Arudha Lagna in the Signs

Arudha Lagna is how others perceive us (especially society/public/media). It is our projected and illusionary personality. Referred to as “the seat of Maya” Maya=illusion/Rahu. Which usually differs from our true personality represented by our Lagna/ Ascendant.

How to calculate Arudha Lagna?

1. Find your Lagna/ascendant the Lord (Aries ascendant-> Mars)

2. Count how many houses from your ascendant Lord to your ascendant. (ex. how many houses mars is from ascendant= 8 houses)

3. Count that same number from Ascendant lord. That is your Arudha Lagna (ex. 8 houses away from mars= Aquarius AL)

Benefics sitting in the Arudha can give a positive public image. Making one appear good and trustworthy, even if they aren’t.

Malefics sitting in the Arudha/or ruling the sign can tarnish one’s reputation, making the public distrustful or critical.

For example- Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu sitting in AL can tarnish one’s reputation

Signs ruled by Malefics such as Scorpio (Mars & Ketu), Aries (Mars), Capricorn & Aquarius ( Saturn) doesn’t have as severe of an effect as a malefic siting in AL. But it does make one appear controversial or questionable to public at some point in time.

AL In Aries- Bold, competitive, intimidating, leader, pioneer, aggressive, action oriented, sexual/ promiscuous

Women tend to be accused of competing with other women or men competing with other men

Who Are You? Where To Find Yourself in a Chart. Part 1.

We know how important it is to know ourselves. Last time, I gave you here a list of the main indicators but the aim was to find your Lunar sign, or your core nakshatra. Here, we go deeper into the layers of our minds.

After that, in my next post, I will recap the divisional charts that will help you delve deeper.

The List of the Indicators

Moon: This is a crucial planet to look at. In India, it is generally considered to be your birth nakshatra. The Moon defines your Vimshottari Dasha, or future, as soon as you were born. She shows your psychological and biological karma, your mind and the way you move in society. The Moon indicates your emotions, desires and past life experiences as well. These experiences will still reflect in your behavior today. These experiences, emotions, thoughts come and go like the waves of the sea.

Ascendant/Rising Sign (Lagna): It shows how you integrate yourself with society but in a physical way. In other words, it shows how you present yourself and how your life's environment looks like. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, IT SHOWS WHERE YOU FOCUS. Any planet situated in your first house (using the whole sign system), will sit permanently in your head.

Sun: It is a significant planet as it is your battery. How can you live without energy? How can you live without the Sun?... It is impossible. Here, the Sun represents your vitality, your health, your spiritual development and your righteous actions.

The Ascendant Lord (or Lagna Lord/LL or Lagnesha): It shows the same things as the ascendant but in a more active way. It shows how you get nourishment, your passion in life. It also shows where you focus. The Lagna Lord indicates where your intelligence is best applied and what kind of situations you deal with since early age.

Dharma Lord: It is not commonly used but from my experience, it works wonderfully. It is the planet which is related to your lagna nakshatra (e.g, if your lagna is in Purva Ashadha, then, Venus becomes your Dharma Lord). This planet becomes the Lord of your dharma or righteous duty. It shows you the path and the challenges you will encounter, as well as the solutions to them.

Atmakaraka (AK): The Atmakaraka is the significator of your soul. It is the planet with the highest degree in your chart. It represents your difficult karmas to burn and how to deal with them. This karma trash resonates with the nature of your AK planet, therefore, you will behave the opposite way to how this planet is supposed to behave in the end. It also shows your potential, what is important for you and how you realize yourself.

Ketu: Ketu denotes your past life experiences, like the Moon but unlike her, Ketu does not behave like the sea waves, but it actually behaves like a place where you stock your former behavioral patterns and experiences. It can be compared to your subconscious. It represents our true, hidden, nature but we are mostly unaware of it. It is also the place where we get bored because we had experienced these areas too much before, hence Ketu being called as “comfort zone” even though, it is not always very comfortable due to being boring. This boredom will attract you to Rahu, its opposite polarity, the unknown, exciting jungle.

Mahadasha Lord: Using the Vimshottari dasha, your current Maha Dasha Lord, which rules your current period of life, will impact your mind and behavior. It will not last for ever but it stays there for a couple of years, so, you cannot neglect it.

The first syllable of your first name: Don't forget your first name! The two first sounds of your name corresponds to a particular nakshatra. Even if there is no planet sitting there in your birth chart, this nakshatra will also influence your behavior and life. Themes of this nakshatra will definitely play out in your life.

The secondary indicators

Mercury: Mercury is the planet of rationality. It is your rational intellect. It shows how you manage your daily routine challenges in life, as well as other practical knowledge. It shows the way you learn, and the way you express yourself.

Rahu: Rahu shows your biggest obsessions. It represents your most intense desires. It is actually about illusory desires because once they are fulfilled, you still want more. It is a place where you are always unsatisfied, hence frustration. You might get so annoyed that you totally give up on your Rahu, which leads you automatically to your Ketu, and you stay there. But Ketu, even though it is comfortable, you end up getting bored, and in the end, you go back to your Rahu. It is the endless cycle of the nodes, which were initially one body (Svarbhanu): one cannot leave the other. Rahu also represents the unknown fields for you, which also lead to fears. As it represents the unknown, you are quite new to what Rahu represents in your chart, hence you are likely to act awkwardly there.

Arudha Lagna: It represents the appearance made by the Maya, the material illusion of our environment. This is the appearance that all strangers will see from you at first. It is your image, e.g, your image on the social media, your reputation in general... This appearance is all made up: it is rarely linked to your true self. But it explains why people behave a certain way with you and not another. The Lord of this lagna should be taken into account too.

Aries: This sign represents the first house in the original kaal purush kundli. The house it occupies, the planets that sit and aspect there will remain in your head. In other words, you will also focus on them.

Cancer, the Fourth house: They both represent the peace of mind, your privacy, and most importantly, your heart. What does your heart desire? The house Cancer occupies, any planet sitting, aspecting Cancer and the fourth house will show you what.

I was analysing the arudha and upapada lagna of myself, my friends and other people and I feel like arudha lagna is definitely what people think about you whereas your ascendant is how you really are. My mom's ascendant is pisces but her arudha lagna is in Scorpio and has sun in it, and people always see her as a very private person, dominating, serious, strong, secretive, sort of detached type of a person and a leader, but people who are very close to her know that she's a total softie.

I think I appear “Ketuvian” to people, likely because of my Arudha Lagna is my Ketu in Scorpio (Anuradha) in the 9th house, combined with having an Ashwini Sun. The reactions I get from people in stores or class are interesting—they often look at me as if they’re trying to figure out who I am or seem a bit put off. Could it also be my Uttara Bhadrapada ascendant? People with this placement can come across as secretive or slightly off-putting too.

I experienced rejection and humiliation in early grade school, and it only got worse in middle school. Eventually, I switched to homeschooling. When I returned to high school, things didn’t improve—even the teachers treated me strangely, much like they had in middle school. So, I went back to homeschooling and finished my classes early. I had only one truly great teacher who still stands out in my memory: my 5th-grade teacher. Toward the end of the school year, she began to show kindness and care toward me. I think she realized I came from a poor family and saw how hard I worked while also helping take care of my younger siblings. She started buying me things and even paid for a school field trip I couldn’t afford.

I remember the night before the field trip, I set a timer to prepare because the bus was scheduled to leave at 5 or 6 a.m. Unfortunately, I overslept—the alarm didn’t go off, and it was already 7 a.m. I cried, not because I missed the trip but because I felt like I had let my teacher down after she gave me such a wonderful opportunity. Whole time my teacher had been blowing up my mom’s phone, telling her the bus was still waiting for me. The principal even came to pick me up from my house! Apparently, my teacher had said, “I’m not leaving until she’s on this bus.” When I got on the bus, the kids were rude, complaining, “We’re late because of you!” But honestly, it’s not my fault that I’m highly favored..

Another memory I have is from my birthday that year. I wanted to leave school early because I felt sad. The day before, my P.E. teacher had humiliated me, which triggered a panic attack. This was during a time when my mom’s abusive boyfriend was emotionally tormenting us, so I was already hypersensitive. My P.E. teacher was upset that I wasn’t in the correct volleyball position during practice (which, oddly, was held in the cafeteria). What made it worse was that I had back problems and was later diagnosed with scoliosis. My mom had to come to the school and go off on him and then he later apologized. I even remember another male teacher trying to claim I didn’t have scoliosis, which was insane like why are you invalidating my medical problems you do NOT know me.

Anyway, on my birthday, my 5th-grade teacher called me to the back of the classroom and asked if I’d like to decorate cupcakes for the class to celebrate. I wanted to cry because no one had ever done anything like that for me before. She told the class that I brought the cupcakes, not her, which was so sweet of her. We kept in touch after I left the school. In fact, she sent me a letter in 2021. I really need to write her back sometime—I heard she’s still teaching.

to give a short example, when five of us would have the same score in high school, our teacher would assign all of us 5th rank instead of giving us all 1st. now it is a thing of intense understanding to be able to see that the teacher wishes for the children to improve by doing this. but ofc, there's that negative, pessimistic view of it too, which must be abandoned if you wish to study vedic astro.

Just in D1? Nope, also in D9 (Navamsa) and D10 (Dasamsa)

Venus specifically in Magha Nakshatra which is in Leo and/or in 5th house are big fame indicators, and even more so for those interested or working in the entertainment world.

Any of these two planets in the 7th or 10th will amplify your control over the masses. Venus does it through charm and grace, whereas Rahu does it through being cunning and innovative.

Extra:

Arudha Lagna (AL) has also been mentioned by him in other fame related videos. This point shows your social status, how you appear to others, possibility of fame, illusory perception of the self from others.

He mentioned that if AL has any planet present in its 1st, 7th from itself or possibly even 10th from itself, then during the MD/AD period of any of those planets (emphasis on 1st/7th axis planets in AL chart) it will “explode” the fame of the native. You will become known for whatever the trait of those planets have even after death. This could be for good or for bad depending on the strength of the planet (by sign or aspects).

AL conjunct Moon, so basically your AL sign matching your Moon sign also signifies popularity as well! Affliction from 7H could impact it but it will be there nonetheless.
