So, anyway, I own an Apple IIe now...

It's in working order, but Drive 2 sounds very ill, some keys stick (Y, P, ~, C, Cursor Down) and the PSU needs new X2 caps. New solder station arrives tomorrow so I can do just that!

The program EVERYONE writes in any language ever.

As someone not from North America, an Apple II of any kind is completely unchartered territory. They were not that popular outside of the US and Canada. I have a LOT to learn about this thing.

This was the first Apple product I ever used. My elementary school had 3 or 4 of them. I played an awful lot of Carmen Sandiego on them.

My dad got an aftermarket modem for our Apple //e computer back in the day. While my brother was on bulletin boards and active in the very start of the internet, I exclusively used it to call up the county library catalogue and request holds and transfers of whatever titles or dewey decimal numbers had caught my attention that week. I spent many happy hours at that black and green screen.

I guess we're both nerds, but he's forever my Cool Older Brother. (Sorry I stole your They Might Be Giants and REM cassettes when you went to college.)

Oh my darling, what music we made and what games we played.

Got a new 74LS125AN for the Disk ][. Exercised the drive mech, adjusted the speed to exactly 299rpm using MECC Computer Inspector and, voilà, I now have an Apple //e with a working Disk ][!

I didn't even test any other portion of the drive. I've watched enough Adrian's Digital Basement where I just now assume 74LS = bad. Turns out, that's exactly what was wrong.

I then spent the best part of four hours messing around in BASIC, specifically from this book.

I have various ideas for fanart but unfortunately only have time and strength to make simple doodles. At least this guy's fun to draw. Also the codec thing is kinda shamelessly traced from a screenshot of gameplay
