Amber Waves: Chapter 1 -> read
Andorian OC/Human OC
🔪 = some violence/gore (but it has to do with a shuttle crash)
Maggie was enjoying a summer's evening when something fiery and strange rocketed across the sky over her country home. Running to investigate, she stumbles upon an incredibly strange find - a blue man with antennae like an insect. Lt. Oran (who was, as it turns out, not a bug) tries to make sense of how he could have crashed through time to land in a cornfield over a hundred years in the past. Will he be stuck in the 21st century with a pink farmer for company? Or will he make it back to his own time, to serve Starfleet and see his family once more?

One does not lightly cross a panicking Andorian.
For @indignantlemur, @shadowinthefire, @1lostsoul0fishbowl, @deadheaddaisy, @pajamasecrets
----------------------
Karveth got the call at 1437. Ninety seconds later, he was on the transporter pad, demanding a beamdown to the surface, which no one was foolish enough to deny him, because the call had come from the Utopia Colony Emergency Clinic. Monica had been hurt, and ninety seconds was all the time necessary for a thousand terrible possibilities to present themselves to his imagination, each more awful than the one preceding.
Passersby gaped in astonishment as he rematerialized about fifty meters from the clinic door. Transporter technology was still not so common that it was an unremarkable sight, but he was in no mood for coddling civilians' delicate sensibilities. He charged into the clinic, bringing him face to face with a wide-eyed receptionist who had obviously not expected, when she woke that morning, to be accosted by an Andorian who was clearly clinging to social decorum by his fingernails.
"Monica McKee," he snarled.
Then, from beyond the reception area partition, like a blessing, he heard her voice.
"Yeah, the angry blue guy's with me."
He didn't wait for permission; he was through the sliding doors in an instant, antennae moving, seeking her, ignoring the medical personnel entirely. She couldn't be far - he'd heard her so clearly, she had to be-
"Commander Karveth?" A nurse, holding her PADD like she'd wield it as a weapon if necessary, hailed him. "In here."
He entered the exam room, and he could breathe again.
Monica sat on the exam table, conscious, unbloodied, and apparently entirely well, with the exception of her right foot, which was elevated and bandaged. She let out a sigh at the sight of him, smiling ruefully. "Well, now that you've scared everybody… Hi."
"What happened?" he asked, reaching for the hand she extended. Warm, but not too warm. Good.
"I turned my ankle at work," she said, rolling her eyes at her own body's betrayal. "Just stepped wrong. It was the stupidest thing." She heaved another short sigh. "And you were freaking out, apparently."
"All I was told was that you had been injured," he said sternly. She smiled a little, reaching with her free hand to stroke his hair.
"Guess that's what I get for having you as my emergency contact. Even though they really didn't need to call you about this."
"Can you walk?" he asked, dubious.
"That's what the crutches are for! Twenty-four hours and I'll be fine. I'll be dancing again by the weekend."
"But until then?"
"It's not a big deal!"
"You don't have to prove yourself by making light."
"And you don't have to panic."
They stared one another down for a long moment, then he sniffed. "Who said anything about panicking?"
"You did. Your antennae are still all-" She held straightened, quivering fingers in front of her forehead. He sighed. She had him there.
"All I knew was that you were hurt," he repeated, and her expression softened.
"But I'm okay, thay'va. I wish they'd told you that. And I'm glad you're here, because big talk aside, I was not looking forward to trying to get home on my own."
"You don't have to."
"Nope. Because I'm going to let my r'eysleten help me."
She held out her arms to him; he bent, slipping one arm under her legs, and the other around her mid back. She gave a squeak of surprise as he lifted her off the exam table. "Hold on to me," he said softly.
"What about the crutches?" she laughed, wrapping her arms around his shoulders.
"Unnecessary," he said.
"This wasn't quite what I meant by letting you help me," she said, still laughing as he carried her out of the clinic, ignoring the stares of the staff and other patients with magnificent indifference.
"It's what I meant."
"You're so sweet," she murmured.
"Apparently I am."
"So now what?"
"Now I take you home and attend to your every whim."
"You know I'm going to take terrible advantage of that, right?"
"You should."

Idea that once human movies and tv series becomes accessible to the rest of the universe they immediately have to get re-called and re-regulated by the federation.
Like, the Andorians thought they had sexy romance shows, but then the terrans come along and now you've got angry zhavey's, shreya's, charan's, and thavan's calling in concerned on what their teenagers are watching.
And this especially applies to horror movies, Klingon space gets access to some classics and figure they'll sit around and laugh at the silly human horror. Cut to one Texas Chainsaw Massacre marathon later and now some human captain's are reporting that the Klingons are looking at them weirdly, like they almost seem... nervous of them?
Same thing goes for when Vulcans begin to approach human crewmates to ask how they manage to keep their children away from "The animated blue kanine and the female pink sus scrofa domesticus?"
Ferenginar just has a flatout ban against any and all talent/contest shows. To win profit just for having a talent? For showing good teamwork? Without any cheating or lying? Disgraceful media. (Although they would appreciate the trick of adding a sob backstory to gain more sympathy votes)

YOU UPDATED! YAY!
This was lovely! I really like how you've handled both Ophelia and Tysess throughout this piece. It felt like a mature, reasonable conversation between adults with valid concerns instead of the unnecessary drama-fest it could have been, and I love that for them. They're both such level-headed characters, and this entire development felt like a natural progression in their relationship. Well done!
Part 7: Ace of hearts
Commander Tysess x Ophelia Zubira (OFC) Words: 2K Summary: Tysess has been fighting with something over the last weeks and can't hold it in anymore Warnings: Talk about sexual activities (nothing graphic or so, just talk), coming to terms with identity A/N: This was kind of inspired by this post from @zierzim. I have wanted to write something along those lines for quite some time and finally got the needed inspiration, so thanks for that
Body Language Masterlist

Lost in thought, Ophelia sat on the small armchair she had pulled in front of the ship's porthole to watch the stars go by. Two weeks. For two weeks she had been trying to convince Tysess to ask the Admiral for a transfer of quarters so that they could move in together.
They had both talked about it before and her partner had seemed willing to take the next step, but something seemed to have happened. She didn't know if Tysess had changed his mind or not, but for the past fortnight he had been avoiding the subject whenever she dared mention it.
In general, Tysess seemed to be withdrawing lately and Ophelia didn't know how to react. On the one hand, she was convinced that it would be best to give him his freedom and the peace and quiet he seemed to need. On the other hand, she feared that he might fall back into old patterns, something she wanted to avoid at all costs.
Sighing, she rose and wandered to her little kitchenette, hoping a cup of coffee would help her, when all at once her doors slid aside to reveal a rather stiff-looking Andorian. "Tysess!"
A warm smile graced her lips as he entered her quarters, his hands clasped behind his back, standing tall with a nod of acknowledgment. "Ophelia," he greeted softly.
Stepping forward, she enveloped him in a tight embrace, though she sensed him tense at her touch. After a moment, she released him, concern furrowing her brow. "Are you alright?" she inquired gently. Tysess avoided meeting her gaze, sidestepping her to approach the porthole she had occupied just moments before.
"Of course it is. Why wouldn't it be?" His voice sounded pressed, and his antennae seemed a little too much to the rear for her taste.
Noticing his unease, she cautiously reached out to touch his shoulder, causing him to flinch reflexively. Pulling back, she regarded him with growing worry, stepping around to meet his eyes. Tysess averted his gaze, his expression tinged with something akin to shame.
"I don't want to be a pain," she murmured in a calm voice, hoping to put him at ease as well. "And if you just need some you-time, that's totally fine. But I'm beginning to worry about you, Tysess. I'm truly concerned."
Tysess remained silent, his gaze unwaveringly fixed on the scene outside. After a few moments of heavy silence, Ophelia turned away with a resigned sigh. "We can just keep quiet, if you prefer, mi amor. Just let me get my tea quickly, then-"
"Are you expecting us to have sex?" The question sliced through the air, causing Ophelia to spin around to face him, her expression a mixture of confusion and surprise. "I beg your pardon?" Taking a deep breath, Tysess turned to squarely meet her gaze, his eyes piercing. In that moment, Ophelia felt as if she were staring not at her boyfriend, but at her stern commanding officer. "Do you expect us to participate in sexual activities?"
His tone was matter-of-fact, professional, reminiscent of a Vulcan's demeanor, leaving Ophelia unsure how to react. "What ... what makes you think that?"
"It’s irrelevant." Ophelia, caught off guard by the abrupt question and the sudden shift in his demeanor, found herself fumbling with her words and her arms. "I... no idea. Maybe I do? I don't know how-"
"Do you think our relationship will fail should we not be able to be sexually intimate with each other?" The question hung heavy in the air, leaving Ophelia speechless as she gaped at him, her silence seemingly confirming something to Tysess. With a palpable sense of disappointment, he turned away, his expression etched with resignation."I knew it."
"Woah, give me a break," Ophelia interjected, running her hands over her face in bewilderment. "No one's breaking up with anyone here, alright? Just take a breath, Tysess. I'm struggling to keep up here."
"It was a simple question,“ Tysess countered.
" That came out of nowhere," she argued, reaching for his arm. "Please, Tysess, where the hell do you come up with this now? And why does it seem so important? We are not even at that step yet."
"And perhaps we never will be," Tysess wheeled around and stared down at her. With any other person, she would have flinched, maybe even taken a few steps back, but not with him. Not with her Tysess. All she saw in his eyes was fear, exhaustion and frustration.
"Mi amor," she murmured and tentatively tugging on his hand to pull him onto the sofa next to her. "Breathe in and out and start again. Please, I can't follow you."
Tysess sat down on the sofa and ran her fingers wildly through her hair so that the white strands were sticking out in all directions. Under other circumstances, it would have looked pretty cute.
"I... I'm not able to feel these things, to give you these things. These... sexual urges," he spat out the words in disgust, "are beyond my understanding. I... I don't know what exactly is broken with me, but I... I just can't. I'm... I'm sorry, my love, please forgive me." Ashamed, he buried his face in his hands, and to her shock, she realized his shoulders were shaking with sobs after a few moments.
"Hey, hey, Tysess, mi amor," she said softly, wrapping an arm around his shoulder and drawing closer to him. "That's no reason to cry. And certainly no reason to leave you. What makes you think that?" He mumbled something she didn't understand and when she asked him to repeat himself, he just spat out a "Nada". Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion and an uneasy, foreboding feeling spread through her stomach. "Lieutenant Nada? What's he got to do with it?"
"We were talking, please don't ask me how it came about, I don't know myself, and he asked me if we were both ... one step closer. He was drunk, which is probably why he dared to do it in the first place. When I said no, he said..." Tysess's voice broke off, but Ophelia didn't let up and urged her to keep talking in a stern voice. "He said that if I wasn't able to satisfy your ... needs, you'd find me inadequate and seek someone else."
"Oh that motherfucker!" Ophelia shot up from her seat, her anger boiling within her like a cauldron. "I'm going to kill him!" The mere thought of the Cardassian planting such poisonous ideas in Tysess's mind made her blood boil. How dare he meddle in their relationship? How dare he speak about it in such a disrespectful manner? He had absolutely no right to interfere.
As she made her determined stride toward the door, a firm grip seized her wrist, halting her in her tracks. Still seething with fury, she spun around to find Tysess, still seated, his expression a mix of confusion and exhaustion.
"Let go of me! That bastard has no right to talk to you like that! Who does he think I am anyway? A fucking broodmare?!“ "Ophelia..." Tysess attempted to interject, but she cut him off. "No!" Kneeling down next to him on the sofa, ensuring they were at eye level, she gently took his face in her hands, forcing him to meet er gaze.
"He has no right to talk like that! Absolutely no right! Especially because he couldn't be more wrong, mi amor." She gently ran her thumb over his prominent cheekbones, watching as a glimmer of reassurance returned to Tysess's eyes.
"You don't think I..."
"Tysess," she murmured, feeling like her heart was breaking into a thousand tiny splinters. He didn't deserve to be put to the test over and over again, to doubt himself until it drove him to ruin. He might be grumpy and his aura was usually not really inviting, but she knew the man beneath that layer.
A man who was kind and loving and possessed a heart of gold that had been broken and betrayed far too often.
She gently stroked a few white strands from his face, her fingers brushing against his courtship ring. "I'm not interested in such things." Her fingers lovingly caressed his cheek until he closed his eyes and surrendered to the feeling. Ophelia felt him slowly relax beneath her.
"I don't need anything like that. Then we won't have sex, who cares? If you can't feel sexual feelings, mi amor, I'm hardly going to force you to. Do I really seem like someone who judges you for the way you are?" Tysess opened his eyes slowly, ashamed, and shook his head
"Ah, ah, ah!" She tapped him lightly on the chin. "Let's not even start with that. Blaming ourselves accomplishes nothing. It's not your fault. It's no one's fault for anything here because it's a normal thing. There are a lot of people who don't feel sexual feelings. My best friend at school wasn't just asexual, she was also aromantic and it never posed any issue. The only person to blame for anything is Lieutenant Nada."
Tysess frowned and his eyes darted back and forth, as if he was looking for an answer to a question he didn't yet know himself.
"But..." he hesitated and his gaze dropped. Ophelia placed her fingers under his chin and lifted his head, an encouraging smile on her lips. "Yes?"
"What if you want to have children later?" This question surprised her almost more than his question about sex, and somewhat taken aback, she dropped onto her bum. Meanwhile, Tysess's cheeks turned a delightful shade of lilac. "I know, I know, it's way too soon, but... it's still something to consider." His tone seemed firm and now it was he who looked her firmly in the eye.
"Ophelia, correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding of the situation is that we're both ready to take this relationship a step further." She nodded tentatively, indicating for him to continue talking. "
We've been together for over a year and a half, been through quite a bit and made it through and both decided that living together permanently is something desirable." He took her hand and squeezed it gently before beginning to draw patterns on the back of her hand with his finger.
"I don't want to put pressure on you, nothing is further from my mind than that. However, it is something to keep in mind. Especially now that we're both ready to enter into a more committed, serious relationship."
Ophelia mulled over his words for a moment before offering a nod of agreement. As always, he wasn't wrong. "I understand you, Tysess. Your concern is valid, though it's unnecessary. Even if you were able to feel sexual feelings, that wouldn't guarantee children. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be against children, but we have to keep in mind, mi amor: We are not the same species. Andorian and human physiology differ significantly, if memory serves from my Academy biology classes. The chances of our species producing offspring... well, they're virtually non-existent."
She pressed her forehead against his. "I love you, Tysess. That's something that can't be changed. Whether you're asexual or not, whether children are possible or not —it doesn't matter to me. All I want is to be with you, right here, right now. It's okay to think about the future, it's even necessary. But please don't let it spoil the present, mi amor." A tranquil silence settled between them, not uncomfortable, but rather a moment in which everyone could sort out their thoughts.
"All right." Ophelia smiled and leaned in to give him a brief, tender kiss. Tysess smiled narrowly and, in an unguarded moment on her part, he pulled her closer and wrapped his arms around her, burying his face in the crook of her neck.
"By the way," he murmured, "didn't you mention speaking to the Admiral about our quarters arrangements?"

Andorian headcanon
Andorian (and Aenar) children are always held up or sat on top of a higher surface when multiple people are taking part in a conversation. When there's only one person speaking to the child they crouch down to their level.
This is because their antennae are very important for communication. But the antennae of children are not yet able to process all the sensory input, additionally it is harder to get those inputs if the nearest part of the opposing body is hidden by many layers of winter clothes and the antennae are too far away. Therefore the children need to be at eyelevel with others to learn how to communicate with their antennae and for their antennae to be able to develop to their full capability.
#also because they “kiss” hello and goodbye by touching their antennae#but that's gonna be a different post#this also confuses humans#because humans very rarely crouch down to a children's level or even hold them up to talk to them#even though in some occasions you definitely should talk to a child on eye level#headcanon#andorian#aenar

I feel like in a better universe, instead of people talking about their Hogwarts houses, they’d talk about which of the 4 founding Federation members they like best or most identify with. I suppose it could still happen. I could see Tellarites replacing Gryffindor, Humans replacing Hufflepuff, Vulcans replacing Ravenclaw, and Andorians replacing Slytherin.

Found this on instagram and it screamed Klingon, Romulan, Vulcan, Andorian x Human energy to me.
I feel like this also incapsulates the spock and bones ship dynamic.

🩵🩷 Fest Day 14!
When it works, it works.
“Shut up.” “Never.” “I’ll make you.” “Hmm…how?” “By feeding you sweet potato dumplings. What did you think I meant, you dirty-minded jerk?” He laughed, kissing her neck. “Marry me.”

I'mma just shuffle over on into this conversation, because Andorian/Human pairings are my jam and I have thoughts. The Andorian/Human dynamic has a lot of great points when you break it down.
1. Andorians are known to be proud, and sometimes stoic, but also easily offended and a little stabby. They value duty and loyalty extremely highly, generally speaking, and while they have tempers they also value reason and logic. Successfully befriending an Andorian is awesome - you will never have a better friend. That Andorian you've somehow bamboozled into being your bestie will have your back in almost every scenario, they will throw hands right alongside you when you get into fights, they will pick your dumbass self up and carry you home when you get in over your head and need saving. They will snark at you, they will poke fun and tease, but god help the fool who tries to pick on you because your Andorian bestie will fuck them up.
2. Andorians are, canonically, very tall and very strong. This is appealing for multiple reasons, I'll let your imagination handle that - but I will offer this: little spoon. Little spoon forever.
3. Andorians have insectoid ancestry, which seems to equate to them being extremely social. That plus their propensity for "play" (casual and largely indiscriminate sex prior to marriage for those unfamiliar) means they these guys are extremely physically engaged. Touch is frequent and casual, and physical contact runs the gamut from everyday to intensely intimate. I fail to see how this is ever not going to be a good thing.
4. Andorians are highly ritualized and litigated (12, 000 amendments to the Ushaan, for example) which means that they like clear lines and delineations. You'll usually have a good idea of where you stand with an Andorian, as long as you make an effort to meet them halfway and try to understand their culture.
5. While Vulcans are all well and good, a large part of the Vulcan/Human romance arcs features around pon farr and how it fundamentally cements part of the relationship between the two. That's fine, I'm not knocking it, but hear me out: Andorians don't make you wait every seven years for that kind of fun. That could be Tuesday. That could be every Tuesday. And possibly also every other day that ends with a 'y'.
6. Quad dynamics! For those who enjoy multiple partners or polyamory in their stories, the Andorian tradition of marrying into quads offers a whole new realm of possibilities. Headcanons and canon lore are a bit diverse when it comes to how these quads end up functioning, but even with the bare bones that we get from canon lore there's at least one ritual that involves a foursome orgy with a highly suspect substance called saf.
7. Antennae - a bit of an adjustment, to be fair, but once you get the hang of it they're a lot like a cat's tail in that they're mood gauges. You can't read their minds via their antennae, but you can get a pretty good idea of what's going on generally speaking.
8. Calf eyes. Andorians have limited facial musculature in canon lore, which means they don't quite smile like Humans do - but they do go in for big calf eyes. Think Jeffrey Combs eyes, all the time. That's adorable.
9. Body heat. Hailing from an ice planet with extreme temperatures, Andorians are adapted to survive those conditions. In my headcanon, that means they run a bit colder than Humans, and their unique semi-osmotic circulatory system (canon lore) means that they're much less sensitive to temperature shifts as a result. That does not, however, mean that they can't appreciate that Humans run quite a bit hotter than they do and, referring to point 2, that could be very much appreciated.
Aaaand 10. Andorians are stated as having psychic bonds of a sort in canon, though they are much less active than Vulcan bonds. Where Vulcan bondmates are often shown as being able to communicate freely with this bond, Andorians cannot. Andorian bonds are much less invasive, in that they can get a sense of each other's moods, well-being, and such, but that's it. The trade off is that that bond is unbreakable outside of the death of one or more parties. That's a big commitment, but it also means that all parties have to be absolutely sure before entering into a bond or marriage. That's very reassuring for a lot of people.
I have to know, so y’all who like Humans/Other Alien Species from Star Trek instead of Vulcans, what’s the biggest appeal?
Like, as a Vulcan/Human fan, my favorite stuff about it, cause I’ll usually project onto the Human, is like: having a partner who will never yell at me, someone who can understand me (telepathy and mind links), someone who will be forever patient with me, the quiet intimacy, etc etc etc
So for the other species, what’s the biggest plus sides?

Thinking about if other species becoming insanely obsessed with random parts of human history because it's just so VAST and there's so much. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that other events like the first contact with the Aksani, the Barkonian renaissance, the whole federation-Eminian 'poison saliva dinner' fiasco, or the Lokirrim-Iconian-Risian trading war were all very interesting.
But I can't help but imagine the endless hilarity that involves something like a group of Andorian teens all being like:
"Did you know that there used to be other types of human sub-species living on earth billions and billions of years ago? Yeah! they were called like knee-an-do-thals and erik-toss or something" "Really? So, it was like the human version of Aenar on their planet?" "I guess so yeah" "So, what happened to them?" "The ancient humans killed them all." "..." "..."
"...maybe...on second thought, we should help Anika with her biology project after all."

some of the crew for the uss feynman!

in order from left/right & top/bottom:
commander/captain james k’wayyd (he/she)
- aenar-andorian. doesn’t have a traditional andorian name due to being raised on earth by a human-vulcan couple. struggled a lot with identity growing up away from andorian culture, but later in life left his first ship (USS cerritos) as a junior lieutenant to live on andoria for a few years before returning to starfleet to assist with conflict. was formerly navigation/command division before switching to sciences, combining his navigation skills with astronomy.
lieutenant commander dhy’la byre (she/her)
- bajoran. very much chill but serious about her work, doesn’t take lightly to messing around during work hours. she’s loud and can yap your ears off, but people tend to enjoy listening to her anyways.
ensign/junior lieutenant rhea m’ghon (she/her)
- orion-trill. likes to stick with herself. doesn’t like most people but still desperately wants everyone’s approval. doesn’t speak much about her home life. admires dhy’la from a distance.
chief medical officer isothaal “iso” ch’loya (they/them)
- aenar. tired disaster lesbian. always in some heartbreak or love triangle. midlife crisis all the time. everyone loves them and they love everyone. they are almost completely blind, only able to detect some light levels through their eyes.
ensign o’lynn maalh (he/they)
- vulcan-andorian. mostly nonverbal. botanist, spends basically all his time in the lab. feels like plants get him better than most people. despite this, shark tries desperately to be their best friend. he does have a soft spot for the andorian and lets her be “annoying”.
junior medical officer shark zh’kayo (any)
- andorian. super high energy all the time. most people can’t handle it, but she doesn’t mind. spends a lot of time with o’lynn and t’penne, although the three were closer before he got promoted.
ensign t’penne (she/they)
- vulcan. t’penne has an untraditional mindset regarding emotions and logic. still stoic and monotonous in her ways, she is much more expressive than vulcans typically are (which, albeit, isn’t much). she believes it’s illogical to repress emotion as far back as vulcans do, especially when it doesn’t cause any harm or disruptions in her life and work.

these were originally gonna be a part of an ask from @singeart about the kids meeting Janeway (real) in AU, but i got so hyperfixated on Dal and also the episode Crossroads that now it's just a standalone Crossroads dump lol
mainly just doodles surrounding Dal obviously seeing weird thresholdy janeway for the first time, and also a few about how like shes a lizard girl and would probably experience brumation down on an icy planet haha. i figure at this point with what we know likeeee hologram janeway would prooooobably be aware of what she'd look like post-Threshold,,, given what she knows about certain events on voyager and stuff like Molly and all that.

Confessions: 1. I don't want to see the 32nd century. I want to see the 25th and 26th. The 32nd is too far away, I'm not engaged in that. All the previous cannon is like, myths and legends rather than recent history. 2. I don't like how many plots have super high stakes. Like prodigy and picard season three both have "if this thing happens it's gonna kill the entire federation!" Why? It sucks. It sounds like a broken record, and it gets boring. Starfleet security should be better than that. 3. Can we not have earth as the powerhub and centre of the Federation, and this "if Earth falls, the Federation falls" mentality. Like: humans aren't the rulers of this society, let some massive things be dealt with by the Andorians or something. 4. I don't like section 31. It's not starfleet. Thought I'd put them into one ask instead of overflowing your inbox :)
