I tend to resent fan theories claiming that Brienne of Tarth is transmasculine simply because she is gender non-conforming and has a martial lifestyle that few women are permitted to take, because I think it undermines the message that women are capable of anything once the wall of patriarchy is breached. (Might Cersei Lannister and Alleras be better candidates?)
However, I will swear to you by the old gods and the new that Samwell Tarly is absolutely 100% a closeted trans woman.

My favorite person to ship Dany with is Alleras (aka Sarella Sand) and I even have a gay little tinfoil hat theory about them. Together I call them Sphinxstorm and they are the endgame Dany ship I have planned for my longfic. From what we know of Alleras, he is intelligent, funny, and charming to women – to me he sounds exactly like the type of person that Dany would have a crush on. Only the best for my bi queen!
The highlighted line below is often used as evidence that Daenerys will eventually fall in love with Jon Snow:
I don't have anything against that ship, however I couldn’t help noticing that one could argue that the text above points more to Alleras here than it does to Jon. Though Jon is never described as comely, that is one of the first words used to describe Alleras. To be fair, we naturally get less description of POV characters than non-POV characters and Im sure Jon could be described as comely. However, I find it interesting that GRRM would choose that as one of the first words to describe Alleras in the prologue of the book that follows the mention of this comely suitor.
This "shifting shadow" of a face Dany dreams of calls to mind previous descriptions of the Stranger in ASOIAF, which has been linked to other gender-nonconforming characters like Brienne. What if the shadow is shifting because Sarella's identity is shifting to be Alleras? Given that he seems close to Marwyn at the Citadel, I wonder if he won't have a bigger role to play for Daenerys when she arrives in Westeros.

"I'm Sam the Scared, not Sam the Slayer." "Scared? Of what? The chidings of old men? Sam, you saw the wights come swarming up the Fist, a tide of living dead men with black hands and bright blue eyes. You slew an Other."
-AFFC, Samwell I
Sam admittedly is not a warrior as he was repeatedly reminded by his abusive father, but we see him kill an Other with a knife, slay a wighted Small Paul who was already big and strong in life and beat up Dareon for abandoning their party and the Night’s Watch. Without realizing it, he actually is brave and tough, especially on behalf of those he cares about.
"In the Age of Heroes it was supposedly the stronghold of a pirate lord who sat here robbing ships as they came down the river."
. . .
"They will take anything these days. Dusky dogs and Dornishmen, pig boys, cripples, cretins, and now a black-clad whale. And here I thought leviathans were grey."
-AFFC, Samwell V
Behind the dais a kraken and grey leviathan were locked in battle beneath the painted waves.
-ADWD, Davos III
Having fought a brawl, and killed in one-on-one, when Euron inevitably attacks Oldtown, it would be the first battle Sam participates in as a combatant, especially if Euron attacks through the Honeywine that flows through the Citadel after carrying the longships overland to the river like Harwyn Hardhand did.
Sam, as often befits his story arc, would find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, shoved by fate into a fight he doesn’t want.
**Slight The Winds of Winter Spoiler**
Euron Crow’s Eye stood upon the deck of Silence, clad in a suit of black scale armor like nothing Aeron had ever seen before. Dark as smoke it was, but Euron wore it as easily as if it was the thinnest silk. The scales were edged in red gold, and gleamed and shimmered when they moved. Patterns could be seen within the metal, whorls and glyphs and arcane symbols folded into the steel.
Valyrian steel, the Damphair knew. His armor is Valyrian steel.
-TWOW, The Forsaken
When Euron attacks Oldtown he will likely be wearing that Valyrian steel scale hauberk that will make him impervious to any weapon directed at his torso, giving him a significant advantage in combat. One could aim for his head, but he would likely be wearing a good helmet. Even Lazy Leo, skilled with a bravo’s blade and dagger, could try to slay him but fail to get past the armor.
However, there is likely one weak spot that his armor wouldn’t cover: his eyes. The black eye that gave Euron his sobriquet of “Crow’s Eye,” itself evokes the term “bullseye,” the black spot in the middle of the target an archer intends to hit. “Crow” is also a nickname for a member of the Night’s Watch.
Sam saw the sense in the decree, but he hated longbow practice almost as much as he hated climbing steps. When he wore his gloves he could never hit anything, but when he took them off he got blisters on his fingers. Those bows were dangerous. Satin had torn off half his thumbnail on a bowstring.
-AFFC, Samwell I
She captained the ship's red archers too, and pulled a double-curved goldenheart bow that could send a shaft four hundred yards. When the pirates had attacked them in the Stepstones, Kojja's arrows had slain a dozen of them whilst Sam's own shafts were falling in the water.
-AFFC, Samwell IV
She waited till the longship came within two hundred yards before she gave the command to loose. Sam loosed with them, and this time he thought his arrow reached the ship. One volley was all it took. The longship veered south in search of tamer prey.
-AFFC, Samwell V
Sam showed a steady progression in his skills at archery. When he came to Oldtown, he already made a friend in Alleras, who himself (or perhaps herself) proves to be an expert marksman when first introduced. Alleras will likely help Sam improve further. It’s noted in the last chapter, Sam manages to reach his target, which just so happens to be an Ironborn longship.
Knives and bow and arrows are the tools for a huntsman, the sigil of House Tarly. Sam already killed with a knife with the Other, and killing with a bow and arrow, he would become the striding huntsman of his sigil.
In a dose of irony, Euron is killed not by an axe wielded by some tough, armored warrior or a sword wielded by a gallant knight in shining armor, but by an arrow to his crow’s eye from an overweight scholar. Then again, at Oakenshield, the Reader showed Euron was never good at dealing with those kinds of people. lol.
Euron’s death will have left the Ironborn at Oldtown leaderless and they will likely be crushed when an aiding army arrives at around the same time. Like Bloodraven, Sam’s deed of slaying the rebel king with his bow may win the battle, but may likely be overlooked by the singers. He would be the unsung hero.
On a side note, Euron’s Valyrian scale armor is too valuable to miss given even Aeron admitted it is the only one that exists in Westeros. I think Sam might keep it, and if it likely doesn’t fit him, he’ll probably give it to Jon, especially after learning about the assassination attempt against him.
“Here Jon, this will make you less vulnerable to daggers.”
It would fit with the comment Jon mentioned to Sam of wanting to be “Valyrian steel,” and symbolically would serve as a mark of progression for Jon’s character. The red gold and black steel are also Targaryen house colors.

"— Você é noviço?
— Acólito. Alleras, alguns me chamam de Esfinge.
Sam se assustou.
— A esfinge é uma adivinha, não o adivinho — disse atropeladamente — sabe o que significa isso?
— Não. É uma adivinha?
— Isso eu queria saber. Sou Samwell Tarly. Sam." - O Festim dos Corvos // Samwell V

Barring Maegor, who is Visenya's descendent? And what descendent did she kill twice once they died?
if i have to pick any one character as like visenya’s most truest little serial killer made in her own image i am not going to go for the low hanging fruit im going to say Obara Sand. Extremely grim. Serious to the point of being off-putting. Masc eldest sister. Prefers killing people with a spear to expressing any emotion because this is how she responds to the feudal misogynist paradigm that her father introduced her to at a young age. Loves revenge. Wants to nuke Oldtown from orbit. come on. welcome back Visenya Targaryen
#asoiaf#and if i said what if rhaenys if left to her own devices alleras moment what would you do#as for the other one she is beating aemond and daemon in hell for crashing her car into a lake and using her sword to do it

Half of this fic is just me looking for more excuses to put in all the cool women that the show wrote out
Still working on the next chapter for the GOT rewrite from hell, but I had to write a little about how the fuck menstruation works in Westeros (other than "oh you can get married now!" which I refuse to believe is the norm) and also to introduce the Sphinx:
The next morning, Shireen woke up to find blood on her shift and a sharp sort of twist in her stomach, as though she'd swallowed a molten pin. The blood came out easily enough, with frantic scrubbing in the basin, but the pain grew over the course of the morning.
"It's your flowering," said Maester Alleras briskly, when she went to him in a tightly-controlled panic. "How old are you?"
"Fourteen," said Shireen, realizing the date. Her nameday had passed two weeks ago.
"And what do you know of flowering?" he asked, smiling slightly at her blush. "Forgive me, but Northerners have queer ideas of teaching their children about these matters. I do not wish to presume your level of education."
"I know it can last for a week or more," Shireen said, thinking of Mother's cycles, how she would confine herself to her rooms to endure the pain in solitude and prayer. "It's very painful and disgusting, but it allows me to bear my future husband's children and therefore is a gift from the gods."
"Hmm. Well, that is what you were taught, at least," grunted the maester. He got up from his desk, rummaging through the cupboard behind him. He was a tall, skinny young man with the deep brown skin and tightly-coiled hair of a Summer Islander, and shared their fondness for brightly-colored nails: they seemed to dance along the shelves until he plucked out a jar and presented it to her with a flourish. "This will help with the pain, and stop the bleeding after this cycle. People of the North use it a great deal."
"Is it moon tea?" Shireen asked, taking it gingerly and wondering at Maester Alleras's use of the term Northerners, which sounded different from People of the North. Perhaps in the Summer Isles, everyone on Westeros was a Northerner. "Why do they use it so much here?"
"It is," he confirmed, "and as for why..." He shrugged. "I've only just arrived in Winterfell, you understand, and as you may have guessed—" this said with another smile— "I was born elsewhere. But from what I've gathered, they must be careful when they have children. The North can only feed so many."
Shireen thought of Fire & Blood, which Father had read to her as a child. The Winter Wolves had been a company of Northerners, who had answered Lord Cregan's call to fulfill the Pact of Ice and Fire with Rhaenyra Targaryen. They'd been greybeards who had knowingly marched to their deaths, for such was the custom of the North back then: at the start of each winter, the old men of each keep and castle and holdfast would choose amongst themselves who would go out into the snows. Some would return home in the spring, having endured the cold or escaped it to find their fortunes in southron lands; most would not.
"Put a thimbleful of this into whatever tea you like best," Maester Alleras continued, gesturing at the jar, his fingernails catching the light as it streamed into the rookery. "Once a day, and come back when you need more."
"Shouldn't I ask—" Shireen bit her lip.
But the maester caught her meaning; his eyes narrowed. "Shouldn't you ask your parents? Yes, I suppose you should. But they should be here to be asked, and they should have told you the truth."
"What's the truth?" Shireen asked, instead of admitting that Mother and Father had never told her anything about it. She couldn't imagine either of them even mentioning the subject. All her information had come from books, or from Mother's complaints.
"The truth is that if a cycle is painful and lasts for a week or more, that is the sign of an illness, not the will of a god. The truth is that you may well find it disgusting, but it is merely something our bodies do and should never be a source of disgust or shame to you or anyone else." He glared, though it did not seem directed at her. "And as for 'bearing your future husband's children,' the truth is that they are your children, just as much as his — indeed more so, unless he carries them about for the first nine months after their birth. But you will not be a woman grown for at least another two years, and any man who wishes you to bear children until at least that time is unworthy of your hand or your love." He sat back down, his half-dozen maester's links chiming musically. "Now run along, little princess."
Lady Sansa was just outside the door, with her brother beside her. "See, I told you she smelled funny," Rickon said triumphantly.
Shireen scowled at him. "Shut up." It was kind of him, she supposed, to have worked out that something was wrong and to wait for her outside the maester's chambers. But Rickon Stark was the sort of friend who was difficult to be grateful for.
"Yes, please do, Rickon," Lady Sansa said, pressing a businesslike kiss on the crown of Rickon's head before turning him round by the shoulders and pushing him down the corridor. Rickon protested, but went all the same, and Lady Sansa turned back to Shireen. "Moon tea?" she asked, nodding at the jar.
Shireen resisted the impulse to hide it somehow. It is merely something our bodies do and should never be a source of disgust or shame. "Yes, my lady," she said.
"Come along, then," said Lady Sansa. "I have some excellent tea from the Arbor. How does that sound?"
"Could I have a hot water-skin, too?" Shireen asked, as Lady Sansa looped her arm through hers.
"Of course. And the lemon trees in the greenhouse have given up their first fruits — we'll have lemon cakes for lunch instead of venison." She smiled and Shireen thought that even if Sansa Stark never took another husband or had children of her own, she was still all the mother that the North ever would need.
#Sarella/Alleras in the house!#seriously I love this character so much#I'm writing her here as a cis woman who's pretending to be a man because she wanted to be a maester#however all headcanons are obv valid and it's not like we're ever going to get an answer from Martin about this#also is this a chance to make a joke about how sansa is also 'mother'? MAYBE#anyway#got: bitches get stuff done#game of thrones motherfuckers#also I've seen the fanon around that Stannis read to Shireen as a child and that's why she thinks of it as a love language#which: just kill me#but also Fire & Blood is 100% the shit Stannis would read to a three-year-old
