Just read a reddit thread and the op said "just realized that Snape only begged Voldemort for Lily's life, not James and Harry"
Yes, and I'd do the same. Why would Snape beg for Potter's life when Potter spent their school years verbally, physically, and sexually abusing him? Why would he beg for the life of a man he despised? Or the child who Voldemort wants dead, because that would end with Severus dead and, y'know, no spy for the Order.
Voldemort only agreed to let Lily live because Severus, who brought him a snippet of the prophesy, asked, and he bestowed that "gift" on Sev for his loyalty and dedication to the Death Eaters. If Sev then stretched whatever minuscule good will he had with Voldy by asking for James (his actual abuser) and the prophesy child (the child Voldy thought was a very real threat and wanted dead due to his insanity) he'd have been AK'd before he could blink, and then where the fuck would the order be without Severus Snape, spy extraordinare?
Harry would have diedvor been seriously injured first year when Quirrelmort was cursing his broom because the only one doing something was, you guessed it, Severus. Snape. All the other teachers were gaping with their thumbs up their arseholes. Because most of the teachers at hogwarts are. useless.
Severus Snape is not a good person, even I as a Pro Snape Simp Bitch can admit that. He's cold and cruel and caustic, but he is a great man. He more than deserved his redemption arc. He sacrificed everything in the name of love to protect the reckless idiot Harry James Potter and risked his life and literal soul to do as Dumbledore bid, as casting the killing curse actually marrs the soul, y'know.
You don't have to be a nice person to deserve redemption. You just have to be good and do the right thing.

Sometimes I wonder if JKR even realises she wrote Snape as a victim of sexual assault. Because he unambiguously is, and she writes him as traumatised by the incident. So it seems mad to suggest that she might not have thought through the implications of her own writing, but if she did get it, I am baffled by how sympathetic she remains to James. Harry is never really made to confront how vile his actions were, because he looks for comfort from Remus and Sirius rather than telling Hermione who would react in horror and disgust, and he gets to skip over it completely in The Prince’s Tale. JKR clearly considers James a hero, and has confirmed that in interviews. She’s even more sympathetic to Lily, who is portrayed as an absolute paragon of goodness, morality and virtue, despite her being attracted enough to James *after* he publicly commits sexual assault on a less privileged kid to marry him! What a malfunctioning moral compass. JKR also has no sympathy at all for Tom Riddle Sr, who is a victim of rape, and his rapist Merope Gaunt, who is herself strongly implied to be a victim of incestual abuse, is condemned by Dumbledore and the narrative not for what she did to Tom but for not being as courageous as nice, pretty, middle class Lily Evans because Merope committed the crime of…dying in childbirth. The only conclusions I can draw from this is that JKR is the sort of ´feminist’ who doesn’t believe men can be the victims of sexual crimes, and that deep down she thinks being a member of the underclass who can’t drag themselves out of it alone is indicative of moral failure.
This! All of this!
I don't think she puts it together at all. She's incredibly tone deaf about a lot of the abuse she puts these characters through. And with the blasé attitude she has about male victims of SA in the books definitely goes along her brand of toxic radical "feminism". It looks like she just doesn't recognise the severity of what happens to these characters. On top of Severus's attack and Tom Riddle Sr, remember that Ron was roofied with love spell that was intended for Harry, and Moaning Myrtle is incredible predatory towards the boys. Sadly, this attitude carries over from the author to a chunk of the fandom too. I've seen so much dismissiveness of the assaults against the male characters, especially Severus. And it's even more disappointing when I see people who have experienced abuse saying that what Severus endured "didn't count" as abuse. Had someone today on another platform having an absolute meltdown at me, saying that what happened in SWM wasn't sa, and that he wasn't traumatised from his abuse and if his anger was caused by trauma then why wasn't Harry the same. Seriously, you can't tell another person that what they experienced wasn't "bad enough to be abuse", that's a very warped mentality. Survivors are supposed to support each other, not belittle each other's trauma. Also, what book did they read that they think Harry doesn't have issues from the life he endured? He has different issues than Severus, yes, because he had different life experiences and everyone's reactions to trauma are different.
"Merope Riddle chose death in spite of a son who needed her, but do not judge her too harshly, Harry. She was greatly weakened by long suffering and she never had your mother's courage."
WTF is this!!!??? This is just plain victim blaming. "Your mothers' courage"? Lily had supportive, loving parents, was loved by her peers, admired by her teachers, had a very comfortable, secure life. Merope was physically and mentally abused for her whole life. They really criticized the poverty stricken, abuse victim for not being as "strong" as the Mary Sue of the Wizarding World??? Toxic as hell. Personally, as someone who has dealt with self-harm, mental illness and generational trauma in my family, this attitude of "they weren't strong enough" is nauseating and infuriating.
There really is a disturbing trend of extreme poverty equalling a dead-end life with no hope. Which is again an extremally toxic and judgmental attitude and a very dangerous message to put in a book aimed to children. The attitude towards abuse, poverty and indecent assault of men is beyond problematic, not only in the books but in far too many members of the fandom.
I could rant more but this will go on for pages.

You know what?
I'm feeling spicy today, so fuck Dumbledore for his "Your father saved Snape's life" explanation.
No, sir, James saved Lupin's life; and Sirius, himself and possibly Peter from being expelled as the person who got another student killed and his accomplices.
Snape surviving, too, was a consequence of James protecting his friends, and even attempted murder should have gotten everyone expelled but Remus.
Dumbledore was on some "boys will be boys" bullshit.

HARRY POTTER HOT TAKES
TBH I miss jily and all the sunshine gryffindor vibes. When did we start to romanticize death eaters like evan rosier and barty crouch like NOT EVERYONE HAS A TRAGIC BACKSTORY SOME OF THEM ARE JUST EVIL. I loveee regulus with all my heart but I absolutely DESPISE jegulus. Like did y'all forget james potter was the no.1 slytherin hater?!
Also I have a bone to pick with people who write jegulus fanfics with LILY SLANDER and WHERE JAMES CHEATS ON HER (I'm coming for yall)
DRACO WAS NOT A TRAUMATIZED LITTLE BABY HE WAS A SPOILED BRAT. He's definitely not better than harry or ron in any way possible. He did not have trauma. And don't even begin to whine about him having a sadder life than harry. FYI harry was orphaned and abused by the dursleys only to come into the Wizarding world and be exploited by Dumbledore and the ministry.
I HATE DRAMIONE/HARIMIONE. That's it. Stop it.
Snape was not a good person and neither was Dumbledore. Snape did not love Lily, he was obsessed with her. Like did everyone forget that he wanted to kill james and harry just so that Lily could be widowed for him? He chose to spy for Dumbledore because it was a safe and comfortable job. Dumbledore literally saved Snape from going to Azkaban and (edits cuz im in doubt) snape also wanted Dumbledore to fire remus because of his ongoing desire to expose remus' secret despite him literally taking snapes side in hbp. " For the greater good" true, but i will forever loathe them.

I know this might be more aggressive than I usually do, but I'm honestly tired. I can't help but believe that the marauders fandom lives in a completely different reality than mine.
They love to force how good James Potter was, but this same James exposed Severus' intimacy. “He had no intention”, if a person takes the life of another without intention, does that change that a person died? It doesn't change. But they love to say that because there is no intention, there is no guilt, when that's not how it works. Besides all the repetition of how Severus was an incel and James was the one who sincerely loved Lily. The epitome of agape, they say, when in reality, he was just a spoiled little rich boy who can't hear "no" from a girl and get on with his life and instead he... *checks notes* threatened and blackmailed their supposed “love” in addition to chasing his best friend with his gang of idiots and, at the same time, leading the other to hell, even though said boy heard the girl’s “no” and disappeared from her life as she asked.
They act as if Severus being a spy was no big deal and it was his obligation to do something to defeat Voldemort, when it wasn't, he had already done enough by going out of their way to give a warning about the Potters' safety. Aside from the stilted speech that "he did it for the girl", when, amazingly, said girl, at this point, is already dead, he would have gained nothing by doing what he did for the wizarding world. It seems like a competition about who objectifies Lily the most in Severus' life, when Severus: never said anything negative about her, never assumed anything about her sex life or even said that she deserved to die for not choosing him, on the contrary , he blamed himself and wished for his own death. "But, look, he bullied the son of the woman he said he loved, that's definitely obsession," his character flaws in relation to Harry were never about Lily but about old memories of his bully. His problem was always unique and exclusive to James Potter. Every time he insults Harry it's always "you're like your father", but never once did he say anything even remotely negative about Lily or blame her for cutting off her friendship with him. But still, the fandom loves to spew nonsense about how he "wanted to get into the girl's pants and got angry when he couldn't."
I vented, sorry.
That’s why I genuinely think most Snaters are just kids—they see everything in black and white and don’t understand that life doesn’t work that way. Severus didn’t owe anyone anything. The fact that he felt bad about Lily wasn’t an obligation; he could have not cared and it still would’ve been fine. Lily cut ties with him. Lily married his bully. It would’ve been completely justified for him to see her as a piece of trash after she ended up with James. Honestly, I would’ve seen her as trash. If a former friend of mine pulled something like that—ending up with someone who had physically and psychologically tormented me for years, knowing full well what I went through—they’d be lucky if I didn’t burn their house down for being such a piece of work.
But Severus's relationship with Lily carried an enormous emotional weight because she had been his attachment figure for many years. So it makes sense that he ended up feeling so guilty, especially since he was the one who told Voldemort the prophecy. But again, even the prophecy wasn’t something he shared with malicious intent. Severus was doing his job as an agent in a war (even if he was on the "wrong" side), and it just so happened that his work unintentionally affected someone he cared about. Of course, he felt guilty afterward—it’s completely understandable. Anyone in his position, with his life experiences, would.
If I were in his place, though? I would’ve ignored Lily completely. Let her and her bully of a husband die, honestly, LOL.
One thing I find fascinating about Severus is how much things actually matter to him. He cares about repaying his debt to society. He cares about redeeming himself for what happened to Lily. He cares about doing the right thing to atone for his mistakes. And he doesn’t have to care, because all the people he sacrifices himself for are people who treated him like garbage at some point.
He didn’t have to be loyal to Dumbledore, especially after Dumbledore forced him to stay silent when he was almost killed as a teenager, made him keep that secret, and left him out in the cold. He didn’t have to be loyal to Lily either. No matter how their friendship ended, I think it’s indefensible (and I’m sure others would agree) for her to get involved with a spoiled rich kid whose whole reputation was built on tormenting others. He didn’t have to risk his life for the Order when most of its members openly despised him his entire life.
He didn’t have to do any of it. And honestly? It would’ve been justifiable for him not to, given his context and his past. But he did. He did all of it because he wanted to be a better person.
Sure, his personality doesn’t always reflect that, but let’s be real—that’s the personality of someone who never stops suffering. His reactions aren’t strange—they’re the normal reactions of someone with unresolved trauma whos reached adulthood without the chance to fully develop emotional or social maturity because of that same trauma.
And of course, he didn’t need to beg for James’s life. If I were Severus, I wouldn’t have asked Voldemort to spare James. I’d have asked him to inflict the worst possible torture on James before finishing him off. But then again, I’m Spanish, and we Mediterraneans have hot tempers and always choose violence, LOL.
But seriously, I’m so fed up with the endless whining about why Severus did this or that. It doesn’t matter why. The fact is, he did it. The important thing is that his actions contributed to a cause, and thanks to him, the world was saved. Everything else is irrelevant because, let’s be honest, many of us would’ve walked away from saving a society that judged, mistreated, and condemned us without a second thought.

Ok, can we talk about the fact that Dumbledore literally had these statues APPLAUD when they saw him!!! Like he brought them to life!! He controls their actions entirely. Bitch was really like, ‘ok I’m gonna walk forward and it’s gonna be this really cool reveal where I’m gonna be proven right and I’ve just duelled Voldemort and these statues are gonna go fucking wild for it’
PLEASE, this man is so unserious! Walking around with his own little hype team like sir Harry is on the ground half dead and Sirius has just DIED!!!
Really in keeping with my previous post about Dumbledore and his CELEBRATORY FEASTS on the night of James and Lily’s death.
Reading the room? This man hasn’t heard of it! If there’s one thing he’s gonna do, it’s make sure everyone knows how fucking great he is

i bet Dumbledore knew. he knew that Sirius wasn't the secret keeper anymore, he knew the whole time that Peter was the actual villain, but he also knew that Remus would be much more valuable to him alone and without a authority defying, constantly questioning, thoughtful, smart and intelligent Sirius next to him. so Dumbledore played his cards.
i hate Dumbledore so much

Dumbledore recruited children into his army in both wars and so did Voldemort
Lily, James, Remus, Sirius, Peter and most of their friends
Harry, all of his close friends and many of his classmates
Regulus, Barty, Evan, Peter, Snape, Narcissa, Lucius, Bellatrix, Mulciber, Avery, and many more
Other than Draco, it’s not certain how many children Voldemort recruited during the second war, but he likely recruited the children of his original death eaters

Rewatching “Philosophers Stone” tonight and I am still mad, and will always be mad, at Dumbledore pulling a last minute reverse uno on an entire house!
What in the name of Merlin made him (and all but one of the adults ) think it was alright to let Slytherin think they’d won the House Cup, that they had the most points, their colours and pennants were up, the points were read…and then Dumbledore was like “Yeah, nah, I’m gonna award a bunch of carefully calculated points so that my favourites win instead.”
Where does he get off publicly humiliating, misleading and disappointing a hundred children like that?
What also gets me, Sev’s reaction when Dumbledore started talking again
Tumblr media
He’s been through this before, he knows where Dumbledore’s favouritism lies, whenever it’s something between Slytherin and Gryffindor, Dumbledore will always side with the Lions. And Sev can’t do anything about it.

“‘Sirius Black showed he was capable of murder at the age of sixteen,’ he breathed. ‘You haven’t forgotten that, Headmaster? You haven’t forgotten that he once tried to kill me?’
‘My memory is as good as it ever was, Severus,’ said Dumbledore quietly.”
like are you kidding me? are you being fr rn? snape is a better person than i am because if someone said that about my bullying and abuse i would’ve gotten scrappy and scary. victim of abuse that he knows about and his best teacher and the only one who tried to protect anyone or fix anything and is basically the reason lupin had wolfsbane at all that all just got thrown back in his face in the worst ways possible. i would’ve been in jail ten minutes later actually. holy shit man
