Do you ever think about the fact that the dance of the dragons destroyed the best of their instigator.
Like if you're nice about them, you can't deny that both Rhaenyra and Aegon love their children.... and their dragon. Rhaenyra dies believing that only one of her children survived, and maybe not for long if you consider the context of their capture. Her beloved dragon led to the death of one of her children and was then killed . Aegon sons were butchered, and his daughter left alone. His dragon was loyal to his death.
They started the war as okay-ish people (they are both spoiled royal people, and it shows) and became the worst version of themselves. There isn't a rising in adversity message to their arc it's just a devolving.

I just saw this post talking about Metatron saying Cas is in love with humanity (Dean) and explaining how this is true because Cas loved being human, despite what he has been through he enjoyed having human feelings and I must say that I agree.
