This is my thoughts exactly!! I do not believe Muzan was born evil but he was the victim of his own trauma and disease. We never see his parents, he even said in his back story the only one he had was the doctor hired to heal him.

He probably became bitter as he got older and his condition wasn't getting any better. Plus I doubt people in the Heian era were as sympathetic of the sick or they avoided them completely.

I often wonder if Muzan wasn't terminally ill as a human, would he have become so evil?

I think about Muzan's family a lot, and his potential relationship to them. His backstory was brief, but it's telling to me that there's no mention of his parents ever visiting him. He didn't even seem to have friends – just left on his futon to rot.

But I consider his childhood and wonder if things were different. I wonder if his mom would ever sit with him on his worse days and hold his hand, or if she would sing to him whenever he cried in pain or discomfort.

I wonder if his father ever took him for a ride on the horse on his good days, promising to teach him how to ride once he was bigger and stronger.

I wonder, as the years passed and it became clear that Muzan's condition wasn't going to clear up, if they began to pull away from him. Was it resentment? Were they trying to distance themselves so it wouldn't hurt as much?

Is that why Muzan became so angry and disillusioned with the world? How old was he when he realized his parents would no longer come to visit and comfort him?

Did he lash out in anger? Did he cry when he was alone, remembering the few fond memories he had of them? It must have been hard. It must have been scary to realize he might die alone as a kid with his parents moving on to healthier children while he was left in the past.

He wasn't born evil, no one is, and I doubt he was as jaded and cynical as a child as he became as a teen/adult.

Do you ever think about how scary it must have been for a little boy to know he was dying? To come face to face with mortality at such a young age? Do you ever think about him having to watch all the other children play while he has to sit alone because it hurts too much to move?

Maybe the other children began avoiding him, spreading rumors that he'd give them what he had or that he was cursed. He's scared and the pain is so bad on some days that all he can do is cry, but maybe he's young enough to still have hope.

Young enough to still believe the doctors and listen to their every word, hoping that maybe if he's really good, the gods will heal him. He's a good boy, right? The gods wouldn't punish someone innocent. . .
