Brazil’s police investigate former President Bolsonaro’s allies over alleged coup attempt

Brazilian police are investigating several top allies of former President Jair Bolsonaro for allegedly trying to overturn the results of the 2022 election and searched their homes and offices Thursday.

Bolsonaro was not himself the target of a search but was ordered to forfeit his passport, an officer with knowledge of the operation told The Associated Press. The officer spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to publicly comment on the case.

The searches targeted among others Bolsonaro’s 2022 running mate Gen. Walter Braga Netto, former adviser Gen. Augusto Heleno, former Justice Minister Anderson Torres and the head of his political party, Valdemar Costa Neto, the officer said.

A police statement did not confirm the identities of those targeted in the searches but said they were carrying out 33 searches and seeking four arrests in eight states and the Federal District of Brasilia, the country’s capital. The probe was connected to an alleged criminal organization that “acted to attempt a coup d’etat” that would have kept Bolsonaro in power after his election defeat, the statement said.

I finished season 1 way back 10 years ago, but I never had the chance to watch all of season 2 or any of season 3.

It's such an artistic crime thriller that's really different to anything else. It's also a very pretty adaptation of the source material that even outshines Anthony Hopkins' portrayal.

Brazil former Justice Minister contradicts himself before January riots inquiry

Anderson Torres, justice minister during the Jair Bolsonaro administration and head of public security in Brazil’s capital during the January 8 riots, on Tuesday told lawmakers that he intended to dismantle the putschist pro-Bolsonaro camp near the Army’s headquarters in Brasília, in a story that does not hold water.

Mr. Torres told the select committee investigating the January 8 attacks that his first priority on taking office as Brasília’s security chief in early 2023 was to dismantle the camp, set up soon after the October 2022 election. Hundreds of pro-Bolsonaro demonstrators gathered there to call on Armed Forces to launch a coup and cancel the outcome of the election (which they falsely claim was rigged), to keep Mr. Bolsonaro in office.

Local Brasília police tried to dismantle the camp in late 2022 while Mr. Torres was still justice minister, but actions were blocked by the Army which has jurisdiction over military areas. Once President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was sworn in on January 1, his government took no further action against the camp until after the riots. The camp was cleared on the morning of January 9, and hundreds were arrested.

A report by the Justice Ministry later found that the protest camp was “central” to the unrest.

I don't have actual data to back this up - just an observation of the media I have consumed during my life.

Starting around the mid 2000s I feel like I started seeing more TV shows writing real-life pregnancies of cast members into plots. I think the first I remember being written into a plot was Holly Marie Combs' pregnancy during the filming of Charmed. I am sure there were others before but I remember that one. Before that my memories of how they handled real-life pregnancies was Gillian Anderson on X-Files (being abducted by aliens) and Lauren Lane on The Nanny (large coats, carrying things in front of the bump).

I recently binged seasons 1-7 of 9-1-1 and I appreciated that Jennifer Love Hewitt's real-life pregnancy was part of the plot (though according to an article I read the timing of the start of that plot was coincidental). It reminded me though that it was the second time I had seen a show do that with one of her pregnancies - the other being Criminal Minds.

In Criminal Minds they have also incorporated 2 of A.J. Cook's real-life pregnancies into the plot.

I also have read that Gina Torres wanted to have children and that was why conversational groundwork was laid down in Firefly between Wash and Zoe in case she did (of course Firefly ended up getting cancelled).

I'm sure there are shows that are still doing the old only showing from the waist up and carrying things in front of the bump, but I find I prefer when show plots incorporate rather than try to hide cast pregnancies.
