I've been watching so many Godzilla movies since I lost my job and anyway I'm almost done watching the original 1954 Godzilla and it actually is kind of a fantastic movie, like despite the dated special effects, I think it holds up pretty well! Even with the special effects!
I like to put myself in the mindset of the people who watched that movie for the first time in 1954 and yeah man, I'd be sitting there like "OMG HOW'D THEY DO THAT"
Fave Godzilla movie so far is Shin Godzilla. Kicking myself that I didn't get big into Godzilla until NOW when I could have gotten into it when Godzilla Minus One was still in theaters but nooooooo (but as SOON as its available to either stream or pirate, I'm watching it immediately. I mean technically I can watch it right now on kissmovies, thats where I've been watching most all of these movies, but its terrible quality and the sound is bad so I don't want to watch it until an HD version is available)
Anyway the monsterverse movies aren't my favoooorite but they have Godzilla and I'll take it. Though I don't much care for King Kong. But the King Kong: Skull Island movie was pretty good, I just prefer my boy Godzilla
#from a 2024 perspective#I know how they did that#with the practical effects I mean#Oh thats a toy car#thats a miniature#I love it though#they had to get so creative with making these practical effects look GOOD#and BELIEVABLE#And you just dont see that kind of stuff in movies anymore#Anyway#I'm gonna go back and watch ALL the fucking godzilla movies now#I've fallen and I can't get up#Its funny how in Japan it started off as a horror movie#and then became somewhat of a kid friendly franchise#but then Shin Godzilla came out and it went back to its horror movie roots#And then theres the monsterverse movies#where the 2014 one could arguably be considered somewhat horror#and now its like the fucking MCU with how they treat these monsters#or Titans#whatever you want to call them#America just doing what it does with a movie franchise I guess

Im not seeing alot of posts on here about this, but i have on youtube sooo...
Doctor Skipper, Nerdstagic, Cinema Sins, Rotten tomato critics, other movie critics and youtube movie reveiwers have ruined media literacy by their need for money.
All they do is sit around and hypercritic movies that they know jack shit about while pretending they do, some of them havent even watched the movie, they just want attention and to ruin the movie for its fandom and its chance in the box office.
Doctor Skipper and Nerdstagic have both made videos shitting on the Monsterverse and American Godzilla in general because Godzilla Minus One was "better". Yeah, the movie was awesome! And it deserves all the attention and The Oscar it got. But GxK: The New Empire isnt even out yet, stop bullying it, telling people something is going to be trash before they see it, means theyre going to view it as trash through the lense of your opinion.
Godzilla Minus One and GxK: The New Empire dont compare, they are two separate genres. Godzilla is allowed to be goofy or serious. There is no right or wrong Godzilla. If you like goofy, good for you! If you like serious, good for you! People are allowed to enjoy the two genres separately or together. I love both! But critics dont look at the fact that in the og showa era made by ToHo, it was goofy as hell, he was doing dances and flying using his breath.
The directors of both movies support each other and love each other's work.
Yes, all the shitty sequel cash grabs we've been getting are awful. But Godzilla isn't that,.... yet. If we keep getting divided on these issues and only viewing them to trash and meme, that spreads negative interest, but more profits. More profits means theyre gonna do it again. Boycott movies you know you wont like, but leave other people alone about it, and especially don't make videos without researching the subject or even watching the movies. Just like some of the recent Marvel movies and shows, if we let it turn into a cash grab, our fandom will inevitably die. Like the posters and trailers for GxK- "Rise together or fall alone".
Sidenote: theres nothing funny about the Lucky Dragon Incident.
Sidenote 2: Please stop spoiling GxK
Edit Sidenote 3: stop using ai for your clickbait thumbnails for your edits of GxK trailers
#godzilla#king kong#movies#movie#movie critic#movie critique#gxk#the new empire#toho#godzilla minus one#godzilla minus 1#godzilla x kong: the new empire#godzilla x kong#cinema#cinema sins#fuck you for ruining my fandom with your shitty non researched hot takes#godzilla fandom#king kong fandom#media literacy#hot take#rotten tomatoes#no more spoilers#no spoilers#monsterverse

Ough thinkingabout the godzilla monsterverse movies. The 2014 one is genuinely just so.. good. Like.
But then all the others are insanely bad I dont get it. The only one that's ever so slightly passable is the second one (kotm) but the more I look back on it the worse it is as like, a movie
and yeah yeah before you say "well its good because its just supposed to be a movie about monsters fighting" well dont you think it could have been done better?
the first movie works very well because its not made as a monster movie its made as a natural disaster movie, where the natural disasters are huge monsters. Their actions have weight, the budget people have to fight back is limited, there are genuine stakes (and the fights have more weight to them as well) and the human element does matter and helps move the story along (for better or for worse) no matter how much people complain that they "didnt care what the humans did" or didnt care to watch them, maybe part of why you didnt like the movie is because you weren't paying attention to what they did
In the rest of the movies though every human factor is almost if not completely pointless. In kotm they just kinda fuck around as supposedly ecoterrorists and wake up ghidorah but then ghidorah doesnt do anything the whole movie except fly around ominously (he doesnt even kill anyone i dont think they fake out of that like 4 times its infuriating) and then in the gvk movie its just absurd. like theres no cohesion to it
(that's another one, skull island is a fantastic movie, very stylish)
like season one of strangers things "something fucking weird is happening in this town and we are realistically responding to it" versus season three "a bunch of kids sneak into a super secret russian complex and fuck shit up somehow" its just a progression that doesnt make sense
I know the monsterverse is marketed to children and has plots a child would make and are increasingly """child-friendly""" but man idk I just wish they would have done it better. Monsterverse has just become the marvel avengers of kaijus and I am using marvel in a derogatory way. Like yeah sure its cool monster fighting movies but objectively you have to admit theyre just not good.
#thunderclap#i knowww theres gonna be annoying people responding to this too#'but theyre cool to watch' yeah just saying it could have been better#i have a lot of onions about this specifically#and obviously i will go watch the movies anyways i still have hope one will be good but i know it wont#i would just rather throw money at legendary for these than throw money at marvel

Helloooo I see your Godzilla posts on my dash a lot and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind telling me which films/shows/other things to start with to get into Godzilla and Kong and associated stuff?? It looks really good
Yeah I really love Godzilla its a lot of fun. Ok so for both series I recomend watching the original movies Godzilla from 1954, and the original King Kong from the 30s.
King Kong is very easy to get into because there is less films with him and to be fair they all mostly tell the same story. The Monstervers material with him has the most variety as well as an animated show on netflix.
Getting into the Godzilla series is interesting because there is a lot of variety in tone, story, characters, and continuities. If you want to go very serious then Shin Godzilla and Minus 1 are great. If you want complete cheesy camp fun then Invasion of the Astro Monster or Godzilla vs Megalon are great (especially if you watch the mystery science theartre 3000 episode on it).
Here is a basic rundown of the different continuities, or eras, to keep in mind:
First there is the Showa era which is from the first film in 54 to Terror of Mechagodzilla in 1975. This is the era with the widest variety in tones with some being dark explorations of trauma of nuclear war, to fun kids films ablout Godzilla being a dad, to experimental explorations about the dangers of polution, to cheesey alien invasion flicks with size changing robots. Its great!
Then there is the Heisei era which ignores the continuity of the first and follows on from the original 54 film. This lasts from The Return of Godzilla in 1984 to Godzilla vs Desroroyah in 1995. These films try to have a bit more of a consistant tone throughout, being more of a balance between the cheesey and the serious, again great fun.
Then theres the Millenium era, which is again a reboot, disregarding the last era except of course for the 54 original film. These are from Godzilla 2000 in 1999, to Godzilla Final Wars in 2004. Most of these films are stand-alones.
And then there is the Reiwa era which is the current era of Godzilla. These include Shin Godzilla and Minus One, as well as two anime series. Technically the Monsterverse is a part of this but since its an american lead series its a different continuity to the japanese lead films.
All eras include films with wild plotlines, like alien invasion, fairies, time travel, genetic experimentation, spies, terrorists. And Godzilla himself has different characterisations aswell, from being the embodyment of nuclear destruction or the acumulated vengful souls of the victims of Japans actions in ww2, to being the defender of earth or like mentioned earlier, being a dad.
As to watching subs or dubs, go with subtitles first if you can, because often the american versions edit out parts of the films or change dialogue, but that doesnt mean you shoulnt watch the dubs either because they can be funny as hell. Its the dubbed version of Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster where Godzilla swears.
Its a series with a lot of ups and downs but it is def worth it.
Here is a youtuber that is reviewing all of the Godzilla films if you want to get an idea of what you are looking for:
youtube
This is just his ranking of the Showa era, but its a good starting out point to find what you may like.

If you are going to watch the new godzilla movie, you better turn off your brain
Why am i saying this, well, yesterday i've watched godzilla x kong the new empire, and i've gotta say that is a very enjoyble movie, but just if you watch it with your brain off, this is what i call an autistic movie, it may sound polemic but it is what it is, this movie is has lot of goofy ahh scenes (SPOILER) like when theres a monkey argruing to kong and this big mf beats his shit off with a hit, or when scar king laughs at kong for his teeth prothesis or whe kong grabs mini kong to beat other monkeys ass, mostly kong has the goofy moments, but goatzilla also is doing random shit that i've called the whole movie like "farm for the final boss" that is the only thing he does, he just gieas and farms exp to fight shimo, but this end being enjoyble if you don't analize the movie and you watch it with your brain off, it contains lot if goofy ahh scenes but you just don't have to think about them, just watch it and say "oh this shit is so stupid, i love it" i have a friend that says "godzilla needs to be watched for being godzilla and not for other thing" and i'm litterally in his side, if you want to watch a good movie, you have godzilla 2014, shin or minus one, but if you are going to see a movie like anyother, watch the fucking monsterverse, the critics hates this movie because they've analize it, but the audience loved it, why? Because they turned off their brain seeing it, is a bad movie, yes it is, but is enjoyable for some reason, so, if you are going to watch godzilla x kong searching a good movie, i'm telling you right now that you are not going to find it, and that would be all, thanks for reading this and have a great day.

Haven't even thought about poachers and the black marked for that matter. But I have to agree on that matter. Akari would not be so nice to them at all.
Neither is Proto for that matter. He might even have dealt with a good deal of them over the 200 years he's been alive. Before and after he meet Hina. Got to wonder if there are stories going around about a humanoid like chimera in the black market that makes him a highly vauled price to get.
Which gives Proto even more reason to write down a certain wish on his will. See when Proto dies, his getting creamated mainly to avoid No 9 the chance to absorb his body. We don't really know if thats really something he can do, though Meireki Daikaiju inside I won't put it past them both.
Hench, Proto wanted his body becoming ash as soon as he died. As he did not want to take any chances. Beside, Proto knows a hell of a lot more about No 9 than most other creations would as one of the reasons for the escape to even succeed was for Proto to get to know his creator well enough to figure out something that would work. Or at least give him a higher chance of not dying.
Which also means he would warn not only his family but also the DF about that theres something lurking inside his creator. He doesn't know what, he never managed to fully find out about that before his escape. But it most certainly makes my old kaiju feel cold terror runinning down his spine each time he thinks or remember that fact.
Especially so in that what-if path where Proto lives long enough to save Isao from becoming No 9's newest addtion. And as you've said before, Proto gives his creator the biggest Fuck You as he possible can on this path.
Speaking of my old kaiju. Proto has some habits that is either bothersome or just plain bad thanks to his kaiju nature. Would like to try and guess some of these habits?
You can thank the first Pacific Rim movie for the black market bit. I still think it's ironic that such a personally underrated movie explored more of the kaiju aspect than the Monsterverse. Akari and Proto definitely wouldn't show much mercy to poachers or the darker side of humanity.
The cremation idea is actually very smart. When it comes to absorption, the brain is a very vital component as it is where all the information is found. Destruction or damage of such an organ will guarantee something is lost.
Plus there's very little to learn from ashes anyway. In fact, cremation is a very standard practice in Japan for various reasons. When it comes to mythology, this is to prevent evil spirits from using or resurrecting the body into a creature of the undead.
I have a feeling one Proto habit is eating things that are gross and inedible to humans. Personally want to hear what you got.

i watched godzilla minus one yesterday in theater, it was very good
also very dark like my grandma didnt like it so much cuz she wanted more goji scenes but godzillas always been about the human aspect, hes a metaphor for nukes so having a lot of story with the human characters, i really liked it
im big monster lover, like with the monsterverse movies im. i cant even tell you how many times ive rewatched all of them, ESPECIALLY king of the monsters like goddd i love them so much and i think theres good balance in those movies with monster time and human time cuz in THOSE ones, the titans are just big ass animals that were awoken by human antics so it feels easier to like them cuz MOST OF THEM arent going out of there way to fuck shit up (at least when godz is around) like when people attack they obviously retaliate but they just arent so scary to me when theyre just big ass guys and i love them so much
in THIS one it was very different, felt no connection to godz like i usually would, he felt terrifying and menacing like he should feel. its like atomic blast was SCARY man like holy shit. really felt the weight of it with this one. toho did a great job :]
SIMILARLY like shin godzilla??? SCARY what a fucking BEAST bro its mouth opening that wide to shoot its thang, HORRIFIC actually disgusting i love it

I think I know why NWH managed to hit better aside from the love for the previous movie continuities and love for the comics more bonkers ideas like multiverse. It's because it has the benefit of sticking the landing of a trilogy aka The Trilogy Trial.
Gist is that most trilogies usually have it rough on either the 1st or 2nd movie feeling for its tone and pacing and they make it all worth it by going for the gold on movie 3 and it sticks the landing. First 3 Bayformers, SW Prequels, and Godzilla Monsterverse Trilogy (Sorry, Kong counts as more like a side-story for world building filler) all stuck the landing IMO.
Now in fairness, there are perfect trilogies; Kung Fu Panda, LOTR (Extended Edition or bust, my guy), The Samurai Trilogy w/ Toshiro Mifune, and the OG SW Trilogy to name a few.
Trilogies are weird. Either the first film is meh, second great, third underwhelming
First film is great other two are disappointments
or like you said. First two are meh, third great.
Theres no standards for film trilogies. Of course theres exceptions like Lord of the Rings where all three films are bangers.

so have you read any of the godzilla comics runs? and if so what do you think of them? ive been eye-ing half century war because im very into comics and running out of godzilla movies, but theres so many comics it seems like its own big commitment
I have! I absolutely adore:
- the entire Marvel run (hard to track down now but SO DAMN GOOD, and it led me to Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur too!)
- Half Century War
- Rulers of the Earth
I love:
- the Dark Horse run, even if a lot of cool plot threads get unceremoniously dropped in it
- Godzilla in Hell, even if the middle chunk of it is kinda super disappointing
- Rage Across Time
I like
- Godzilla: Legends
- Gangsters and Goliaths (this would be higher if they had gotten an artist who can actually draw monsters well - a problem with pretty much all the Godzilla comics I’ve seen that aren’t either by Marvel or illustrated by Art Adams, Matt Frank, James Stokoe, or Bob Egleton)
I am indifferent to/critical of
- all the lackluster Monsterverse tie-in comics (though I will note that the recently released Godzilla: Dominion is significantly better than its predecessors)
- the rest of the IDW Godzilla comics
I have not read:
- the many, MANY different manga about Godzilla that have not been released in the states to my knowledge

Quarantine Tag
i was tagged by @hamburgergod :3
Top 3 Ships:
oh I cant rank anything to save my life.
but definitely Destiel (spn), Hankcon (dbh), and PsychexTsugaru (durarara, sort of). HeixYin (darker than black) is an honorable mention.
Last Movie You Watched:
last movie I sat down and watched was Godzilla: King of the Monsters, haha
it was during the Monsterverse Watchalong event on twitter, which was very cute! i had a lot of fun, well, watching along c: and reminiscing about production a little bit.
Reading:
fanfiction, as always. i havent rly had my nose in a longfic in a while tho, which is kinda sad. :c The last book I read was.... gosh....................... um.......................
oh actually!! It was The Call of the Wild! It’s a short book, but it counts! I read it as self imposed homework for the film. it was uh... interesting! definitely way more violent and racist! i know its sacrilegious to say this to book snobs, especially classic book snobs, but i am very happy with the changes that were made lmao
What food are you craving right now:
theres this sushi i had delivered to me a few days ago and fuck, it was so good. i had a few rolls, but the BEST was their salmon nigiri. oh my god. in theory it would taste the same no matter where you get it, but their sushi rice was the absolute perfect texture and had this slight sweetness that was just spot ON, and their salmon slices were enormous.
I inhaled them like i hadnt seen food in a week.
so im craving more salmon nigiri. but their salmon nigiri.
taagggiiinngggg @riseofthefallenone to single her out and put her on the spot because its funny to me :)

Do you think it was a bad PR move by Legendary to hype "King of the Monsters" so far away from its release date? I mean, with all the new movies coming out from December to May it's gonna be hard to keep KotM relevant without like, spoiling everything, like what they did with the TV spots for Kong Skull Island
Tbh, if we breakdown trailer 2, we might see how Legendary intends to maintain hype levels from dec to may as we were given so many new information (for those who havent read the spoilers of course)
And note that Legendary is targetting the mainstream audience here so all of the content and kaiju are totally new to them so i suspect Legendary is gonna go over all the aspects of trailer 2, just enough to give the casual movie goer some idea on whats up in this monsterverse throughout this time period one by one leading up all the way to the movie.
Cause we have:
1. Godzilla himself (what has he been doing since 2014 and whatnot)
2. Rodan (lore and background)
3. Mothra (lore and background)
4. Ghidorah (lore and background)
5. Other kaiju (overview)
6. Burning Godzilla (the biggest tease of all just days before the movie finally drops)
So Legendary are definitely gonna have TV spots for all these aspects as Trailer 2 was extremely content heavy for those that are new to the franchise so introductions in the form of TV spots are neccessary.
So theres really no need to be concerned with whether or not all these TV spots will spoil too much (ok, maybe except the last one) as i infer from what the director has been telling us, theyre gonna really skim through all the intros and focus on the monster on monster action.
