Ginathon Episodes: Episode 212 (With a little addition)
Kerry follows Gina, pointing out that she hadn't been given an assignment or beat in the briefing. Gina tells her she wants her to work on an assault case that has been waiting to be completed and presented to the CPS. Kerry assumes it's an excuse to keep her from the other uniform officers. "Now why would I want to do that?" Gina asks. "Because of The Smithy Thing?" Gina reminds her she's going to have to decide whether or not to make it official and Kerry tells her she hasn't yet. Gina tells her she can't put it off forever and that she wants her to do the job she's given her in the meantime.
Andrea presses Kerry to find out if the allegation has been made official. Kerry says she's being punished by being kept in because 'she dared to make an allegation'. Do these people not look behind themselves before they bitch? ESPECIALLY when it's about Gina?
Gina interrupts them and continues through to the front office where she finds Adam. She updates him there's still no information from Kerry about if she's going to make the allegation official. Later Kerry finds herself alone as everyone not-so-subtly leaves the canteen table she joins. Tony and Gary make themselves clear they believe Smithy and that Kerry is being cruel holding him to ransom by not giving him chance to clear his name by making it official or telling people that it isn't true once and for all.
(As an aside for @everythingisdragons this is an episode featuring Don Beech as Neil's informant for an armed robbery. It's the first episode for DI Peter Cavanaugh from NCIS (Pronounced Ensis. National Criminal Intelligence Squad, not the naval drama.). He has Honey, Sam and Debbie all batting their eyelashes at him. "I think I've just fallen in love!" Honey whimpers at her first sight of Peter. )
Kerry takes the case that Gina asked her to work to Jonathan. She tells him that the defendants and victims are as bad as each other and have records for similar crimes. A witness saw the attack but couldn't say who started it. Kerry suggests the whole thing be NFA'd and due to lack of helpful evidence Jonathan agrees.
(Jack is FURIOUS when Peter tells him about Neil's information from Don Beech. Neil explains that Don was his Sgt (Don arrived at Sun Hill in 95/Series 11. If Neil is Andrew's age he'd have been 20-23.) Jack wants to hand it over to NCIS because he wants nothing to do with anything that Don is involved in but Neil insists Sun Hill have done the groundwork so should see it out. Peter suggests he stick around to 'help out'. Okaro agrees as Peter has more information on Trevor Little (an Australian criminal that Don works with whilst he was on the run). Can Debbie and Sam be more obvious?🤣)
Jonathan sits in on a conversation between Jack, Peter and Neil with regards to the armed robbery and what they suspect might happen when Trevor Little makes his next move. Jack suspects Don could be in on the robbery and spinning a yarn to take the police focus away from what is really happening. Neil doesn't think Don would do that but Peter admits it is a possibility. Jonathan tells them that they're not just looking at information coming from a bent copper but also someone with a serious criminal record with no sign of contrition. If they were to proceed and the case made it to court, it would have to be a confidential disclosure as to where the information came from. Neil suspects that Jack is only holding back on acting on the case and using the full CID department because Don is involved. Jack reminds him he doesn't have a clue what game Don is playing and warns him to never question a decision he's made again. There's always a price when it comes to Don.
Honey: It's about time we got a bit of talent around here, innit!
Debbie: "There's been a mini influx of male totty lately. I wouldn't say no to Jonathan Fox."
Honey: "That old bloke from the CPS? You're having a laugh aren't ya? But then again I guess he is more your age..."
(Don tells Neil that if he agrees he owes him one, he'll give him everything - the time, the place, the hit. Neil thinks about it and agrees. "It's tomorrow, 10.30, near Butler's Wharf." "And the hit?" "Gems, diamonds... enough for you and half of London to retire on.")
Gina questions Jonathan to find out if he read the entire file that Kerry presented to him. He admits he only listened to what Kerry said and worked from that because she said there was insufficient evidence. Gina points out that her team spent a huge amount of time on the case and says the detailed witness statements and defendants records were more than enough to push it over the line. Jonathan suggests that perhaps Kerry didn't present the evidence in the best light. "Well I think it's still worth pursuing!!!" Gina says firmly. "And I agree with you." Gina's had the wind knocked out of her sails somewhat, having expected more of a fight. "...What?" He promises to look at it again and see what they can do. "Well don't you do me any favours, Mr Fox!" "No favours, it's my job." he says reasonably. "Right! Well! ...Thank you very much!" Gina flusters, fumbling almost with his door before making a quick exit.
Gina calls Kerry to her office before she leaves. She tells her what Jonathan told her about Kerry not presenting the case correctly and calls her out on doing it on purpose because she was made to remain in the station. She tells her Smithy is returning tomorrow so she wants her final answer about the allegation by then.
Jonathan spots Debbie leaving and invites her to go with him for a drink rather than the gym. Debbie agrees as Gina watches them, looking absolutely gutted.

EXCLUSIVE: HBO‘s The Gilded Age has tapped six for supporting roles in Season 3: Dylan Baker (The Good Wife), Kate Baldwin (Broadway’s Hello, Dolly!), Michael Cumpsty (Severance), John Ellison Conlee (Boardwalk Empire), Bobby Steggert (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), and newcomer Hannah Shealy (The Rose Tattoo).
Baker plays Dr. Logan, a family doctor who treats a number of high society families, with Baldwin as Nancy Adams Bell, the older sister of John Adams (Claybourne Elder). Cumpsty portrays Lord Mildmay, a British nobleman who comes to dine at Sidmouth Castle, with Conlee as the successful, educated and polished businessman, Weston; Steggert as the famed artist John Singer Sargent, who has just begun his career painting the great ladies of society; and Shealy as Charlotte Astor, the married daughter of Mrs. Astor (Donna Murphy), recently returned from an eventful trip abroad.
Currently filming its third installment, The Gilded Age is an ensemble drama telling the story of The American Gilded Age, a period of immense economic and social change, when huge fortunes were made and lost overnight. With the old guard officially deposed, New York society finds itself turned upside down, and all must get their house in order. But even those at the helm of this new era may find that change comes at a cost.
Other newcomers in Season 3 include Bill Camp as JP Morgan, Merritt Wever as Monica O’Brien, Leslie Uggams as Mrs. Ernestine Brown, Lisagay Hamilton as Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, Andrea Martin as Madame Dashkova, Paul Alexander Nolan as Alfred Merrick, Hattie Morahan as Lady Sarah Vere, and Jessica Frances Dukes as Athena Trumbo.

Erica Dunbar serves as historical consultant and co-executive producer.
A co-production between HBO and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, the show’s casting directors are Bernie Telsey and Adam Caldwell from the Telsey Office.
Baker is represented by Innovative Artists and Viking Entertainment; Baldwin by Paradigm and Schachter Entertainment; Cumpsty by Innovative Artists; Conlee by Innovative Artists and Meghan Schumacher Management; Steggert by Wolf Talent Group; and Shealy by Untitled Entertainment and CESD Talent Agency.

Rock Facts: Fun With Faults
I actually had this post in mind a couple of weeks ago, but then I got up on the 9th and decided that it... might be considered in poor taste that particular weekend. So I gave it a little while.
So, when you think of seismically-active regions, you generally think of places like California and Japan; Scotland is not very high on the list of places that spring immediately to mind. In fact, we get quite a lot of earth tremors every year! It's just that fortunately most of them are small enough that nobody who isn't staring intently at a seismograph at the time even notices, and most of the bigger ones are on the scale of 'huh, that must've been a big truck that just went past'.
There are three main fault zones (and a lot of smaller ones) running through Scotland to cause these little quakes, and interestingly you can see them pretty clearly on the satellite picture above.
The first I'll highlight is the Great Glen Fault.
It's a strike-slip fault (goes sideways) like San Andreas in California, though thankfully much less active, and runs from the Isle of Mull in the southwest to the Moray Firth in the northeast. The fault actually extends further in either direction, down through the north of Ireland and up towards Shetland, but those regions have different names so we won't worry about them not.
The fault leaves a particular line of weakness in the bedrock along the Great Glen that's been further scoured out by glacial activity; this is why Loch Ness is as deep as it is. It's not the biggest loch by surface area (that would be Loch Lomond) and it's not the deepest (Loch Morar), but the two combined make it easily the biggest by volume. As in, 'contains more freshwater than all the lakes in England and Wales combined'.
The Kessock Bridge, which you'll cross to drive north out of Inverness, is engineered to account for movement on the fault.
Secondly, the Southern Uplands Fault.
This one cuts across from South Ayrshire in the southeast to Dunbar in East Lothian. I actually don't know very much about it, but it's the divider between the gentle lowlands of the Central Belt and the higher ground of the Southern Uplands. Nice part of the country, actually.
Finally, the one I find most interesting: the Highland Boundary Fault.
Look back up at the unedited sat pic; you can see that it makes a very, very clear line from the Isle of Arran in the southwest, up across the southern end of Loch Lomond and through Perthshire, until it hits the coast again at Stonehaven just south of Aberdeen. The political and cultural dividers between the Highlands and the Lowlands are more complicated and outwith the scope of this post, but geologically? This is the boundary.
On the way, the fault passes through the small town of Comrie to the west of Perth, where it shoogles enough to make Comrie the most seismically-active place in Britain and give it the nickname of the Shaky Toun. It's also the site of the first modern seismometer, which was kept in the small building known as Earthquake House. Earthquake House is still a seismic observatory, though the equipment is a bit better these days.

Radical feminism isn't an identity or a label that you can use because it sounds cool. It's a liberation movement that requires radical change through radical action. If you're het-partnered, you're contributing to women's oppression and you can't really consider yourself a radical feminist (without watering down the liberation movement and making everyone else seem like a massive hypocrite).
Men have oppressed women through relationships and pregnancies for hundreds of years, so partnering with a man is about as unradical that you get.
Why are you so obsessed with including het-partnered women in radical feminism anyway? Nobody is saying that you can't believe radical feminist beliefs or take radical feminist action, just that you can't use a word that doesn't apply to you.
Genuine question, but do you have any idea how much radical feminist theory we use to understand radical feminism on Tumblr was actually developed by 'het-partnered women?' If we exclude their contributions, then we're not protecting the sanctity of the radical feminist label or anything like that - we're just pointlessly weakening the movement.
(Here's a brief list of 'het-partnered' radical feminists who actually contributed something to radical feminism -> Andrea Dworkin, Catherine MacKinnon, Naomi Weisstein, Ellen Willis, Roxanne Dunbar, Phyllis Chesler, Robin Morgan, Alix Kates Shulman.)
I think radblr has a bad habit of politicising non-political issues. Choosing to date/marry a man isn't a feminist choice, but it's not 'contributing to women's oppression' either... I'd like to see fewer arguments around 'can het-partnered women be radical feminists' and more discussion around 'what do we need to do to make society as safe for women as possible?'
#i don't think lesbian/bisexual women need to advocate on behalf of heterosexual women if they don't want to#but i don't know what this stupid discourse is actually designed to accomplish (other than defend people who do f all for women?)#'what do we need to do to make society as safe for women as possible' isn't just for 'het-partnered women' btw - applies to lesbians too#(in a 'how do we protect lesbians from growing up/living in a heteropatriarchal home' sort of way)#(the idea that 'heterosexuality' is inherently unethical is a political lesbian belief)#i think a lot of radfems need to be more practical#anon

Smiffina Episodes - Episode 290
The staff are horrified to see the station in the daylight - for some longer term staff members it's reminiscent of the fire boming incident.
Sadly Marilyn didn't make it. Noone has seen Reg since yet.
Tony spots Colin Fairfax at the cordon, he approaches to speak to him and Colin tells him that "It's too late now isn't it... it's just what I was saying but noone would listen." Tony asks again for Colin to reply. "They were my friends too."
At the morgue, Neil finds Gabriel paying his respects to Andrea's body. Gabriel tells him that he knows about him and Andrea and that he won't tell anyone about it.
Adam tells the gathered members of Sun Hill how proud of them all he is and that they're showing real dignity and strength in carrying on. Reg arrives near the end of it and drops his coffee cup immediatley, apologising to Gina. Everyone is shocked to see him given that his fiancée died 12 hours ago.
In the locker room Gabriel is staring into his mirror as he dresses into his uniform, giving a smirk at his reflection. "I feel like a new man." he declares.
At a pub, Colin is spotted in the company of a rather unpleasant known racist by Leela and Tony. He tells Tony that he had spoken to Ken the day before despite Phil having told them that he hadn't found him. The landlord tells them that Colin was always boasting that he was a real copper but that none of them believed him due to his nature and behaviour. Tony lets on his suspicions to Gina who lets him look into Colin's background before she goes to visit Smithy in hospital.
Before she gets there, Gabriel has been bending Smithy's ear about Andrea, making out that she had been manipulating the entire situation, whispering into Kerry's ear, then his and creating the entire problem. Gina arrives before Gabriel can return from getting him some better reading material than just Andrea's station exposé and Smithy discreetly tells her what Andrea had told him in their last conversation - like Gabriel working with the Sun Hill Sniper. Smithy asks her what she thinks when she looks at Gabriel. Gina replies that he knows exacty what she thinks of him - but at least he is 'one of them' unlike Andrea "may she rest in peace." she adds, eating Smithy's grapes. Gina bets Gabriel had been going on and on about saving Smithy's life. Smithy tells her that he hasn't mentioned it once... "Well, what did he say when you thanked him?" "..... I haven't. I can't, it just sticks in me throat." Smithy replies, just as Gabriel returns. Gabriel tells them that all they can do is be better people for those they have lost and that he's living proof that things can change and improve - before he leaves them to it. Gina has to leave soon after and tells Smithy that Tony thinks Colin could have something to do with it, letting on that she'd spoken to one of his referees who just happened to be the man that Smithy interviewed on what turned out to be Colin's last day - the garage boss. She sums up he was definitely nervous about her call.
After more calls and checks into his background, Gina begs Adam to call a meeting with MIT and to get them to look into Colin Fairfax, believing him to be behind it all.
