Clear and Present Danger
Tumblr media
Clear and Present Danger    [trailer]
CIA Analyst Jack Ryan is drawn into an illegal war fought by the US government against a Colombian drug cartel.
When watched today, it feels a bit dated. The political story is largely predictable, and with the exception of the attack on the convoy in the middle, the action scenes are not very gripping.
What still makes it watchable is Harrison Ford's portrait of Ryan as less of an action hero but more of an average and a little naive office worker. At least until patriotism takes over at the end.

For the fic writers asks: 9, 19 and 29!
Wow! I'm surprised anyone actually asked me anything! It's actually been a long time since I've updated any of my fics. They're all unfinished, actually.
Thus, for 9, I'll use my longest running fics: "Ultimate Justice" & "The Tiny Archer". Both are on wattpad and fanfic.net, respectively. I started them around the same time in mid-2016. "Archer" 's last update was in 2019. UJ was about February 2022.
19: What's the most interesting topic researched for a fic?
I mostly researched tech and stuff for the characters and my & my brother's OCs. The later set owed their wealth and power to government positions and owning a private defense firm that you'd expect to see in a Tom Clancy video game. I've looked up so many Wikipedia articles on defense and weapon systems that I know my phones have to be bugged. The one's I liked the most were obscure prototypes for the U.S. Military and Navy. My favorite being the USS Montana: the largest and last class of battleship ever ordered by and approved for the United States Navy.
Link:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montana-class_battleship
((PS: There's also the dark rabbit hole of South American coups and genocides perpetrated by the C.I.A. that I stumbled into when creating a Guatemala-Mayan mystical healing character. I will not be linking those in order to keep things family friendly, but feel free to look them up at your own risk))
((PPS: I also researched a little bit about Greek and Native American Gods in prep for a PJO/YJ crossover and that same Mayan mage chsracter))
29: For titles, I just use what comes naturally in the moment I started writing. For "Ultimate Justice", I just smashed together names of the 2 cartoons. I like to keep things simple; as though they're the subtitles giving on the inside cover of a comic book
I hope this answers your questions proficiently. Feel free to ask more!!

AEW Fake Rankings, 10/20/2024
Men's singles division - babyfaces
Will Ospreay
Darby Allin
Ricochet
Jay White
Mark Briscoe (ROH men's world champion)
Daniel Garcia
Orange Cassidy
Kyle O'Reilly
HOOK
Katsuyori Shibata
Men's singles division - heels
Jon Moxley (AEW men's world champion)
Kazuchika Okada (AEW continental champion)
Adam Page
Konosuke Takeshita (AEW international champion)
Christian Cage
Jack Perry (AEW TNT champion)
Chris Jericho
Kyle Fletcher
Shelton Benjamin
Roderick Strong
Unranked: Aaron Solo, Angelico, AR Fox, Atlantis Jr.*, Big Bill, Bryan Keith, Hologram, Jeff Jarrett, Johnny TV, Juice Robinson, Komander, Lio Rush*, Minoru Suzuki*, Nick Wayne, Rocky Romero*, Serpentico/Jon Cruz, The Butcher
Jobbers: Alpha Zo*, BEEF*, Chris Nastyy*, Cody Chhun*, Jack Cartwheel*, Joe Keys*, Marcus Mathers*, Matt Brannigan*, Olumide*, Ryan Clancy*, TJ Crawford
* Not listed on AEW's official roster webpage
Moxley has declared war on the AEW roster (or at least the men's locker room), and it feels like he'll spend at least the next six months clobbering wave after wave of "complacent" midcarders. Darby Allin is clearly being set up as a major destination for this saga, but I'm not certain if he'll be Moxley's first big challenger, or if he'll be saved for the end like Sting in 1997. There's also foreshadowing of Orange Cassidy and Daniel Garcia stepping up, and I think Hook and Kyle O'Reilly would fit in that role as well. But only one guy can get the rub of dethroning Mox, and we'll just have to wait and see who that will be.
Heading into Full Gear on November 23, the other top programs look to be Jay White vs. Adam Page, Ospreay vs. Fletcher, Takeshita vs. Fletcher, Jericho vs. Briscoe, Garcia vs. Perry, Swerve Strickland vs. Shelton Benjamin, and Adam Cole vs. MJF. I expect Hook vs. Christian Cage will be a thing too, but right now it's just an educated guess that Christian is the one who attacked Hook's father.
Men's tag team division - babyfaces
The Acclaimed - Max Caster & Anthony Bowens
FTR - Dax Wheeler & Cash Wheeler
Private Party - Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen
Dustin Rhodes (ROH trios champion) & Sammy Guevara (ROH tag team champions)
The Outrunners - Truth Magnum* & Turbo Floyd*
Men's tag team division - heels
The Young Bucks - Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson (AEW tag team champions)
Grizzled Young Veterans - James Drake* & Zack Gibson*
MxM Collection - Mason Madden* & Mansoor*
Matt Taven & Mike Bennett
Brian Cage (ROH men's television champion) & Lance Archer
Iron Savages - Bulk Bronson* & Beefcake Boulder*
* Not listed on AEW's official roster webpage
The state of the tag division is this: The Bucks are heel champions with no one to fight. The Acclaimed haven't ever gotten a clean two-on-two title shot all year, but they don't seem to be in a hurry to get it anymore. FTR and Private Party already lost to the Bucks. The Outrunners, MxM, and the Iron Savages are all cool as hell, but they're comedy acts that can't beat anybody. I don't think GYV have been around since they got upset by the Outrunners, which may be a sign that they aren't going to be back. Rhodes-Guevara and Taven-Bennett are big deals in ROH but off the radar in AEW. Don Callis has put Cage and Archer together to chase the tag title, but I don't see that going anywhere as long as the champions are also heels.
I'd like to see Private Party rack up a big win to get back into the title hunt, but I don't see why that should turn out any differently than the title match they just lost last week. So it feels like the division is going nowhere, marking time until the Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi) are ready to feud with the Bucks. Which, I'd be fine with doing that feud, but not if it means keeping the division in deep freeze for a couple more months.
Men's trios division - babyfaces
Malakai Black & Brody King & Buddy Matthews
Action Andretti & Dante Martin & Darius Martin
Dark Order - Evil Uno & John Silver & Alex Reynolds
Men's trios division - heels
Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta & PAC (AEW trios champions)
La Faccion Ingobernable - Rush & Dralistico & The Beast Mortos
Premier Athletes - Tony Nese & Josh Woods & Ariya Daivari
Moxley's running buddies control the trios title, which works out well since all the undercard scrubs they keep beating up can then demand a match and get clobbered in a trios match. This seems to be giving Dark Order and Action-Darius-Dante something to work with, even if it's not much and they have no hope of winning. I think Daniel Garcia and Private Party would be a stronger trio to go after the title, but they're not done yet with Jack Perry and the Young Bucks.
The House of Black is remarkably well protected for a group that never figures into any major storylines. Are they being built up to take the belts from Claudio, Pac, and Yuta? Could Julia Hart return to counter Marina Shafir? Who knows.
I stuck LFI in the trios division because I really don't know what those three guys are going to do, now that they're all in the same team with Jake Roberts. I don't think AEW knows either, so that'll probably lead to a bunch of throwaway trios matches. Hopefully they can at least win those matches, which would keep them ahead of Neese-Woods-Daivari.
Women's division - babyfaces
Britt Baker
Willow Nightingale
Jamie Hayter
Kris Statlander
Anna Jay
Queen Aminata
Nyla Rose
Yuka Sakazaki
Lady Frost*
Trish Adora*
Women's division - heels
Mariah May (AEW women's world champion)
Mercedes Mone (AEW TBS champion, STRONG women's champion)
Kamille
Serena Deeb
Taya Valkyrie
Emi Sakura
Harley Cameron
Robyn Renegade*
Jobbers: Amira*, Brooke Havok*, Zoey Lynn*
* Not listed on AEW's official roster webpage
You'd think Marina Shafir would be running rough-shod over the women's division to lock up its top title the way Moxley has with the men. The problem is that moving the world title would disrupt the Mariah May/Toni Storm/Mina Shirakawa storyline. I guess Shafir could crush Mone, but I don't know if that would do either of them any good. Sooner or later, though, it will become clear that Marina is the woman to beat, which will get awkward if there are too many champions that can't beat her.
As it is, the big programs for the women right now are Mariah vs. Anna Jay, Mone and Kamille vs. Statlander, and, uh, Jamie Hayter vs. Penelope Ford? It feels like there should be more going on right now. But I don't know where Britt and Willow are headed, Deonna Purrazzo and Taya Valkyrie keep doing pre-taped promos about nothing, and Toni Storm is still roaming the world pretending she doesn't know who Mariah May is. After five years AEW's women's roster finally has some real depth, but that only gets the division so far when it only gets 3-4 matches per week.
No televised AEW matches in over 30 days: Abadon, Athena (ROH women's world champion), Brandon Cutler, Diamante, Lee Moriarty (ROH pure champion), Marhsall Von Erich* (ROH trios champion), Preston Vance, Red Velvet (ROH women's television champion), Ross Von Erich* (ROH trios champion), Shane Taylor, Shawn Dean
* Not listed on AEW's official roster webpage
Not much new to report about the wrestlers officially signed to AEW but almost exclusively appearing on Ring of Honor. They're on the shows, they're getting work, it's just that almost nobody hears about it. The worst part is most of these names can't even get booked on an ROH pay-per-view.
No televised AEW or ROH matches in over 30 days: Anthony Ogogo, Angelo Parker, Austin Gunn, Bishop Kaun, Bobby Dutch, Colten Gunn, Deonna Purrazzo, Griff Garrison, Hikaru Shida, Jay Lethal, Kip Sabian, Leila Grey, Lee Johnson, Marina Shafir, Matt Menard, Peter Avalon, Swerve Strickland, Thunder Rosa, Toa Liona, Toni Storm, Vincent Marseglia
The bad news is that I don't know why most of these wrestlers haven't been in the ring lately, but the good news is most of them haven't been completely MIA. Some were around in late August/early September, some are on the show right now but not wrestling, and some are booked for the next couple of weeks. That's what I like to see.
No televised AEW or ROH matches in over 90 days: Colt Cabana, Danhausen, Kiera Hogan, Madison Rayne, Mercedes Martinez, Penta El Zero Miedo, Powerhouse Hobbs, Rey Fenix, Ricky Starks
These are the wrestlers I'm worried about. Colt and Madison seem to be transitioning to backstage roles and/or semi-retirement, so that's okay. But I have no idea why Tony Khan would have Danhausen, Starks, Penta, and Fenix on the payroll and not book them. I realize Penta and Fenix are reportedly planning to go to WWE, but that doesn't mean you can use them to do a few jobs on the way out. Hobbs is supposed to be medically cleared, so I don't understand why he wasn't around for the big Don Callis Family promo on October 16. Hogan and Martinez seem to have fallen off the face of the earth.
No televised AEW or ROH matches in 2024: Adam Cole, Kota Ibushi, Michael Nakazawa, Miro, Penelope Ford, Scorpio Sky, Tay Melo
Cole and Ford just got back and should be returning to the ring imminently. Ibushi has already returned to the ring in Japan and I figure he'll be back in an AEW ring soon enough. I've heard Melo is training to return from maternity leave so it's probably just a matter of time. Nakazawa seems to just be a backstage guy at this point. It was recently reported that Miro requested his release, but evidently he hasn't gotten it. AEW was running hype videos for Scorpio a few months ago but then dropped it, so I have no idea.
Part-time/semi-retired: Alex Abrahantes, Karen Jarrett, Luther, Mark Sterling, Nigel McGuinness, Paul Wight, Prince Nana, Rebel, Satnam Singh, Sonjay Dutt, Stokely Hathaway
I suppose I'll have to move Bryan Danielson into this list, once he's gotten his neck issues worked out and if he can still go on a part-time basis.
Inactive
Adam Copeland (left leg - tibia fracture)
Angel Ortiz (right shoulder - pectoralis tear)
Bandido (left arm - wrist fracture)
Bryan Danielson (storyline injuries - probably to set up legit neck surgery)
Chuck Taylor (left ankle - necrosis)
Eddie Kingston (right leg - tibia fracture, ACL/meniscus tear)
Julia Hart (shoulder - unspecified injury)
Keith Lee (undisclosed injury)
Kenny Omega (diverticulitis)
Killswitch (double pneumonia)
Leyla Hirsch (elbow - dislocation)
Mark Davis (left arm - wrist fracture)
Matt Sydal (right foot - malunion fractures)
MJF (filming Happy Gilmore 2)
Nick Comoroto (hip resurfacing)
Riho (work visa delays)
Ruby Soho (pregnant)
Samoa Joe (filming Twisted Metal season 2)
Saraya (storyline - "incapacitated")
Skye Blue (right ankle - fracture)
The Blade (lower back - herniated disc)
Trent Beretta (neck - hardware removal surgery)
Wardlow (knee - unspecified injury)
I haven't heard any significant updates on any of these wrestlers. Lately it seems like a report will come out that so-and-so is medically cleared, and then so-and-so still sits in the twilight zone for months before they come back. So even if there was news I don't think it would help us estimate when a wrestler will return to the ring.

Extended credits for Museum at Tomorrow episode 5
Below the cut are all of the folks who I used (and asked to be credited) for recordings in Museum at Tomorrow episode 5- specifically, the "This is not for You" recordings.
(The list was too long for podcast episode descriptions)
These recordings were mixed into the soundscape of the show, heavily processed- so you may or may not be able to pick out your voice. Each unique recording is preserved as rhythem, timber, and shape within the episode.
Thank you for your work in creating the canvas of this piece.

From Broken Bow to Calypso - Check-in #2
Did another 18 or 19 episodes, of my Star Trek by Stardate rewatch, so let's recap.
I was really hoping that SNW S3 would be out by the time I got to SNW at all, but that doesn't look like it's anywhere near happening. Ah well, at least I can slot the S31 movie in there where it belongs probably.
1/9/25 - Episode 19 - Oasis Rene Auberjonios! An interesting SciFi story with a cool twist, though the episode is a little slow. Auberjonios is, of course, fantastic.
1/9/25 - Episode 20 - Detained The Quantum Leap Reunion Episode!! I only wish they'd have gotten Dean Stockwell to do a recurring character. Good to finally get some information on the Suliban.
1/9/25 - Episode 21 - Vox Sola Oh hey it's the Angelicaaaaaa Skyler episode. Long before Hamilton was a thing. She's not in it much, though. This episode is genuinely creepy and squishy-gross, feel bad for the actors rigged up in that stuff. I liked T'Pol encouraging Hoshi. Otherwise, honestly this one is a bit slow.
1/10/25 - Episode 22 - Fallen Hero Fionnula Flanagan is fantastic as the Vulcan ambassador. Feel like she could have told Archer and T'Pol what was going on soon but whatevs. A somewhat by the numbers episode but a decent story.
1/10/25 - Episode 23 - Desert Crossing Clancy Brown! Who kidnaps Archer and Tucker, so it's one of those "Main character(s) being held hostage" episodes. The desert lacrosse game is such beefcake pandering. IDK if I buy Trip being the one who almost dies from heat exhaustion rather than the older Archer but w/e. Those two have had it rough between Vox Sola and this lately. Brown's character ends up being a bit of a moral quandry as to whether his actions are justified, I wouldn't have minded finding out what eventually happened to him.
1/11/25 - Episode 24 - Two Days and Two Nights Risa ep, finally! I forget if Archer's "girlfriend" ever came back, but its an uncomfortable subplot that feels unresolved. Can't believe Trip and Malcolm fell for that scam, nor that Hoshi's language guy DIDN'T turn evil on her. Even Travis gets a little subplot, but Phlox steals the show on this one. Sad note, per Memory Alpha this is Ensign Cutler's last episode because the actress died in 2003. I really liked her and would have liked to have seen where things went with her and Phlox.
1/11/25 - Episode 25 - Shockwave, Part I Honestly, good season finale. A real Problem with the colony getting blown up, high stakes on the team being recalled, and the stuff with Daniels works real well. Truly suspenseful ending. ENTERPRISE SEASON 2
1/11/25 - Episode 26 - Shockwave, Part II The way Archer gets back to the present is a bit too convenient, but the rest of the crew taking Enterprise back over was genuinely great, except that they didn't give Travis anything to do. Also could do without Hoshi losing her shirt. But generally, a decent season opener and yay for T'Pol standing up for the Crew and doing a great job while in command.
1/12/25 - Episode 27 - Carbon Creek Still one of the best ENT episodes. Another Don't Think Too Hard About How The Universal Translator Works episode, (Note, I'm going to abbreviate that from here on out) though. I wish the rest of the cast had SOMETHING to do in this ep but it's still a great one.
1/12/25 - Episode 28 - Minefield First actual Romulan contact! A good showcase for Malcolm. Not sure I buy that nobody died in that initial explosion and wow they sure had a lot of control over their space suits in 10 (or 20) seconds, but whatevs. Travis got a small spotlight, looking real serious while steering with a joystick. Middle of the road ep.
1/12/25 - Episode 29 - Dead Stop Despite some gaping plot holes, I like this episode. Though it makes me laugh that there's a Travis subplot that Travis is BARELY IN. I don't think we ever find out who built that station, though. Roxann Dawson not only directed, but voiced the station, as well!
1/12/25 - Episode 30 - A Night in Sickbay A real love/hate relationship with this one. Hate the Archer/T'Pol stuff, in general but especially here. Skipped this episode on my last rewatch as the day I was supposed to watch it, my cat Patchy got a terminal diagnosis at the vet and I knew I couldn't handle the Porthos plotline. Fry jumped up and watched along with me cuddled up in my lap this time, and Fry is almost 15 years old so it was a real bag of mixed emotions watching the episode between remembering Patchy and soaking in some Fry cuddles while Archer was worried sick about Porthos. Maybe I just actually mostly hate the episode at this point.
1/13/25 - Episode 31 - Marauders A straight up Magnificent Seven episode. It was a fine episode, but very by-the-numbers. At least nobody had an episodemance. Trip befriending the kid was a nice subplot, but I question the wisdom of leaving Enterprise blueprints on a random colony. Hopefully he sanitized them a bunch. :p I did like the training sequences and T'Pol getting to do martial combat a lot.
1/13/25 - Episode 32 - The Seventh NGL, I liked the parts on Enterprise and Trip having to deal with being Captain a lot better than the T'Pol main plot on this one. But I guess it is even more explanatory about T'Pol's emotional state. Also, they sure are finding ways to bring Travis along but not giving him much stuff to do! I did like them showing how Trip wasn't really quite ready for full Command yet, and he's just really good at what he IS doing.
1/13/25 - Episode 33 - The Communicator Another foreshadowing the Prime Directive episode, for good reason. Also "hey they really need the transporter" episode… oh and yet another DTTHAHT Universal Translator Works" episode for sure, lol. It was fine. The feeling Malcolm has when he can't find the communicator is ALL TOO RELATABLE though.
1/14/25 - Episode 34 - Singularity The Reed Alert & Captain's Chair episode! I really enjoyed this one. Everyone goes a bit nuts, and everyone has a part in the story, one of the few episodes where it feels a bit more ensamble, up until the end. Not an important episode, but an enjoyable one.
1/14/25 - Episode 35 - Vanishing Point Hoshi disappears, just like her and Travis' characters throughout the show. :p Honestly though, a lot of nicely building mystery and tension throughout the episode. Don't think too hard about the typical ghost problem -- you can put your body through stuff but don't fall through the floor. But all that tension and mystery ends up basically being a hallucination, which makes the ending anticlimactic and kind of disappointing. I guess it sets itself apart from the TNG episode where Geordi and Ro vanish, at least.
1/15/25 - Episode 36 - Precious Cargo Trip gets a new episodemance and it's Padma Lakshmi. Too bad we never see her again. A fairly by-the-numbers episode but T'Pol pretending to be a very strict punishment judge was a fun scene.
1/15/25 - Episode 37 - The Catwalk I love this episode! A genuinely cool threat, the close quarters scenes are well done, and a neat twist with the ship being boarded while all this is going on. Travis gets a little screentime, drops a harrowing boomer story and kudos.
I'm now 7 episodes ahead of my 2/day goal, so I'm pretty happy with that progress and I've got good padding for skipping a couple of days if need be.
...okay, back again in a week or so.

I Am Deeply Saddened By The Death Of Actor James Earl Jones

Ironically, James Earl Jones’ character in the Film adaptation of Clear And Present…

Patriot Games is a more than serviceable thriller, perhaps a bit out of date when viewing it now, but still a very effective good against evil piece. The source material is so dense and intricate it was always going to be hard to condense that into a 2 hour movie, but I feel the makers manage to keep it fleshy whilst making the respective characters interesting and watchable. The acting on show is more than adequate, Harrison Ford is great in the role of Jack Ryan, he manages to portray him as a sensitive family man who can step up to the plate when things get ugly, and Anne Archer is solid enough as the wife and mother caught up in the web of nastiness unfolding. The baddies are led by the brooding Sean Bean who is a little under written, whilst Richard Harris is sadly underused. However, the action set pieces make their mark and thankfully we get a riveting...

Checked: One night was all it was meant to be between Clancy 'Wilde Man' Wilder and me until I saw two pink lines on the pregnancy test. How did the notch on my belt turn into a ball and chain?
Iced: My longtime crush, a notorious hockey player, offers to be my pretend boyfriend at a dreaded family reunion. How do I protect my fragile heart when the lines between fantasy and reality blur with our first kiss?
Blocked: Attending the same college as my first love, who also happens to be my brother's best friend and a goalie on the hockey team, is harder than it seems. Everywhere I go, he seems to appear, stirring up old feelings that are best forgotten.
Hooked: Avoiding bad boy hockey player Marshall Winters has been one of my goals since he did me wrong four years ago. However, with both of us attending the same university and his younger sister being my best friend, it's damn near impossible.
Tripped: With my ex and I playing hockey for the same university and running in the same circles, I can't seem to avoid him, no matter how hard I try. I've got goals, and giving Donovan Archer a second chance with my heart isn't one of them.

Cassie:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Archie was so excited about our baby! We barely spent any time apart, he was always fussing over me. I felt loved, I felt wanted but still in the back of my mind I wondered where Johnny was. I hoped he was okay, that he just needed a break from everything and that he would get in touch eventually.
Tumblr media
During my second trimester, Archie was extremely attentive! He couldn’t keep his hands off of me and I wasn’t complaining. Being with the man I truly loved and carrying his child was a dream come true for me. When we found out that we were having a boy, I was so happy, a mini Archie to raise and love. I found myself picturing our son in my head, the mirror image of his father, handsome and charming!
Tumblr media
Archer Clancy was ever so charming! I loved him more and more every day, I never thought it could be possible to love him more, but it grew the longer we were together.
Tumblr media
ARCHER: We have to start thinking about names!
CASSIE: It’s early days Archie! We have plenty of time!
ARCHER: I have some ideas, you wanna hear them?
CASSIE: Sure, why not?
I was anxious to hear his suggestions, men aren’t really that great at this stuff as a rule. If my dad had his way I’d be Cornelia Goth II and Alex would have been Gunther Goth III! But to my surprise, Archie wasn’t half bad at picking out names!
Tumblr media
ARCHER: I was thinkin’ maybe he could have Bret Mortimor as his middle names...
CASSIE: Middle for sure, he’s not taking my father’s name or yours, just so we’re clear!
ARCHER: We are, definitely! I was thinkin’ of Lincoln? Or Harrison? Or maybe Blake...
CASSIE: All of those sound great! I’ve got to hand it to you Archie, those are pretty good choices!
Tumblr media
ARCHER: You sound surprised!
CASSIE: I know, and I really shouldn’t be surprised by you! You’ve never let me down yet!
ARCHER: And I never will Cassie, you can always count on that!
