Honestly, I think Lockup's titular episode of the Animated Series is really depressing...
Because in it, we see DCAU!Batman fighting Modern!Batman.
Thankfully, even modern Batman doesn't always go for that nonsense. There are still plenty of moments in comics where Bruce shows the compassionate side of himself. It's just easier for casual readers to miss because Batdickery is memorable.

What do you think of the idea that superhero stories can’t tackle real-life topics because of how, in the real world, people would be more focused on regulating them or how they seemingly don’t fix systemic and global issues? That there’s a certain limit to amount of thought you put into these stories? And that superheroes are inherently fascist? (The showrunner for The Boys said superheroes are “basically MAGA.”) Basically, it’s an echo of Alan Moore’s ideas.
Answered that last one a couple years ago. And frankly, anyone who says "Superhero stories can't take on real-life topics" have either not read enough superhero comics or just lack imagination.

I don’t know why that affected me so strongly, but I’m watching a youtube video on disasters on Lake Huron, and the first one involves a coal freighter that was lost in the White Hurricane of 1913 called the SS Argus. Everyone on the ship was lost. But it’s mentioned that the captain’s body washed up later, and was found without a life jacket. So they thought, based partly on testimony of another ship that thought they saw them go down, that it just happened too fast for him to have time to get his jacket. But then another body was found, that of the second cook, and she was found wearing the life jacket marked ‘captain’. And that’s …
It didn’t work. It didn’t save her. But it’s so very possible that he spent his last moments alive trying to save someone else, one of his crew, and they probably both knew that it wouldn’t work, that there wasn’t a lot of hope in a blizzard on the lakes in November, but he tried … he tried anyway. Even if it did nothing but maybe make her body easier for her family to find.
You know that Mr Rogers thing of ‘look for the helpers’? How many times has someone, facing the end, done something tiny and fragile and maybe hopeless just to try and help someone else? Whether it works or not. How many people went to their graves at least trying?
That has to say something about us. As a people. As monstrous as we sometimes (perhaps often) are, so many times we were also …
Whoever saves one life, saves the whole world.
And sometimes you can’t save one life, sometimes it doesn’t work, sometimes there’s no getting out of this for anyone, but … try anyway. Because it matters anyway.
And maybe no one will ever know. But maybe also some day more than a century down the line, maybe some idiot will be crying into her coffee because of what you died trying.

if you have "cishet men dni" in your bio i, a trans man, will not touch you with a 10 foot pole. i should not be forced to out myself as a trans man just to interact with you. on top of that, cishet men are not inherently evil. stop trying to reinvent bioessentialism with your "girl good, boy bad!" mentality.

at this point most “leftist criticism” of the democratic party boils down to “i need to be CONVINCED to vote against open authoritarianism and fascism, what’s in it for ME” as if the answer to that isn’t “not living in a fascist country” and i’m sorry but these people don’t deserve my thoughtful consideration.

So, obviously this is insane, but even though like 86% of LGBT voters went for Harris, there's a small, vocal minority of Terminally Online members of the LGBT community who've bought right-wing talking points that gay and trans rights are liberal bullshit that they should be willing to give up, and I think that's part of what's happening here. I saw it a thousand times last year, with people screaming that "privileged" gay and trans people in America should've been willing to sacrifice their ~frivolous~ rights for Gaza, falsely drawing a connection between those things and, again, playing into the right-wing playbook of downplaying the importance of LGBT rights.
People have been duped and/or radicalized into this weird martyr complex where they think sacrificing their rights will somehow help anyone, instead of do nothing but hurt them. I don't think they're the majority of any given marginalized group, really, but it's an internet thing worth observing

Had the Indominus Rex not escaped its enclosure and succesfully become an attraction at Jurassic World, I guarantee you, it would've been the least popular attraction at the park and the Jurassic World corner of the internet would be filled with internet reviewers talking about how Masrani Global are missing the point of why people go to their dinosaur theme park.
Because yeah, it would not have the same magic as the other dinosaurs at the park, because it didn't exist "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth".
Yeah Dr. Wu's point on how all the dinosaurs are a little modified to fit popular conception is valid but I don't think anyone would want to see a genetically modified super dinosaur. It's just the park undergoing enshittification because they've hit the limit on the amount of people that can actually pay to go to Jurassic World.

Another note on doomerism:
Don’t mistake my rejection of doomerism as a sign that I think everything is okay. I do not. I think everything is miserable, I hate every single person who got us here, I still can’t think about election night without tearing up, and I haven’t had a good day for the past 15 weeks. I am not okay lmao. But even through my depression, my pragmatic side can kick in and see what’s not very likely to happen, and I don’t see value in panicking over those things, as opposed to focusing on what’s happening now and actually likely to happen in the future. I lost 4 years to panicking over every single thing Trump did last time, and it helped nothing. It’s hard, but I can’t let him steal the entirety of another 4 years of my youth from me, and you shouldn’t, either. Court cases fighting the administration, for example, will go on whether you spend the afternoon crying or if you spend it relaxing and talking to friends. Trust me, if tears could save democracy, mine alone would’ve saved America years ago lmaooo. If something Trump does directly impacts you, of course that’s not doomerism, and you should put your time and energy into that, but despairing that we won’t have elections in 4 years is one of those things that’s both unlikely and wouldn’t be solved by you having an anxiety attack over it in your bedroom in the beginning of 2025, either.
Plus, idk, there’s a stubbornness in me. No, this fucker won’t be the end of everything. I refuse to give up all hope because of him, this stupid, disgusting criminal; and I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I refuse to give up this country for the sake of immigrants like my client who told me 2024 was the “best year” because that’s when she came to America—or even my high school friend who just became a citizen and was happy to have his first beer as an American man lol. We need to believe we will take 👏 our 👏 society 👏 back👏 because the story of America is the story of people fighting against the ugliest forces among us to make it a better place. Things have only ever gotten better because people believed that was possible!

Ppl should talk about Elon the way they think poor single mothers behave. Wdym this clearly unwell drug addicted loser who uses his family’s money and the resources he leeched off others (and takes credit for) has 13 children spread out between 4 baby mamas yet clearly doesn’t raise them while simultaneously alienating the one he does like from its mother?

id: a tweet from pop tingz. "max announces the release of the 'luigi mangione: the ceo killer' documentary on february 17th."
hey! just a reminder this alleged "ceo killer" hasn't been convicted of anything, hasn't even gone to trial, was taken into custody without being dna tested or fingerprinted (what fingerprints they did find near the scene were entirely circumstantial), didn't have any contact with legal rep before his extradition hearing, and wasn't identified as a facial match by the fbi's top notch ai software. just don't watch this doc, it's bound to be full of bullshit just like tmz.
