Just as the grand festival is almost here, Rin, who is running late, Shiemi, who is always on time; and Yukio, who is basically a clock; are tasked with defeating the Phantom Train. Naturally, Rin’s listening skills are far from perfect and things go awry and then Rin meets Usamaro, a child like rabbit demon no one knows. So, till the festival is done, Rin is tasked with watching after Usamaro.

Your takeaway on the Blue Exorcist Movie, if you watched it?

I have watched it, and I highly recommend it.

The movie is in a strange place between canon and not what with all the new characters it introduces who are canon (Cheng-Long Liu and Usamaro in particular come to mind) and the fact that it covers a story from a volume extra (the spirit train.) But I think it fits in tremendously well with the canon of Blue Exorcist. Nothing in it, except maybe the fact that Rin knows Liu, seems to grate hard against the canon of the manga. And let's be honest, Rin wouldn't remember if he'd met Liu or not before with how terrible he is with names and faces.

The animation is colorful and well done without a lot of the gremlin shot you get in the first season where there wasn't budget or care to keep the background (and sometimes even foreground) characters on their model. Each of the characters personalities are captured well and painted warmly so that I don't think anyone would have a complaint of their favorite character being painted ooc which is a common (justified) complaint of the anime extra/filler episodes.

The introduced demons are fun (MOLB and Usamaro being particular favorites) and you get a closer look at the seals and protective magic used around the Academy. There are more shots of the Tokyo Field Office, some cool Arias, and a story at the center of it that will make you cry which (in my opinion) beautifully reflects a lot of the themes throughout aoex.

If you haven't seen it, I recommend seeing it, but I'd also recommend a tissue box while you do. It made me cry and it's something I love rewatching.

!!! The movie's background art of the city Blue Exorcist is set in really shows the grand scale of the places there, as well as the unique structural details! You can feel the Mephisto "essence" through it (it's technically his city, I think).

The city is True Cross Academy/Campus Town, and you're right! It shows us a lot of locations and a lot of cool details we don't really see elsewhere.

Lewin Light makes a comment about a lot of borrowed architecture and design from all times and places being used in the Academy town, and the movie shows us a lot of that. It's absolutely a Mephisto touch, and come across fantastically in the movie.

That is also probably the thing I'm most excited about with the upcoming game. The chance to really explore the city and all the locations. ( ♡ω♡ )

what do you think about transmasc Shura? Or just trans Shura in general? I've been thinking about it a lot recently and I would love a specific study on her character through that lense, especially since her backstory and arc is really intriguing to me. I don't believe her character will ever go that direction in canon lol, but I think in fanworks there's a lot of freedom to explore what that could be like, and I wanted to here your thoughts?

Honestly I love trans headcanons even if they don't have "canon evidence" to support them, but honestly I can see why Shura is such a good character to fit a trans hc either way. Like being forced into a life you didn't ask for, a body that isn't really your own? It echoes a lot of trans people's experiences so I really get it, I can tell exactly why one would like the headcanons

Like I do headcanon her as transfem even though it doesn't "work" with her story as some say (I would disagree, there's loopholes to everything. But I digress) her character just has so much about learning about herself and changing her fate so it's so fitting for any trans concepts regardless

I love the headcanons. Even though I've seen some naysayers claim it can't work because "it doesn't fit her canon wah wah wah" (loud incorrect buzzer), personally I find the way she resonates with so many trans fans (myself included) pretty awesome

Sorry if I just basically repeated the same thing over again, I feel some moral obligation to make my answers as long as I can think lmao

Tl;dr - Trans Shura (whether transmasc, transfem, or nonbinary) is fucking epic and makes sense if you view her story through the eyes of a trans person
