on my 12th rewatch currently, and i’m STILL !! FINDING THINGS !!!
everytime i remember jed’s hamster was named Ernie i feel like im going insane. Ernie the hamster. Ernie who appears as an alien !! who Snorri feels responsible for killing, much like Owen felt responsible for killing Ernie the hamster by his hawk getting loose !! also Owen, who transformed into a hawk in episode 8 (in my opinion because he projected himself onto the hawk as a kid) !!
episode 1 in general has a ton of easter eggs for the rest of the show:
Annie looking through the boxes of giveaway items and throwing a rubrix cube behind her, which is picked up by Owen in the background. Popcorn Problems. Snorri Agarnsson’s Icelandic Fish restaurant (Snorri, Owen’s name in episode 9). so much more….
Also all the background characters you see in the first episode, you see on the later episodes !!
In episode 4, timestamp 11:08, Owen and Annie (now Linda and Bruce), there’s a child’s drawing of two elves (Annie and Ellie, which in episode 7 they are two elves, Annia and Ellia).
Not to mention Annie as Linda listens to the swing song that later becomes the dancing song in episode 5.
there’s definitely more i’m forgetting, i’m only half ways thru the rewatch rn :/
watching maniac for the 7th time because i’m insane and deranged and desperate. i have found so many easter eggs and hidden gems and i find more every rewatch. this show has rooted itself into every crevice of my brain

Christa Wolf
Tumblr media

“Yes you married a woman who was sick. And she couldn’t handle having a family, and she left us. And it broke your heart. And then your daughter died and it was the wrong one. It was the easier one who was good at life, who made you laugh, who didn't cause problems, who always called you, who didn’t remind you of her mother...” -Annie, Maniac Episode 10 Option C

Imagine: mourning your younger sister Ellie's death with your older sister Annie
Fandom: Maniac
A/N: Today I come to you with a fanfiction for Maniac, another show I absolutely adore even though it feels niche, so nothing will stop me from writing for it. Together with The Rain it got me through a tough time once, so I guess I’ll try and repay the debt this way. This time there’s a sadder note to the work (mentions of death + grief), but I quite like how it turned out. Sorry for ruining your Valentine’s Day with that. ;)
Not being bothered to knock on the door, you enter the messy apartment. For someone who’s never been there it would be hard to spot Annie between the piles of clothes and trash on the couch, but someone who knows her and her place well  – just like her sibling – doesn’t need more than a second.
‘Hey, sister,’ you say.
Annie glowers at you in silence. You let out a short sigh and approach her.
‘How are you doing?’
‘If you came to tell me about how much our father is distraught, you can as well just leave,’ she responded.
‘Didn’t you hear me?’ you ask as you sit down beside her. ‘I want to know how you are doing.’
‘How could I be doing? Our sister died and I couldn’t save her.’
‘Shut up, Annie! It’s not like you killed her or something.’
‘No, you shut up! You know damn well what happened.'
‘I know it was an accident. You are not at fault, not more than me.’
She scoffs, giving you a weird look again.
‘Of course you’re not at fault, Y/N. You weren’t even there.’
‘But I was supposed to be there. Ellie asked me to go to Salt Lake City with you. I already had plans, so I only promised I’d visit her soon. I wish I had gone. I should have been the one to die, not her.’
‘Oh, please. It’s enough that I think I should’ve died. You’re the sensible one, you would have prevented this if you had been there.’
‘That’s my problem, you know. If I had been with you, at least I could’ve tried. And if I still failed, maybe I wouldn’t have to get used to being the youngest sibling again.’
‘Really, Y/N? You’re going to joke about it now?’
‘It’s the only thing keeping me together, Annie. If I don’t try and joke from time to time, I will fall into thousands of pieces.’
Only after she looks at you and anger fades away from her face do you realise tears are already streaming down your face. Next second she’s hugging you for the first time in weeks.
‘I’m sorry...’ she whispers. ‘I forgot how much you must be struggling.’
‘It’s okay. I’ll get through it somehow,’ you say, ‘but I need you to help me. I need to know you’re there for me.’
‘I’m always there for you, Y/N. We’ll get through it together.’
