Not to nitpick your nitpick, and I can see where you're coming from, but I've done performing arts for most of my life and theater is my current major, so I'm mostly coming from my personal experiences here.

Some people's singing voices are vastly different from their speaking voices. Someone whose natural speaking voice is closer to a baritone can sometimes just naturally sing most of the time in high falsetto as that's their natural singing range. Someone with a naturally high pitch when talking at lunch can suddenly hit the lowest notes you can imagine in an aria. A lot of it has to do with how air intake and muscle movement and control work in tandem to project sound. You also see it with some more prolific voice actors when they have to sing in-voice for a character doing a musical number.

The trick for when doing singing in a production is consistency in casting and continual presentation. You want to have the singing voice be consistent to what is required of the character. And it needs to be shown through the entire production.

I definitely agree with you that the juxtaposition of Weiss's speaking and singing voice is rather jarring. I could kind of overlook it for Mirror Mirror, given that was our introduction to Weiss in the show, but by This Life is Mine, we hadn't seen Weiss sing at all in the main show. If she had been given more chances to sing in canon, the switch between Kara and Casey probably would have been seen as more seamless and natural.

Yeah, you're right that professional singers can alter their tones or sing differently from how they speak, but I feel like most singers especially most singers that don't play characters on the regular don't tend to do that in a way that makes their voice unrecognizable? I'm by no means a professional or studied, so you probably know more about it than I do. I just feel like A. it still doesn't sound 'like Weiss' at all to me. B. if Weiss's singing voice was so drastically different from her talking voice, it wouldn't be as big of a hangup to me if they'd made it be an in-universe thing with a reason. Like Jaune could say something about how he expected Weiss to sound different based on her singing voice, and she could say that she'd always been trained to make her voice as grown up and professional as possible, maybe. It could've been a reason why Weiss doesn't sing that much that she feels like she doesn't even sound like herself. People could hear songs Weiss sung and be like "wait that was Weiss? But it doesn't sound a thing like her!" And Weiss could be like "I'm a professional singer, we can alter our voices sometimes and I think doing a tone so different makes me sound good!" Just anything that would make it feel less like she's only a Lina Lamont miming singing with a different person in the back actually doing it for her.

While it's plausible that Weiss could just sound like a different person when she sings, without an in-universe reason it doesn't change the fact that it feels like she's lip syncing and it's very odd. It's like the Lindana song in Phineas and Ferb, it didn't sound like Linda because it was actually Olivia Olson singing the song, and though it was possible that Linda's voice could've changed through the years or that she just sang differently than she talked, it was still weird because it didn't sound like her.

It's possible for professionals to alter their voices, and not everyone sounds exactly the same talking as they do singing, you're right. But I feel like with such a drastic difference between Kara's speaking voice and Casey Lee Williams' singing voice, there should've been an in-universe reason given if they didn't want everybody to think it sounded really fake and disconnected.
