hi hi hi <3 can i ask how caro realised their grey-aroness??? (i wanna ask the same for john and him being ace, but we've heard a bit more about that before than caro!) being aroace myself, i hold both or these characters very close to my heart <33

HOOKAY so. i think its more when did i realize as a creator that Caro wrote themself aro hahahaha, but yeah. I'm not sure they KNOW it in those terms yet, they just know they dont tend to catch feels (i tend to write my characters as certain orientations without always putting the label on them if that makes sense? as in johnny is asexual but he doesnt call himself that because he doesnt know there is a word for how he feels at this point, i like to leave things open ended like they were for me, and others exploring their identities) but i realized not too long ago i had definitely wrote them that way. And i thought it was important to add to my Pride Piece! As seen above haha Caro is a hyper sexual person. they have a lot of encounters, FWB, hook-ups etc but that havent ever DATED anyone since highschool, and back then it was in performance only, they never had feelings for any of the boys their folks set them up with. The only person they've ever had real feelings for is the one person whos been there all along, who knows everything about them, who knows their secrets, was their first kiss, first person they were intimate with, first love, Johnny O'Sullivan. And when those feelings suddenly come rushing back after years of not feeling anything for anyone romantically, well...its gonna be a bit complicated.

There WILL be a conversation about it later in Seemingly Dark, between Caro and Mick, but you'll be able to see where that goes when the time comes!

Caro ist ace und teen Leo ist damit ein bisschen überfordert (und viel zu sehr mit seinen eigenen Problemen beschäftigt)

Leo erinnerte sich noch gut an ihren letzten gemeinsamen Besuch bei Oma und Opa. Sie hatten oben in ihrem kleinen Zimmer unter dem Dach gelegen, Leo in dem schmalen Bett und Caro auf der Matratze auf dem Boden, weil sie die letzte Runde Uno verloren hatte. Es war das erste Mal, dass Caro das Thema laut ansprach, nachdem sie in den Jahren vorher alle derartigen Fragen ihrer Eltern konsequent gemieden hatte.

„Fast alle von meinen Freundinnen haben jetzt einen Freund“, begann sie.

Leo ließ sein Buch sinken. Er hatte für die letzten Minuten sowieso nur auf die gleiche Seite gestarrt ohne den Text zu verstehen. Sein Kopf war in letzter Zeit ohnehin oft viel zu voll um zu lesen. Aber jetzt hatte Caro ausnahmsweise mal seine ganze Aufmerksamkeit. „Und du?“ hakte er nach, als Caro erst nicht weitersprach.

Für einen Moment hing die Frage zwischen ihnen im Raum. „Als ob. Das hätte ich doch niemals für mich behalten können“, sagte Caro irgendwann.

Da war Leo sich nicht mehr so sicher. Als Kinder hatten sie vielleicht über alles geredet, aber eben nicht über solche Dinge, weil diese damals noch nicht relevant gewesen waren. Jetzt gab es schon eine Weile lang einiges, wovon er Caro nicht erzählte und er hatte einfach damit gerechnet, dass es umgekehrt genauso sein müsste.

Aber er widersprach ihr nicht. Stattdessen legte er das Buch zur Seite und dreht sich zu ihr. Im Schein der Nachttischlampe konnte er erkennen, dass sie auf dem Rücken lag und an die Decke starrte. „Hättest du gerne einen?" wollte er wissen. „Also einen Freund?“

Die Frage war für Leo nicht ganz ungefährlich, denn falls sie ihm die gleiche zurück stellte, würde er entweder lügen oder eins seiner größten Geheimnisse preisgeben müssen. Nämlich, dass er schon gerne einen Freund hätte, und zwar jemand ganz Bestimmten.

Dass Adam überhaupt kein Interesse an ihm hatte und Leo nur als einen guten Freund sah, tat dabei nichts zur Sache. Genauso wie andere Dinge, die seit ein paar Monaten zwischen Adam und ihm standen. Doch das alles konnte er Caro aber auf keinen Fall sagen. Es reichte schon, dass sie ihn heute Morgen gefragt hatte, warum er so schlecht schlief und dass er darauf keine passende Antwort parat gehabt hatte, außer irgendetwas über Vollmond und Wetterumschwünge zu murmeln.

„Glaub nicht.“ Caros Aussage überraschte ihm, vor allem, weil sie zwar das Wort glauben beinhaltete, aber trotzdem so sicher wirkte, wie Caro sonst nur klang, wenn sie ihm weismachen wollte, dass ihre Lieblingsband die beste aller Zeiten war und dass Leo die Musik schon mögen würde, wenn er einfach mal darauf einlassen würde. „Vielleicht nie.“

„Muss ja auch nicht“, sagte Leo, weil ihm keine bessere Antwort einfiel. Es war ja nicht so, als ob er seiner Schwester einen Freund aufzwingen wollte. Vielleicht war ihm sogar lieber, wenn keiner der Jungen aus Caros Jahrgang ständig bei ihnen zuhause rumhing und Leo sich deswegen beobachtet fühlen musste.

Außerdem ging es schließlich ähnlich. Wenn er Adam nicht haben konnte, wollte er lieber gar keinen. Und vor allem keins der Mädchen aus seinem Jahrgang – wenn die Leo überhaupt beachtet hätten.

„Ich hab das im Internet nachgeschaut. Asexuell nennt man das. Also wenn man gar keine Beziehung will oder so. Oder alles, was das beinhaltet.“

Leo nickte, obwohl er nicht genau verstand, worauf sie hinauswollte. Wahrscheinlich konnte sie ihn im schwachen Licht sowieso nicht sehen. Zu dem Zeitpunkt hatte er den Begriff noch nie gehört, aber es gab Sinn, dass Caro sich mit so etwas beschäftigte. Sie war schon immer jemand gewesen, der allen Dingen gerne auf den Grund ging. Außerdem konnte er sich dadurch endlich erklären, warum sie in letzter Zeit ständig den Familiencomputer bis spät abends belegt hatte.

„Erzählst du mir davon?“ fragte er in den Raum. Er hatte irgendwie das Gefühl, dass es wichtig war, in diesem Moment. Und solange Caro erzählte, musste er nicht in die Verlegenheit kommen, irgendwas über sich selbst zu verraten.

Weekly Writing and Reading Update

Hello! Doing much better with the anxiety, just in time to get whacked upside the head with the time change. For whatever reason it's hitting hard this year, so I'm having a nice time mostly being a blob on various articles of furniture and doing jack-all. I shall tidy and get ready for the week...later. At least I made it out to go snowshoeing yesterday; our snowpack this year is dreadful but maybe I can make it once or twice more this season. Writing

Like a Garden In The Spring This is humming along beautifully, though I do feel a little blocked on where to go next; I think I've written up through chapter 4 or so, so I have some breathing room! (I mean, schedules are made up I update when I have a whim, but still.)

Swords and Ploughshares; Signs and Sigils I'm working on the next chapter, and same thing -- I think I just have to figure out where the story goes next (and how to keep it interesting!), we'll be good to go. porny_letters: maybe this is what will break my writer's block, lol! I love my aro/ace stories, but wanted to just write something super explicit and romantic, so behold: an epistolary story with historical lesbians and bdsm and Aziraphale sleeping with absolutely EVERYONE and just a touch of hurt/comfort, and lots of gushing love. Also I found out how to see the number of private vs public bookmarks per story (don't worry -- I can't see who made them or if they wrote anything, just numbers!) and y'all are some quiet horndogs, I'm also contemplating a sequel to A Fortnight By The Sea after re-reading it and also learning that a lot more of you liked it than I thought.

Reading

Let's see, I finished the last translated Kindaichi mystery (until May!), The Village of Eight Graves, and it's the first one I really didn't like. It's narrated, for a change, by the most mid man in the world who keeps having women fall in love with him, and there's some really weird reveals. Not every story can be a banger!

I also re-read Independent People, which I read the first time a few years ago. I loved it, but it felt harder-going this time around; it's dark humor, and deeply sad in a lot of ways. It's sticking with me more than ever, though, and I really do need read more Laxness stories.

I started Means of Ascent, the second of Caro's LBJ biographies, and it's just such a good reminder of what a master writer Caro is; it's thrilling. Also it's sort of hilarious how much Caro openly loathes Johnson (he's very easy to loathe), but is clearly fascinated with him. I'm sort of somewhere around the end of WWII, in the middle of Johnson's wilderness years, and very interested to see how the upcoming election is handled (and honestly curious to see how LBJ handles it when Roosevelt dies).

He was the only one they were able to tell the truth about themself when they were kids, and he kept them safe. They wished they could go with him to Seattle Pride, but never could have dared, so he always brought a little of it back for them in the safety of his attic bedroom.

Things are so scary for a lot of people right now, and I didn’t feel like making a super cheerful Pride piece right away, so instead, something hopeful. I’ll probably post Caro’s coming out to him from my mini zine Prom Night later on, if you’re interested, for those who haven’t read it, but for now, please understand in or out of the closet, circumstance is different for everyone, you are so important and loved and valid. However, I will add this to my Volturi Relationships series. Seeing as though this came in after the order was decided, I will add this moodboard in at a random point in time when it feels right.

De Succession  a la “niña lino”: ¿qué tienen en común?

Con el fenómeno de la serie Succession, la próxima coronación del Rey Carlos y el empuje de tiktokers de moda surgió nuevamente el interés por la estética del old money Pero…¿qué es? Un artículo de la revista Ohlalá toma la definición de Cambridge la cual explica que el old money hace referencia a personas adineradas cuyas familias llevan siendo ricas mucho tiempo. Se podría decir que old money se nace, no se hace. 

Este estilo surgió a principios del siglo XX entre los jóvenes de élite que asistían a Universidades privadas en Estados Unidos e Inglaterra. Se caracteriza por colores clásicos como el crudo, blanco, azul marino y todas las tonalidades de grises. Además, y esta es su principal particularidad, es discreto. No busca ostentar marcas y se opone a la logomanía. El old money preferiría sacrificar su caballo antes que usar un suéter que tenga inscripciones de “Balenciaga” en letras gigantes.. Además, es mejor amigo del lujo silencioso. 

Lujo silencioso: llevar un outfit de miles de dólares sin decirlo

El lujo silencioso consiste en un objeto, actividad o experiencia al que solo tiene acceso un grupo reducido de personas que no necesitan presumir de esto. No llevan un tipo de vida aspiracional porque simplemente esa es su realidad. 

En cuanto a marcas hay para todos los gustos: la indumentaria de Loro Piana, los bolsos de Boarini Milanesi y hasta las valijas de la marca alemana Rimowa. En cuanto a la ropa, las prendas prescinden de mostrar su marca o divulgar su precio porque no hace falta: quienes las usan las reconocen y las utilizan para reconocerse entre sí. 

Argentina’s version 

¿Existe el lujo silencioso en Argentina? Sí. Pero es importante tener en cuenta que el precio no es el único factor. Como en nuestro país los parámetros de lo barato y lo caro suelen ser un tanto polémicos, el lujo no pasa solo por lo económico sino también por la exclusividad. Podríamos mencionar marcas como Rapsodia o Ricky Sarkany que si bien no son “baratas”, están al alcance de alguien ahorre un poco. Por ello, haciendo incapié en la exclusividad, tomaremos otras opciones menos conocidas. La primera es Markova, una marca que históricamente hizo sastrería y confecciona piezas elegantes y atemporales para mujeres de cualquier edad. Otros ejemplos son las prendas de las marcas de polo La Martina y Rossi & Caruso y por el lado de la indumentaria femenina se destaca Blue Sheep. En cuanto a complementos pueden nombrarse los anteojos y lentes de Carla Dí Sí, los sobres de Flanêur Clutch o los diseños de Isabel Englebert que van desde los accesorios como aros hasta las esculturas y los adornos para el hogar. 

El fenómeno niña lino 

En las últimas semanas se hizo viral en TikTok el concepto impuesto por Maureen Fellner de la “niña lino”. Habla de una chica de un estatus económico alto, que se viste sencilla, con colores crudos y claros y con prendas específicamente de lino. Mantiene un perfil bajo, sube fotos a las redes sociales de paisajes o puertas. Luego ahonda más sobre la niña y los niños lino: tienen familia de polo, viajan a destinos europeos no tan conocidos y se matan antes de ir a Miami. ¿Les suena familiar todo esto? Este concepto parece una reversión de algo que ya conocemos. Entonces ¿Podemos decir que la “niña lino” es la versión 2.0 del old money? ¿Por qué si? ¿Por qué no?

I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't find it if so- is it okay for aaw if we hc a character as aroace? The fic would exclusively focus on the aro part anyway, but I know some people maybe want more of a distinction between being aro and ace due to people conflating them so much so I would get it if I'd need to only label as aro for that. Thank you!

Hello! Aroace characters are totally okay as long as, as you said, the aro part is the focus of your fanwork.

We’re aware that sometimes is difficult to separate them for some people, but we want to keep the aro spectrum as a priority in all of our events.
