It bugs me that there's basically no lore for the Tellarites other than "pig guys who like to argue". They've been around since the 60s and there's no lore. They were a founding member of the Federation and there's no lore. There's a Tellarite main character on "Prodigy" and so far the only new lore we've gotten out if it is (1) at some point in the pre-Federation past, they rounded up their orphans and sent them out into deep space on colony ships, and (2) they're born in litters and the runts get called "Pog"

I feel like in a better universe, instead of people talking about their Hogwarts houses, they’d talk about which of the 4 founding Federation members they like best or most identify with. I suppose it could still happen. I could see Tellarites replacing Gryffindor, Humans replacing Hufflepuff, Vulcans replacing Ravenclaw, and Andorians replacing Slytherin.

Not enough eldrich horror in startrek
Could've used any telepath species or other shenanigans to have human characters experience the sensory input of other species who don't use the 5 senses the same.
The aenar using their other sense to detect people, vulcans and betazoids feeling people nearby or their intentions, denobulans smelling peoples pheromones, cardassian and tellarite eyesight etc.
Imagine experiencing another species' physiology and then being brought back to 'normal'. Knowing how it feels for that species but never able to properly verbalize it. Neither species understands because one can't, and the other cannot imagine anything different. Living with the knowledge you'll never experience it again. That'd fuck with ya
Please tell me examples of other species btw. I'm insane and I need to experience other flavors of insanity about this

Star Trek conspiracy theory: the reason that the Tellarites from The Journey To Babel look different to later shows Tellarites is because the ambassadors in Journey... are not actually Tellarites at all. They are impostors, wearing dead Tellarite faces on their own. Sarek knows but doesn't say anything because they are honestly less annoying than the orginal ones

My official headcanon is that:
1 - Jankom Pog has distant, living relatives in the modern age he doesn't know about (yet)
2 - they are *actual* Tellarite royalty
Because frankly, if anyone deserves it it's Pog - but it would also give us a look at Tellarite culture that we really haven't seen elsewhere.

I'm going to be honest, I don't like that Enterprise established that Andorians came from an ice planet. Nothing about them or their manner of dress looks like it's cold-weather adapted, and I much preferred the idea that Andor was lush and jungular, thereby explaining their bright colouration. Now the Tellarites; I could believe that *they're* from an ice planet.

I believe that the reason why basically all Star Trek films (with the exception of Prodigy, but Prodigy has Janeway very present) have human captains and a crew made up mostly of humans is because all the other Starfleet ships are "boring" and fulfill their purpose without the confusion that humans cause and that's why this is the Star Trek we know. Of course I wanted to see what a ship would be like where the majority are Tellarite, Andorian or perhaps Cetacios but let's face it, humans are the chaotic element of the Federation. At least that's the theory that comforts me, although I would do anything for a Star Trek with a crew made up of Saurians and for the human to be the joke instead of the other way around.

I have done this a while back on this post, and wanted to do it again but this time without Vulcans, Trills and Bajorans because they clearly were the favourites

Bored. Tellarite headcannon time!
Tellarites live in large familial groups under one roof, with children for the first few years being taken care of by uncles aunts and grandparents, after which they are expected to take a few days of the ‘week’ to be shown how to do jobs in the family (Like bring your kid to work day, except its a rotating thing with the exception of certain jobs too dangerous or off planet, so children are kinda constantly brought around.) Because of this their schooling system is set up so there are multiple classes for kids of the same age that cover the same topics but on different days. Schools also don’t have set grades, just an expectation of improvement within set time frames. Children are encouraged to argue for their grades, to the point its the only way to get perfect scores. In teenage years, schooling is still mandatory, but more specialized and its up to an individual where they’ll attend. Typically at this point they begin to work lower level positions with family and attend related schooling to transition into their careers.
Orphans are difficult to place due to the fact they are born in litters. Separating a kid from their birth group is considered cruel and bad for social development, but in family groups where you not only take care of your kids but your siblings kids also plus mentoring, adding multiple new kids in that have potential trauma is difficult, and at times considered selfish as it massively effects both your workload and responsibility and your families. Orphans are encouraged to pair up with Orphans to form new family groups and to take on orphans themselves, though its not common enough to make up for the amount in their system. Ultimately, many groups are split up and distributed when young if possible, and older orphans are set into their own specific work/school programs to make up for the lack of related adults (Post-federation mostly. It includes placements on other colonies and planets for certain groups that might thrive better)
