Obligatory “long time lurker, first time poster”...but more like lurking extensively from the r/tumblr to r/CuratedTumblr and never really be active (in the sense of posting anything) on any social media and decided to pick Tumblr as the void I’m going to scream at. Thanks to all the lovely people at Reddit for curating the content of Tumblr for me so that I only great, creative minds sharing thoughts on how the world can be a better place for everyone *while menacingly ignoring the dumpster fire that is fandom culture I’ve only heard so much about and view through the reinforced glass of r/HobbyDrama (yes, I’m from Reddit, how could you tell *wave hand excitedly*)*

But for real, there’s something surreal about making a first post on a new social media platform, after having heard so much about it. To me, it has both that pride of coding “Hello World” for the first time but also the unfathomable anxiety of learning all of the nuances and customs and practices of how to post “right”. The languages, the topics, tagging, how to follow people and reblog to curate your own community or just have a proper void to scream at instead of being inside one of those quiet rooms. I actually wanted to make a first post to talk about how society has advanced from a reddit TIL post (perhaps I should stop referencing reddit so much but hey #citation) about George Washington “practicing” medicine. But took a detour just to reflect on the experience of posting, not just specifically on Tumblr I supposed but at this point, entering ~the social media~.

I don’t think my journey with social media was anything special, albeit not the norm. I posted on facebook stories I wrote in my last life and only recently learning that it was engaging in fandom and writing fanfiction. I only started lurking reddit just before the pandemic and was so proud of myself for posting a comment trying to help someone find a game they once played. It’s insignificant is my point, but that insignificance of the moment sits me down for a moment and tells me to read into how big it can be, if I want it to be.

There’s not really a point to this post I guess. Do we call it post here? Can someone hold my hands and walk me through Tumblr like walking toddlers to kindergarten on their first day? Is it polite to bring reddiquette here or is this an invasive species in action? If it is polite, thank you for coming to my Ted Talk!

Fauna took her usual path into Main Street Park and sat down on the nearest bench, letting out a deep, calm sigh. Mondays were dedicated to reading, and what better place to read than the park? Fauna took out her book, written by one Jules Verne, a supposed unexceptional human with an altogether exceptional imagination. Fauna particularly liked fantasy tales, especially when they were written by humans. It fascinated her how a mind presented with only the most mundane of things could come up with something so...well, magical.

The sunlight, however, was posing a bit of an issue for reading comfortably. Fauna squinted up at the sun disapprovingly and then, without a second thought, used her abilities to grow the tree beside her a few feet taller so that the branches would shroud her from the sun.

Fauna noted someone walking by carrying a book of their own and instinctually moved over on the bench, not wanting to hoard the perfect spot she'd just created. She was many things, but never selfish. At least not intentionally. Fauna remained reserved for a few moments, but the curiosity within her couldn't follow suit. She shot a sneaky glance at the person next to her.

"Can I ask- what are you reading?"
