[Kamala’s] mother presents her with a costume she had made in Karachi. The color scheme is similar to her idol, Captain Marvel, but the silhouette is in line with her Pakistani heritage, the garment taking the form of tights, a kameez, and a dupatta. “Even just if you look at the detailing,” [executive producer Sana] Amanat said, “there’s a lot of cool textures in it that Arjun [Bhasin] incorporated that feel very South Asian in a very subtle way, and yet have that texture and weaving that superhero suits have.” –Delia Harrington, "The Importance of Getting Ms. Marvel’s TV Costume Right"

Hi!!! I am such a fan of all your fics, especially the trainees and their shenanigans. But imagine the implications of Alec basically raising dozens of kids!!!! 10-15 years down the line, he literally has all these Shadowhunters, maybe some in different Institutes, who would do ANYTHING for him while also being (probably) married to the most powerful warlock alive and raising another.
Imagine a threat to his life in this scenario. Like someone comes after him, or tries to poison him. The Clave itself would be scared to intervene would that investigation.
Sorry if that got too long!
Hi! I’m delighted to hear you enjoy my silly fics and the trainees, who have completely taken on a life of their own, lol. 😁 Also, please don’t apologize about long asks! I adore long asks!. And short ones. All asks are good.😊
And oh no, Alec being hurt by someone coming after him, or surviving an assassination attempt *would* make them all see red. I can just imagine the carnage Magnus and the trainees would leave behind. I’m pretty sure they’ll terrify so many people in trying to find the culprit (and they will find the culprit, and enact justice because the Clave has no business handling this, this is personal thank you very much) that nobody dares to go after Alec again.
Threatening Alec becomes a sign of insanity after that. Proof you need to get evaluated because Redflower (Clara) took down three Forsaken bare-handed (not entirely true), Stonewell (Leo) single-handedly took out seven shadowhunters by striking them down with their weapons (true). Bhasin (Arjun) summoned a dragon (it was his backpack, but true otherwise). The Lightwood ward (Madzie) and the youngest Lightwood (Max) snuck inside the Council room without setting off any wards, alarms or demon towers just to inform - read threaten - the Council they would be handling things (true) and Bane smiled. He smiled. It might not sound like much but any shadowhunter who was present and saw it agrees they would rather face down a large Shax nest alone than have to see that smile again.
It takes Alec five months after his near-death experience to calm his kids and husband enough to stop them from calling him every hour to check if he’s still okay.
#Thanks for asking#foodsies rambles#Repeat after me#this will not become yet another AWG one-shot#I already have too many plotbunnies#We are not adding yet another one#Also Sarah’s laughter goes down in Nephilim history as the scariest thing to exist outside of Magnus’ smile#Hideaki is nice to their opponents though#As is Aridane#They just draw them a picture of what they will look like if they don’t start talking soon

Can You Ever Forgive Me? — A Woman’s Touch Wins Out
Sometimes a basic biopic can be an okay thing. I’m usually the person railing against monotony when it comes to film structure, but every once in a while I watch a film that is formulaic in every way, and yet I can’t help enjoying myself.
Can You Ever Forgive Me? achieved this rare feat. With a beautiful Melissa McCarthy performance as its guide, this film meanders through a classic beginning-middle-end structure with empathy, humor, and taste. While I found Richard E. Grant’s slutty gay sidekick a bit grating, and the conclusion disappointingly sappy, the women win out in this feminist narrative that doesn’t feel the need to tell you how feminist it is.
The styling is perfect. If subtlety ever won awards I would hope for a best costuming nod for Arjun Bhasin, who manages to bring a reality and truth so rarely seen in film, especially in films centering on women. Lee (McCarthy) is so refreshingly normal. She’s not ugly, not the butt of a joke, she’s just average. She does wear make up, but only a bit and only when she has a real reason to; her clothes are comfortable and homely, but fit correctly and work well with her shape; her hair is greying and plain, but straight, clean and well maintained. I wouldn’t blink if I saw that person walking down my street, and it’s bizarre how rare that is for a leading character of any gender, but it is especially rare for leading ladies.
This is also possibly one of the most feminist movies of the year because it’s not “feminist” at all. There’s no undertone of misogyny or oppression in regards to gender, and yet the story is chalk full of women. It would have been so easy for them to go the route of The Wife, using “women can’t get published” as a catalyst. Instead they go for “assholes can’t get published”. In a conversation between Lee and her publisher Marjorie (Jane Curtin) — in which they hilariously trash Tom Clancy — Lee throws out the line “is it because he’s a man?”, to which Marjorie promptly responds with something like “no, it’s because he’s not a bitch to everyone around him”. We are finally starting to see true female stories, with flawed, complex characters who have other issues besides not being a man, and even more than that, we are seeing true female side characters with their own motivations and their own unique problems that aren’t just not being a man.
Lesbianism is brought up early in the film in a similarly classy fashion. Jack (Grant) asks if Lee is seeing anyone to which she responds in the ilk of “no, she’s gone”, and that’s that. With one simple pronoun we’ve learned her preference without a bunch of unnecessary pomp and circumstance, and because we are living in this world at this time, we can infer all the problems she’s probably faced without needing a big speech. McCarthy’s performance is also stellar in this regard. As she interacts with two different women in whom she is interested, McCarthy sits us right in the middle of romantic and platonic, we aren’t sure whether she wants a girlfriend or just a friend, which beautifully illustrates the level of loneliness with which Lee is struggling, and the type of person she is in regards to relating to other people.
The writers didn’t need to include a big thing on feminism and lesbian rights because they had quite enough to work with by simply exploring isolation to the core. In yet another incredibly tactful move, Heller focuses all of the films energy on a few key antagonists: loneliness, bitterness, hopelessness, and insignificance. By choosing to take a detailed look at a couple issues rather than tackling everything that Israel ever struggled with, we’re given a powerful, streamlined, and focused look at the human condition through a beautiful lens of fear and pain.
It shouldn’t be this hard to tell a story with this level of care, but since they are so rare, I applaud Marielle Heller and I hope she gets a best director nomination for her clean and refreshing approach. It’s amazing what can happen when we let women make art about women.
Rating: Good. In my top 30 of 2018.

The Fearsome Four
Alright so it seems that more than one person wants a list so here we go with the first four trainees. (I will be splitting this up because like some people aptly remarked there are Too Many Trainees and writing them all down in one post is going to make for an infinitely long post. (Cries in, these were supposed to be one of characters that were just supposed to make the institute feel more lived-in. Not menaces that take over half of the story)
Maxwell Joseph Lightwood (He/Him, 9 years and a half - Not an OC though I HC him looking differently than in the series in my head)
Nicknames: Max, Maxie, Little Clover, Cricket, Little Caramel, Menace, Little Terror
Physical description: looks like a mini Alec – black hair, hazels eyes and mischief in his blood. He’s smaller than the other trainees his age, standing somewhere between 3ft 11 and 4ft (120,2 cm) Has three long gashes on his torso that span most of his chest as well as two smaller but just as thick scars on his right upper thigh, a thick scar on his left ankle and one on the inside of his right arm. (This only applies for AWG Max. Golden Words Alec is 4ft 3 (130,5 centimeters) and has no such scars.)
Personality: He’s the Menace Supreme what more do you want me to say? Culprit number 1 of the Mumbai Incident.
Extra info: co- owner of Bubbles and has a batman backpack with cartoon characters and sharks on it
2. Arjun Jaskaran Bhasin (He/Him, 9 years old)
Nicknames: Arji, Jun-Jun, Marshmallow, Chotu (nickname only his older siblings call him)
Physical description: thick dark-brown hair that’s mostly straight, dark brown nearly black eyes. He’s about 4ft2 (128,5 centimeters) and the only one of the fearsome four that doesn’t look like a mess most of the time.
Personality and tidbits: He’s quieter than his three best friends, but no less of a menace for it. He’s the youngest in his family and is close with his parents/older siblings despite not living in the same institute. He loves everything dragons and, even though he misses his family a lot, he also loves being at the NYI. Now if only Alec could get the rest of his family to work there as well…Culprit Number 2 of the Mumbai Incident.
Extra info: has a dragon backpack, yes the dragon can breathe fire.
3. Barika Fahari (He/Him, almost 10)
Nickname: Barii, Riri, Gumdrop
Physical description: short, black curly hair. Light brown eyes. 4ft 5 (134 cm) which makes him the tallest of the foursome fear.
Personality and tidbits: Barika was originally supposed to be a female character because I didn’t want Max to only have male best friends, but then Barika decided he was trans without any care as to what I had planned (hence the female name which he decided he was keeping). Like Max, he’s a menace and adores comics. His absolute BFF is Leo and those two will probably end up as parabatai in the future. Culprit number 3 of the Mumbai Incident.
Extra info: Has a The Flash backpack with a little Green Lantern keychain and ever-changing cartoon/Manga-characters on the sides. Robin, Batman and Cyborg logos are embroidered on the straps.
4. Leonard Benjamin Knightvale (He/him, two days older than Max and will never let him live it down)
Nickname: Leo, Lenny, corn chip, little lion
Physical description: light brown hair that tends to get in his eyes, green-brown eyes and 4ft3 (130 centimeters – yes, Golden Words Max teases him back for being older but shorter)
Personality and tidbits: If someone enabled Max to do one of his stunts, Leo is the most likely culprit. If nobody enabled Max to do one of his stunts than Leo was likely in a coma because he WILL enable Max’s shenanigans just to see the chaos happen. BFF’s with Barika and thinks Alec is the coolest person ever. He lacks any kind of impulse control and is currently in the lead in the “Get Ragnor to turn them into a frog” competition much to Max’s displeasure. He hates being called Leonard about as much as Max hates being called Maxwell. Culprit number 4 of the Mumbai Incident.
Extra info: Green Lantern backpack with a The Flash keychain, a Batman keychain as well as a Cyborg and Robin sticker. The Green Lantern logo in the middle lights up and can turn into different colors if Leo wants to.
Part two
#AWG#the trainees#I Will have to find a way to tie the different parts together#Or maybe reblog and add the other trainees with each reblog#Still have to figure that one out#But yes#there are too many trainees#And if I knew they were going to play such a big role I would have kept them at FIVE#Menaces#all of them#Foodsies rambles#The trainees list
