Sorry, this is going to be a rant
But fucking FUCK
Hate hate bite stab kill
I am located in Los Angeles, specifically, in The Valley, on the north side of the Santa Monica Mountains.
About an hour south of me, the Pacific Palisades (around 3,00 acres of it, might I add) are on fucking fire! The entire neighborhood has been on fire ALMOST THE ENTIRE DAY. THE WINDS ARE TOO STRONG TO DROP WATER AND FIRE RETARDANT.
Everything between the Palisades and Malibu are in trouble.
I have friends in Brentwood, at UCLA, and in Manhattan Beach who can SEE THE FIRE FROM THEIR DWELLINGS.
My friend in Inglewood LOST POWER DUE TO THE SEVERE WIND.
I’ve also been getting severe winds in my location.
Hell, even my lights flickered for a moment.
Santa Monica is under an evacuation order.
ON TOP OF THAT ALTADENA IS ALSO ON FIRE AND THE WINDS ARE BLOWING THAT FIRE TOWARDS PASADENA.
I have family friends in Pasadena and they are currently driving their way over here to stay with me. I’m in the middle of setting up air mattresses.
It’s been a long, long while since LA has had a fire crisis, I guess the Universe just decided to throw another one at us.
(January 7th 2025).

My childhood home is gone
So I never really talk about where I live on social media, for good reason. But right now, I have to talk about where I lived up until just a few years ago -- for my whole childhood and most of my adulthood.
And that place was Altadena, California. A place that is now completely gone. Burnt to the ground in the devastating wildfires you might have heard about.
I don't have a picture of my old house yet, but I'm almost 100% certain now that it's gone. My childhood home burnt to the ground. And I feel devastated by that fact. I know that the minute I see a picture of what's left of it -- if anything -- I'm going to cry.
I lived through so many wildfires, having lived in Altadena for so long, that I honestly couldn't believe it when I heard the whole community/township was now gone. Even seeing the pictures and videos it doesn't feel real to me. The places I hung out, like the Altadena Public Library, or my old elementary school which was right down the street from my old house are gone. The historic houses and landmarks like Christmas Tree Lane, are gone.
My old house was one of the old historic ones, built over 100 years ago.
My dad is buried in the Altadena cemetery. Which also burned down.
All my old neighbors who lived there are safe and got out, which is a blessing. But they have all lost everything. And even though I don't live there anymore, I feel like I've lost something major as well. Because even though I don't live there physically anymore, I still feel like Altadena was my home, given all the years and people I grew up with in that community.

You heard right. It could be months before I'm allowed to go back home. I was so hopeful that I could go home before the end of the month, maybe even after my birthday...but now, those hopes have been crushed because I found out that our building had absorbed the toxins from the structures that had been destroyed.
Why? Why did this happen?
I just don't understand...I'll never understand...

Trent Ford played Macon Forrester in the 2003 adaptation of That Summer and Someone Like You called How to Deal.
Here he is at school listening to Mandy Moore's Halley Martin:

And later in the movie when he confesses his love to her on her dad's radio show:

In 2020 Trent was hospitalized for liver failure and was fortunate to receive a transplant before the end of the year.
After his recovery he and his partner, Natalie Cohen, founded the non-profit organization Relive to offer free support and resources to patients and caregivers during pre- and post-liver transplant surgeries.
Relive's facility and the couple's home was in Altadena, and they had to evacuate this January during California's Eaton Wildfire.
A few days later Trent underwent emergency surgery on his birthday to restore blood flow to his transplanted liver.

As a birthday gesture, Natalie arranged a Go Fund Me to help during the displacement and recovery.
Thank you for reading and for those that can share and donate.

Why did former L.A. City Fire Chief criticize Mayor Karen Bass for the $17 million cut from the fire Department's budget, when the L.A. City Fire Department had ended up giving the Department's budget a FOUR PERCENT INCREASE? Was this complaint political?
Why is no one criticizing the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for the near destruction of Altadena and Malibu, which are both under the L.A. COUNTY jurisdiction?

Altadena Fire Pt. 5
Electricity and internet has come back to my house, the water is flowing but is still incredibly unsafe. I go to the house every day and greet it, walk through every room with gratitude, wishing I could stay inside all day. I can't wait to live in it even if it means going to the gym or my mom's house down the street to take a full shower every day. On Thursday Jan 30th I attended a how-to cleaning class and received items from them that professionals used. I only asked for enough for one room, then den. I felt that if I could clean the den on my own enough, then I could bring the cats back safely and start on the rest of the house. On Sunday Feb 2nd I cleaned the den with the equipment and chemicals I received. Once again, I feel beyond thankful that so little soot and damage was done to the house compared to what's around me. Just by sweeping the soot by the door alone made the room smell so much cleaner, though there are still VOCs in the air inside that I can smell. I'm awaiting approval on products to deal with that. We may still hire professional cleaning services that will be covered partially by insurance, but I'd have to let them know that we cannot use ozone cleaning machines as those will require the windows to be open after use for up to 45 minutes which kind of defeats the purpose when the entire outside is toxic. I'm also going to just do all the laundry at a laundromat myself over the course of several days. I've already bagged up Daniel's clothing, so now I just need to work on mine and all the bedding. Honestly, I'm feeling that unless we were to move out completely from the area, we'd be unsafe everywhere below the mountains. So many areas in Los Angeles are still teeming with ash and soot floating in the air. We could easily afford a huge house with a low mortgage like Daniel has always wanted up in Lancaster/Palmdale, but he refuses to move anywhere else that is away from his parents and more than 30 minutes driving distance from his job despite working from home most days of the week. So, if I'm stuck here I have to make the most of it even at the cost of my health. But I'll do what I can to stay clean and safe.
