser delicately eliminates a slim layer of tissue from the surface of the cornea. This reformation of the cornea fixes refractive problems, enabling light to properly focus on the retina and leading to improved sight clarity. The whole procedure lasts only 10 to 20 seconds, offering a fast and effective choice for improving vision.
Following the treatment, a soft contact lens is inserted onto the cornea to improve comfort during the healing process of the epithelial layer. The typical duration for this healing process is usually between 3 to 5 days. Patients may feel some discomfort from the contact lenses and perceive a slight decline in their vision during this period. Nevertheless, after the cornea has finished healing and the contact lens is taken out, there is a significant enhancement in vision clarity as the corneal surface becomes smoother.
PRK is especially advantageous for those with thin or slightly irregular corneas, making it a great option for patients who may not be suitable for other refractive surgeries. It is the preferred method for Navy pilots, astronauts, and individuals who need top-notch visual sharpness and dependability.
Studies conducted in the United States have demonstrated outstanding results for PRK, with every single patient experiencing enhanced vision. Significantly, 66% of patients achieved 20/20 vision, showcasing how effective the procedure is at restoring optimal visual function.
At MAIDA CustomVision, we are dedicated to offering state-of-the-art care and leveraging the most recent developments in refractive technology. Our group of skilled experts customizes each PRK procedure to fulfill the unique requirements of our patients, resulting in outstanding outcomes and high levels of contentment.
Contact Maida CustomVision for a consultation if you are thinking about PRK or another refractive procedure. Our skilled team will assist you in navigating the process and determining if PRK is the suitable option for achieving reliable, clear vision.
