I was unaware of any 'purposely left' scar option but could be, I mean, if it's fanfic anything works [/my opinion, never been a canon purist?].

I'd still love to know where I found this info (must try to find it for curiosity's sake)! I was fresh off the series (around midway through this year) and wanted to learn more of the lore and then stumbled upon... something that put these ideas into my head but yeah, I mean, it's not farfetched so why not. 😀 Think the reasoning had to do with the scar being a reminder of his own father attacking him and just how much the grieving madman needed to be taken down, which is... quite sad. 😥

It's... I don't wanna say 'easier' in that sense since any art form presents its own set of challenges, but you're definitely fortunate in the regard that you can alter the lore as needed to suit the story and not be overly concerned if it diverges too much from the source material. ☺ My mindset has difficulty finding that middle ground. 😅

Both concepts work, really, and are equally fun! All just depends on the setting again. For me, I kinda lean towards the 'incapable' side too for it presents a flaw (so to speak), the human side affecting the ability(?) and helps balance out an otherwise almost perfect being... Another random one but I may even slightly HC that Al might be infertile due to being a hybrid, but the possibilities are something I intend to look further into at some stage and are currently just a small thought.

Ah yes, bottom line: Do as you please. 😁 For you personally, though, how far is too far? Just curious.

Think Lenore also mentions something about blood being what keeps them at their peak (magic wise?). Oh, wholeheartedly agree; there seems to be no interest in it, nor does the very presence of blood appear to excite any of the vampires, unlike in other media.

Have to wonder if Lisa perhaps had a hand in it, too; not wanting her husband and child to partake in the blood consumption (not anymore, in Drac's case). Human blood, anyway. Though, Godbrand mentions "He hasn't fed in a while." (paraphrasing) A while in their term which could very well mean years?

Alucard's upbringing is also of insane interest to me, such as, would his vampiric side have prompted cravings while he grew up, even if he'd never even tasted it? But that's a rabbit hole for another time! Far too many thoughts and questions on it!

Aside from those stores in his keep under Gresit (which are… bizarre in and of themselves, honestly 🤔) and a comment to Trevor about 'killing and eating' him which could be interpreted in different ways, there doesn't appear to be that much canonical evidence to support the idea. Took my noob ponderings to the world wide web, but with little success. Most offered info from his game counterpart, which states that he apparently has consumed in the past but dislikes the taste? 🤔 If correct, one could fill in the gaps with info from similar sources as such, of course, but I personally still enjoy reading others' takes on the question. 😁

And it's naturally a fun idea that the fandom seems to eat up; him drinking from his partner 'cause c'mon, you have a half-VAMPIRE boyfriend/husband! Bu~ut, what if he doesn't like blood? What would the reason be? HAS he perhaps consumed in the past but no longer does? Share with me your wisdom!... Please. If it's not too much trouble. 😊

From your note I take it we're mainly interested in 'show-canon' here, and that’s the lens I’ll filter this through but I'll refer to other media from the Castlevania universe on this topic.

Yes, as you wrote, the show-verse interpretation of him has some references to hematophagy:

The presence of these in Alucard's private Keep:

Considering Alucard was in pretty bad shape after the first confrontation with Drac, and IF we assume those contain blood, it seems implied it was used in some manner as part of a healing/reanimation system OR, maybe, as sustenance during his Sleep ... The provenance of it? We (I) don't know, the show doesn't focus on that.

Alucard heals speedily when wounded as evidenced in the show a few times, and the fact that the chest scar remains after Dracula fights him in season I suggests to me just how close to kicking the bucket he might've been, if we think about who wounded him in the first place. So, maybe this was a one time case of needing this extra support? But don't know. In the speculation business here.

Just a fun thing, they make me think of these health bars in the games:

2. Again as you mentioned, the 'kill you and eat you' banter. It's hard to tell but my take is Alucard simply played on Trevor's preconceptions there to get a laugh out of it, since he was aware of the prophecy as shown when he asks Sypha here 'do you know the whole story?'

(can we pause to appreciate Sypha's blush for a moment aww)

And (I think) that when he saw them and heard their reason for coming, he likely knew, hence the 'do you care, Belmont?' questions. But he's a bastard(affectionate) and why not test a Belmont out because he can.

3. Adding what he told Sumi and Taka in season III:

Now, the statement might've been an extrapolation as a part of training, but do with that what you will.

It's a fun idea to eat up(har har) because blood drinking, or the symbolism of it - taking of one’s life force, has often been depicted as having a sensual side in certain literature genres and other media if the intent is not murderous (aka not a 'drink them dry' situation). It represents a physical and visceral connection between the (usually) willing giver and taker on a much deeper level than other pleasurable physical interactions let's say. It involves a huge amount of trust from one party, and the validation of that trust by the other.

I won't go into the wider discussion of the vampire myth origins and how it changed from its folkloric roots around the 19th century, though there is a lot to say. But the concept of vampirism has been around for millennia - as far back as Mesopotamia. Suffice to add that the contemporary Lestat-Dracula-Alucard types, the elegant, decadently flawless depictions of the vampire are a product of literary works gaining popularity at the time (rotting thanks to John Polidori, Sheridan Le Fanu and the like). Also! The term dhampir is not a Castlevania invention, but has its origins in Balkan folklore, with the same meaning.

Right! The gameverse/Castlevania universe has some other references to it too, some I remember:

In SOTN he can activate a spell called dark metamorphosis, which in summary heals him if coming in contact with (enemies') blood 

Soul steal is another spell in the games that Alucard (and Dracula) can master, which is just that: healing by draining 'souls'/the life energy of those around them, dealing damage and healing themselves.

While neither of these are straight up 'blood drinking' they follow the trail of vampirism - draining the vital essence of the living.

And since we're here, lumping this together. A spinoff radio drama (Japanese) taking place after SOTN events deals strongly with Alucard and hematophagy. In Nocturne of Recollection Maria Renard is living with Alucard after the SOTN events (... nothing suggested they’re in a romantic relationship, mind you, at least it didn't seem like it to me).

The Villain of the story (incubus Magnus) appears to Maria and suggests Alucard won’t be able to control his thirst at one point around her, saying something like (paraphrasing) “why do you think he keeps a human around”.

She doesn’t believe him, but then asks Alucard about it, who admits he has consumed human blood in the past, but obviously doesn’t anymore. In the past he turned an old servant/friend (Lyudmil) into a vampire, which is strongly implied. It's also suggested that he struggled with his vampirism and legacy. I like to reference these bits in any ‘dhampir turns someone’ fic since it’s still in the Castlevania universe and Why Not.

Going back to the animated show, I’ve seen (and used) some common tropes in CV series fanfic:

drinks blood in dire circumstances: he’s gravely injured, usually beyond healing abilities for some reason and someone offers up blood to help him heal/get back on his feet

Sensual, usually blood kink/blood play, mostly in smutfic 

My headcanon of show-verse Alucard is he can drink blood, but he doesn’t need to, since we've of course seen him eat plain ol' human food. Nor is he interested, I see him presented as leaning more towards the human side of his legacy here. Anyway, this was the mile-long ramble, I likely missed some things but in the end it's up to you how you want to interpret it as an author, how much you want to keep to the fandom universe or expand beyond it.

I'm a strong proponent of 'it's canon if it works for me' in fanfiction writing tbh, and I've written AU show-verse Alucard drinking blood for various reasons/with various effects. Looking forward to how you apply it for fic purposes!

How They Wrap Christmas Presents

Just some head canons I thought of while wrapping gifts the other day 😅

Muzan

He will use fancy wrapping paper. Some shit he bought in some posh shop somewhere.

He likes decent quality wrapping paper.

Will either have everything wrapped weeks before Christmas or will be last minute wrapping everything Christmas Eve.

Is surprisingly very bad at wrapping present.

The present is like 90% tape, good luck opening it. He just wants to make sure the gift is safe 🥺

He also doesn't want to accidentally rip the wrapping with his bitch ass claws.

Perhaps he will get you a pair of scissors to open gifts with next Christmas (if you can open them that is).

Kokushibo

He will put in the effort with wrapping.

Dude will even tie up all of his gifts in pretty ribbons.

Colour coordinated name tags matching the ribbons.

He starts wrapping his presents right at the beginning of December. This boi is organised and everything is under the Christmas tree ready to be opened 🤗

Makes a mess wrapping but will tidy after himself.

Douma

Very lazy with gifts.

Will probably wrap your gift in tinfoil.

"I am the gift sweetie!" He says "besides, tinfoil is Christmassy, they use it to wrap the turkey!". 😌

Will probably gift you a picture of him, he is a cult leader after all 😂

Speaking of, if he's feeling particularly lazy he will get his cult members to wrap his presents for him.

He may also bully some of the lower members of the Kizuki into doing his wrapping. Babygirl doesn't want to get his nails chipped.

Very messy when wrapping presents and will leave mess everywhere.

Akaza

He's not really a Christmas fan.

Would rather be out fighting or training to get stronger

If he likes you enough though, he will get you a little something 😄

Just uses basic wrapping paper but will make enough effort when wrapping.

Will definitely have a go at Douma for being lazy and using tinfoil instead of wrapping paper.

Kokushibo then has a go at Akaza for having a go at Douma, he's like "know your place bitch!".

Afterwards Akaza pouts in a corner, "I fucking hate this family!" 😠

And for funsies I thought I'd add Mew since she's in my comics a lot too 😂

Also uses way too much tape.

"Ooooh sparkly wrapping paper!"

Draws silly pictures all over the wrapping paper too. Some are obscene.

Makes a mess and forgets to tidy after herself.

She likes to buy thoughtful presents that will make everyone happy. 😸

Will probably accidentally wrap herself up instead of the present. Haha derp!

Nesta plopped the last box of ornaments on the coffee table with an accomplished sigh. She had successfully brought down all of the boxes by herself from the attic. Cassian was going to help but she grew impatient waiting for him to come home from shopping. It was the last thing they had to do and Nesta was too excited to wait. So she chugged her morning coffee and braved the attic ladder for the spirit of Christmas.  

This was Nyx’s first Christams so everything had to be perfect for her little nephew. Looking around the living room Nesta smiled to herself. The mantle–which currently housed a roaring fire– was beautifully decorated with fir branches, colorful winter candyland baubles, twinkling lights, and two large bows at either end. Their usual soft throw pillows on the couches have been changed out for candy cane pillows and blankets with snowflakes and snowmen. 

The only thing left to decorate was the tree. Nesta started opening all the plastic boxes when the front door opened, Cassian’s cheery voice ringing through their warm home. When he appeared in the living room bags of different sizes decorated his arms, a large grin on his face. “Hey baby, I thought I was going to help you with those?” Nesta returned his smile unwrapping the book stack ornament Cassian got her last year. “I could’t wait. Did you get the stuff for our mega gingerbread house?” 

Cassian chuckled and held up a bag from their favorite bakery. “Oh yeah. Let me put this stuff away and we’ll decorate.” Nesta smiled at his retreating back. She couldn’t help but feel like the luckiest woman in the world. As a child her and her sisters never had a good holiday experience thanks to their parents. Their mother’s focus was throwing the best parties for Christmas and New Years. Always neglecting to get the girls presents or doing any holiday activities with them. 

When Feyre and Rhysand found each other that’s when the new holiday traditions started. The first time they all spent Christmas together Nesta was drawn to Cassian and the love he had for the holiday. He made sure she and Elain felt welcome, the brothers even made sure they had a few gifts to open. Ever since that day Cassian and Nesta were inseperable. 

Cassian laid out the gingerbread pieces on the island along with the icing and candy toppings. He swiped two candy canes for him and Nes before sorting gifts that could be wrapped today and ones that he’d wrap tonight when Nesta was fast asleep. Gathering the gifts, wrapping paper, tape, and scissors he headed back to the living room. 

Nesta was half done unwrapping the ornaments, humming along to the Christmas playlist lightly playing from the speaker. Cassian never knew why she insisted on throwing Justin Bieber’s Christmas album into the mix of songs but he went with it. He would never tell Nesta that he enjoyed it. Cassian would never hear the end of it from her or his brothers. Dumping the gift supplies on the couch Cassian started picking up ornaments, choosing which ones he wanted to hang on the tree first. 

As the hours passed Cassian and Nesta were giggling as they reminisced about the joke ornaments they had bought each other over the years. Cassian found a Santa hat in one of the decoration boxes and decided it was his, even though Nesta fought him for it. Her consolation prize was silver tinsel Cassian wrapped around her like a scarf. 

Once the tree was done, Cassian and Nesta stood back wrapped in each other’s arms. Cassian kissed her tinsel covered head and looked down at his girlfriend with deep adoration. She looks so beautiful with the colorful Christmas lights reflecting in her blue-gray eyes. Images of their future together ran through his mind. A few more holidays by themselves and one day, maybe, a set of twin girls with his hair and her features running around. They’re in matching Christmas PJ’s trying to sneak a peak at the gifts they spent hours wrapping after bedtime before being caught by mom and dad.  

Breaking him from his thoughts Nesta bumped her hip against his. “Alright you,” she said cooly, “Lets get to wrapping.” 

Getting settled on the floor Cassian started rolling out wrapping paper. Nesta turned on the TV immediately changing the channel. When Nesta saw Rudolph was on she let out a happy hum, watching with a childlike wonder Cassian rarely saw from her. They noticed most of the gifts are for Nyx. Yeah he’s only a few months old, but Cassian and Nesta wanted his first Christmas to be special. Since they were hosting, the pair wanted their nephew to be the center of attention.   

Moving to the kitchen Cassian put the kettle on for hot cocoa as Nesta took a seat at the island and began unwrapping the toppings, throwing a few gumdrops in her mouth. “Hey,” she said to get Cassian’s attention. He turned to see Nesta cocking her arm back, gumdrop between her fingers, nodding at him with a determined smile. Cassian smirks, opening his mouth wide, leaning his head back a little. Nesta launches it in a short arch landing right on Cassian’s tongue. They both raise their arms in victory letting out a twin ‘woo’.  

Mega gingerbread house had to look perfect this year since it would be the center piece of the mantel. So this year they actually tried to not make it a disaster that would collapse just so they could eat it. Once it was a sugary monstrosity Nyx was sure to grab at, the pair carefully transported mega gingerbread house to its pedestal. It was quite impressive. The house looked like it belonged on a mountain top, Nesta guessed it kind of was thanks to where it was placed.   

Looking at his watch Cassian grimaced, noting it was much later than he thought. 

Getting settled in bed Cass watched his show on his iPad while Nesta read Christmas book seven of the twelve he got her. She hated being behind on her twelve days of Christmas reads. This one was about a long distance couple finally meeting for a magically holiday in the city. 

An hour passed before Cassian heard Nes slightly snoring. He smiled to himself as he softly kisses her forehead, silently slipping out from under the covers. Two years ago Cass caught Nesta snooping through her gift pile during the day so he made the decision to wrap in the middle of the night.

Sorting through the gifts in the living room Cassian couldn’t help but feel proud of himself. This year’s haul for Nesta was perfect if he did say so himself. He even got her special wrapping paper with little books on it. 

After an hour of wrapping gifts Cassian crept back upstairs. There was one more thing he had to check on before he went to sleep. Tiptoeing as best he could to the closet he slipped inside. Using the flash light on his phone so he wouldn’t wake Nesta he quietly opened his shirt drawer, digging out the smal black velvet box.   

Checking on the ring he knew was tucked away in the perfect hiding spot Cassian grined. Everytime Cass looked at the engagement ring his heart pounded with excitement. It took all of his self restraint to not propose to Nesta everyday. No, he would wait and make this the best Christmas, better than the one they first met. He’ll never forget the surprised face Nesta made when he handed her that first gift. Cassian smiled thinking about the surprise that will grace Nesta’s beautiful face in just two days. 

Two more days and they’ll have a life time of happy holidays together.

1. Music: I play the violin, sing and have a bunch of instruments I can play a little bit. A piano, zither, ukelele, flute, clarinet, trumpet, nose flute!! Mouth harp, harmonica, etc etc etc

2. Nature: I love plants and although I don't have green thumbs, I've learned how to care for them (mostly). I also love all animals (except mosquitos). So walking through nature, gardening, buying too many house plants, typical millennial shit.

3. Gaming: up until I got rsi I played sooo many hours a day, now I just physically can't so I sometimes watch playthroughs for the nostalgia. I sometimes still play myself though.

Bonus: I would like to take up art; like drawing and painting, and also photography. I think that even though I have bad eyesight, I have a good eye for beauty and composition.

Todays prompt gives us a bit more detail into our journey with uncovering our comfort and attachment styles.

We are journaling specifically about when we are sad and how we like to be comforted when we are upset.

Don’t pay attention to how people normally react to comforting you, for a moment, just journal about how you’d like to be comforted when you are sad.

Maybe you’d want people to just hold you, or to hug you, or to be affectionate somehow when you are sad?

Maybe you want people to just be present with you, and to help supply you? Someone who gets you tissue or who assists you in some way?

It is also okay if you don’t know just yet how you like to be comforted when sad, that’s why we are journaling about it 🥰
