Writing on a blog dedicated, at least in spirit, to our dissociative identity disorder, this is something that fascinates me. For context - living with the poster child disorder of "that's not even real" and "you're just faking it to get out of jail" and "you're just histrionic with bpd I know this because I took a psych class once in uni", that some fucking airheads still make their paycheck "criticising" in the psychology field (and teaching), the fear of being declared a faker, an attention seeker, a liar, a self-centered and stage-obsessed criminal-until-proven-otherwise came as a free package with the diagnosis. Just the suspicion of the diagnosis was enough for all of those labels. From whom? Everyone.
The first time I dared to open my mouth to my psychiatric nurse, she was putting me against the wall for lying and omitting, because in her view, I was doing too well with no explanation. In reality, at that point, I'd spent some months after becoming aware of the system getting to know them and reading up on how to get the basics of communication together, and working through the first chapters of Coping With Trauma-Related Dissociation, which helped us understand what we needed to do with one another in order to stabilise and feel safer in our everyday life. Things were actually going wonderfully, I wasn't lying, but I was omitting, yes. I was omitting, because even though at that point I knew nothing about DID beyond what I was learning from resources and my friend/now partner, who'd been in the community for a long time and gave us crucial peer support in terms of figuring our situation out, I knew extremely well the stigma associated with "split personality", and our first and primary instinct has always been to hide and cover the existence of the system.
But she was forcing it, so I told her. I was asking for help, yes, but with the context of doing so well - we were winning, and we wanted to keep winning.
She promptly told us we weren't allowed to leave, and started to set us up for involuntary inpatient stay. Exactly what we'd been afraid of the most: that "the psychiatric system" would imprison us and kill us, kill the parts of us who were vulnerable, with cocktails of medication in padded rooms and straitjackets and whatnot that we'd seen in the movies. (And, to a degree, during our actual inpatient stay years before.)
The resident psychiatrist did a quick evaluation of us and released us after, clearly annoyed at the nurse for overreacting and putting us in the extremely triggered and traumatised state that we were in, but it did permanent damage.
Very soon after, we discovered the online "discourse" on the validity of DID, and the "fake claiming" communities. This is all we inherited, first thing, with our diagnosis - which we did get after the above clusterfuck, within a year, with the aid of a specialising therapist and years of notes from our history, or so I assume. I can't remember, it's been years, and I have DID. The point is, even the DID community itself demands that you will never show a bright side to your disorder.
You either suffer all of the time, always, you hate yourself, you hate your other selves, you want to die, and you're forever a mess and you're in eternal war against yourself, or you're faking.
We are not this way and have never been. Prior to discovering the system, we were poorly. To spare the details, at 29 when we were diagnosed, we hadn't worked a day in our lives, dropped out of school at 12, and spent about a decade locked indoors with suicidal spirals being the expected main event of every three days or so. But our main strength has been our us, the family that we have, and the care that we've shown each other all along. Even if we can't love ourselves, we can love each other, and after learning communication - learning to listen, learning to talk - we've been doing phenomenally. Our condition has changed from treatment-resistant and debilitating to actually, we no longer need SSRI medication at all, after being on it for our whole lives. And luckily, this is enough proof for us, but not the world.
No, we're now in that funny place where our partially treated trauma/dissociative disorder looks like too much fun to the world. We're fine and we love each other. We indulge in dressup, we have our own silly little blogs and journals each with their own specific equipment like fancy ink pens and wares of stickers and decor, we have galleries of fake Instagram pictures of ourselves, we use PluralKit on Discord and talk to ourselves like we own the chat - among friends, anyway, or just between ourselves in our private one. All of this means we're fake, fake, fake, fake. God forbid a man has fun. God forbid a woman takes an afternoon to herself to give herself a makeover and go on a date. God forbid a guy just wants to feel comfortable and laugh and express himself, or have a chat with his closest friends.
We're not in enough pain all of the time to be "true" DID anymore. If we were "true" DID then we'd still be in the untreated, pre-diagnosed state. This is a stagnant disorder of identities that may never experience growth or true humanity. All I am allowed to be is a filthy, incapable hikikomori afraid of the world, because anything else is fucking weird to people.
I'm sorry, but. None of your fucking business. I've spent 33 years of my life split squarely on a tightrope over the chasms of "I don't want to die" and "I want to kill myself now". I'm 33 fucking years old and I've earned my goddamn license to feel good, actually. I'm allowed to be fucking weird because I'm developmentally disabled. I will never not be the way that I am, and I also have no intentions to ever be anything but the way that I am, I'm just aiming to be better at it.
This now means that I'm not actually allowed to talk about my disorder... basically anywhere but here and in therapy. No matter where I go, people treat me like a criminal. People who don't have DID tell me I'm faking for clout and larping (LARPing is great by the way and you should absolutely try it out instead of using it as a weird slur online) and they're the champions of true sufferers who are there to nobly remind me that REAL people with DID are actually so in pain all of the time and dying unrecognised while freaks like me... post on Tumblr for attention or whatever I don't fucking know I'm still disabled and in chronic pain and I can't do shit with myself regardless of our overall improvement - and people with DID tell me what I have isn't real DID and I'm "anti-recovery" or whatever because I don't subscribe to their specific dogma of recovery (which, for the record, every single microcosm of the recovery community has their own version of, and they all hate each other for it). The latest edition of how this fucked us over was our choice to write frankly about the positive sides of how the often negatively portrayed coping mechanisms of DID can be turned to work for recovery, and how things like substitute beliefs (believing things that are factually untrue such as 'I am an actual dragon trapped in a human suit' when you're not) can be used not to distance one from reality to escape but help one adapt into it (because I am a dragon in a human suit, a dentist cannot scare me), and had the whole conversation just without warning or any sort of notice deleted from the community. Mods never replied to my request on clarity on what the fuck they were doing and why, and I haven't been back in the community since, either.
And it's hilarious. The whole fucking thing is hilarious. You're faking it if you've recovered too much, because a true sufferer of a severe mental health condition would never recover, but if you don't recover enough, you're anti-recovery, and therefore also faking. There's a slim venue of acceptable suffering in an eternal still-shot in the middle, but you're not actually allowed to exist beyond it or past it in any capacity.
The only true DID case is a non-person who is incapable of growth and change, for a disorder that is all about identity, which by definition is all about growth and change.
I'm so tired of it. Sorry, freaks, I'm gonna freak the way that I freak from now on. I'm too well-adjusted these days to be your perfectly martyred poster patient.
ive found that partially treated mental illness can sometimes look to uninvolved onlookers like faked mental illness.
#this may be completely incoherent as I am presently having the pain of divine punishment laid squarely on me#but it's also important.#to me. personally#so like brain doesn't work I'm about to drop unconscious from the agony but also I must type#... I wrote this for so long the painkiller kicked in and I am no longer in agony that makes me see my ancestors waiting for me.#did#actuallydid

okay, so if you’re not writing the aquarium scene in the 118/217 scheming fix-it (god i love this) can you at least share what mishap and or shenanigan gets them banned from the aquarium?? (since you mentioned it in the tags i assume you picked one!)
The aquarium is Christopher's idea, because getting Buck and Tommy back together is the one thing he and Eddie can talk about without it devolving into shouting or week-long silences that make Eddie want to put his fist through his living room wall.
So if plotting to interfere in the open bear trap that is his idiot friends' breakup gets him an hour of uninterrupted screen time with Chris three times a week? He'll meddle in a way that would make even his abuela say, "cariño, that's a little much." He'll change his legal middle name to el metiche.
"Buck used to take me to see the otters when I was younger; they're his favorite. But the exhibit has been closed for a year because they've been redoing it," Chris says, then texts him a link to the aquarium website. "The big reopening is next week. If someone asked Buck to take Jee-Yun, he wouldn't be suspicious."
"Chris, you're a genius," Eddie says, a little awed. His entire body aches to reach through the laptop screen and across state lines to pull his kid into a hug, but all he can do is sit on his hands and hope his face shows all the love he feels.
A small, but genuine grin unfurls on Chris's face. "That's not news, dad."
Eddie decides to take the aquarium idea to what Chimney keeps calling the weekly 118-217 Shadow Summit to see if the rest of the group thinks it holds water—no pun intended—and is extremely offended when Dana gives him a slow blink and says, "That's actually not bad. Who came up with it?"
"Is it that hard to believe it was my idea?"
"Very."
Dana presses the rim of her wine glass to the sly, crimson curve of her mouth. With her victory rolls, winged eyeliner, and tattoos, she looks like the winner of a car show pinup contest. She also looks like an evil queen out of an old school Disney movie. At least five people in their general vicinity look like they'd thank her if she force-fed them a poisoned apple or turned into a giant dragon.
Eddie reaches into the bowl of popcorn by his elbow and throws a handful of it at her. She just takes a sip of her wine and serenely lets the kernels bounce off her.
"Knock it off before I put you both in a time out." Lucy drains the dregs of her beer and says to Chimney, "Having Buckley take your kid is the perfect excuse—she's, what, two? Three?"
"Five," Chim says with the heartache of a man whose baby is almost old enough to rent a car. "As long as we don't tell my wife that Jee's playing the part of the cutest MacGuffin ever in this little plot, we should be good. But how do we get Tommy there?"
"Short of planting a bomb in the penguin tank, I can't think of a reason Mr. Nature Boy himself would ever voluntarily go." Hen roots around in the popcorn bowl for the kernels with the most butter. "Actually, he might be thrilled if we did that. I don't think he likes birds very much."
Dana lifts a brow. "I smell a story."
"Does it smell like KFC?" Chim pops a pretzel in his mouth and chews loudly, grinning. "Once we've adjourned the cabal for the evening, remind me to tell you about Maurice."
Eddie doesn't know Nico very well—he can't get a read on the guy to save his life—but the smug smirk he's sporting looks entirely out of place. Nico takes the last mozzarella stick off the platter they'd ordered to share and puts it between his teeth like a cigar. He looks like the world's lamest oil baron.
Eddie looks at Dana in askance. Wordlessly, she plucks a piece of popcorn out of her hair and throws it at him. It nails him right between the eyes.
"Let me handle Kinard," Nico says. "I'll get him there, no problem."
To his credit, Nico does get Tommy to the aquarium the day of the sea otter exhibit grand reopening. And thanks to Chimney planting Chris's idea in Buck's head at the start of their next shift, Buck does take Jee-Yun.
Unfortunately, their paths never cross, because while the penguin habitat doesn't explode, the sea jelly gallery does, completely flooding the first floor. When the aquarium is forced to evacuate everyone, Buck and Jee-Yun end up at the Chili's down the street, while Tommy ends up riding in an ambulance with an old woman who gets stung by a box jellyfish.
"I don't understand how this happened!" Lucy shouts, keeping her fingers on the ankle pulse of a man in the middle of an allergic reaction to a lilliputian jelly sting as Hen and Chim pump him full of epinephrine and then start administering compressions.
Eddie would help, but he's carrying three kids—two in his arms, one on his back—through shin-deep water to safety while attempting to dodge all the bluebottles floating on the surface. Dana glides past him to get the next group of kids waiting to be rescued, not a hair out of place. She looks like a fucking mermaid. He's gonna trip her the next time they pass each other.
Annoyed, Lucy casts around and then asks, "Has anyone seen Nico?"
Just in time for the man himself to sedately walk through the pandemonium, two bewildered penguins tucked under his arms like purses. He smiles brightly. "Hey, did Kinard pass through here, by any chance? Phase two of my plan is ready to go."
Eddie stares at him. "What was phase one?"
He never does find out what exactly phase one entailed, but it's enough to get them permanently banned from the aquarium for life.
"If you ask me, the punishment so does not fit the crime," Nico says, digging an elbow into Eddie's side as he jostles for room in the back of Athena's squad car.
Eddie says nothing. He's too busy mentally composing the short-answer portion of his application for the El Paso Fire Department, although, in the end, it doesn't matter. He completely forgets everything he plans on writing when Athena slides in, glances in the rearview mirror, and shouts, "Those better not be penguins in my back seat, Edmundo Diaz!"
He and Chris spend two hours talking about it during their next call, so Eddie calls it a win.

The moonlight falls on the papers placed upon your office desk as you go on reading while sipping on your cup of tea with more papers in the piles beside your desk.
You weren't expecting any patients at this hour as you were checking some reports before ending your shift but as the saying goes, Expect the unexpected. So there he was entering your office with a pout on his lips looking beat up.
Your instant response was putting down your cup as you stood up, several thoughts running in your head. Did he get these injuries in a Hollow? Or worse fighting some high level ethereal.
“Who hurt you?” The worried look on your face was obvious as you asked him to sit down to take a look.
“Chief”
.....
“Huh?”
The worried expression was now replaced by confusion. Why would miyabi do that? Of course she should have a reason, those thoughts ended as he spoke up again.
“Well well isn't this embarrassing, the chief and I had a sparring session and now I look like this”
“Man she wasn't playing this time” he murmured under his breath which was pretty audible in the peaceful office. A light giggle broke out your lips as you came to the conclusion on why this had happened.
“Really Miss doc? I came up looking this injured in the night and you are laughing,Won't you at least treat me with care?”
“Pfft, it's just some minor injuries you been through worse asaba but don't worry I'll ask a nurse to fix your bandages”
You were about to make your way to your desk to call upon a nurse when he pulled you back hugging you from the back, his breath fanning over your ears as he mumbled.
“I didn't come all this way for you to push me out, you know how much i hate travelling long distances”
It's true he is lazy like that and it's not like he cannot do this by himself yet he is here asking for your help when he could be home sleeping.
You held his hand which was interlocked around your waist as you faced him.
“Alright, sit back down I'll do it”
He smiled like a kid winning a prize and sat back on the bed watching you move around the office gathering the first aid kit, you came back with the kit and several bandages in your hand placing them on the desk.
“Okay, show me the wounds that have been reopened”
“Do I really need to do all that doc? You already know where it is, can't I just sit here all pretty for you?”
He said as he gave you a teasing smile clearly stating his intentions once again.
You sigh as your hands hover above his his tie first then the shirt buttons undoing them one by one as he quietly indulges you taking it off him with a satisfied smile resting on his until you pulled off his waist and stomach, he lets out a low grunt trying to make it look like it hurt while you just stared at him unamused.
“Can you please be gentle with me doc? I am a really fragile person”
“I am sure no fragile person can charge into hollows like it's nothing but whatever you want”
You checked around his wound and it hasn't been opened which was good. You just need to change the dressing, as you were thinking of changing the dressing your fingers were hovering around his abs, and how could he miss out on a chance like this.
“You like what you see doc? It took a lot of effort so i would like you to parise me more if you wanna” he asked with a slight smirk adorning his lips. You quickly take your hand back tearing your gaze away from him to the box besides.
“Ahem, i was checking the wound” even though what you said was true he surely doesn't mind you checking something else out on him.
You slowly but carefully wrapped the bandages around him and put the box aside giving him space to dress up but it seemed like he didn't want to do that either.
“won't you help me with this doc?” you wish you could dig yourself a hole, his advances were getting too much for you to act nonchalant even though the blush on your face is quite obvious to him and he is enjoying every second of it.
You help him put on his shirt and tie back, whispering quietly under your breath which was clearly audible to him.
“You cannot keep getting away with this” before leaning in to give him a final kiss as you ward him out of your office to pack your stuff to leave with him, you know he is standing outside and he won't go anywhere without you.

Show Me Yours.
"All the bad dreams that you hide
Show me yours, I'll show you mine"
-Phoebe Bridgers
pairing: Daryl Dixon x Reader
wordcount: 1453
Summary: You remember the night Daryl showed you his scars for the first time, while you were patching him up from a failed supply run.
A/N: guys i am so sleep deprived and swamped with work and coursework but i really wanted to get back into writing for the new year and revive my page, so sorry if this is absolute dogshit I honestly cant tell!! As always my asks are open and any spelling errors or critiques pls let me know! Happy New Year Lovelies!!
The archer was simply not what many people had preemptively assumed. He shouldn't be defined by his exterior or the way he lashed out when threatened, like a wild and dangerous wolf caught in a snare, because it's simply just not him. You know that better than anyone else.
You remember the night he dropped his walls to you, back at the prison, which felt like a lifetime ago; it might as well be.
It was storming badly outside; the wind howled and thrashed against the prison walls loudly, drowning out the sounds of walkers ravenous growls, yet the noise couldn't drown out your incessant worrying for the archer who had set out earlier that very day.
The rain seemed to pick up in momentum every time your brain screamed the different possibilities to itself. You couldn't sleep. You wouldn't until you knew he was safe and sound.
Some god might have been listening that night, he might have taken pity on your poor mortal soul for all that you'd lost, maybe the higher power who sent him back to you knew you'd need him yet. The sound of the large prison gates being pulled open was the sweetest music to your ears.
You remember racing out towards the gates to greet him, your joy faltering slightly as you took in his sorry state, soaked to the bone from the unrelenting rain and some gashes that decorated his cheek and arms, but alive nonetheless. Breathing is all you can ask for in this unforgiving new world. You know that now, more than ever.
That night you took him up to your room, the small cell in the furthest corner, which you claimed the first night you all fought your way into this block, although you didn't actually sleep in it for a good while. The fear overpowering your exhaustion. You can't really remember the cell walls anymore. The memory slipped from your brain slowly the more places you sought refuge in throughout the years.
You had walked him in slowly, closing the curtain behind you to conceal you both behind a screen. It almost gave the illusion of safety, being in a little room like that, secluded from prying eyes.
"Are you hurt badly?" you asked him quietly, grabbing a small towel and filling a bowl with some lukewarm water.
He shook his head from left to right, eyeing you warily as you lowered yourself to sit next to him with the now damp towel, gently dragging it up and down his bare arms to clear the grime away, your movements featherlight as you ghosted over a gash on his arm. A silence laid between you both, heavy but not exactly uncomfortable.
"Where else are you hurt?" you whispered, breaking the fragile silence, Daryl seemed to go ridgid at the question, staring straight ahead, chewing nervously on his bottom lip, a habit you had observed from him since way back at the quarry.
After a few long seconds in silence Daryl gently makes a move, removing the soaked leather vest, which fell to the ground with a wet plop, and slowly unbuttoning his dark grey shirt to reveal his back to you.
You held back a shocked gasp as you took in his back, long deep scars stretched across his back, colouring him in deep purples and reds. The scars have ragged and angry edges, and your body nearly ached at seeing them, mirroring his own pain in yourself. There was a new cluster of gashes where he must have skinned his back falling today. You gently shook yourself for pausing so long and sprung back into tending to his wounds. Thinking better than to acknowledge the blatant vulnerability in the moment for fear of scaring him off.
You reached out slowly to press the damp towel to his back, wishing desperately to somehow absorb the years of pain from his body, to take it into yourself and erase this past from him. However, as much as you wanted it to be possible, it wasn't. So you had to make do with easing the pain of his newest wounds, hoping to god you could convey the affection you held for him.
You cleaned his wounds with the utmost care that night, gentle movements that ensured the sting of the antiseptic was numbed, as you contemplated breaking the long, vulnerable silence.
"Daryl?" you had whispered attentively, the end of his name lilting up into a slight question. You weren't exactly sure what you were going to say yet.
"It's fine" He replied quickly, practically cutting you off, his tone gruff and almost defensive.
"it's not... it doesn't have to be fine" You whisper back, a small correction, desperately wanting, needing him to know that you cared.
The silence afterwards was long and painful, you were scared to move in case he snapped out of it, snatched his shirt back and left. in case he never spoke to you again after this, in case you pushed too far, crossed some line, some barrier he had.
What happened next was what you had least expected at the time. His shoulders, imperceptibly, started to tremble. it was such a slight movement that you could have missed it had you not been paying such close careful attention to the man before you.
You lay your hand carefully on his shoulder, offering him the slightest physical reassurance, the movement unsure and hesitant. You gave him space and time to flinch away, to turn sharply and tell you off before leaving.
But he didn't go. He didn't snap or shout or push or shove.
You kept your hand steady on the archer's back, slowly leaning forward to wrap your arms around him carefully, slow and steady in a deliberate effort not to startle him. After nearly a year in his company you had learned that Daryl startled easily, lashed out quick, and now you were beginning to understand the root cause. You cursed yourself for not seeing the signs sooner, for resenting his attitude in those first months, for arguing when he pushed you away.
It made sense now, and it broke your heart.
He let out a broken, shaky sigh as your arms wrapped around him, his breaths coming faster and irregularly as he finally let every defense crumble. In that moment nothing could have pulled you away from him, nothing at all. You were consumed by the need to comfort him, to soothe his aches and pains, to take the unbearable weight off of his shoulders.
After what felt like an eternity, and simultaneously not nearly long enough, the archer finally spoke.
“S’a hell of an ugly sight” He mumbled, his voice uncharacteristically broken, soft.
“No. no it's not… it… you could never be.” You whispered back, your voice hushed and gentle. You pulled back, gently beckoning him to turn to face you, desperate to tell him to his face.
“You're perfect, scars and all.” you whispered, grabbing his face up in both hands, urging him to believe, to understand. He just stared back stunned, his eyes searching yours long and hard. For a fleeting moment you were worried you had once again overstepped, that he would push you away and leave, running from you and the prison walls.
All doubt left your mind when he leaned forward, the horrific world surrounding you was suddenly forgotten as his lips met yours in a soft, gentle manner. It caught you off guard before you softened against him, giving in to the magnetic pull between you both. The world turned off around you, the horrific, awful things you'd seen, and done, together became irrelevant as he pulled you in. Your hands stayed cupped around his jaw as your other went to tangle in the hair as the back of his neck.
When he finally broke the kiss, he leaned back to give you a long, meaningful look, his eyes taking in your facial features, your short and rapid breaths mingling with one anothers in the inches between both your faces.
The storm raged on outside the prison walls, but the threat that night had been swiftly forgotten as you curled up in the Archers arms, so naturally it was as if you had been doing it your whole life.
That night will never leave your mind even now, when youre looking at him from across the room in your apartment in the commonwealth, watching him chasing RJ about the house as laughter fills the air, or when you're standing in the doorway, listening to him read to Judith.
It was the night he dropped his guard, the night he was brave enough to rip down the walls he had built to keep you out. The night he became yours.

Okay but 32 is actually really annoying. 30 is just, whatever, it's a clean number that's low, "people aren't going to spam the same person THAT much"-thinking. 32 adds "ooooh binary numbers so we can just use exponents of 2 :D" to it... which has MULTIPLE ISSUES!!!
First off, what if there are NO notifications? Do you still want there to be a 1 because you have no 0 case? No? You wanna use a boolean whether notifs are there at all in general? Congrats you just added another bit in storage as its own variable for *1* state. Which would be an additional 32 states if you made it part of your notification number. Okay, so, you look up how integers work and what numbers represent and do what most programmers would do: You start counting with 0 and end up with a max of 31 notifications, because 0-31 is 32 possible states. Great, first issue fixed.
Second issue! 32 isn't really used a lot as the max number chosen. Why's that? I mean, 16 is popular enough, you basically can't avoid 256 if you start looking, and even 64, just one additional power of 2, is very popular in Minecraft! So what's wrong with 32? Well, it's 2^5, AKA 2*2*2*2*2. That means you need 5 bits (with 2 possible states, 0 or 1, each) to represent it. Seems easy enough. Until you realise that now you're probably claiming a specific byte in storage, which is 8 bits, and are only using 5 of those! 3 are being wasted and sure, you can probably reuse them if you write your program's functions to access and categorise the storage it is using... but that's a lot of work that you can very, very easily fuck up. It's easier to just go "fuck it, we use the whole byte" and go for 256 possible states (or 255 as max number of notifications). 16 is exactly 2^4, so half a byte - At that point, you can get TWO variables out of each claimed byte, and then it's worth to optimise it a bit on the side of the program by telling it to cut the first or last 4 bits when looking for either of the variables hidden in the byte. (Nowadays, this is less likely to be done because storage is cheap and abundant. Games used to perform miracles on fractions of the storage because they had to in order to exist; A LOT of storage was reused for multiple different variables at different times, which is why so many weird skip glitches exist where you for example instantly beat Pokemon Blue. Using the same storage for multiple different variables of different types is pretty much illegal nowadays, as the high-level languages do their best to keep you from shooting yourself in the foot with needless optimising of plentiful storage.)
So why does Minecraft use 64, which is 2^6, for its stacks? I don't know. If anybody knows, please tell me; But I'm guessing it's just the closest power of 2 to the amount that works best balance wise. More interesting is why it uses 64 instead of 63, since I suggested using 31 instead off 32. Minecraft has a lot of different items that could be in that inventory slot, so it needs an item ID to know what is in there. The case of NO item is handled through that ID - If there is effectively no item ID, it's an empty slot. So the integer that counts the amount doesn't need to account for it not being asked. (This is similar to adding a boolean for no notifs, except it covers more states by covering all possible items, working together with the integer of the amount to determine the actual content of the inventory slot.) So it doesn't need a 0 state, instead it can start with 1. For the notification system, we can only ever have notifications and no, I don't know, alarms or something that are separate but clog up the same system while overriding the notification counter. So the notification system will only deal with notifications, and only ever count how many there are. A separate variable for 0 is pointless when it will always add atleast 2 possible states, when you can just count 1 less and have your 0 state built-in.
Of course, all of this is pointless if you just use regular unsigned 32-bit integers that have a max count of 4,294,967,295 (starting your count with 0). (For the amount of bits, we don't run into the issue of 2^5 with 32, because 32 is a multiple of 8 - The amount of bits in a byte. So we just use 4 bytes for the integer.) At that point, fuck it, just let the notification counter go up to 999 or whatever amount of digits doesn't break your UI.
The fact that Bluesky's "pending notifications" counter only goes up to 30 suggests some very specific things about the usage patterns its designers were expecting.

Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)
—thinking about meeting the big bad arkham knight for the first time…
contains: 18+ SMUT MDNI, fem!reader, dubcon, p in v, little angst, some biting, jason being a little meanie, ooc bc it’s hard for me to write him being overly mean, no aftercare, blindfolding, depictions of violence, orgasm delay & denial.
When the Dark Knight himself called on your help, you never imagined it would involve sitting on the edge of an abandoned shopping mall on Founder’s Island, of all places, to keep an eye on a new vigilante whose name you didn’t even know.
You had been sitting quietly on your perch for what felt like an eternity, your muscles ached slightly from remaining so still, but you knew that patience was key.
You glanced down at your watch waiting for the slightest signal from Babs—heart racing with anticipation, hoping for the moment she would finally give you the signal to proceed.
“You find out anything else about him, Babs?” You speak through the intercom in your mask to Barbara, unable to longer deal with the dead silence.
“Negative,” she mechanically says.
“Does anyone know anything about this guy?” You question, eyes glazing over some military militia fililing in and out of the mall.
“His background is fairly limited, which is why you’re there—to gather more intel,” she says, tapping away at her computer. “Sources can't seem to agree on much more than his name,” she briefly pauses, “The Arkham Knight.”
“The Arkham Knight? Who calls themselves that? Must be a fuckin’ lunatic,” you remark, narrowing your eyes to get a better look at the figures.
“If only that were the case,” Babs sighs. “He’s shrewd and sharp. More importantly, he appears to have a vendetta, which makes him particularly dangerous. He seems to understand Bruce thoroughly—he’s done his homework.”
"Could it be an well-adversed escapee who made it into the city? Maybe Bruce left a bad taste in his mouth after being thrown in the asylum, so now he holds a grudge against him?" You prob, the uncertainty hanging in the air.
"Highly unlikely. No one within the asylum would have the capability to organize, let alone lead, such a massive assault," Babs states firmly, her conviction unwavering.
"Well, one things for sure, this 'Arkham Knight' may think he knows the ole' bat, but nobody really knows him," you say, making a conscious effort to ease some tension.
“His militia is heading to the north side,” Babs states decisively. “Approach from the south side to avoid detection.”
“Gotcha,” you aver, using a grappel gun to maneuver yourself off the side of the building, and into the gritty dirt beneath you.
"Be careful. He's—he's dangerous. Stay alert," Babs warns, her voice wobbiling ever so slightly.
"I will. Over and out," you affirm, with a nod.
You make your way to the south side entrance, staying low and quiet to avoid the militia thugs patrolling the area.
As you approach the stairs leading to the generator that Babs disabled earlier, you climb up and squeeze into the vent, positioning yourself just under the entrance of the department store.
Peering through the grates, you spot several armed thugs escorting someone into the building.
Gripping the voice synthesizer strapped to your thigh, you bring it to your mouth and quietly issue a command. “Got another three out by the front gate. Three more by the other. Need backup out here,” you say, your voice altered to sound like a guard’s.
“Affirmative,” one of the men responds, signaling to his comrades where they need to go.
They acknowledge him and shuffle out.
“It’s almost too easy,” you think to yourself before dropping through the grates and sneaking down the maintenance corridor leading to the upper floors.
Bruce had already done the bulk of fixing the broken elevator.
All you need to do is press the panel behind the elevator door to reveal the large shaft below, where the fans, thanks to Bruce, are now stationary.
You ease your way down the elevator shaft silently with your grapple gun. You find your way down with ease, feeling a little overly cocky.
Turning to your side, you see two thugs that are sprinting over to you, weapons in hand.
"Shit," you curse, propelling yourself up to kick one of their weapons out of their hands, kicking your leg across his face with much force, sending him to the ground.
The other is more stubborn.
He shoots at you, but he misses.
You kick the weapon from his hand, but he swings at your face, sending you back before he slams your body into the ground.
You use what strength you have to rock yourself up, slamming your head against his, catching him off guard, and sending him back off of you.
You haphazardly stand as he sprints back towards you. You swipe your leg across, tripping him and making him fall to the ground.
You hit him in the head with your grapple gun, so he'll pass out. You exhale deeply, catching your breath, eyes catching sight of a figure to your side.
"Ah. Look what we have here. A stray bat," a modulated voice spoke.
You turn to face the person wearing a militaristic version of a bat suit. "Who the hell are you?" You gruff, spitting some blood out.
"Who the hell am I?" He retorts, sounding amused, before his voice turns cold and distorted. "No. Who the hell are you?"
"A fuckin' fairy,"you dryly say, spitting more blood out.
He lets out a gravelly, mirthless chuckle. "Got jokes. Huh?"
You narrow your eyes at him. "I'm not a bat."
He hums, inching closer, his heavy boots making a metallic thud with each step. "It's in your best interest to not lie to me," he leers.
"I'm not," you hiss. "I'm just helping him."
He hums, low and ominous. "Didn't think the big bat needed help," he sneers. "Guess I was mistaken."
Before you could speak, a low voice echoed around the room. "Commander," a militia thug said, addressing the man you were speaking to, not sparing you a glance.
"What do you want?" The modulated voice grits, clearly agitated by his intrusion.
"Someone's hacked our communication system. Impersonated a guard," the militia thug says in a reverent tone.
The Knight lets out an irritated sigh, eyes darting to the militia thug. "Little late on the heads up," his tone cold and calculated as he gestures to you.
The military thug draws his gun up to point at your head.
The Knight holds his hand up. "Don't bother. I'll take care of her," he exasperates. "If anyone else slips in these walls under your watch, I'll kill you."
The militia thug nods, dropping his gun to a resting position.
"Get out of my face," the Knight spits, striding the thug out of the room.
"You're him," you state with complete certainty. "The Arkham Knight."
"The one and only," his tone is smug and oozing confidence.
This doesn't make sense.
Bruce said he never comes to lower floors, especially with so little protection around him.
"What? Cat got your tongue," the Knight jests in a sarcastic, mocking tone, boots clunking as he stepper closer.
"No. I'm—I'm just in awe of how ridiculous that suit looks," you sputter without realizing what you're saying, anxiety clawing up your spine as he steps in front of you.
He lets out a condescending laugh. "Was gonna go for black, but I didn't want Bruce to get all jealous," he drags out with words lazily, sarcasm apparent in his tone, before grabbing you by the arm.
You knew better than to try and fight him.
He had a whole militia on his side and you, a mere grapple gun.
He moved you through several corridors, passing several militia men strapped with weapons.
He had converted the once cheerful, bright mall into a military base with sandbags, barricades, and checkpoints around the area.
"Must have cost a fortune," you murmur under his tight grip as he leads you through another dark corridor.
"The cost is irrelevant. What matters is the results," his tone is dismissive and arrogant. "And soon Gotham will see the true value of my investment."
You nod weakly, turning to look forward as he leads you into a room heavily guarded by more militia members. Your eyes glaze around the room he pushed you into.
The room was sterile.
It had a bed to the side, maps, strategic plans scattered across the walls, and various gadgets.
If you had to guess, it was a bedroom.
Though it was devoid of any personal touches.
Seemingly serving only as a place of respite.
"What is this room?" You ask curiously, staying stationary as he closes the door behind him.
"Rest room," his voice is dry.
"Why so sterile?" You ask, feeling a surge of confidence.
He hesitates a moment, deciding how much to reveal. "This room...serves its purpose. It's a place to rest and recharge. Nothing more," he says in a guarded tone.
"Why'd you bring me here?" You question with caution.
"You're a liability," he rasped. "I should eliminate you for the sake of my mission."
As he spoke, he closed the distance between you, his face inches from yours.
"What?" Your eyes lock with his, bile rising up your throat. "You're just...going to kill me?"
"I might," he answers, cold and dark. "If you can be resourceful to me...perhaps I'll let you live."
You let out a shallow breath. "How do you mean?"
"How do I mean?" He dryly chuckles as he retorts your question. "How do you think I mean?" He questions, already slightly irritated.
He bends down next to you to pick up a loose piece of fabric. "Put the blindfold on," he says hastily, ripping off your mask.
You jerk your face to the side as he does so.
"Why?" You timidly question as he presses the fabric to your chest.
"Stop asking so many God-damn questions," his words were icy and clipped. "You want to leave?"
"Yes," you whisper.
"This is the price of your freedom," he asserted.
"Put it on."
You hesitate for a moment before taking the piece of fabric and placing it over your eyes, tying it tightly in the back. Then you stand there, fingertips playing the hem of your shirt to try and suppress your uneasiness.
All you hear is a faint hiss from what you assume is his mask as he pulls it off his face, revealing a simple black mask that covers the majority of his face except his eyes and his mouth.
You can hear your heartbeat in your ears, inhaling a deep breath.
"What's wrong? Nervous?" He taunts, his voice unmodulated, gloved fingers coming up to trace down your jawline.
You pull away slightly, not expecting it.
"Ease up," he says, his hand coming back up to brush up on your skin.
You don't move under his touch this time, letting his hand explore your body.
"Never touched a woman before?" You sarcastically question, as his hands skim to the bottom of the shirt, easing it up a little.
"What business is that of yours?" He asks, his voice a little defensive.
"Need to know what I'm working with," you jokingly say.
He jerks you towards him by your hand. You squeal at his harsh touch. "Make no mistake. I am in control. I can kill you or have you killed with the snap of my fingers," he snarls.
"Do not test my patience."
You release a shaky breath at his sudden change.
"Nod, so I know you hear me," he adopted his signature authoritative tone.
You nodded fervently to not piss him off again.
"Good girl," he praises, fingers gripping the hem of your shirt again, pulling it over your head and throwing it on the ground.
The tension was palpable as you stood before him in your simple bra and pants.
You were at his mercy.
The thought didn't scare you as much as it should have. Instead, you found a strange thrill in the unexpected, a pleasure in the unknown.
He steps closer, the metallic clank of his boots giving away his position. You can feel his warm breath on your skin. The feeling made your chest tighten and palms clammy with disquiet.
You jumped a little as you felt his lips press into yours with a blazing kiss, though your lips moved with much haste against his, moving a mile a minute.
What the hell were you doing?
Your mind was a whirlwind of conflicting thoughts, but your body seemed to have a mind of its own.
This was a recon mission, and yet here you were, kissing the very same guy you were supposed to help take down.
The internal conflict was tearing you apart.
This was you bartering for your freedom, you try to rationalize.
But then, why were you so hot and bothered?
You couldn't help the knot that twisted in your stomach at the fiery exchange and the pool of wetness you're sure had gathered in your panties.
"Take your pants off," the words fall off his tongue in a mumble into your lips, almost as if it was an ask.
But you knew it was an order.
Your hands move quickly to the waistband of your pants, tugging them down rather quickly. Then, you step over them to push them to the side.
He hums a sound of satisfaction. "So obedient."
You release a sigh, notably unlike your previous ones out of apprehension.
This one was all pleasure; there was no mistake about that.
His lips press back to yours briefly but powerfully before his hands tug down your panties with force.
"Christ. Do you like this?" His tone is incredulous and skeptical as he sees some of your glistening arousal.
You don't answer, only swallow hard.
"Answer me," he commands, firm and detached.
"Yes," you swiftly say.
He huffs at your revelation, outwardly revolted though internally pleased. You feel his hands push you back until your legs hit the edge of a bed before forcing you to lay back.
You lay docile as you hear the soft hiss of seals releasing as he shed his suit. The creak of armor plating echoed around the room, followed by a rustle of fabric and wiring as the suit's inner layer was exposed.
His fingers skim your thighs, eliciting a whine from you as he maneuvers himself on top of your body. Without warning, his cock slides into your aching cunt.
He grunts at the contact as he slips himself deeper into you.
Your body jerks forward, mouth hanging wide open as he pumps himself in and out of you, gripping your thighs tightly.
He moves quickly and has no plans to slow down anytime soon, and you need to come.
So, you slowly move your fingers down to rub small circles around your clit, moaning loudly.
He scowls, leaning down to bite your shoulder in warning.
You hiss as his teeth sink into your flesh.
"Behave," he instructs, pulling your hand away from your aching clit.
He grips your leg so it lays flat against his chest, letting him hit a deeper angle that has him groaning.
"What would the Dark Knight have to say?" His tone is venomous as he continues. "Huh?" He urges. "His latest project getting fucked by me?" He grits, fingers digging deeper into the fat of your thigh.
"Should I make you ask him?"
"Ask him your fuckin' self," you grit out, trying to concentrate on the orgasm blooming in your lower stomach.
He lets out a harsh, menacing chuckle.
"Won't have time to ask when I kill him where he stands."
You lean your head back, mouth agape, feeling yourself on the cusp of relief.
"Don't come," his voice booms around the small room, clouding your ears.
"I can't—I can't hold it," you whine, squirming with desire.
"You can and you will," he spat, pumping into you faster—testing you.
You let out a strangled moan as you grip the sheets under your tight, feeling your nails dig into your palms through the fabric, attempting to think about anything other than your raging need to come.
He lets out an anguished groan.
You could tell he was painfully close—as were you.
While he comes, certainly feeling euphoric, you are left with the feeling of tightness and a looming release.
"Can I—please," you beseech.
A twisted smile you can't see overtakes his face at hearing your beg.
"Go on then," he stoically says—like he's being generous.
Your fingers reach down to rub your clit with speed; it doesn't take much time until you're moaning loudly, and your arousal coats your fingers, even dripping onto the sheets beneath you.
Legs shaking, you pull your fingers away, trying to recuperate.
You aren't sure you've ever had a better orgasm in your life.
"Flip over. We aren't done here," he issued in a low tone, just as you were coming down from your high.
You paused briefly before weakly flipping your body over so your stomach lay flat on the bed.
He grips your hips upward, positioning you so your hands and knees are pressed into the mattress, making you hiss due to soreness.
Pulling you by your hips back, he positions his cock into your entrance, slipping inside you with ease again. You wail at the contact, still delicate—he doesn't care.
He pumps faster and faster with no regard to your sensitive state, fingers digging into your hips as he pushes you back onto him.
You're already starting to feel a tightness in your stomach, signaling your impending orgasm.
You won't last long with him drilling into you so rapidly, and the groans that fall from his lips have you panting and wailing.
Since he appears to like a beggar—you beg.
"Please. Can I—can I?" You plead, feeling your cunt start to tighten around his cock.
"Oh. You're not coming again," he spoke, his voice gravelly and breathy. "This one is just for me—just for me."
You let out a whine as you feel him come, cursing under his breath again as you are left with the feeling of tension and longing.
His breathing is labored as he shuffles to put his gear back on. You stay in the same position he left you in until he orders you to do otherwise.
"Get dressed," his voice is modulated again.
It's colder.
You slowly get off the bed, stand, and attempt to skim for your clothes with the stupid blindfold on.
He rips it off. "Leave. Now. Before you find I'm not so merciful the second time around," his tone was eerie.
You nod feebly, gripping your clothes and slipping them on impetuously, not even checking if they are inside out or facing the right way.
Turning on your heels, you head for the door you came in, looking over your shoulder when you hear his voice again.
"And remember, you owe me for not slaughtering you," his voice dripped with malice.
You turn back, forcefully pushing the door open as you walk with intention and speed toward the back exit.
He knew you wouldn't tell the Bat anything.
What could you tell him?
That the Arkham Knight fucked you so good you’re going to be sore for the weeks to come.
You slip your mask on to alert Babs that you are leaving the area.
Her voice booms through the intercom in your mask.
"Find anything of interest?" She questions, none the wiser.
You continue to walk, half listening.
"You there?" She implores.
"Huh? Oh, no. Nothing worth noting," you suspire.
"Are you alright?” She asks with a concerned tone.
"Yeah. Just...tired. Talk later," you hurriedly say, cutting the line and making your way over to your vehicle a bit away from the facility.
The sex was transactional, you remind yourself.
Though, that reminder didn't stop the Arkham Knight's presence from lingering on your skin for days after the interaction, a haunting reminder of the forbidden thrill you'd shared.
Gotham's darkness had never felt so alive and so painfully tempting.
a/n: don't look at me. i'm just as surprised as you are.

so illario was in the final battle
and this was supposed to be a drabble, but I cannot be trusted to write Illario and Lidia succinctly. TW for a semi graphic description of wounds - I can't tell if it's not really that bad or if I just think the human body is neat so I'm marking that down anyway. no death or descriptions of the wounds being inflicted, though; this is fully set post-battle. the endgame spoilers are fairly mild though - just the location of the final fight.
if you saw my WIP Wednesday, this is what that snippet was from! I hope you enjoy it as much as these two enjoy arguing with each other. thank you for reading!
The dried blood matting half of Lidia’s bangs down against her split scalp didn’t bother her nearly as much as it bothered Teia. She fussed over her gently, blotting a damp rag against Lidia’s head and tutting like a disappointed mother.
“This is what happens,” she scolded between soft pats. “You always run ahead, and you always draw attention, and you always get yourself hurt.”
Absentmindedly, Lidia replied, “I usually work alone.”
“Yes, and this is why.”
“Mm.” The only sign she felt pain was a series of rapid blinks when Teia pressed against a particularly painful cut.
“If you would stop looking around, I’d be done faster.”
Lidia turned her head back toward Teia. “Is it still bleeding?”
“Not that I can see.”
She rose to her feet and brushed the dust of fallen Minrathous buildings off her thighs. “Then I’ll live.”
Teia gave up quickly. She was no one’s parent, no matter how much she cared. “Suit yourself. But Lidia?”
“Hm?”
“You’ve done immensely well. Not just here - since Lucanis’ return as well. House Dellamorte is lucky to have you.”
She smiled thinly. “We’re all just Crows today, Teia.”
“Yes, we are.”
“Speaking of Lucanis…”
Teia nodded her head in the direction of the raucous cheering and the gathered crowd surrounding a few figures climbing down from the rooftop where the final confrontation had taken place. They both saw the flash of a purple jacket at the same time, and a wave of relief washed over them as they shared a look.
“Vi is back a ways, checking the fallen for ours so we can arrange the funerals,” Teia continued softly. “Since you’re upright, could you see to them as well?”
“Of course. Tell Lucanis not to worry about us and just take care of himself if you get a chance to talk to him.”
Teia nodded, and Lidia turned away. She hugged her cape around herself like a blanket as she snaked her way through what was left of the Minrathous streets, hopping over and ducking under various bits of debris that cluttered the city. She caught a few of her fellow Crows out of the corners of her eyes as she passed - most bloodied, bruised, and limping, but alive - and they all shared reassuring smiles with her once they noticed her. We lived, said their grins. We won, and we lived.
She saw Viago leaning against a mostly-intact building, heaving a deep sigh, and she called out to him. He lifted his eyes to her as she approached, but his lips were pulled down into a scowl.
Quietly, Lidia asked, “Is it that bad?”
“We lost just over twenty,” he answered, voice low and solemn. “Not as many as I expected, but… less than ideal. Most were fledgelings, but there’s a small handful of master assassins.”
She felt a selfish desire to ask anyone I know? but stifled it. “Do you need anything? A hand with the bodies? A cart?”
“A cart,” he agreed with a nod. “Though I don’t know if we could get one to the eluvian with the state of Minrathous. We might have to carry them through on stretchers.” He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed again. “Which means we’d need able-bodied volunteers, a relatively clear path back to the mirror, enough stretchers to make for less back-and-forth, a cart waiting in the Crossroads…”
“Maybe we can ask Lucanis if he knows a clearer route?” Lidia suggested softly.
He blinked, then sighed with relief. “You saw him?”
“Teia and I. He looks alright. Reasonably unharmed.”
He nodded again, more slowly this time. “It's nice to have some good news, at least.”
Lidia looked past Viago, into the building, and saw rows and rows of white linens draped over bodies. A cold, sick feeling gawed at her stomach as she counted them, and she wondered how many more would succumb to their injuries or simply hadn’t yet been found.
Another fear gripped her, too. She scanned the bodies again, making note of the taller ones. From the shoes she could see, none looked more distinctive than the regular steel-tipped Crow boots. Though some were burned beyond recognition. She felt guilty, searching for just one body among the two dozen lying before her, and guiltier still that she was looking for him at all.
But she hadn’t seen him with the other Crows. He should have been with Teia, or Lucanis, or even here pestering Viago endlessly. She shouldn’t care. He didn’t deserve it. But she asked anyway.
“Viago–”
“I don’t know.”
“I didn’t even ask yet.”
“No, but you have that look on your face.” Viago sighed and shook his head. “I don’t know where Illario is. Teia saw him last.”
Lidia frowned. “She didn’t mention anything to me, and I was just with her.”
He pulled a hand down his face before pausing to smooth down his beard. “I did not see him among the dead, if that’s what you’re asking, but I have no idea where else he would be right now.”
“Well, he isn’t with Teia, and he isn’t with Lucanis, where he was supposed to be.”
She glanced over her shoulder just in time to see a pair of Crows carrying the mangled corpse of one of their fellows into the building. Viago sighed again and raked his fingers back through his hair.
“Dammit. One of Teia’s fledgelings.”
Lidia looked back at him, horrified. “I thought you told them not to come!”
“We did,” he answered, voice pained and eyes closed. “But you of all people should know that doesn’t stop them from wanting to prove themselves.”
He closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath, steeling himself to write another name on his list. After a moment of silence and a nod at the two Crows as they left the building, he sighed again and said, “Go home, Lidia. We’ve been sending the ones who can walk back to the Diamond for now to care for the ones who can’t.”
“Teia told me to help you.”
“And you can help me by going home,” Viago snapped. “And tell them to put a cart in the Crossroads. And station some people with it in case we need them to carry stretchers through the streets.”
She frowned, but gave a single nod of understanding before turning away. They were all Crows today. And she knew better than to question an order from a Talon.
She was welcomed by the warmth of Trevisan air once the cool, watery feeling of the eluvian faded. For just a moment, she closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, drinking in the flurry of scents that always filled the Cantori Diamond. The smells of spices, wine, and smoke wafted up from the casino floor, but the familiar chatter and laughter was replaced by eerie quiet, broken up only by the occasional groan or cry of pain.
Lidia’s eyes darted toward a flash of purple and she called out, stopping Chance in his tracks. He leaned back, peering at her curiously from around the corner, but smiled warmly as she approached.
“Lidia! You made it back.” He touched her shoulder gently before bowing with a flourish. “Welcome home, my lady.”
She returned the expression as best she could despite her headache and festering worry. “Thank you. The Fifth Talon would like a cart prepared in the Crossroads outside the Minrathous eluvian along with some strong, uninjured Crows who can carry bodies back on stretchers if need be.”
“It will be done. Any other requests?”
She glanced around, but saw no one else nearby. “I heard some of our wounded came through. Where are they now?”
“Using the card tables as extra beds,” he answered before frowning as he smoothed his moustache. “We’ve already lost three, and one more seems to be on his way out. The healers who stayed are all busy, and everyone else went to Minrathous. It’s… going to get better soon. I’m certain. Your arrival can only herald better tidings.”
Again, Lidia bit her tongue to keep herself from asking if the dead were known to her. Instead, she simply nodded to signal her understanding and left.
As she descended the many flights of stairs separating the rafters from the casino floor, her brow furrowed as her concern compounded on itself. Every step felt heavier as she ran over the names and faces of her favorite Crows in her mind. Lucanis, Teia, Viago, and Chance were safe. Jacobus stayed behind in Treviso after Lidia begged him to - their argument consisted of shouting and frustrated tears, but ended with several forehead kisses and a warm, loving hug once he finally agreed to stay. But the others? Heir, Dolores, Cazi, Valerian?
Illario?
She hated herself for worrying about him the most. He had not earned back that space in her head, and yet he’d stolen it again. He occupied her thoughts in various stages of injury, and images of him maimed or charred or exsanguinated flashed through her mind. With everything he put her through, everything he lied about, she knew she should be savoring the idea of him dead somewhere in Minrathous. But it haunted her, the thought of never seeing him again. It ached like a stone with sharp edges lodged in her chest.
I should’ve left Treviso entirely, she thought bitterly as she rounded the corner of the final stairwell.
The floor of the Diamond opened up before her, and she sighed at the state of it. About half of the card tables had wounded Crows perched on them - several with especially nasty-looking injuries - and a corner of the room was sectioned off with makeshift dividers. A few trails of blood - droplets, drag marks, or both - meandered off toward different tables. It would take days to get this place functional again.
Overlapping voices from various healers and patients filled the room. Most were voices she recognized, and she felt a wave of relief as they registered one by one. And as one of them filtered in, her head turned immediately toward the sound.
“I know, quite heroic,” said Illario with a soft groan. “Maybe someday the heroism will outweigh the stupidity.”
Lidia spotted him on a table, shirtless and wrapped in bandages, with his hair swept over one shoulder and a healer tending to his right side. He moved sluggishly and only when told, but his posture was still straight and his voice was still clear. He looked… decent.
She chided herself again for being so worried. Of course Illario was fine. Of course he made it with only minor injuries. Why wouldn’t he? He always had demonic luck. Why worry about him, Illario the traitor, Illario the liar, Illario the cheater, heartbreaker, manipulator–
“Lidia?”
She looked back at him at the sound of his voice, realizing her fingernails were starting to dig into her palms. She grabbed a stray coin off an empty card table and turned it over a few times in her hand as she made her way toward Illario.
He smiled at her approach, winced as he turned too far, and gave a slightly smaller and surprisingly sheepish grin when she reached his side. “Stay right there,” he said, holding out his unbandaged arm. “That’s always been my good side.”
Lidia rolled her eyes. “You couldn’t possibly say hello, or ask me how I am, or ask after Lucanis, could you? Do you even care?”
“I–” He hissed sharply and cursed as the healer pried something off his skin with a sticky sound. He leaned forward at the same time Lidia did, blocking her view of whatever was removed from him, and flashed another forced half-smile. “Of course I care, but I trust your delightful bluntness. I’m certain you would have told me the second you saw me if he was dead. I’m also certain you would look like you’ve been crying.”
She scowled and crossed her arms, angrily spinning the coin between her thumb and forefinger. “You’re a bastard.”
“I’m not, strictly speaking, but I never did get to know my father as well as I would have liked, so I’ll give you–” He cut himself off with another wince as the healer removed another piece from him. Once more, Lidia leaned forward to look, and once more, Illario intercepted her, this time by reaching for her arm.
“Don’t touch me,” she snapped, pulling away from him.
He let his hand fall back to the table. “If there’s one thing I can say about you, it’s that you never gave me mixed signals. I always know exactly where I stand. I love this about you - have I mentioned that?”
“You have. A pity I can’t say the same about you.”
Before he could respond, his head surged backwards and he let out a pained cry as the healer unwound one of the bandages on his arm.
“Apologies,” the healer muttered, “but now that the debriding is done, I need to replace these compresses and apply the rest.”
“Sure,” Illario groaned through his teeth. “You’re the expert.”
Lidia took her opportunity and shifted her stance to see the extent of his injuries. She couldn’t stifle a small gasp, which seemed to hurt him more than anything else.
A splotchy pink burn blossomed across most of his right forearm and about half his bicep, and it continued across the corresponding side of his torso. For the briefest of seconds, he turned his head to look at her fully, eyes wide and pleading, as he inadvertently revealed the connecting burn across the right side of his jawline and down his neck. The moment passed, and he lowered his face and sighed quietly.
Raw, red, sticky-looking flesh was visible in a few places, and as the healer set a small bowl on the table to free his hands, Lidia finally saw its contents: a small pile of dead, mottled tissue. How long had Illario been here, having his skin peeled off piece by blistered piece? Most of the burns looked deep enough to go past the pain, but in some places they were angry and crimson, shining as if wet.
The healer covered them one by one with bandages soaked in a healing solution as Illario tried to be still. “I told you that was my good side,” he muttered, his lips pressed into a thin line.
Lidia tucked the coin into her pocket and hoisted herself up onto the table beside him, legs kicking off the edge. “So… what happened?”
His eyes fell to the uninjured hand he had resting in his lap. “Magefire.” His voice sounded low, unenthusiastic - a far cry from the initial charm he laid on so thickly. “But this lovely gentleman here–” he motioned lightly toward the healer– “has assured me the wounds are not fatal. Just scarring. You’re crushed, I’m sure.”
Her headache throbbed dully, reminding her not to take his bait tonight. Instead, she said, “I’m just surprised you got hit at all. You’ve always been the luckiest bastard in Antiva.”
“Well, this time, I left Antiva.”
“Which you have done before, and you know what I meant anyway, idiot.”
He shrugged with his good arm, still refusing to meet her eyes. “Lucanis and I were cornered, and I stood in front of him. Foolish thing to do, I know. But I suppose I was trying to make up for something he would probably tell me not to worry about anyway. He was fine last time I saw him, if you’re concerned.”
“I’m not. Unless he tripped over something during his victory march, he’s alive and well…” She trailed off as she looked him over again. His right arm injured, mostly on the outside; his right side burnt while the left half of his body remained untouched; only the lower right corner of his jaw and cheek scorched… he shoved Lucanis behind him with his left arm and shielded his eyes with his right.
“Then I’m sure he’ll give me a stern talking-to for trying to protect him in the first place,” Illario said wearily, finally glancing up to her. “Who knows, maybe all I really achieved was making the First Talon look weak in front of the others.”
“Or making yourself look even more pathetic.”
“Which would just be impressive at this rate, no?” He breathed a soft, humorless laugh. “Illario Dellamorte, the Crow who lost all his dignity in record time. They’ll sing about my failures someday.”
As the healer left to attend to another patient, Lidia touched Illario’s leg, the weight of her hand pleasant and warm on his shin. “If nothing else, it was brave.”
He gave an indecisive tilt of his head. “It was also stupid.”
“More than one thing can be true.”
He gave a wan smile. “Lucanis probably would have been fine if he hadn’t been babysitting me in the first place.”
“Knowing him, he fought harder with you next to him.”
He studied her face, his eyes searching hers for a moment. “You’ve blood on you,” he said, nodding toward her hairline. “Your own?”
“I’m alright.”
“That’s not the answer to my question.”
She rolled her eyes. “It is mine, but I’m still alright.”
“Are you going to tell me what happened?”
“Venatori.”
When she did not continue, he deadpanned, “The picture you’ve painted so far is vivid.”
“Don’t vex me, Illario.”
“Am I not allowed to ask for details? To be concerned for you?”
She glared at him. “Now you’re concerned about me?”
“One concussion makes another more likely,” he reminded her in that insufferably knowing tone of his. “And I would hate for my hard work in facilitating your recovery from that first one to go to waste.”
“Yes, but whose fault was my first concussion?”
Indignantly, he flattened his hand against his chest. “I accept no responsibility for the actions of previous targets.”
“But said previous target would have been asleep if it wasn’t for you playing hero.”
“Must we always revisit that night?”
“You brought it up!” Her head ached as she raised her voice, and she massaged her tender scalp gently as she closed her eyes.
His teasing smirk faded to a soft frown, but he replaced it with a subtle smile before joking, “And here I had hoped you would be kinder to me now that you’ve seen the extent of my injuries.”
“Not a chance. My skin is still crawling from being this close to you,” she answered while making no attempt to move farther away.
He arched a brow smugly. “Well, I suppose, as you said, more than one thing can be true.”
“I am… glad… you made it,” she managed reluctantly. “I was looking for you among our dead.”
“Hoping to see me with my skull split, were you?”
Her hand slid up and his uninjured one met her halfway. They locked gently at his side. “You would deserve it, but… no. I was hoping I wouldn’t see your boots.”
“Oh? And I would have thought you’d only know me by my gloves.”
I would know any part of you, her mind brought forth. She blanketed the thought and tucked it away to be scolded later.
“I suppose I’ll be escorted back to the villa and left there to recover,” Illario mused aloud when she didn’t answer his quip. “I wonder if it’ll be too much to ask for Caterina to let me stay in my own room again. And I’m sure Viago will be just as thrilled as you are that I survived.”
“He’s busy. I’ll take you.”
He sighed fondly - if a touch sadly - and stroked her knuckles with the pad of his thumb. “Do you remember the last time you took my care upon yourself? I don’t suppose you’ll be making me pastina this time.”
Lucanis’ wake. She made a hot meal every day and shared it with Illario in silence as they sat in his bed and he stared into the fireplace. At the time, she had no way of knowing that his grief was doubled by guilt and only compounded by her kindness. She did not regret it, not even now, and that frustrated her more than anything else.
She hopped off the table and pulled lightly on his arm. “On your feet, Dellamorte. Come on.”
He swung his legs over the side of the table and winced. “Where are we going?”
“Home. I’m not letting you take up space in the Diamond when others may need it more.”
“I won’t argue with the promise of a more comfortable seat,” he responded with a grimace as he rose to his feet. Looking down at their hands, still entwined between them, he added, “Though we could stop for coffee on the way…”
“The owners of Café Pietra could be lying under rubble in Minrathous right now.”
“...So, no?”
“No.”
She pulled him out the Diamond’s front door and they started the long walk back to Villa Dellamorte. Out of habit, Illario walked at her side so she was safely between him and the buildings. She pretended not to notice, but heat rose in her cheeks all the same.
At a side street, she directed him to turn, and when he gave her that quizzical where are you taking me look, she explained, “We have to stop at the market.”
“For what?”
“Pastina, idiot,” she said pointedly, as if it should have been obvious.
He smiled and leaned against her, further entangling their arms. “I don’t deserve you, cara mia.”
She glared at him sideways. “No, you don’t. And don’t call me that. Lucanis would be cross with me if I let his brother starve, that’s all this is.”
Neither of them knew if that really was the extent of it. But for once, he neither questioned nor corrected her.
She held his hand the whole way home, and they sat in silence as they shared a bowl of pastina on his bed. For a night, that could be enough.

Can I get Fyodor,Nikolai,President,Dazai and Ranpo with Waking up them with kisses?
ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ ) ☆ .• ° ✧.+
a/n: writing about Dostoevsky and Fukutawa is been so damn hard 🥲
You're sitting on the soft bed of your shared apartment, looking at your adorable lover, who seemed so angelic and calm while asleep. to think he's such an ass when he's awake. regardless, even after uncountable complaints and advices by Kunikida, you agreed to date him. this self-destructive emotional drama queen who was now laying in an almost unconscious state -he looks dead when he sleeps-, is unexpectedly your whole world.
you lean in to give him a soft kiss on the forehead, moving away his bangs with your hand. ugh. he doesn't even move a little. you poke his cheeks a couple if times, but he doesn't react. well, now it's a mission. you start pampering kisses all over his face and the moment Dazai wakes up you see him staring up at you in obvious confusion.
"w... what?..."
you just look at him with a wide smile, and the second after he's wrapping his arms around your neck and pulling you down on top of him, leaving kisses on your neck and lips.
"what a beautiful good morning, Bella!~"
you walk in the bedroom holding a bag of sweets, expecting him to be awake at 10 in the morning, but... of course you were wrong. knowing him, trying to wake him up with normal methods is useless. fortunately, you always know what to do! you knee on the bed next to him and lean in dramatically to kiss him as if he was the Sleeping Beauty and you were the prince, to which he narrows his eyes open just enough to see you. he smiles and closes his eyes again, declaring:
"hu-huh, I want more!"
and so you get pulled on the bed by a childish, clingy, just-woke-up version of your lovely Ranpo.
after a while of cuddling you hear him whispering "you don't think I didn't see the bag from the candy shop."
Nikolai is a... unpredictable man. it's not easy to understand what he's going to so, and sometimes you wonder if even he knows what he's doing. so today, seeing him asleep on your shared bed (it's a rare sight because usually he wakes up before you), you can't help but wonder what his reaction would be if you woke him up with kisses. as you start thinking about it, you can't fight the urge to try, and so you fastly leave a kiss on his lips and pull away. apparently he's a lighter sleeper than you thought, because he instantly open one eye to look at you with a smirk.
"oh? my darling is trying to be romantic?"
you pout slightly at the teasing, turning your head away. "I'm always very romantic, Nik."
he laughts and sit up straight on the bed and caresses your cheek.
"my love, good morning."
"good morning."
you knock at his office -well, calling it an office isn't really accurate, but how to call a dark, messy room dedicated to computers?- but there's no response. so you open the door, the light from outside fastly filling the room and showing a floor entirely covered by clothes and packs. yeah. he basically lives there. you see him sitting on his chair in front of a pc and you tap his shoulder, but he doesn't react.
"oh, so he finally fell asleep..."
and suddenly a thought pops out in your mind: what if this cold, heartless man was woken up by his assistant's kisess? sure, it was a dare, but after all what isn't with him? yeah, you feel like a daredevil today! you lean in to kiss his cheek, and the exact moment your lips touch his skin he opens his eyes, just to discover his assistant was braver than he thought.
"oh? what was that, my dear?"
you feel your cheeks heating up and try to act nonchalant despite being suddenly so nervous about what his reaction could be "a-ah, nothing! I was just... giving you a good morning kiss...?"
the room falls silent for a few minutes, in wich his eyes never leave yours, then he says
"ah. I might want another."
You step in the president's office at the ada to give him some papers, but you find him alseep on his chair, a cat on his lap. you smile softly to yourself, he must be extremely tired if he fell asleep like that. "hm, I almost don't want to wake him up..." you think, but then the ✨intrusive thoughts✨ win. you walk next to his chair and lean in, kissing him on the forehead. he slowly open his eyes, and at firt he doesn't realize what's happening, then he sees you and his face suddenly becomes a dark red. he fastly sits up on the chair, the cat that was on his lap jumping off and running away. he clears his throat, taking his head in his hands.
"ehm... I... I was just relaxing my eyes...."
you chucke and leave the papers on his desk "yes, sure, president."
"don't tell anyone about this.."
"your secrets are sure with me."

The Silco saga, Part 3: The Eye
*This is the third (well, actually fourth) post in a series I’ve lovingly dubbed “The Silco Saga, a retrospective after Season 2”. It’s halfway between flow of conscience, meta, headcanon and review, spawned from my Arcane brainrot (and recent S1 rewatch) and vaguely aimed at trying to reevaluate the entirety of Arcane with a focus on my Main Man™ Silco. Here is Part 1 (on how S2 handled Silco and Jinx’s relationship), Part 1.5 (miscellaneous thoughts regarding timeline issues and Silco’s actions towards the kids in S1ep3), and Part 2 (Vander and a bit of Zaundads, yaaay).
Please feel free to comment! I love hearing different perspectives on this show.
----------------------------
This will be a short one, but I need to get it out of my system. I just... love, love, love Arcane's use of visual language (and specifically character and environment design) to wordlessly communicate story beats. The whole show is just a perfect synergy of writing and artistic talent, where both contribute to craft a deeply layered and meaningful story.
Silco's eye is such a perfect example of this. To use the eye as a symbol of his corruption post-drowning is such a genius intuition, because it's symbolism is so immediately understandable yet also layered with meaning that is incredibly specific to his character.
There are plenty of characters in popular media where facial disfigurement is used to convey duality and corruption (the most obvious example being DC's Two-Face), and Silco could have easily gone down this well-traveled path of character design. However, by focusing on the corrupted eye in particular, this element instantly specifies the meaning of his mutilation.
Vander's violence didn't just impact him phisically. His scars don't serve just as a constant reminder of the ways in which he (and the world, since the Pilt's toxic waters are an effect of Piltover's exploitation of the Undercity) wronged him. The violence inflicted upon him distorted his vision of the world, metaphorically and literally. He is forced (first by Vander, and later by himself) to view the world through a monstrous filter.
I wonder whether him having to constantly inject Shimmer into his eye is meant to symbolize - or rather mirror - the coping mechanism he uses to deal with his trauma. Silco is shown constantly revisiting The Drowning™ as a crucial moment in his development as a person, and while in his personal narrative he reframes it as a positive and cathartic experience, we are aware, through his flashbacks, that the moment was anything but. Him needing to constantly inject Shimmer into his eye is the physical equivalent to the psycological ritual of "healing" he performs by reframing his trauma as a moment of self-improvement (and literally dunking himself in the Pilt, Silco you madman).
It's only logical, then, that the injections don't seem to work long-term. It perfectly mirrors his psychological state: as the story goes on, we see how his narrative of death and rebirth is just a superficial fix, a solution which could perhaps be sustainable for him alone, but inevitably crumbles as soon as he attempts to apply it to another person (Jinx). Jinx's tragic arc in S1 reveals the fault in his vision: there is no healing to be found in rewriting your past by cramming it into a narrative that suits your feelings and "killing" (denying, hiding, repressing) the bits that you don't like - or that are too painful for you to face.
It's deeply symbolic, then, that he still keeps his scars in the Best Timeline™ of S2ep7, but there's no sign of infection or (what I assume is) Shimmer corruption: the wounds are still there because the past can't be changed, but he is shown to have been able to shape it into something stable, manageable. It's what healing actually looks like: it's neither a return to an umblemished state, nor a rebirth into something completely new, but rather an integration of the past and present self into a whole that is not just the sum (or, in his case, a subtraction) of its parts.
#silco#meta#heather's ramblings#there's something to be said about the Silco-Viktor parallels and how their disabilities impact their worldview#but these thoughts are only half-cooked in my brain so i'll leave them to marinate a little bit longer before I write anything#arcane#arcane season 2#silco my beloved my blorbo my n.1 bozo#god he's so messed up#i wanted to write something that went beyond the usual “something something the eyes are a window to the soul”#i hope it's understandable#on a related note: The Babadook remains the best piece of media ever to properly portray how to heal and move on from past trauma#and now I'm mentally picturing Silco & Vander lovingly feeding earthworms to their inner “monsters” in the Best TimelineTM#character analysis#silco arcane

hello :] !! i read ‘who holds the devil’ last month, it came to me when i was having a hard time in my life; when i was in a desperate need to forget everything around and ahead of me…your story did JUST THAT i was so utterly mesmerized and invested in your incredible storytelling and the absolute justice you did to complicated characters such as our yohan and gaon. i’ve read your snippets of yohan’s povs too and i really hope you write them more in the future, it’s so interesting to see his brain work and just how different his understanding of their relationship is…
i haven’t been able to stop thinking about your fic and i’ve already re read it countless times (like i kid you not i wake up every day and check if you’ve updated i’m that down bad) i just wanted to thank you for creating such a masterpiece, you’re a blessing and i hope you’re doing well 🫶🏻 i’m eagerly waiting to see what gaon and yohan has in store for them !!🫶🏻
I'm so sorry to hear that you were having a hard time, but I'm glad that my fic was able to offer you some comfort, at least. Sometimes, it really does help to have something else to focus on when things are rough. I hope things are better now, at least 💜
One of the main reasons why I even started writing this fic was because I realised that I wanted their story to continue but also that I had such a specific idea of how I wanted it to play out — and how I wanted the characters to behave — that the only way for me to get that was to write it myself. And I just love the characters so much that I couldn't help wanting to explore them and their story further, with as much detail and accuracy as possible. We were left with so many possibilities after the end of the drama! And so much trauma to unpack and heal from! I had to see how that would play out ;)
I'm glad you like Yo Han's POV 💜 Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much of his POV I'll write for that particular story since showing his thoughts kind of ruins the suspense of it all. Like, a part of the mystery is that Ga On doesn't know what Yo Han is thinking and, by extension, neither does the reader. Yo Han isn't supposed to be an easy man to read. Also, while Yo Han's POV is a lot of fun for me to write, it also makes me nervous. Because he's a lot of people's favourite character and my interpretation of what his thoughts and actions are like might not align with their ideas. Which is totally fine! We can all have different opinions. But some people can get pretty heated if he's not written in a way they approve of, or if he's portrayed in a way they don't think is flattering enough. So it's just less drama for me if I don't write Yo Han's POV too often xD
But I agree that it's very interesting! He does view their relationship quite differently and, just like Ga On, he has a lot of struggles and things he's feeling insecure about (especially right now considering everything that's happened). His doubts are just not as apparent since we don't see his thoughts. But trust me when I say that he has a lot of thoughts.
I almost feel like I should apologise. I swear I'm not trying to make you all so addicted to this fic, it just seems to happen x'D But I am of course delighted to hear that you're enjoying it! And I'm very grateful that you took the time to tell me. It means a lot 💜
I'm not doing the best, unfortunately, but I'm hanging in there. And I'm hoping to be able to write some on chapter 42 this coming weekend, in between all the household chores I have to get done. We'll see how it goes!
Please take care and thank you so much for the lovely compliments! 💜
#Amethystina Replies#jyrkive#To be entirely honest#I'm frustrated by how much I want to write#But can't seem to do it#I am DYING to get further in this story#But I've been struggling a lot with fevers and exhaustion lately#And I just can't write as well in that state#But here's to hoping that this weekend will be better#Or maybe I'll just force myself to write regardless#Because there's so much good stuff coming up

-a bit Manga Spoiler ahead-
The more I think about it the more I just don't know what to feel about doing Miharu's arc before doing an extended hand story ><
tbh I feared them doing that and was talking about this with a friend before the Miharu's arc preview even dropped but since they did a pretty good job so far this season unlike the past two, I wanted to have faith ...
maybe it's fine to do it after which would result in different reaction yet reach the same end plus it's up to oneself to decide how to perceive something ...
personally speaking, I don't want Miharu's arc before the extended hand story ... for me it won't hit the same ...
don't get me wrong ... be it I saw it before or after I know Miharu's arc will always be special to me ...
but you know, being "special" hold different kind of meaning ... the Miharu's arc being "special" without an extended hand prior knowledge will be different than it being "special" with that knowledge beforehand .... it won't be same for me ... the experience will be different .. the reaction will be different ... I don't know if I make any sense but don't know how to explain it well enough ><
I'm not only talking about how Seiji's reaction is different in both stories when Natori offered him help .. nor am I talking about how their relationship in it was pretty positive by its end ...
it's something more than just those ...
a glimpse at Seiji's family burden
Seiji's sad wish of wanting a Shiki
Natori trying to understand him
it's those little details, those unspoken things that change your view of characters and character's reaction in stories ...
that's why when you read/watch Miharu's arc with this knowledge it makes it so different ... everything is just so different since Miharu's arc expand on those same ideas while adding more .. this same burden .. this same sad wish .. this same delicate and complicated relationship between Seiji and Natori ...
Miharu's arc something too special for me, that it felt unreal to have sometimes ... but I don't think it would've been so without an extended hand story ..
as I said it would've been still special even without it but wouldn't be the same kind of special :)
also, I guess the questions and mystery would've been different in a way too by the end of it or throughout the story ...
I know cuz what I asked about and was killing myself to know throughout Miharu's arc was questions I wouldn't have asked nor considered if I didn't know an extended hand beforehand ^^
anyway, in the end since the anime team decided to change the order of events, I hope Manga reader don't ruin anything for anime-only or spoil an extended hand for them for the sake of Miharu's arc (surely the anime will adapt it) or make them feel they're missing something out if they didn't ask for it themselves ...
let them live and enjoy their own type of experience and memories while we watch over them silently ^^
I'm only sharing my view and emotions regarding the matter since I can't deny I'm a bit sad since I wanted my friend to live through the same experience as close as possible but oh well ...
#natsume yuujinchou#natsuyuu#matoba seiji#natori shuuichi#I've been thinking about this the whole week so wanted to let it out ><#I guess asking for an extended hand this season was too much ...#I wonder what type of reaction those anime-only will have after Miharu's arc ?#what will they think and feel ? I'm curious ...#yet at the same time I'm thankful to be a manga reader ...#because it gave me such a dear and special memory ...#the manga overall is just had something the anime no matter what they can't capture well enough ...#I wonder why sometimes ?#oh I'll stop here I start getting tired ....#actually I wanted to write all of that in better and clear form ...#yet I guess I'm not in the best state to do that which might result in me talking nonsense ....#even my mind lag in english .....#ugh ....

boy in silly sitting positions compilation
#cats#I especially like the last one where he just has one single paw poking out of that box for some reason lol#I still have costumes to post and like a billion other things.... grr... constantly failing at staying active on social media aughh#I think because currently my Main Focus is on trying to get my game done and stuff.. which basically just means sitting and writing all day#so there's not much to post about. Though I know the Good At Social Media thing to do would be to post about the#writing and share progress and talk about the game and characters or whatever to try to build interest or something but that is SOOO weird#to me.. I could maybe get it if it was like a tiny tiny discord groupchat of playtesters with like 5 people in#it.. But something about talking openly about things before they happen is weird to me?? Like presumptuous feeling or something#''oooo guess whats gonna happen LATER!!!'' like.. how do you know.. what if it doesnt. what if you dont finish it. what if its not the way#you think it's going to be. what if something changes. etc. Like I literally avoid movie trailers and game trailers for the same reason ghj#Even if it's not ME doing it it just feels... weird.. Maybe it has to do with my OCD and how I just don't like talking about ''future''#things in Certain Terms. Like if I was going to say ''Oh yeah sure. come over to my house in a few months''. I would have to follow it up#with like ''HOPEFULLY you can come over to my house in a few months'' or 'They'll come over in a few months MOST LIKELY''. Because just#stating that something will happen matter of factly takes for granted like.. what if somehting horrible happens and I DONT have a house#in a few months? or what if something bad happens to me. or to the person coming over? I can't ever DEFINITELY say with 100% certainty#that one could ACTUALLY come to my house in a few months. anything could change. So I have to allot for that in my phrasing. hbjjkn#There are a lot of situations where you're expected to just Assume Things but for some reason that bothers me. My brain literally does not#even Assume the most basic things.. like how do *I* know that just because it's someones birthday that they want to be wished a happy#birthday? what if they dont? everyone is different and has different preferences. I should check with them first. or wait until they public#ly announce that theyre accepting birthday wishes. I have to allot for all 5034859069 rare possibilities at any given time and never take#anything for certain. etc. ghjbjhbh.... ANYWAY.. I have been feeling a bit sick lately as usual.. but still slowly making progress on some#things. Moslty I need to edit costume photos. make sculptures. and work on the game. Going back reading some of the old writing from like#2018 and suprisingly I don't have to change that much of it? In fact I like it mostly. so that's good. I would be very interested if I were#playing the game myself. Though that doesnt mean much since my tastes are so niche lol..#Still really want to clear some of my million tumblr drafts as well... alas and aughh and ooughh and so on and so forth. Between all of my#evil appointments other such things...why cant I have one billion dollar to retire into relaxed hermit artist life of no stressors.. bleas

Had the extremely upsetting experience of a mutual of like 6 years going off on me for occasionally making posts about supporting Harris because apparently that makes me a g n cide denier who refuses to learn and grow, with all of my views just being assumed not even from what I've told them I believe or what I've posted before, but just because I DON'T post particularly the kind of things they THINK I should be. When I pointed out how much they were just completely assuming about stuff I'd never talked to them about, I was told it doesn't matter what I do in real life or "care" about if I simply disagree with their conclusion and vote for her anyway. Like they were absolutely not sorry for the level of maliciousness they not just assumed of my character, but for some reason thought appropriate to bring directly to me before unfollowing me. No apology whatsoever for how discomforting or upsetting that might be and certainly no acknowledgment that I could disagree with them and still be a good person. I just got another even longer rant about how they fundamentally can't fuck with me because of this one thing, no matter WHAT else I do in my real life (which I pointed out that they do not know), and how I'm directly supporting fascism.
Like seriously what is it about Tumblr that makes people think they know someone based off of occasional posts? There were just such DEEP assumptions they were making of me and going off of very little or absolutely nothing. Around the time I first became mutuals with that person I used to express my personality and beliefs and talk about what was going on in my life a lot more openly, but I've significantly scaled back on doing that in many ways for many reasons. One of my major ones is privacy and the way I've had strangers outside my followers and following circles just find random things I say and dogpile me for it. I was fundamentally changed after some T Fs did that to me like 3 years ago. I also just didn't have many conversations w that person anymore (I message people in general on here like 10x less than I did circa 2018-2019, which I'm somewhat sorry about!). My point is to say I think this person felt comfortable assuming that they knew me, especially who I am in 2024 at the age of 25, much better than they actually did.
One of the specific things they accused me of was being afraid of learning and growing (because I don't perform social media activism on here like they think I should). Like AFRAID to take criticism. When again I've never received criticism from them or had to respond to any criticism on here before as pertaining to my views on... well, absolutely any of the issues they accused me of not caring about. They essentially treated it as if the only thing in the world I cared about was the US election and characterized me as the most out-of-touch liberal they could possibly imagine, because I'm not "pushing" Kamala Harris to be better (Oh?? Should I do that on here?? Does she read my blog??).
And most hypocritically what they said was that I only *sometimes* *vaguely* post pro-Harris things (I often post like 5 or fewer things in a day though?). But here's the kicker. "Because I know I'll get shit for it. And rightfully so."
Really????? Not a single person, anon or not, in my messages or in a tagged post or anything, has ever given me shit before for saying who I'm voting for. I'm actually NOT afraid of "getting shit" for that opinion, I just don't start fights with people who are anti-voting. And why should I??? I genuinely don't believe in trying to change the minds of strangers on the internet about that sort of thing. I'm just not confrontational about it; that is so not the same thing as being "afraid of getting shit." I'm not posting ENOUGH about my support for Harris, therefore I'm afraid. But therefore they can also make all these assumptions about me being their strawman for an ignorant Harris supporter.
I'm afraid of getting shit but I still post anyway? But if I weren't afraid of getting shit I'd be posting a lot more?? This is ALL based on their assumptions of what my blog *should* look like, based on what I really and truly believe. My level of posting every now and then is an accurate gauge of my feelings on complex, sensitive, global issues. Because I'm voting for the Democratic presidential candidate and I'm ok sharing pretty much just that little glimpse of myself.
I really don't think that person knows just how inappropriate and insulting that is to just say all of that to me. Like they really know what's going on in my head. Their first message began and ended with like "I'm sorry I love you I just can't take it anymore" but they clearly weren't sorry enough to try and be more respectful to me, and they didn't love me enough not to default to extremely ungenerous assumptions and attacking me based off of those instead of any actual words I've said that they take issue with.
Online radicalization is real and it's not necessarily bad because your political views can start to fall well out of the contemporary Overton window. The way you find it appropriate to treat people whose views, however common, seem to fundamentally misalign with yours... that does matter. You can't just assume the worst of everyone and then act on that in how you approach them as individuals. And then be shocked that you don't stay friends with them. You can't be confrontational with someone about an issue you've never had an honest conversation about, and then expect them to take your bad faith in them as reasonable well-meaning criticism.
I'm afraid of criticism??? I'm afraid of criticism. No I'm not. This person and I have never had an issue before where they criticized me and I got harshly defensive. It was ALL projection. The entire tone of their messages was as if all their anti-voting posts recently were somehow in communication with the occasional go-vote-for-Harris posts that I make. That's not a conversation. I don't post for your satisfaction. I don't post in "response" to my mutuals I disagree with. I just post what's on my mind, sometimes, about some things. I really again can't stress enough how baffled I am by this
#tales from diana#long post#this is not really a post about voting this is a post about online etiquette#i also remember that this person at one point when we were teenagers had a crush on me#so they might have somewhat idealized me or maybe just had respect for the good times#good conversations we had over the years etc#i still held them in regard even though some of their anti-voting posts i took serious issue w#again i really don't care to argue w ppl against voting bc really i mainly only disagree w that one conclusion#the systemic critiques that were made in those posts i don't think make them bad ppl#i sympathize w why someone might think that way#i just cannot pretend that i think nothing changes if we have dt as president again#i can't act as if im not anxious at the state of the world we're in where we're seriously at risk of that#i don't have that same level of concern about harris. i don't. i don't think theyre the same#i think they diverge in so many meaningful ways but im usually not writing detailed long thoughtful posts about it#do i have to??? for TUMBLR?? id rather not...#but i don't wish to be confronted as if these are nuances i MUST not hold in my opinion#can't stress enough they were basically calling me a g n cide denier like that's just a cool ok thing to do#i have literally never made a post about ppl not voting for harris bc of the war in gaza#i specifically haven't not because im 'afraid' but bc i don't believe in comparing those 2 things#there was gonna be a presidential election this year anyway and there does not have to be this war#if u think dems aren't doing well enough on the war for u to vote for them. i can't argue w u#but i was always going to vote anyway#again im afraid of getting shit?? ONLY this person has EVER given me shit until now#im not pushing harris enough? how tf do u know that? bc im not reblogging ill-informed posts from ppl like u?#im not PUSHING this woman running for president enough bc im not writing critical posts she and her advisers will never see#about how im threatening to withhold my vote from them. something id never honestly do considering the opposition#they kept stressing to me to about how they weren't a trump supporter when *i* never said as much to them#i do agree that not voting for harris 'supports' trump in that it benefits him overall#but i don't attack ppl who just aren't voting in that way. ok?#damn i hate being on the defensive like this

... it's just hit me that lister describes the bathroom kiss as assault and even when jimmy reassures him that he doesn't see it that way and doesn't have a problem with it, lister refuses to accept that it was anything other than objectively assault
while two days earlier jimmy insisted that a 32-yr-old having sex with lister at age 16 was wrong, despite lister not seeing it that way and not having a problem with it
does that mean that lister took that conversation on board but only as far as "the person on the receiving end of an advance can't accurately assess whether or not it was wrong" and is now equating himself to the woman that took advantage of him . because i will weep
#i am conflicted about the bathroom kiss to an extent#because on the one hand . do not kiss someone without asking dude wtf#but also . the difference in jimmy's response to it compared to the magnet situation which is? relatively similar#w magnet he was 'this is fine'ing his whole way through it and forcing himself to be ok with it and would've likely kept going if—#— lister hadn't interrupted it#whereas in the bathroom he is in an objectively worse mental state & more consistently dissociative despite being sober . yet he actively—#— considers it and almost goes along with it before deciding for Both his and lister's sakes not to#and i think his clarity & consideration there as well as the fact he felt Safe to pull away is meaningful to an extent#because it's one of the only situations this week where he's actually felt & acted on a sense of control over what happens to him#+ lister's immediate reaction being to back off and recognise his being at fault and never once holding it against jimmy#like again . should not have happened do not kiss ppl without asking#but i do find myself viewing it in a very different light to the v comparable magnet situation#anygay i am rambling in tags again when i should be asleep but still#i worry that lister is now viewing himself in the same light as jimmy views the ppl that took advantage of lister#but i Also worry that he is viewing himself as Worse than those ppl bc he can't/won't accept that he was taken advantage of#i do also now kind of want to write a Lister In Therapy oneshot partly just for the catharsis of imagining that boy getting some gd therapy#iwbftreread
