(Al Mayadeen) Germany authorized additional arms exports to "Israel" worth over €30 million ($31.2 million) in recent weeks, according to a report by German newsweekly Der Spiegel on Tuesday.

In total, Germany approved arms shipments to "Israel" exceeding €160 million this year, despite mounting international criticism over Israeli genocidal actions in Gaza, as voiced by human rights groups.

Germany remains a steadfast ally of "Israel", with Chancellor Olaf Scholz frequently highlighting Germany’s historical responsibility for "Israel’s" security due to its Nazi past.

Critics contend that Berlin’s unwavering support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is undermining Germany’s global reputation and increasing its isolation on the world stage.

"On Sept. 10, 2024, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly said Canada would bar Canadian-made arms from reaching Gaza and later that month reaffirmed that Canadian-made arms would not be exported to Israel and that arms made for the U.S. would not be sent along to Israel.

But 16 days after Joly's initial commitment, more money was approved for the U.S. to buy ammunition for Israel from GD-OTS-Canada, according to contract details on USAspending, an official open data source.

The site shows that on Sept. 26, 2024 a 2023 contract was modified to increase its upper limit by just over $55 million US (around $76 million Cdn).

The original contract was to supply the U.S. with ammunition to be used "in support of Ukraine," but the modification in September changes the language to "in support of Ukraine & Israel."

Hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered on Parliament Hill Saturday, accusing the federal government of backtracking on its pledge to halt arms transfers to Israel and urging politicians to make foreign policy a central issue in the election campaign. Shatha Mahmoud an organizer with the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) said Canadian companies supplying military components — even indirectly — are enabling Israel. "We are continuing to send weapons, if not straight to Israel, then via the U.S. where the majority of these weapons get to Gaza," she said.

To no one's surprise, I have more thoughts on Ashton's feelings about faith and begging for divine intervention and never receiving it, because... well, look at what's in their head.

I tend to take the view that the Luxon as a divine entity does not necessarily have conscious intent in granting divine favor; it is closer to a foundational force of reality, with the rather nebulous thought that might accompany a living entity associated with that kind of force. So not inert matter, but not exhibiting the will and motivated action that the Pantheon or even the Primordials do. The Primordials are closer, in that they are active, but I think they are less willful. This isn't particularly relevant to this discussion except as evidential comparison, though, so I digress.

What this view of the Luxon results in, in practice, is the bestowing of power by seemingly random chance. The beacons are where they are, and any movement of their worship or use is in the hands of mortals who convey that—whether that's the expansion of dunamantic arcana in Aeor and possibly the larger world in the Age of Arcanum, or the missionary efforts of the Kryn Dynasty, or simply one person passing it to someone with ill intent who exploits another worker to expand its use and turn it into a weapon instead.

And what happens is that these smaller exchanges create ripple effects, and the path of this force being conveyed continues, which is how it has come to Ashton—by a series of circumstances that, when looked at individually, look like mundane random chance, but taken as a whole, are so unlikely that they seem meaningful in the end.

I think this gets to the heart of what the Luxon seems to rule—the world may be governed by chance and circumstances, but when those circumstances are accumulated—into an event, or a nation, or a life—they create not destiny but meaning.

Ashton's circumstances are a series of misfortunes that feel almost fated in how perpetual they are—when he spells out the course of his life, and says that he can count on his fingers how many genuinely good days he's experienced, the weight of that misery feels like an oppressive fate.

But within the amalgamation of that misery, they've also happened upon—one might say were bestowed with—power. This is the power that lets him decide to be a hero and decide to save his friends. And, by some accounts in Exandria, it would've been granted to them by a god, without even asking anything in return. It's not verbal, so it's not a concession or meant to be placating, which wouldn't do much in the long run—it's the means by which Ashton has been able to wield control over his own destiny.

So if there's any meaning to circumstance, maybe it means that when Ashton prayed, something already answered.

Canada has refused to comment on a planned United States sale of Canadian-made weapons to Israel, after news of the deal drew rebuke from rights advocates who argue the arms will help fuel Israeli human rights abuses against Palestinians. In a brief statement to Al Jazeera on Tuesday, a spokesman for Canada’s foreign affairs department, Global Affairs Canada, said it “will not speculate on a possible Foreign Military Sale by the United States”. “Since January 8th, the Government of Canada has not approved new arms export permits to Israel, and this remains the federal government’s approach,” it said. Canada announced earlier this year that it would not authorise new export permits for weapons to Israel amid mass protests over the country’s war in the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 40,000 Palestinians over nearly 11 months.

Civil society organizations that are taking the Dutch state to court over its position in the Gaza war receive broad support for this. Oxfam Novib, PAX and The Rights Forum are demanding in summary proceedings the immediate cessation of the supply of parts for Israeli F35 fighter planes. Amnesty International contributed to the preparation of the lawsuit and several other NGOs have now expressed their support. In addition, more than 1,000 individual Dutch people showed their support by contributing to a crowdfunding campaign.
