Day 1 and 2 of Comic Fiesta

A friend of mine was telling me her recent encounter with an actress who was super nice to her fans, and it reminds me of my first time meeting Stephanie Beatriz at Twin Cities Con last month. She was so funny, easygoing, sincere, considerate, and dedicated as a person.

Stephanie was one of the earliest guests that arrived at her autograph table, just a few minutes past 10:00 am, when the exhibition hall opened for the day. There was a bit chaos of the lining arrangement, as the VIP holders got lined up right in front of the autograph table and leading towards the check-in table in the back. Stephanie was confused by the situation and asked a fan in my front about what was happening. After they explained in detail, she joked that they should be in charge. Her voice was already sounded very deep and a bit hoarse, unlike her usual high pitch.

When the line finally went around and back to the autograph table, I saw her kind of frowning at her autograph for one of the first fans (the fan probably said something about the outcome was good) and she made fun of herself, “why am I being so judgmental about my own autograph?”

When it came to my turn, I remember telling her that I just became a fan since Hazbin Hotel but I caught up on Brooklyn 99 later on. Her eyes lighted up and asked me what I thought of the show, and like many fans, I told her that I loved it and now it was my comfort show, and that was why I put together my costume with the elements of both Vaggie and Rosa Diaz. She was delightfully surprised when she registered my full costume, and then I pulled out the prop knife from my belt below the table (you know, like the way Rosa pulled it). She laughed, “ Yep, gonna pull it out of nowhere.”

I’m not going into details of her solo panel and the Hazbin panel, as I have posted all my records of the solo one, and the latter one was posted by someone else on YouTube. I will just note that her voice got more and more hoarse during the back-to-back panels, a lot worse than when I got my autograph. FYI, she said in her More Better podcast recently that she had been sick since she returned from Toronto, which was just a couple of days before this convention. Also, initially her name was not listed for the Hazbin panel in the program, but it was announced right before the panel that she would return for this panel as well.

After the panels, I headed back to the exhibition hall to wait for my turn of photo-ops with Erika Henningsen and Stephanie. Have to say, Stephanie is really tall in person. And Erika was very kind to offer to hold the spear as I was in the middle.

For the one photo taken solely with Stephanie, I asked her if she could hold my prop knife, and in return, she asked me if I wanted to act tough together. After I thanked her and leaving, she said, “you are going to love this one.”

Of course I love how it turns out. A bit background is that all props were inspected outside the exhibition hall and zipped with a hot pink cable tie when passed the check. So I had this long ugly ass zip-ties on both handles of my prop knife and spear. It was easy to get the zip-tie off the spear because the handle was detachable, but not the knife. And I did not have scissors with me. When I handed Stephanie the prop knife, I thought I would need to remove the zip-tie in photoshop later. But Stephanie was so observant and considerate that she hid the zip-tie with her hand by holding on the tip of that handle! Compare the photos above and you will see it. I felt warmth in my heart when I got the print and realized what she did for me.

When I brought the printed photo for the second autograph, the waiting line was insanely longer compared to it in the morning. I was probably in line for more than an hour and a half. One of the volunteers there told me that Stephanie��s line was the second longest of this day, with Hayden Christensen’s being the longest.

I remembered Stephanie’s voice was very much gone when I finally got my turn around 7:00 pm. I handed her the print and she commented, “Look how tough we were.” I told her that I really appreciated her being here today even so with her voice like that, because I was moving to Canada very soon. I further explained that the US immigration process took too long so I opted for another option. She made a 👎 sign, agreeing that American immigration sucked. She also asked me which city I was moving to, and when I replied Toronto, she said that Toronto was the best city in Canada and she loved it there when she shot Twisted Metal Season 2. Finally I thanked her again and she said it was nice meeting me.

The exhibition hall was supposed to close at 7:00 pm, but I heard that she stayed beyond 8:00 pm to finish with all the fans in line, which she did not have to, actually. A volunteer told me on the day before that it was up to the guests how long they decided to stay for the signing. Also, there were guests who pulled out due to sickness or scheduling right before the convention, but she not only showed up but spent the entire day talking to fans, even though she was obviously sick and lost her voice. I mean, this woman really is a super human being, and deserves all the love and praises.

i went to one piece orchestra tonight !!

seeing/hearing kohei tanaka and hiroshi kitadani... was amazing... ESPECIALLY having the honor to listen to we go, over the top, uuus, and we are all live !! literally we are, over the top, and uuus are my FAV one piece openings so clapping and singing along with hiroshi himself was just so... magical.

it made me really happy that i've become a one piece fan 🥹🫶♥️ im a little sad i had to experience it all by myself and i dont know many who are into one piece... but still a wonderful occasion regardless.

i think one of the things that makes the one piece fan letter episode so special is that even though it's ostensibly about 'a letter from the fans to the straw hats' it's also 'a letter to the fans' and its entire message is 'we see you, we are you, and we love you!' from the team

it is, no joke, one of the most heartfelt and beautiful pieces of animation that any studio has ever produced.

it's similar to the 100 volume/1000 episode celebration in that even though the series we're all watching is about these wacky, insane powers and situations, at the end of the day we connect to the story because the emotions it evokes are real, and we might not feel them because our real life talking reindeer son left to join a pirate crew, but there are times in our lives where we've felt the same as the characters whose adventures we're following, even in a different situation

and to have the fans represented in the world, from all ages and walks of life, really is demonstrative of the sheer breadth and depth of the one piece fanbase.

it's genuinely such a special experience to be on this journey with a community of millions. when i see other OP fans in the wild, we've made an instant connection (shout out to that dude in toronto i stopped to chat with for like 20 minutes cause he was wearing luffy cosplay who teamed up with me to talk my friend into trying op!!)-- we might get the series through different mediums, we might connect to it in different ways, we might disagree about quite literally everything, but everyone's ultimately another piece of the puzzle that makes up the whole of the one piece fanbase, and without them we wouldn't be where we are. to have that so lovingly depicted in such a fun, exciting way was amazing!

Trick

Well, for one, Idia is absolutely, positively, against any party whatsoever. He’s not here for the hype week, he’s in it for the candy and showing off his cosplay skills. As such, unless you are in his room at all times, he kind of sucks at communication during Halloween Season. Which means unless you want some alone time (or he kicks you out), you’re bunking with him quite a bit. No matter how much he protests.

You might get dragged into his games, especially with their Halloween events. If even one of them has a co-op or invitation event, you’re pushed into making a new account or joining him. And you must, at least, run dungeons with him 10 times a day. He has to stay at the top of rankings somehow! And you’re his key to that, one that he’s not necessarily willing to give up, either.

He also tends to buy extra candy. What, to give away? No! He’s hoarding this stuff like a dragon and it’s pile of gold. Sure, he’ll give you some, but if he has to play nice, he’s doubling his pay. In gummy worms. Oh, and he gatekeeps any gummies from other people. Not you, of course, you can take as much as you want (as long as you leave him some of the blue raspberry or cherry flavored ones). But, this leads to an excess of candy bags just… chilling in his room now. Not that he tosses them wherever he wants, he has a carefully crafted system, you know. But sometimes there is something known as too much candy.

Treat

Despite all of that, isn’t Idia the best person to hang out with during Halloween? With all his dedication to his costume, it comes out genuinely wonderful. He spent most of his time working on the finer details, one of the truest adaptations of… which character was it again? You’ve heard so much of this character that it feels like your brain has fizzled out. Regardless, his costume is still amazing, you’re a little jealous. And you’re sure you’ll hear much more about the character, and you’ll be subjected to watching the show regardless. Not that you mind.

You are in for a nice and cozy night, however. After the parade is done and Idia’s social battery is thoroughly drained, all he wants to do is either sleep (which he can’t because he’s gorged himself on candy), or finish up the events on his games to make sure he stays at the top of the rankings. Once he’s finally free of his costume (after about an hour…), he takes a couple of minutes in your arms, laying on top of you like a massive pillow, while he mutters something about his costume and what not. After about half an hour, he’s up and at ‘em, back at his game. Perhaps he’s realized how he’s neglected you over the month, and so he does his best to include you in his gametime, whether you choose to play with him, or simply sit on his bed and listen to what he has to say.

Before the sugar wears off, Idia is suddenly cramming in a last minute grind session, hopping from server to server to kill the event’s boss as the minutes tick down. Even as he’s fighting sleep, he’s kicking monster ass and topping the rankings. You can feel yourself slipping into sleep until he jolts you awake with a loud “YEEESSS!”. Almost immediately after that leaves his mouth, he’s apologizing profusely to you in a soft voice, completely forgetting about his game and slinking over with his hands out like he was calming down a scared horse.

With his win secured, he slips into bed easily. Which is earlier then he usually falls asleep, about a couple more hours before. But he’s won top ranking player during almost every event for three years in a row, and perhaps it’s time to celebrate (by sleeping early– and sleeping in even later), and also apologize for waking you up so abruptly.

Must see things on DS9 while on shore leave!

Deep Space 9, simultaneously the most important military outpost in the Alpha Quadrant and the most popular shopping mall this side of Freecloud, has rapidly become a Shore Leave destination to rival Risa. This is your guide to making the most of your leave!

The Promenade

The hub of the station is the Promenade where you can view the station’s many stores. You’ve got gift shops, a tailors to dress up for a night out, the Jumja stick stand, Bat'leth’s R Us and the bowling alley. As far as food or drinks, you’ve travelled around the quadrant in seconds! Choose from Bajoran, Bolian, Klingon, Vulcan, the replimat, and of course Quark’s which we will come back to soon. 

Can’t I just replicate all of this, you ask? Sure but cosplaying ancient capitalism is a hobby so many Federation citizens enjoy these days. Just remember to bring some currency and brush up on the terms you need to “haggle” and “gamble” before you go so you don’t look like an “easy mark” (Have you got advice on how to spend currency? Leave a comment!). If you’re looking for handmade “unreplicated” items, however, get your purchase externally verified before parting with your chosen medium of exchange.

If you’re not someone into aesthetic scarcity, there’s more to do! Opposite Quark’s is the Bajoran temple where you can take in a slice of Bajoran culture. After all, they’ll soon be a Federation member! If your captain has been savvy in scheduling your visit, you may even get a chance to see the Gratitude Festival. Finally, fans of the first Ferengi in Starfleet may want to find a spot opposite Quark’s and dangle their feet over the edge. Enjoy the ambience of Commander Nog’s favourite spot before security moves you along.

Watching the Wormhole

You may be wondering why we didn’t point out the best spot to see the wormhole on the promenade. Well, that’s because the best spot isn’t on the promenade. Every insider knows to head to a vacant upper pylon (our favourite is number 2). Up there you’ll get a beautiful view of what the Bajorans call the “Celestial Temple”. Maybe you’ll have a religious awakening? 

Don’t forget, they say that if you see the wormhole open, you get to make a wish. I guess the dockmaster at DS9 must be a very lucky person by now.

Ops

The nerve centre of DS9 is off duty to casual visitors (such as young ensigns on shore leave) but since the war ended tours have been scheduled twice a day. Visitors will be shown around Ops by a member of the crew and told stories about the events that happened there. You will also get to see inside the station commander’s office including Sisko’s famous baseball. If you’re lucky you’ll catch a glimpse of Colonel Kira! The wait list is very long so book ahead.

Note that holo imagers are not permitted in Ops and the tour may be cancelled at short notice in the event of an emergency situation. For a more in-depth experience, see the “Ops: Battle Stations!” holosuite programme in Quark’s which recreates various dramatic battles from the station’s history.

Quark’s

This isn’t just any Quark’s, it’s the original Quark’s! A bar so good it’s spread across the quadrant like Caitan nip. It’s got drinks, live music, auctions, a Dabo wheel (with some very good-looking Dabo girls and guys to help you part with your currency) and some amazing holosuites (with none of the content filters recently applied to Starfleet Holodecks). This is also the spot where Captain Sisko punched Q!

Those looking for something special should ask after Quark’s private stock. It comes at a premium, but who can turn down some Aldebaran whiskey? Share a glass with Morn who is renowned for regaling fellow patrons with war tales. Meanwhile, Ensigns who have studied under Professor O’Brien at Starfleet Academy might also be looking out for his famous dart board. It’s located just to the left of the bar and you can try it out yourself! See if you can beat O’Brien and Doctor Bashir’s high scores!

Speaking of O’Biren and Bashir, check out Vic’s Lounge in the holosuites. This recreation of an old Earth club was so popular among the crew of DS9 that Bashir kept it running 26 hours a day. The eponymous Vic himself, the proprietor, is a sentient hologram much like Voyager’s EMH. So speak freely and enjoy the vibe of old Earth.

Don’t forget to stop in the gift shop on your way out! 

The Tribble Experience

Something away from the promenade is a Tribble cafe, opened in a cargo bay after the crew of the Defiant brought back the one-extinct Tribble from the 23rd century. Realising they could stop its spread by ensuring they were away from any food supply they managed to relocate the tribbles away from the promenade to a cargo bay. 

Lacking a better idea, they opened an “experience” where you get to pet, play with and roll around a cargo bay with several hundred tribbles. Their cute purrs will calm even the most nervous disposition!

Please note they have a strict no-food policy for all visitors. Anyone inadvertently bringing food into the Tribble Experience will be held legally liable for all the Tribble offspring that result as well as any containment or cleanup costs the station incurs.

Dukat’s Ghost

Several years back, the crew on DS9 triggered a Cardassian self-defense mechanism built into the main computer designed to suppress a Bajoran uprising. While the station locked down and attempted to kill its now Cardassian-free inhabitants messages of the old prefect, Gul Dukat (yes, that Dukat), played on monitors across the station. 

After the program was purged, a bug remained in the system. Head down to level 32, section H. Stand outside the cargo bay there and turn right. Walk to the next junction then left, right then straight on for 12 meters. On your left you’ll see a flickering display screen. At 12 minutes past the hour, every hour, an automated message from Dukat to his Bajoran workers will play. However, the audio generation gets spliced with the general communication system of the station so you’ll get a unique presentation from Dukat. We stayed for 3 hours and heard these;

“Bajoran Workers, I will learn to live with it. Because I can live with it. I can live with it.”

“Bajoran Workers, it is said that in the right hands the Mercury Stone has the power to cleanse the land of evil and bring prosperity to all.”

“Bajoran Workers, come to Quark’s, Quark’s is fun, come right now, don’t walk, run!”

I’m pretty sure people may know I adore this guy. And while I never cosplay typically this might be my favorite picture EVER which says a lot.

I went to his table today to talk to him and get his autograph. And while there’s a video I’m probably keeping it for myself. He's literally a walking ray of sunshine though. But a) he remembered me from yesterday (I did a Punisher/Daredevil photo which I'll also try and post) and b) I was first in line for the solo ops today. And I didn’t tell him about the antlers, which Foggy is seen wearing in the background of one my favorite comic/Daredevil panels ever. So when I held them up he lit up he said, “No you didn’t! Oh my god. You didn’t say this at the table.” And he immediately took them and then asked to hold the cane. He leaned down a bit again and asked, “Is this going to be your Christmas card?” And I said, “I mean it should. Right?” He then said, “Yeah because we look amazing.” So then he thanked me and I thanked him again and I put my hand on his chest cause he was still close and in still in a holy shit daze.

I’m still very much in shock this happened and it’s real life. I really appreciated the time he took with me at the table and that he was willing to let me record the interaction. She Hulk, the show, and Daredevil comics got me through last year. One of the worst years of my life. So to say this is the top meeting….it feels like an understatement. I have a ton more panel pics that I didn't post yesterday, which I might try and post today. But for now I’m just happy Charlie Cox agreed to be my Foggy.

So, I made an Underfell sans jacket…

It basically took me a year to make even though I was actually only making alterations.

This is a motorcycle riding jacket. I added the red reflective stripes, yellow flannel lining, fur to the hood, changed the zipper to gold and the gold grommets, and used a custom zipper pull of Fell Papy’s face.

I had to do a lot of hand stitching because this bad boy broke my sewing machine. Turns out, even with a heavy duty needle, you can’t force a regular machine to stitch through steel wool, leather, and a zipper. Ha.

The design is based off @theskeletongames fell sans design, and this thing is heavy duty. The riding safety pads add that classic bulky figure of sans. Like, ever wonder how he goes from little skeleton to bulky and intimidating one? New head canon, it’s cause he wears a riding jacket. Which is also why it’s so toasty, cause this thing is now my winter coat.

I’m mega ultra excited to wear it around.

Might still go back and add a hidden black vinyl design to the back for extra reflective ability when riding, but I’ve spent waaaaaaaaay too much on this jacket already considering I still need to get the rest of my gear and upgrade from my cute (but speed limited) moped. ^^;

So the Met Gala looks are...interesting this year. You're either leaning into the editorial/avant garde couture or you're being a boring, safe evening gown with "artistic" elements.

The "red" carpet this year. This would be beautiful for Earthshot, if it could be reproduced sustainably.

This is an interesting choice. I think I'd rather have seen something uber vintage from Zendaya but I like it. She's working it.

Jennifer Lopez was a disappointment.

This is an amazing editorial look from Gwendoline Christie, aka Sir Brienne of Tarth. The hair makes it work. The hair is also giving Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter.

I'm really interested to see what Kim Kardashian does. I don't normally care about the Kardashians, but Kim bleached her hair again last week and did so much damage that she ended up with a chemical cut. Taylor Swift is supposedly attending as well so it'll be interesting to see how she dresses up for Tortured Poets Era. Very curious to see what Zac Posen does. His Met Gala looks are usually on point.

After watching Transformers One after a lot of appropriate time (1 A.K.A. One) I'm granted teh title of Tea Ultra Holy White Mage by myself and thus I'm a very expert cinemaphile (A.K.A. Theater Movin' Image Entusiast) and thus I shall give my Xtremely important ~~opinions~~ objectively correct facts about the film:

Ok, this was expected, like everyone knew this, but like, despite like thiz tihs is a cinematic masterpiece, I'm obviously referring to the 71'76 minutes long hot homersexual secsy secs scene between Optimus Prime and D-16. Whot 'cause this to be what we (Kinopholes) consider Kinoma is teh eggcelent koreagrapy and that D-16 announcement of his homerphobia, this iz a so subtle social commentary about society and that Optimus Prime Optimussy isn't enough to fix him, makin' clear that Optimus Prime isn't OP (as OverPowerwd) and has more to learn while also possibly as a foreshadowing for future character development.

Sentinel Prime's character is a big difference between his previous pothrayls bit that's what makes him such a fine character, here he's clearly a legitimate leader and hero, got rid of the previous theocracy and those old foolish dumb stoopid fools that could only talk about old foolish dumb stoopid foolish things, made peace with the Quintessentions (he's a raceist but not racist!!), created a new fairer society, build roads, gave free operations to everybaby, praise the courageous and have a promotion to Optimus Prime, D-16 and B#dassatron!!!!!!

D-16 renaming himself after the nickname he gave Optimus Prime's pener is such an emotional thing!! Much better than naming himself after an incestpus traitor!!

I found bizarre that every time Arcee was showed on screen there was an off-screen cybertronian shouting things like "Mommy Arcee!!" or "Notice me mommy!!", like it's xpecially so uncanny that that unnamed off-screen cybertronian gal sounds exactly like me if I was shouting in a cinema theatree.

It's so heartwarming when Megantron helped Sentinel Prime to do his Jazzz cosplay, the fact that he's deadly allergic to getting snapped in 2 is such an unexpected plot twist!! Thought my complaint is that this weakness kinda is like a reversed deux is machina, like when Sentinel Prime is allergic to that??

Overalls, this is cinema, if cinema was utterly amazing and very toy commercial. Watch this, and yuo will watch this film (which is a masterpiece).
