I get that this was a joke, but I really never understood the whole “Americans have one/no culture” thing, especially because this was left on a post where I was talking about SEC sorority rush which is an example of an admittedly complicated but very distinct regional cultural practice? Like even within the context of Greek Life at American Universities in the South you’re going to find several distinct cultural practices because rushing a divine nine sorority is going to be completely different than a panhellenic one both of which would be different from rushing a D9 or panhel fraternity, ALL of which would be different culturally from rushing any kind of greek organization up north, out west, etc. Because of the influence of the multiple distinct regional cultures in the US. Many of us do like burger though.
#I think it feels like America has no culture because we forcibly export our culture and force it on everyone as the default.#but there are a lot of complicated regional cultures here it is interesting. and not just burger

Authoritarian despotic regimes are actually pretty stable as long as their population isn't starving more than usual; most abrupt overturnings of government are instigated by powerful interests (masonic businessmen in the american revolution, the confluence of western intelligence bodies in a lot of recent cases, the cia specifically in most south american cases). But these apparently internal fundamental upsets can only be precipitated, not manufactured whole cloth, which requires an obviously external invasion force.
So when a cia-connected firm conducts exit polling, the polling isn't necessarily manufactured. It could well be but that isn't the point. The point is the cia is poking and prodding the obvious discontent in venezuela, following the most economical path of collapsing an "unfriendly" state by just supporting the opposition. They are following the book.
Look out for venezuela to implode sooner rather than later, and look out for the graverobbers if you want to peek at the cogs in the machine.
#Any nation interested in advancing its interests engages in this as much as they are able#Soviet russia and imperial america were competing against each other for a while until the socialists ran out of exportable expenses#America is going to run out of exportable expenses in the next decade at the most

Rewatching the 90s live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, a nice little touch is that they go out of their way to establish that the evil ninjas are not Japanese (except the Shredder) and that the Japanese-American community has actually been warning the authorities about the evil Foot Clan.
I don't know how many people remember this, but in the 80s/90s in America there was a lot of anxiety / prejudice towards Japan, which was perceived as this mysterious place full of workers who were "too" efficient compared to lazy Americans and thus were going to crush the American car industry or something.
Specifically, I remember an American car dealer (as in he sold American car brands like Fords or Chevys) who ran a local ad urging people to "buy American" instead of supporting "communist Japan."
Shoutout to the journalist back then who covered the story / called him out on his prejudice + pointed out that Japan was not a communist country. No matter the era, there were / are people pushing back against stupidity and bigotry. And you can be one of them. :)
Anyway, TMNT is a great movie.
#TMNT#Japan#anti asian prejudice#iirc right after WWII Japan was perceived by the west as a place where junk was manufactured#like cheap trinkets that these days come from China#and electronics that fell apart after one use#but then that shifted and Japan began to export high quality goods#and this happened as manufacturing was basically dying in America#so it was racism + this perception that America was falling behind

every time i research smth i consider to be a specifically american food (chicken nuggets, cool whip, american cheese) its origins lie in industry & theyre 'inventions' more than they are... foods. which is kinda crazy & so symbolic of what the US is in my head like all of them r innovations which make the foods resist better at diff temperatures so they can be sold in larger quantities
#whats crazy is there ARE actual american foods but they just havent become cultural exports#like ive never eaten collard greens or cornbread or clam chowder or whatever. never even had the option#which is kinda tragic bc it sounds like thats the real american food#like homemade food#ive tried diff kinds of fried chicken obvs in like kfc and popeyes but thats the extent of like regional american food ive been exposed to#all the stuff thats become like The american food has its origins in industry#[also when i say america im talking abt the US i should specify] [shoutout tomatoes and corn i love you tomatoes and corn thx for that]#food tw

A really frustrating thing that happens a lot is I'll see a book with the word "Vietnam" in the title and get excited, but then I look at the back and it's got nothing to do with the actual country of Vietnam and is just about American soldiers. The name "Vietnam" is already taken, find another shorthand to describe your war!
#saw a graphic novel at the store that was titled “Vietnam Horrors” and I was like oh sick#Vietnamese horror stories#but NOPE it was just about soldiers#Also it's telling that cultural fascination with the Vietnam War has never translated to cultural fascination with Vietnam#Vietnamese culture has like zero foothold in America#although to be fair not a lot of Vietnamese media really gets exported to the “West”#but I'll see people say stuff like “this is my Vietnam” and I'm like you wouldn't say that about any other country people

I'm trying to not sound like a lunatic, but also American accents are so cute and adorable. Really big fan of Texas accents. And old school New York accents. Adorable, will be spending a solid four to five years trying to pick that up.
#America please export your accents#and only your accents#there's novelty to them for me#personal#maybe this is too personal#I feel like I've done something cursed admitting this#regional american accents

i wonder if americans realise that the reason so much of the world shits on their “lack of culture” is because they developed a culture and exported it everywhere. i wonder if they realise that american cultural hegemony is so strong everywhere that it started blending with other cultures with no cultural give back. american dreams, american ideas, american dress, american racism. i wonder if they realise that actually, everywhere else is aware of their pop stars and their iconic scenery and their historical aesthetics and their values, whether they wanted to be or not, but they have no clue what goes on beyond the borders of their nation because their public school system is so bad 🥺 and i wonder if they’ve realised it or if they’re too busy playing the international victim to notice what’s going on
#saw a post that was like i’m TIRED of being told by NON AMERICANS that AMERICA has no CULTURAL VALUE#my guy. america had so much cultural value that we all know about diners and american forests and hollywood and New Yawk#america’s number one export has always been culture you cannot be mad that people are sick of it jesus#i KNOW it’s the fourth of july I AM AWARE IM BEING MEAN. but like what are you saying do you walk through the world blind#how insanely online are you how many people told you they don’t like deep fried oreos or something#sorry i’m mad#stuff

Why Kenya’s Avocado Industry Needs to Expand Beyond Europe to Succeed
Kenyan avocado exporters face challenges due to disruptions in the Middle East, which have increased freight costs and transit times. Instead of retreating, they need to expand production, diversify markets and improve infrastructure to remain competitive. Kenya is one of the largest exporters of avocados in the world with 3,000 to 4,000 reefer containers of the nutrient-dense fruit leaving the…

#what if there was a war between america and some country//i was thinking mexico but it would probably be more obscure/specific//#the problem between our countries in this war is imports due to the beaurocratic guidelines america sets for the market#in turn the other country stops exporting to our country and then it makes it so everything in stores like chips and stuff#the war causes less seasonings to be let into our national markets causing every product//like chips//to taste the same even tho they look#even tho they look differebt#its a worry surrounding seasoning complexity and the way war would effect every citizen in the country#'yea the export ban made it so queso chips just taste like the mac n cheese type of cheese rather than queso flavor
