yk the worst thing about the iwtv adaptation? antoinette. not because she is a homewrecker but because she is a woman. in the books the homewrecker is a 19yo loserboy called antoine. we really did not see two gay men fighting for their slutty boyfriend. and claudia shaming them for it.

Unrequited Love
Valenfangs ~ Day 9: Unrequited Love
He stood and came to sit opposite me and I ignored him at first, but the longer he sat there, still watching me silently, the less I felt I could hold back saying anything. I ended up asking him what he thought he was doing and all he responded with was that he was watching me. Obviously. I could already see that. I demanded he tell me what it was he wanted from me. He said it’s not what he wanted from me, but that he wanted me. He said he could tell I wasn’t happy with my life, and that he could take me from this horrid place - by that he meant the bar we were in - and promised to give me a better life. But ultimately he did more than that, he gave me the world.
He gave me him.
Now, for the first time in my life I had somebody who actually wanted me. Not even my own flesh and blood back in Paris wanted me. No one did. And then this man came into this sorry excuse I called my life and gave me something better. He wanted me when no one else did. He bought me everything I could have ever desired, he urged me to play the piano, to compose. He believed in me though I never understood why.

Wait. I was watching a reaction to the IWTV movie and just noticed that when Claudia goes to "make peace" with Lestat he says "And I'll tell you something else. I've found someone who'll make a better vampire than both of you".
So Antoine actually exists in the movie universe 🥰 I guess Lestat just never got to turn him.

This is how Antoine is described in Prince Lestat:
Taken up by whores and patronesses of the arts alike, he traded upon his looks: jet-black wavy hair, very white skin and famously deep blue eyes and a baby Cupid's bow mouth that others liked to kiss and touch with their fingertips. He was tall but gangly, fragile looking, but notoriously strong, able to land a punch with ease to break the jaw of anyone who might try to harm him.
~ Chapter 7: The Story of Antoine - Prince Lestat
So basically he looks a bit similar but there are still some notable differences between them.
Question for the VC community:
What does Antoine looks like?
Based on what I remember, he resembles Louis (I don't know how much) but I would expect he looks a lot more younger and chubbier than how I imagine Louis looking very mature and composed with a gentleman look.
This is what the comic gave us but he clearly resembles Lestat much more than Louis here.
Or maybe he only share a few physical resemblance like hair colour etc or maybe he's also just a wet cat. I would appreciate a more thorough explanation to anyone knowledgeable.

Thanks! Btw, which characters would you say are the most relevant through all of TVC? Because it's so hard to tell with Anne going back and forth with them and also writing people who only appear for one book like Gretchen and Dora. 😭 Even her best boy Lestat barely appeared on TVA and Merrick? I get he was sort of comatose, but still. I want to know what faces I can expect the most. 🤔Armand and Lestat are my top 2, but I also looooove all the ladies (minus Akasha, tho I did like the role she played on TQOTD, I just didn't support her). And what is Armand's house exactly? I hope Sybelle and Benji are still with him because I loved that little trio of theirs too. 💗
Hm...most relevant, what is relevance? The characters most relevant to the plot are not necessarily the most deepest or most thematically coherent.
Benji was a way more important character than I think anyone was expecting, lmao. Not until the PL books, but still! The witch crossovers (Merrick/BF/BC) are populated mostly by new characters and Mayfair characters, and honestly don't get too attached to them; it would be easy not to notice those three existed if you skipped right from Blood and Gold to Prince Lestat. The PL books also have a ton of new characters, but some of them are very dear to my heart (Rhoshamandes and Benedict, aka the Marius and Armand satire couple).
As for returning characters, Marius and Gabrielle remain important, and Sybelle is around and doing great (: PL starts out with Armand and Louis living in New York with Benji and Sybelle, and it's pretty charming. (I've seen people claim that Armand and Louis were Just Very Good Friends at Trinity Gate, which is a cute and funny thing to say) They even pick up a stray fledgling of Lestat's, Antoine, who is just the saddest wettest little kitten in the world 🥺

going through the tvc books without watching the show (just finished totbt) and i'm so curious that, like. i've gotten the impression through osmosis that the romance in-show feels more explicit + monogamous + significantly less... entangled than the books? or at least entangled in different ways. i'm not sure if i'm correct, but your post referencing ship goggles made me go oh no :( because i'm enjoying lestat's insane way of falling in love with everyone he meets so far, as well as just in general. the mess.
At least the show is still full of general mess? You could not fairly accuse it of not being messy, but it does feel much more monogamous and the lines between Romance and other kinds of love are much more clearly delineated. You will not believe what they did to Antoine, even if you have read all of my complaining about it. It has to be experienced. I personally don't think the showmances have much to do with the books overall- even Loustat have almost entirely different problems! Louis knows Lestat has more money than him the whole time and doesn't even have a chance to think he's a gold digger! He admires and is infatuated with him for some time as a human and then they get married and it's dysfunctional and abusive. They're soulmates but they're bad for each other but they can't quit each other etc etc etc. It's still fun, but I was a little sad about it. I will say my doomsdaying about Nicki specifically is thus far unwarranted because he did get multiple mentions in season one, which suggests to me that they want to make that relationship significant and he may be protected from the otp rays by virtue of being dead and in many ways a Louis prequel. We haven't had Lestat POV yet so technically it's possible he will fall in love a bunch, but based on what I've seen I don't think it's likely. The writers have said they want to keep Louis as a more prominent character, and I am extremely excited for that but I doubt Lestat will have nearly as many love interests. It's always possible they'll just give Louis more love interests as well while keeping them in a kind of enmeshed exes obsessed with each other situationship for a few seasons but I'm not holding out too much hope.
#it's a super fun adaptation! but a very loose one which is apparently a controversial statement but w/e true and obvious nonetheless#press says iwtv

Hi! 2, 10, 12, 22 and 23 for the salty ask (tvc fandom) 😁😁😁😁
2) Lestat & Armand! I can't picture their dynamic in a way that presses any of my buttons.
10) Okay so the only book I couldn't bring myself to finish was Memnoch, but in terms of arcs within books I otherwise enjoy: like everyone else, could not get into the replimoids, I wish we had just stuck with ghosts and witches as our non vampire supernatural creatures, and I cannot take QotD's plot seriously in the slightest. Love QotD for it's character work, cannot handle either the present day Akasha story or the many many pages of backstory.
12) I feel like SO many depending on the section of fandom. So first, unironic totb stan here! I know some people didn't love the talamasca and psychic shenigans but I think that actually did work as a way of expanding the TVC world without getting too far astray. Also won't say I liked blood canticle but I think if you can push through the sillier and stranger bits it has some good lines.
Character wise: Not unpopular with our section of fandom lmao but in a broader sense, Marius & Armand in Venice. I don't view it as abusive or predatory (beyond what you could argue about any vampire/human relationship, I guess), I just think it's romantic and tragic in how brief they had each other.
22) I'm not really someone who actively dislikes any characters in media, I'm usually just indifferent if a character doesn't appeal to me. So in terms of characters I just don't understand the interest of, personally: Akasha is just deeply boring to me as a character outside of her impact on other characters like Marius and Pandora.
23) Okay assuming Marius is too popular to fit here: Antoine, Zenobia, Goblin (I feel bad for him...)

I mean are they gonna completely get rid of all those characters lestat hooks up with though? I think what’s causing all this anxiety about Jacob on the show is that you can’t really keep most of the storylines from the books and NOT have him be a supporting player at best. All these stories are about Lestat and his ho of the month. Either that or they scrap a lot of stuff in the books post TVL. Also it was the initial casting call that says Louis was a 2 season role vs lestat 5. Way before Jacob was ever cast. Also personally I’d rather he leave the show so I can stop watching then see him get pushed to the side and only show up one episode a season to be exasperated w/ Lestat.
I know you probably intended for a lot of this to be rhetorical and/or more of a general talking point, and I want to first point out that I totally get where you're coming from, and I next want to point out that if my answer here isn't extremely detailed, it's because I do feel like most of what I have had to say I have already said. I don't -- I don't actually know anything, I'm making guesses (educated ones, mind you! but guesses nonetheless) and am doing so with optimism because I simply have to for my own sanity.
What I will say about "Lestat and his ho of the month" stuff is that in a mostly complete (but not totally complete) list of Lestat's loves that I made on the last list (Nicki, Gabrielle, Louis, Akasha, David, Dora, Gretchen, Rowan, Antoine), we know that Nicki is dead; Nicki is in the past and while his story will be told, it's over. Antoine is Antoinette, we know that fate, and, as I said in the previous asks, whatever weird stuff Lestat has with his mom will (most likely) not be explored on a romantic level given the audience and network. That leaves us with Louis, Akasha, David, Dora, Gretchen, and Rowan really.
We know Louis. Love of Lestat's life. Soulmate. His muse!
Akasha is going to happen in a non-romantic, no doubt horrific, way.
Dora and Gretchen are not important. I don't say that trying to be mean or whatever, but they simply are not important. The stories they are part of can truly happen without them and I feel like it would be a waste of television time to try to work in their minor roles.
Rowan, as I stated in the last ask, is something Anne says she regrets. I hope, out of respect for Anne and for good storytelling, they don't even consider it. I also, however, have far less faith in Mayfair continuing long enough to ever even get to that point though so...
And then there's David. David is only important in TVC for his contributions of storytelling the other vampires' lives. There have already been a lot of theories that David won't ever come to exist within the show and his work will be relegated to Daniel and/or Louis as a means of keeping Eric in the show as well as Jacob. I think it would make more sense to give most to Daniel and work it from there, but either way, I hope these theories hold some truth and I never have to actually see David Talbot and that mess on screen.
I also think there is a lot to have Louis be part of if they choose to. Louis is always in Lestat's life, even when Anne was pushing him to the side, and I don't think it would be hard to make him a constant. I also have a theory that Trinity Gate (the place Louis lives with Armand at for, like, almost 15 years in the book and he's away from Lestat during) is sort of what we're witnessing in Dubai and, therefore, is not yet another era of separation for Loustat. Again, just a theory, but one based in educated guesses.
I could go on as to what I think Louis may be up to in later seasons, but I truly don't really know. I feel like we'll all have a better idea post-season 2, but I really do believe we're going to have him long-term. I wouldn't just be saying that if I didn't believe it. In fact, if there's one thing I believe above all else, I believe that this show cannot succeed without both Sam and Jacob. They are both amazing and beautiful actors individually, but together they are something else entirely and people will notice the lack of it and people will be upset by it should it not be in the show.
As for your last bit, I didn't know the original contracts were like that; I think it makes sense, I get why they did it, and I can talk about that too. But I also don't think Rolin Jones is going to say all he did without intention of backing it up, especially because the fandom is loud enough to call that shit out were it to happen.
And lastly, I do agree; if the show were to sideline Louis dramatically in the way the books do, I would also want Jacob to go somewhere where he's appreciated and his talents are being used and he can show off his beautiful skills and face. But I also truly believe the show wants to utilize him as an actor and see the worth of him. I do. And I hope I'm right there because to be proven wrong would be a devastation.

Heyy since you speculated how you think the show may give some of David's role to Daniel and/or Louis which 1000% absolutely agree, no one wants to see that nasty pedo, I wonder if you think the show is gonna keep all his female love interests? cause removing david {plus the show has already genderbent antoine}, you get a situation where lestat is seen mostly just attracted to women except nicki & louis (who are basically sensitive soft boys and mirrors to each other)?
Even in s1, lestat is just with a bunch of women and louis... s3 will probably be lestat with a bunch of women and nicki. and I kinda go back and forth on whether the show is doing this cause it wants to appeal to the white hetero woman demo or if its commentary about patriarchy just works better if he was seen primarily with women.
i honestly do not remember most of his female love interests lol they were mostly crash test dummies who loved jesus..w the exceptionsof a few like akasha, rowan and the scientist chick (?) i think nick and lou r different from eachother in key ways... ya in part theyre sensitive emo boys but also the fact that they both resent lestat for how ‘easy things come to him’ while also loving him in part for his seemingly endless capacity for Greatness. where louis is more adoring/worshipful as he met lestat as his vampire benefactor, nicki’s view is complicated by meeting lestat as a troubled young man, and he can never quite reconcile those 2 images of lestat the way louis manages to do so [or was killed before he could?] tldr: nicki and louis emo boys but nicki fr bout that goth life while louis makes pinterest boards #Poserprettyboy. all in all, they do cement a certain Type(tm) lestat has in men just as he do in women… lestat lovess the troubled , period, in part bc they make him feel less alone in his struggles, and he must have them in all their sorrow& wonder . what i heard of the mw adaptation it seems like thats where amc got the str8 white women on lock [correct me if im wrong] where iwtv/the tvc adaptations have a much more fluid open range of audiences the showrunners want to court but amc isnt rly marketing it that well so its harder to discern. i think w/e female love interest/s is relevant to w/e narrative the showrunners intend to create will be utilized, but they certainly will not supercede louis’s character or lestatxlouis’s relationship as theyve made it p clear that they intend to focus on them

hey bro love your posts never stop entertaining us pls
random ass question whats your favorite minor character from tvc?
Thank u ❤️❤️ 😁😁
this is a touch question lol bcus I have so many favorite minor characters, I’m a tvc minor character fanatic. I can’t choose one so I’m just gonna list of all my fav minor characters lmao.
I love Khayman hes so real. He reminds me of a socially anxious large dog who just really wants to make friends but he keeps scaring them off 😭. That part in queen of the damned where he reacts to the popularity of vampires in pop culture like a kid seeing themselves represented in tv for the first time was so funny omh i was living. Vampire from ancient Egypt buys Dracula cosplay bcus he wants ppl to like him was a genius idea thanks Anne rice. Khayman just, his whole personality reminds me of a character who’d be in what we do in the shadows he’s so inspired. Omg remember when he was so excited to go to lestats concert and meet other vampires and then he’s inside for two seconds, instantly gets overstimulated, and then sits outside for the rest of the time 😭 Khayman might be me guys.
I also love Fareed and Seth 😭😭. I love that Anne rice casually wrote an ancient Egyptian vampire and a modern day Anglo Indian vampire falling in gay love with each other and funding an unhinged vampire mad science hospital, and the Egyptian vampire is AKASHA’S SON 😭😭. the reveal that Akasha has a living vampire son who has been quietly living under the radar for the entire book series just practicing science and pursuing his passion for healthcare alongside his long term partner had me clapping and cheering I stg. They also have sm personality 😭 especially Fareed he’s so iconic. This bitch tricked lestat into giving him his sperm for cloning experiments and he served cunt while doing it. I love that they raised Lestat’s clone son as their gay dads, just so much there. Fareed and Seth u will always be famous
BENJI MAHMOUD!!! I love him sm. I’m also a big fan of sybelle but Benji occupies my mind a concerning amount. Like what kind of character?? There is sm going on with him. First of all he’s Bedouin and Palestinian and then he’s human trafficked to America by an insane man who wants him to be the house slave and take care of his disabled sister second of all he’s twelve and he’s a canon genius and he chain smokes to cope with his insane life third of all he is turned into a vampire by Marius and grows up into an immortal child who’s unfazed by being twelve for ever bcus hes such a chad it doesn’t affect him and he becomes a rich and famous business owner who wears fedoras and runs a vampire podcast and he single handedly kickstarts the plot of Prince lestat and causes the vampire government to happen bcus hes such a good activist he convinces all the characters to be better. Anyways wtf. Also I love sybelle she’s such a darling ❤️ Benji and sybelle and Armand’s little family is everything to me.
DENIS??? Wtf even was that. On a similar note Antoine. I love them both bcus they r incredibly interesting and rlly sad and they reveal so much evil about my fav characters anddd they both happened to be unforgivably butchered by the amc show ❤️
andddd last and also least haha kidding, Benedict ❤️. I feel so bad for him 😭but he’s also so real. Ben was the guy who Magnus manipulated and pretended to be friends with and then he chained him up and forced him to turn him into a vampire 😰. I love the concept where he was the first and only vampire to ever be “raped” by his fledgling, and I feel bad that all the other vampires treat him like shit for it 😭. He’s just a little guy. He’s such a pillow princess also. I can’t count all the times in Prince lestat where Bens described as lounging gracefully on the bed or whatever. Forever twink and hashtag loving it. What a dude

I'm here to say that Antoine needs more recognition and love. My man never did a single bad thing, it's always just wrong place wrong time with him, that's all. Like, he's genuinely so unproblematic and he's just so sweet imo I love that bitch.
#i get why he's not widely recognised#but regardless#i adore antoine and so should you#this is your sign to give him some love and appreciation#again i fully understand why there isn't but i wish there was more of antoine#i just love him#(in case you couldn't tell)#clearly like lestat i have a love for sad long dark haired french men who also sometimes play violin as a bonus#and i'm more than okay with that 👌#sad bois for life#antoine#vampire chronicles#tvc#my vampire chronicles

ALL OF THIS.
Esp. since Lestans LOVE to act like Lestat in IWTV should be seen sympathetically, when that was NEVER the point--he's SUPPOSED to be this "goblin monster torturing Louis;" a villain Louis is trying hard to PRETEND he didn't always love, even at Lestat's WORST. The show heightens the effed up things Les does, but stays true to the atmosphere of how toxic Loustat's dynamic in IWTV was, before their relationship changes/IMPROVES in the (much) LATER books.
So-called book readers & their fans/followers keep going on & on about how AR's vampires aren't monogamous, and polycules are book canon, and blah blah--that is a LIE.
Lestat's "paramours/lovers" fall off the face of the frikkin earth in the PL Trilogy--there's no Dora, no Quinn, no ROWAN MAYFAIR stfu; David is barely mentioned, Antoine is barely mentioned--AR/Les (even Amel!) dgaf about anyone but LOUIS.
Cuz Loustat is CANONICALLY married in the final Prince Lestat trilogy. Les is VERY explicit that his 4 most precious people (still alive) are his mum Gabrielle, his son/clone(?) Viktor, his surrogate father/mentor Marius, and his Blood Spouse LOUIS. (Which explains what happens to the 4 of them in the last books--iykyk).
Louis wasn't even genuinely interested in Armand in the books either, except as a rebound. Loumand was never taken seriously by AR, and Lou is NEVER paired up with anyone else either (Daniel is Nicki 2.0, mentally ill for the bulk of the franchise, and is mostly paired with MARIUS rather than Armand--those 3 become a polycule, yes). Danlou is never a thing in the books, and AMC & Jacob clearly say Louis sees AMC!Daniel as another brother--another PAUL.
Hate Lestat cuz he's a p.o.s. Hate Louis cuz you're a racist. But stop deluding yourselves (and most importantly: everyone else) by tryna act like AMC will ditch Louis and have Les be with someone else/different/"better." This is LDPDL we're talking about: there is no one better than him in TVC, and he's not white and he doesn't have long hair--stay mad. 😎
This is the fucking loustat show ☝️
Yeah, I'm bringing back this Jacob's interview to remind some of you bitches to put yourselves in your ass place.

people really need to consider the annoyed responses to ep 5 from old/book fans perspective to understand why the annoyance exists
First IWTV Adaptation: the one with Cruise and Pitt. Overall a decent movie but throughout the whole thing they’re basically screaming NO HOMO, even when you get to the bits with Armand and Louis where it’s just blatantly homo. (ALSO WHAT THEY DID TO ARMAND’S HAIR...RIP....)
Second TVC Adaptation: Queen of the Damned. Absolutely horrendous. A complete clusterfuck. GOOD SOUNDTRACK THOUGH. The most heinous crime ofc is how they NO HOMO’D every queer character from the storyline. Nicki? He’s just a random lady Lestat met once. Armand? Louis? Practically non-existent. In fact, the romance scene between Louis and Lestat is replaced with a woman.
Current TV Adaptation: OH MY GOD THEY’RE FINALLY GAY!........wait but one of them is a husbandbeater now?? Are you fucking kidding me!
We’ve been waiting for like 20 yrs for an adaptation that isn’t “no homo”, but when we finally get it, it’s not just a bit messy or toxic like the books, it outright has one of them beating and SAing the other one almost to death. (vampires drinking from other vampires is a sexual act in-universe)
It’s weird to me how people aren’t seeing the problem here. A canon queer couple that’s existed for like 40 years finally gets to exist on screen, but the interpretation is of one of them (who is the protagonist of the whole series no less lol) just being an outright blatant violent spousal beater.
Like ofc we’re annoyed? Media has been no-homoing us for decades and when they finally decide to be outright gay with the story, it’s only to make this 40 yr old neglected pairing into something that no one in their right mind can support.
also it really feels like society, the media runners, and the fandom are saying “if we’re going to make the gay ship canon it needs to be as violently abusive as possible because gays just like that lol”
and lots of people saying “vampires just like that!! horror just like that!” but all I’m hearing is “gay men are incapable of not beating each other up.”
#amc interview with the vampire#interview with the vampire#the vampire chronicles#tvc#iwtv#I'm only tagging thisto share with people sympathetic of my view btw#I don't want to hear any justifications for the shit I had to sit through in ep5 lol#not just about Loustat either#it's just a fucking mess#why is Killer there#why is Claudia Babyjenks#why does this episode exist just to see black bodies abused#why is even Daniel and unlikable POS this episode#also I didn't realise Antoinette was meant to be Antoine and I don't like that either#would it have killed you to have multiple queer men in one story???#apparently so since the only way you could stand writing it was to have them beat the shit out of each other#after going on and on about how invested they are in the books and the love story#lol ok#TVC fandom baited by shitty media runners once again
