since orome is obviously the family vala (with aule coming in second) the group costume theme that year was orome. (they do a different vala each year)

yes celegorm does in fact have a horse, yes his horse does actually look somewhat like nahar, and yes he put a rubber horse mask on huan instead.

instead of doing orome + a friend, ambarussa are doing Tall Orome (they did rock paper scissors for who gets to be the head).

aredhel and galadriel show up as orome & vana, but halfway through the party galadriel pops into the bathroom and converts her costume to tulkas:

On the fashion of the Gondolindrim

I have realised that I did quite a research regarding sensible fashion design for the 1st age elves and that I could share what I had learned.

The Gondolindrim live in a secluded valley in abundance. The city’s beauty and glory is close to that of Tirion. They have been living in relative safety for about four hundred years which is more than average American city. They are scholars and artists with multiple cultural influences and a loooot of time on their hands.

Materials

The Gondolindrim would probably use a lot of silk and metal fibres. Oh wait - is someone objecting that the silk moths are proliferating mostly in warmer climates? Totally right. But there are plenty other moths that produce their own kinds of silk and are adapted for colder climates too, the properties of these silks are just not as convenient for weaving as the silk moth’s cocoons. Maybe an obstacle for a human but certainly not for an elf. They probably love layered gowns with subtle embroidery creating 3D impressions and ethereal elegance, or prefer exquisite brocades with ornaments (probably ocassionaly using the house emblems). As for winter fabrics, Silk velvet would be the choice. I can imagine them trying to avoid using too much fur and furs mostly serve as decorative trims.

Egalmoth wearing his complicated attire including layered cloak with goldwork stars and diamonds . His hair is braided, although most of it is loose - probably Glorfindel influenced.

Colouring and patterns

This is the difficult part as each elf has probably their own taste. The lords usually sport their own colours but it doesn’t have to be a rule - they have multiple outfits and since they have their personal lives as well, I highly doubt they strictly stick to their emblem colour. As for the patterns, they don’t need to worry about the fabric waste so their clothes are probably well fitted and flattering. Lower classes clothes are beautiful as well but have probably much looser fit.

Influences and fashion icons

Now we have celebrities and big name fashion brands to set the trends. However, in the past, the nobility was responsible for that. I assume there were three major trend setters influencing the other lords and citizens: Turgon (the king), Egalmoth (aka the rich one) and Glorfindel (the pretty one). Turgon’s gowns (or…Turgowns? I will see myself out) are usually white with red silk lining and subtle but intricate embroidery, combined with some jewellery. As for the length of the robes it probably varies by the occasion. His style is followed mostly by Penlod, who is very fond of white as well. Egalmoth has a thing for jewels and rainbow colours, which makes his clothing extravagant and lavish. He is probably very fond of embroidery and even his outfits for archery trainings are masterfully crafted. His trademark, however, is the goldwork combined with gemstones and beads (a type of embroidery using metallic threads). His ceremonial attires are very complicated, however many elves struggle to follow his example mostly because of the costs. There are several elves that probably managed to customise his style for their needs - for example, Ecthelion is said to be very fond of diamonds. Since he is the lord of the Fountain and probably very fond of water he usually wears subtle blues adorned with sparkly diamonds droplets imitating the rain droplets. Then we have Glorfindel. If you look at eg. Fingon, we know he wears his hair in braids adorned with gold. I can imagine the Noldor in Valinor were fond of difficult hairstyles which probably persists in Hithlum. Glorfindel decided to ditch this trend once for all and leaves his hair loose for everyone to admire. His garment choices are significantly simpler than Egalmoth’s, he is avoiding long robes and his priority is movement and comfort. His favourite fabrics include linen and subtle brocade, sometimes embroidered. His choices are probably the most popular in the city as they usually reflect the nature (which must make the Sindarin citizens very happy). As for the female trend setters, we have Aredhel (but she has taste very similar to Turgon, the only difference would be probably the pattern) and Idril, who probably prefers loosely fitted garments with subtle jewellery. She is known for her negative attitude toward shoes which might be related to her Vanyarin legacy (I imagine Vanyar wearing very simple clothes unlike the crafty Noldor- their priorities don’t concern material things as much).

Salgant’s last outfit is mostly inspired by the King’s style. The short tunic suggests that he is wearing an informal outfit. The cape is made of silver velvet.

Currently working on: kelsier mistborn cosplay! is the biggest project. but im also working on recording cassettes to play in my car bc my car is from 1998 and doesn't even have a cd player. im sure im working on other projects too but the craft table is a disaster right now so i can't remember

Dragon Age is not the only game franchise I'm obsessed with! I'm a huge fan of the Assassin's Creed franchise and have been running my AC-only blog, @jacob-mydear since 2016. It's on semi-hiatus now, since I'm not as obsessed with AC as I was before, but it's one game fandom I've been in the longest, and it has given me some of my fondest fandom-related memories.

I was so obsessed with 'Assassin's Creed Unity' (the AC game set in Revolutionary France), I planned a solo trip to Paris in 2019 to visit all the historical locations that I had only visited in-game up to that point, in-person. It was such a weird feeling, to feel nostalgic in places that I had never been to in-person, but only 'visited' virtually! I documented my trip in this AC Unity Fran Trip Guide to Paris, in case any other AC fan want to follow in my footsteps, lol~ 😆 Fun fact, I spent so many in-game hours in AC Unity, I could navigate my way around Ile Saint-Louis basically from my memories of the game (Bleeding Effect is real! 😂)

Besides gaming and writing fanfiction, one of my fandom-related hobbies is cosplaying. I have been cosplaying since 2007, even though I've slowed down a lot since the pandemic. My dream cosplays (hopefully I can achieve them this year, if I have the time and funds!🤞) is Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars, and Mage!Marian Hawke from Dragon Age 2.

My earliest fandoms were actually anime fandoms, lol! I too have a dark weeb past 😂😂😂 My gateway animes were Ouran High School Host Club, Fruits Basket, Naruto, Bleach, Katekyou Hitman Reborn, Macross Frontier, Code Geass, Gundam 00, Fate/zero ... (yes I started with that era of anime, haha 😂)

Because of my dark weeb past, I studied Japanese for around 5 years, and my highest JLPT level is N3. I don't speak super fluently but it's enough to get around Japan as a tourist.

I took a few months of French classes, but to be honest, I learnt more from free French language podcasts than I did from that French class 😂

Yes I studied French because, once upon a bygone time, I wanted to work in Ubisoft 🤐 In light of Ubisoft's recent controversies, that desire has dampened considerably haha~

I used to work in broadcast media; I work in the games industry now (just not in Ubisoft lol)

I noticed my favourite characters have names that coincidentally begin with the letter 'A' (Anders, Alistair, Arno, Aloy, Arwen, Aredhel).

I have terrible sense of direction and it takes me min 2.5 seconds to identify left from right 😂

3/3 new Tolkien cosplays from last week.

Eöl wasn’t on my cosplay list, though he’s certainly the type of character I like to cosplay. So when noldorheart (IG) told me that she has long planned on cosplaying Aredhel and especially finishing her cosplay for our the_eldar_cosplay (IG) vacation, Eöl suddenly put himself on my list.

The cosplay is really comfortable for a change, just leather and fabric, and lovely goldiepond (IG) styled the wig for me in a way I could never have ��� I’m helplessly clumsy with wigs and need only look at them to tangle them, so I never do more than a very basic plait. I struggled a lot for quite a while to see Eöl when I did costests, and it was clear to me that he needed a wilder hairstyle which I was absolutely clueless about. So I’m very thankful that goldiepond came up with an idea and did it the evening before our Aredhel & Eöl shoot.

We will post photos of Aredhel and Eöl together soon, of course, but for now here’s one of Eöl alone.

Nan Elmoth family portraits!

I had originally been planning on cosplaying Eöl only, and then was talked into also cosplaying Maeglin (not that much convincing was needed lmao), so then I thought I might as well tackle Aredhel too, and use this as a fun exercise to challenge my makeup skills ^^ I tried to give different facial features to everyone through contouring, eye shape, makeup styles, etc., but also tried to make Maeglin look more like his mom than his dad, given his canon description.

Last Thing I Wrote: A mild crisis of faith for the protagonist of my longfic, where she must decide what to do in a lose/lose situation. I'm a little stressed out on her behalf tbh.
