Yes I certainly do believe that there are Autistic Amish people. I have came across some opinions online that state that there are no Autistic Amish people. It may be harder to find Autistic people amongst the Amish population and that may cause some people to form that opinion.

It would be unlikely for an Amish person to receive an Autism diagnosis because the Amish population don't have as much contact with medical practitioners as other people do.

The Amish don't have access to the internet and have very limited contact with the outside world. They might not know what Autism is and that it exists. For many years before the word Autism was discovered there were many Autistic people. Only in the last century they have started using a name for it. They might recognise that some people in the community are a bit different but never have given these people a label.

Some Autistic People may thrive in the Amish lifestyle. I believe that there would be alot of structure and routine involved in their day to day lives which would be good for many Autistic people as things would be predictable for them which eases anxiety. As the Autistic person thrives and is comfortable living amongst the Amish there would be less chance for them to need support. The Autistic person might not be recognised as Autistic because they blend right in.

An Amish person's first language is Pennsylvania Dutch where as the average Americans first language is English. This may mean that a non-Amish American may ask an Amish person if there are any Autistic people in their community and the Amish person may have trouble understanding as English is their second language and the language barrier may have an effect on statistics.

I believe Autism is genetic and I think that maybe there is a lower percentage of Autistic people in the Amish Community then there is amongst the general population because the Amish have a limited gene pool hence forth it is likely for a person with the Autistic gene to be part of the gene pool.

I believe that all these reasons may be why it may seem to some people that there are no Autistic Amish people but I believe there is.

^^ good addition!! but it made me wanna explain my thought process a little (nonsense rambling at idk 11am-ish incoming): realistically, yes! this is all true (to my understanding) and part of what i had in mind. my intention w this one was to have a series of little comedic social hiccups and misunderstandings, and i didn't want to make goromi's transness one of them (and especially given the "you really know how to pick em" line/vibes of nishiki's whole perspective here, i wanted that to be focused on her also being yakuza rather than her being trans/gnc and thought having him bring it up could read as gross). i thought it'd be nice to have a situation where it's pretty implied that a character is trans and where characters don't bat an eye (trans ppl have enough dating anxiety, y'know?), and particularly for such a short and comedy-centric thing i didn't wanna get into explanations/explorations of that. but yes, nishiki eyebrow raise.png like oh THATS why this hasn't been working (either in that his type is gnc scary yakuza women or fully just men depending on whether you read goromi as A Woman For Real or a drag persona). (it's also why she thinks of sagawa and says no initially, because she thinks she's been found out/fears this could get back to him). but i mean we know kiryu's always had trouble relating to/relaxing around women and that goromi is easier (as stated in the game's encounter itself). it could be that within the encounter it's more about their prior relationship, but here maybe goromi being evidently yakuza kinda helps bridge that gap a little by giving them some things in common, especially BECAUSE the yakuza's such a hypermasculine environment that his exposure to women is relatively limited. anyway a lotta this was supposed to be subtextual in my brain, but i get that it mighta been TOO subtextual to come across right. so basically yeah you and me are sharing brainwaves (omg!! same wavelength!!!) i just didn't make that clear lol

Just realized I have never once talked about my hobbies. Well, my blog, my rules. Welcome to the shitshow.

1. Scented candles

My nose is somehow the most autistic part of my body, so since I can’t smell flowers, I am very, very picky about what candles I get. The majority of them are crème brûlée, the actual best scent ever. Like. Imagine if love had a smell and it gave you a hug. That’s what crème brûlée candles smell like. There’s also dirty hot chocolate and cinnamon, and one s’mores candle I got from Hershey. Now if only I could figure out how to use that lighter…

2. Spoons

My mother loves to travel, and I don’t. So, as compensation, I started collecting state-themed spoons, usually from gas stations (I’m looking at you, Love’s). My collection became…quite extensive. Got most of the 50 states.

3. Porcelain and glassware

Something about good porcelain makes the creature in my brain go “Oooooooh grabby grabby grabby!”. You wouldn’t believe how many gorgeous pieces are found in antique shops. I once found a teacup set made in Japan at a random shop in an Iowan Amish town. Lucky for me, my great-grandmother had the same brain creature, so I essentially laid claim to the stash. They’re prettyyyyyyy.

4. Dress shopping

Not just regular shopping. Dress shopping. Dresses must be involved. My standards for dresses are sky-high, so if you ever spot me walking into Belk laughing like a maniac, expect the dress sections to be raided. I went in with a gift card last week and walked out with one dress. Yes, it was amazing.

5. Photo editing

I’ve played around in Photos so much you might as well call me an expert. Oh, wait, I got a certification from Adobe for Photoshop. Huh. Guess you can call me an expert. Yeah. Still proud of myself for that one.

6. Mineralogy (former)

Before I fell into the world of fandom, I was a mineralogy nerd. Not much else to say about it…I had a hard time even pronouncing it for a long time.

7. Video games

I haven’t had a console since my cousin’s shitty hand-me-down Wii, but I never forgot. There were exactly three games I played on that thing, and they live on in my memory, even though I never finished them. So long, Paper Mario, Epic Mickey, and Sonic and the Secret Rings. You placed my long-dormant Sonic autism inside me.

I could get into my tragic backstory involving theater and a certain play called “Heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flames”, but that wouldn’t fit here.

When he's unmedicated Jamil is that one meme of Shinji his stress levels are high. He's practically lived with Kalim so he knows he can get hyper although he pushes through it being used to it.

I headcanon Kalim has sensory issues that mainly have to do with touch. (Mine are sound and taste :skull:)

Since he likes parties and is extremely sociable I feel like sometimes he can get overwhelmed he chills in his sensory swing. I also feel like since he plays the drums he does have backup headphones on hand in case it's too loud.

As biologist (1 have 2 biology degrees and a biotech certificate), I am completely and utterly appalled by the recent resurgence of the false belief that vaccines cause autism. He's the 5 most common arguments I've heard, and how I counter them:

"Well if vaccines are so safe, then why do you run so many studies on them before releasing them?" Have you ever worked at a drug manufacturing company? Clinical trial-based studies are an FDA&mandated policy for new drugs and vaccines.

2. "This study was funded by a pharmaceutical company! They're paying you to say what they want to hear!" Studies are very expensive, idiot.

3. "Autism diagnoses have been on the rise for the past 40 years! Something must be responsible, and until you can provide undeniable proof, vaccines might as well be the cause!" Well, wildfires have been on the rise for the past several decades, too, and I'm pretty sure that lava monsters aren't the cause even though I don't have undeniable proof of that.

4. "The thimerasol and aluminum in vaccines are responsible for autism!" First of all, thimerasol has been absent for all vaccines recommended for infants and children ever since 2002, back when it was removed to shut you idiots up. Second, the aluminum present in vaccines is miniscule (less than a microgram per dose), so it won't cause problems.

5. "The Amish and other cultures that don't use vaccines have a much lower autism diagnosis rate!" That's because they either don't use modern medical testing procedures, or don't have the resources necessary for a nationwide diagnosis program.

Sorry if this was too long, but hearing people say such stupid things about something related to a subject that I've spent 1/3rd of my life studying really gets me angry.

Things I like:

Birds. I would consider them my "special interest." I have been obsessed with them for years and years. I have chickens, muscovies, and pigeons. I show pigeons. My favorite birds are large ground birds like peacocks and pheasants, also pigeons. Also i like birds with cool feet, like coots and sula nebouxii.

Art. I love drawing, painting, making perlers, writing, sewing, and crafting. I do not like crotchet and knitting is okay. I use my art to express my emotions and tell about who I am.

Fallout. Its a cool game, it has music I like and gameplay is fun. I love writing stories, drawing and making ocs with my friends about the fandom.

Animals. I love all animals, not just birds. I especially like bugs and fish. Some of my favorite non-avian animals include gar, trout, crickets, millipedes, hyenas, snow leopards, snakes, isopods, catfish, flounder and halibut, gharials, sharks, and eels. I also like prehistoric animals. My favorite is marrella splendens

Geography and Cultures. I love maps and flags. I also collect flags and can stare at maps forever. I memorized all the country flags. I also love countryballs. I also love learning about different cultures. If you want something to talk to me about, tell me a food unique to your culture! Im from amish country so I have some pretty cool ones. Also learning about different religions is cool too! Personally, im a christian (the nice kind who actually loves thy neighbor) but I find the differences and similarities in religions fascinating.

My friends. My best friend is @irenecatz. We met back in like 2022 in December. We have been friends ever since. We got to meet each other irl in the summer of 2024. That was the best day of my life. She means so much to me, and without her I may not even be around anymore.

A conspiracy-filled rant by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. that the Covid-19 virus was engineered to spare Ashkenazi Jews and Chinese people has stirred accusations of antisemitism and racism in the Democratic candidate’s long-shot run for president.

“Covid-19. There is an argument that it is ethnically targeted. Covid-19 attacks certain races disproportionately,” Mr. Kennedy said at a private gathering in New York that was captured on videotape by The New York Post. “Covid-19 is targeted to attack Caucasians and Black people. The people who are most immune are Ashkenazi Jews and Chinese.”

Mr. Kennedy has made his political career on false conspiracy theories about not just Covid-19 and Covid vaccines but disproved links between common childhood vaccines and autism, mass surveillance and 5G cellular phone technology, ill health effects from Wi-Fi and a “stolen” election in 2004 that gave the presidency back to George W. Bush.

But his suggestion that the coronavirus pandemic spared Chinese people and Jews of European descent strayed into new and bigoted territory.

Asian Americans suffered through a brutal spate of assaults at the beginning of the Covid pandemic by people who blamed the Chinese for intentionally releasing the virus on the world. And Mr. Kennedy’s remarks about Ashkenazi Jews hit antisemitic tropes on multiple levels.

Ashkenazi Jews generally descend from those who settled in Eastern Europe after the Roman Empire destroyed the Jewish state around 70 A.D. Sephardic Jews went to the Middle East, North Africa and Spain.

The idea that Ashkenazi Jews are somehow separate from Caucasians has fueled deadly bigotry for centuries, and the conspiracy of Jewish immunity from tragedy has been part of antisemitic attacks as far back as the Black Plague and as recently as the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Abraham Foxman, who worked for decades as the head of the Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish civil rights organization, condemned “antisemitic stereotypes going back to the Middle Ages that claimed Jews protected themselves from diseases.”

“It cannot be ignorance because he is not ignorant, so he must believe it,” Mr. Foxman said Saturday night.

Mr. Kennedy responded to The New York Post story with a defense that only deepened his conspiratorial theories. He wrote on Twitter that he “accurately pointed out” that the United States is “developing ethnically targeted bioweapons” — a point he made in his remarks captured on video, when he repeated Russian propaganda that the United States is collecting D.N.A. in Ukraine to target Russians with tailored bioweapons.

Mr. Kennedy also linked to a scientific paper that he said showed the structure of the Covid-19 virus made Black and Caucasian people more susceptible, and “ethnic Chinese, Finns and Ashkenazi Jews” were less receptive.

But the study he linked to, published in July 2020, early in the pandemic and before effective treatments had emerged, made no reference to Chinese people as more receptive to the virus, nor did it speak of targeting the virus. It said one particular receptor for the virus appeared not to be present in Amish and Ashkenazi Jews.

His conclusions were roundly dismissed by scientists.
