Convinced that Brandon demanding that Rhaegar "come out and die" instead of asking for Lyanna was George's way of separating Rhaelya running off from the start of the war. Obviously that was Brandon's motivation for going to KL but his actions had a much bigger impact on starting the war then theirs did. Even if you want to believe that Brandon's actions were justified because of your perception of Rhaelya, he went about things in the worst possible way and rapidly escalated things.

is there some sort of clause where interviewers can't ask neil and chris about feel or secret of happiness. i already know about new london boy, a new bohemia, schlager hit parade, and bullet for narcissus. because every interviewer keeps asking them about them. WHAT ABOUT THOSE TWO

Idk how many (if any) of you people invested in endangered gays are also invested in the Cosmere, but I feel the need to make the comparison between the two because I definitely feel like a chaotic evil mastermind. I’m the poorly funded and less competent branderson. I’m just a cosmere girly.

My hometown experienced 85% coverage of the sun during the total eclipse today. It peaked four minutes after my shift at work ended, right when first and second shift swap. I was the only person that came prepared with not one but two (!) pairs of eclipse glasses, so what began with myself and a coworker friend ooh-ing and awe-ing at the sky shortly became a crowd. I found myself surrounded by my mostly 60+ year old coworkers and we all took turns with the glasses, taking pictures, discussing how freakin neat that shit is. For a few minutes we forgot about our work day and simply took it in. There were even a few random strangers who happened upon our parking lot as a safe place to stop. Everybody was so excited and I was briefly the coolest kid on the block. It was a very nice moment.

#i feel bad saying this bc in the forward brandon says that sazed’s character arc gave him a lot of trouble in the back half of the series#but i can definitely sense that#i don’t really love the direction that it took#i mean i actually do think that him losing faith in the one thing he dedicated his life to is a really strong plot#like it’s the most Serious and unexpected but sadly believable thing that could happen to a character like sazed#but i’m unfortunately not convinced that tindwyl’s death would cause this#and i swear im not just being a hater because i didn’t like her a lot as a character#i just mean that we never really saw them interact that much? and sort of knew that they’d known each other back in terris but there were no#flashbacks or anything and so much of the past was tinged with animosity#so imo their love story came on kind of fast and didn’t convince me#which is why i think i can’t by grief for tindwyl as the reason for sazed’s prolonged mental breakdown#and i also feel bad saying this next part because personal grief obviously changes and affects a person more than other objective deaths#but sazed if fr acting like nobody else has ever died before#like sir your nation is in the midst of a millennia long still ongoing tragedy and desperately needs your specific help now#GET IT TOGETHER MAN!#mine#juli reads the cosmere#in his last pov he said something like ‘yes people have been dying this whole time but tindwyl was Different’ well actually no she wasn’t!#the rest of the terrismen are actively being targeted right now. let’s focus on that if you’re so worried babes!

*In response to a meme about a tv show adaptation of a book being written by a writer who had not read the book*
Brandon Sanderson: I have a fun story here. Early in my career, someone optioned the rights to make one of my stories (the Emperor's Soul) into a film. I was ecstatic, as it's not a story that at the time had gotten a lot of attention from Hollywood.
I met with the writer, who had a good pedigree, and who seemed extremely excited about the project; turned out, he'd been the one to persuade the production company to go for the option. All seemed really promising.
A year or so later, I read his script and it was one of the most bizarre experiences of my life. The character names were, largely, the same, though nothing that happened to them was remotely similar to the story. Emperor's Soul is a small-scale character drama that takes place largely in one room, with discussions of the nature of art between two characters who approach the idea differently.
The screenplay detailed an expansive fantasy epic with a new love interest for the main character (a pirate captain.) They globe-trotted, they fought monsters, they explored a world largely unrelated to mine, save for a few words here and there. It was then that I realized what was going on.
Hollywood doesn't buy spec scripts (original ideas) from screenwriters very often, and they NEVER buy spec scripts that are epic fantasy. Those are too big, too expensive, and too daunting: they are the sorts of stories where the producers and executives need the proof of an established book series to justify the production.
So this writer never had a chance to tell his own epic fantasy story, though he wanted to. Instead, he found a popularish story that nobody had snatched up, and used it as a means to tell the story he'd always wanted to tell, because he'd never otherwise have a chance of getting it made.
I'm convinced this is part of the issue with some of these adaptations; screenwriters and directors are creative, and want to tell their own stories, but it's almost impossible to get those made in things like the fantasy genre unless you're a huge established name like Cameron. I'm not saying they all do this deliberately, as that screenwriter did for my work, but I think it's an unconscious influence. They want to tell their stories, and this is the allowed method, so when given the chance at freedom they go off the rails, and the execs don't know the genre or property well enough to understand why this can lead to disaster.
Anyway, sorry for the novel length post in a meme thread. I just find the entire situation to be fascinating.

Started Yumi and the Nightmare Painter and im glad Brandon has finally caved and made a loser protagonist. Painter is the representation losers have really been missing in the cosmere. Not a shred of swag to him. Not an ounce of coolness. Finally we just have the epic adventure of guy who sucks and nobody likes him.
